Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
I mean, they have to get them out of a drawer and re-case them usually, anyway, so it is no big deal to check then.
Games maybe but movies no, of which I thought he bought as well? As far as movies go, I'm pretty sure all(or mostly all) stores keep them out in the regular cases. Too many hundreds or thousands to deal with otherwise.
It's as-is merchandise. If you are purchasing an item as-is (which is the situation with store closings) then you shouldn't be allowed to exchange/return when it turns out to be defective. That being said, when purchasing as-is merchandise (the case of a liquidation) and the item is being sold as used... you should be allowed to look at the discs. Hollywood Video stores almost always asked me to inspect the discs prior to purchase. Then again, while it's nice of them to offer to see the discs... it should almost be the customer's instinct to request to see the discs prior to buying USED... EX-RENTAL.... copies.
I purchased the items with money, not credit, to anyone asking before. And as I said several times, it's against the law to sell defective merchandise, at least in my state. The discs looked ok, some had scratches others didn't. So for the ones that weren't scratched, I can only assume that some layer was missing on the disc or something? When I played them, they were either unreadable, or made it to the title screen and froze every time. And I wasn't going to reply to whoever said I was "whining", but give me $130 and I'll give you some garbage. Oh sorry, all sales final dude. Wait, that's unfair and fraud you say? Just cuz they say all sales final it obviously doesn't apply everywhere and you have to put some work in to have it fixed. Anyone who doesn't that's their choice and that's fine. Anyways, they fixed it and it's cool now, but I won't be buying anything from them again

Has anyone been to the harvard street blockbuster in Brookline,ma? The have a store closing sign but their doesn't seem to be any game sales, they have mostly msrp and some don't even have a price tag, am I missing smth or should I just wait longer for some real sales?

I bet the discs that look good were refinished (polished discs), so they would have looked perfect but still damaged. Honestly, just go to a different BB, buy the same item and return the defective one. Or even better rent them on an all you can eat plan and mail back the defective discs. Dishonest yes, but you shouldn't be treated so poorly either. BBV is not yet out of business so they should still treat you as a returning customer.
And as I said several times, it's against the law to sell defective merchandise, at least in my state.
I am not going to pretend to know what state you live in, but I'm sure this statement is false. While some states, like Michigan, state that ALL merchandise sold by merchants come with an implied warranty of merchantability, that applies to all transactions EXCEPT when the sale is for as-is merchandise (which is the exact type of sale a liquidation is) and it is posted that there are no refunds/exchanges/no implied warranties/etc. Any other time, yes... you'd be entitled to return defective merchandise. Is it wrong for them to sell stuff that doesn't work? Yes, but with as-is merchandise... it's a risk for the sake of the discount. As-is merchandise provisions in the Uniform Commercial Code is a very big loophole exploited by just about every liquidator and used car dealership.

On the bright side, while legally they have no obligation to refund/replace, since the company is not entirely defunct you managed to find somebody sympathetic and not wanting to lose business/further the bad rep. for the BBVs that are still out there. Although there are some more subversive methods to returning the merchandise at least you didn't have to resort to those... Just a heads up regarding the all you can rent plan and returning defective merch.... to anybody doing that, be careful not to do a lot of that in a small period of time or the BBV will possibly be able to link it to your acct and ultimately charge you to start replacing.

As for somebody giving you 130$ for garbage. No, that's not fraud because you outright said it was garbage. It would only be fraud if you sold the person garbage under the pretense that it was something else...

Wow that was in interesting read about defective merchandise. Just buy it with your credit card or debit and dispute it with your financial institution. If the accept visa/MasterCard for the purchase than there are guidelines they have to follow regarding defects. If they try to pull the "as is" crap just tell em they are in for a dispute.

Refund, Return & Cancellation Policies:

Massachusetts law requires that a merchant clearly and conspicuously disclose the store's refund, return, or cancellation policy. A merchant cannot misrepresent the store's policy or fail to honor it. Generally, clear and conspicuous disclosure means that the merchant must display a written return policy that the buyer can see and understand before the purchase is made. As long as the product is not defective, a merchant can chooseany return policy, provided the merchant discloses this policy to the buyer before the purchase. Stating the policy on the receipt would not satisfy this disclosure requirement, because it is not provided until after the sale. (M.G.L. c. 93A, §2(c), 940 CMR 3.13(2)). Defective Merchandise:

A store, however, cannot use its disclosed policy to refuse the return of defective merchandise. When the item purchased is defective, you can choose a repair, replacement or refund. This right is contained in the Implied Warranty of Merchantability law. Under that law, merchants cannot limit your remedies. In addition, this means that if a merchant chooses an "All Sales Final" return policy, it must disclose that policy without limiting your rights. For example, the disclosure of the return policy must be similar to a posting which reads:
"All Sales Final, With the Exception of Defective Goods.
" (940 CMR 6.12)

^Their sign just said "All sales final", not "All sales final including defective goods." You could be right about the liquidation rules, I don't know as I saw this and it applied to my situation. I saw this as well, is this what you were talking about?:

Implied Warranty of Merchantability:

Under the implied warranty of merchantability, the merchandise must do what it was designed to do with reasonable safety, efficiency and ease, and for at least a reasonable period of time. For example, a toaster must toast, a TV set must have a picture and a clothes dryer should not overheat and catch fire when properly operated. Every item sold by a merchant in Massachusetts automatically comes with the implied warranty of merchantability. There is no warranty of merchantability if the seller is not a merchant, or if the seller is a merchant but does not ordinarily sell goods of that kind. For example, a computer purchased from a restaurant that does not usually sell computers will not have this implied warranty.
Under this law, a merchant cannot sell merchandise "as is", "with all faults", or with a "50/50" warranty. (M.G.L. c. 106, §2-314)
fuckin Shit, Is it too late to preorder Avatar for $20 ???? I haven't had a chance to do it yet. What price is it listed as now at BBV????
Yeah like a day after I told people at my work, and got a copy myself, it went back up.

Apparently we got an e-mail later stating we can't take pre-orders on anything except things they have listed out for us. I can imagine avatar might've had something to do with it :D. Funny how fucking worthless this makes someone trying to actually get presale numbers for their store, but not like I really care about that anymore anyway.

I would actually imagine that the seller is a merchant who "does not ordinarily sell goods of that kind." Liquidations are usually done by a 3rd party, who have no merchandise that they usually sell. I also would not be surprised if there was some other law in regards to liquidations, or some court case that would clear this up. Laws like this are never very straight forward, and usually there is some sort of out for the seller, because retailers have a much stronger lobbying presence than consumers. Plus, you have given us 2 paragraphs of what is probably 100s of pages of law regarding running a retail business.

Pretty much all state UCCs are generally the same/significantly similar. This is more to the point than 314: http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/106-2-316.htm

Im also not sure how BBV is handling their liquidations, but part of the reason most companies sell to the liquidation companies (mostly out of ease and being bancrupt), but also because liquidators don't typically deal in that type of merchandise... which is why their signs only have to exclude the other implied warranties. To me, it's still shady.

Ok I see what you were saying now. It's giving me a headache reading and cross referencing all the laws cuz they seem to contradict each other with the wording. This is why I'm not a lawyer :D. Guess I can't return the defective blood I got for cheap either

Hey guys I know franchise sales are usually YMMV but one of them close to me has a 50% off used games and movies. The guy at the register said its for all items marked 14.99 or less, however there is no signage which states so.
Picked up
:360:
Conan 5.99
Golden Axe Beast Rider 5.99
Prototype 12.99
Godfather 2 12.99
:wii:
De Blob 5.99
All prices were before 50% coupon, so after coupon it was $24 bux!
As stated though it was a franchise but it never hurts to look at your local stores.

did you/family see captain eo?
We did - it was awesome. Though it was a painful reminder of just how bad fashion and music was from my high school days. I thought it sucked at the time and still haven't changed my opinion ;).

Thanks for the POG sku Hawaiiboy. Went to a couple of the local stores and they confirmed they're all showing 60 on order. Now its just the waiting game.

if they are showing 60 on order it means they'll probably get 30. i dont know why but its been that way for a long time where the order status is doubled from the actual amount we get in. our store shows 120 on order but when i check the actual report of what we have coming in it shows 60.

Wow we got our x360 prepacks in today and we also got wii prepacks which are $6.99.
A couple of highlights my buddy just told me were modern warfare 2 and left 4 dead 2 and Mario kart. I'll have more titles after I swing by tonight.

I know its totally random and most stores don't even get any of these but I may have to call around tomorrow and see if any stores around here got these in.

x360 prepack part #. 275837
Thanks for the the #. I just called my local store and they don't have them and no stores nearby have them either (according to the person I talked to). Figures - just like the last 3-4 sets of POGs. They hate me.

just got back from seeing what we got in. for the wii we got several mario karts and mario sluggers everything else was pretty old crappy stuff. lots of the same stuff we've seen before.

for the x360 we got left 4 dead 2, modern warfare 1 and 2(more copies of 1), prototype, ufc 2009 undisputed, a bunch of resident evil 5, tiger woods 09, farcry 2, fable 2, mlb 2k9, gears 1 and 2. those of some of the better stuff off the top of my head. i'll be at work tomorrow if anyone wants a complete list. i'll get the wii prepack part # so others can look them up.

Just a heads up. It seems the current part # for the 360 games is the same one that was used for the Veterans day shipment as well, so if you're stores still have any left, you could be looking at those on the inventory locator rather than the latest shipment.

One of my stores had 13, but they were all the same ones that had been there for months. Surprisingly though, the Gamerushes have 0 on order >.

Bunch of price drops for games effective mon 3/29. X360 prepacks dropping to $6.99. Not much else good. Lots of big titles dropping ie assasins 2 $44.99
army of 2 $44.99.

Well now that I moved, it takes me even longer to make a run to the 5 stores I like to check, but I guess I'll have to do this again soon. Thanks for the info as always, hawaiiboy & others.

my block buster has tons of 10 dollar games like folklore for ps3 and dirt 2 for xbox 360 "that one had a clear case i dont know if it makes a difference" eat lead matt hazard for ps3 star wars and brutal legend for both ps3 and xbox they also had lego rockband ps3 game only for 10 bucks there were more but nothing that caught my eye i was considering buying dirt 2 and trading it to amazon for 19 bucks. Do i need to have the original box for it to do that?but they had a big box full of games all for 9.99 oh fear 2 was in there as well. they also had a box of blu rays for 6.99 each i only glanced at it i saw get smart in there, pretty funny movie

Would love to get some of theese game, but never have seen them for sale in dallas. Anyone from around dallas know which stores gets theses ?

You'll never guess what I saw when I walked into one of the closing blockbusters today:
(sorry for the blurry photos)

Yes, those are sealed GB, GBC & SNES games. What was even more suprising is that SNES Fifa was $1.99, however a bicycling game i'd never heard of was $59.98. The other SNES ones are Goof Troop, Beauty and the Beast, and another one I cant quite remember.

I'll probably go back later to pick some of the stuff up, it just took me by surprise how much old stuff they had.

Didn't see MW2 or L4D2. I saw a bunch of gears of war 2, ironman, nba 2k8, and the rest I can't remember. I got Halo Wars and World at War though. Anyone know where I can find cases for these? This was at the West New York, NJ bergenline.

Edit: Also Spiderman Web of Shadows, Resident Evil 5, the first L4D and Saints Row 2. These were all for 360.

I saw all of these as well, along with a few Wii games marked at 6.99. They had 3 copies of SSBB and 2 of LoZ: Twilight Princess. I'm not up on my trade-in values for Wii games though, so I passed. I checked their value and go back about 4 hours later and every one was gone. :(

Also saw NCAA Football 2010, MW2 and WaW.

Where are these pre-pack wii games? (mario kart, etc) In arizona, it seems blockbuster does not carry these, it only haas 360 POG's. Does anyone know this is nationwide or sale hasn't reached here yet?

Anyone have the Wii POG sku?

it's real similar to the x360 u can try 275836? i'll post it tomorrow if nobody posts it before then.

Didn't see MW2 or L4D2.

odds are they didnt make it to the sales floor if they had any at all. all the good stuff at my store is bought up by employees first and we have quite a few gamers at our store.

Does anyone know this is nationwide or sale hasn't reached here yet?

its hit or miss. some stores always get them some never get them. i dont know how its decided who gets them but thats why the inventory tracker is good so you can just go to one store and see if any of the stores in your area got any.

Between a friend and I, 10 BBVs were searched and not one L4D2 was found. Saw a lot of the others that had been listed, though.

I'm sorry if i'm asking a lot of questions, but I'm pretty new to this at blockbuster. Do you just give the Wii PGO sku to the employees to search for using the inventory tracker? Is it just one sku for all the Wii PGO games are each one is unique to each game?

Nothing at the Frisco stores off of Preston. Two of the stores I called were like "WTF are you talking about?" They didnt even know how to look stuff up, though.

just for clarification on the games we are talking about. they are called prepacks and they come in kind of a white clear plastic case with no artwork or instruction manuals. they are defective games that stores returned back to the distribution center and were resurfaced.(really well for the most part)

there is one sku(bbv calls them part #'s)for each system. look for the white label in the lower left hand corner and it will say something like july 09 prepack along with the part #. x360 is the most common since we all know how easy 360 games scratch thats why we tend to see x360 more often.

you can go into any store(or call) and ask them to status a part # and it will show if they have any in stock. these shipments come in sets of 30 so you'll know if ur store got any recently. you can then ask them to search inventory of other stores(PF4 key if they dont know how)and it will search the 10 closest stores and how many each location has.

X360 prepacks are now priced at $9.99 with a pricedrop to take effect monday 3/29 to $6.99

wii prepacks are already priced at $6.99.

Do you know if Resident Evil 5 for PS3 got a price cut?

No POG sightings at two stores that had them in last time...they still had the dregs from the last round that no-one bought like Madden 09.

Did see PS3 Valkryria Chronicles, used for $14.99
