Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

limit? they are drowning in debt and need every $ in the till ...
had a manager today concerned that I might want 3 copies of a ds game ... he held them for me but called around to other stores for policy on a limit ... not one store knew of any policy ... so he decided on 2 ... lol no biggie as one copy was incomplete ...

and just read the all the posts starting from this morning ... checked out the sd thread ... man, cags are posting info and confirmations over there (damn did one of our mods post the info?) but not one sd member is contributing ... list must be from posts here ... sad, sad .... if you plan on visiting stores ... do not wait ...
This did not work for me at Gamestop. The computer did not allow both promos to be combined automatically. Specifically, the promo that bumps up Mario Sluggers (or other eligible title) to $25 would not combine with the Gamedays sale promo that brings AC2 down to $29.99 (new). Instead, I just bought a new copy of Rogue Warrior (360) since it still gets $22 at BBV.

Hit up a couple local stores and got a decent haul. Thanks for the heads up everyone.
Ok, That explains why he did it manually for me. One EB I went to today didn't even think the 25 cred towards 29.99 even started today so I wasn't sure if it was automatic. Guess I just got a YMMV deal. :)
Thanks for the clarification, is Halo Wars still trading in for $12 at BBV?
Yes it does still get 12 , did it today.

I picked up Mario Super Sluggers, R&C future: tools of destruction, marvel ultimate alliance (1), and drawn to life wii for $20 this afternoon. I then traded Mario Super Sluggers to the gamestop down the strip to get a sealed little kings story for $5. I was very happy.
I didn't post nothin' nowhere - been out all day ;).
lol not you! and it may just be a fluke ... or is it?
:ds: Sim Animals - $6.99
This must have been an override or mistag (or typo) because I saw that at a few stores for $9.99 and bought one and it indeed rang up $9.99.

I just wanted to mention that I picked up TMNT and it was $6.99 (with Stuntman Ignition for free). Also got The Golden Compass and Jumper. Four games for under 15 dollars, woot.

Yes, I'm an achievement whore, and a shameless one at that. I'm considering abusing their return policy to make the most out of that 15-ish dollars. "The discs didn't work! Oh, and I see you're out of copies, so I'll just get something else."

No. Shame. At. All.
limit? they are drowning in debt and need every $ in the till ...
...
haha, yea true. still would be nice if with huge deals like this, everyone should get in.

but since they don't advertise it really at all, they're probably glad someone buys stuff.

The only BBV within 20 miles of me is being remodeled so naturally they have bupkis. Kid says to check back in a few days. I'm sure it wouldn't be worth the gas to get there...again...gah...:wall:

Well, the first store I went to had a ton of cheap games - but no sale. The on near me is closing apparently so used games were only 15% off.

Found one out of the way and finally burned a 50 dollar giftcard I had. The GC plus 10 bucks netted me:

Red Faction Guerilla - 15
Prince of Persia Limited Edition - Free

Medal Of Honor Airborne - 15
Legendary - Free

Matt Hazard - 10
Star Wars Game - Free

de Blob - 10
Drawn to Life - Free

Turning Point - 7
Fear Files - Free

Overall I was satisfied - though initially I wanted all 6.99 games to maximize but this wasn't bad for the price of one game.

Other games I saw:
DIRT 2 - 15
Mario Tennis - 15
Banjo Kazooie - 10

The first store had a ton of 6.99 games, but I guess it wasn't corporate.

I might have to return MOH since it is pretty scratched. Will likely find another store for that since I cleaned out the first.

I got 10 games for $50 all ps3
Overlord 2
Brutal Legend
Star Wars Republic heroes
Bionic Commando
Fear2
Endwar
Farcry2
Eatlead
NBA 07 ($2.50)
MLB the show 07 ($2.50)
how much does r&c tools of destruction go for? 9.99 or 14.99? I'd like to get that along with a couple other games if they have em in stock.
9.99

Also, do they have a computer that shows whatever is in stock? Like if call em up and ask them, they can just search and see if they have it? I am very sorry for the nooby questions, i just wanna know everything.

So are all stores doing this? Or are there some that do not participate? if the computer rings up everything I might go back to the first one that told me there was no sale.

Just called a BBV and the guy said they're not running it. But im not trusting him, cause he sounded like he didnt want to be there lol.

Where's that thread on SD located at? I'll give it a big ol' thumbs down over there(like I did any other deals seemingly cut/pasted from here).;)

sadly first page
Picked up a few myself, thanks OP! Unfortunately, someone beat me there and bought $500 worth of games according to the rep.
There really should be a limit. I remember the one HWV $4 or $5 a game sale. As I was walking in, two douchebags from an hour outside of my area were walking out with 20+ games EACH and bragging how they hit 'three or four stores on their way in from such and such area'.

Then again, I guess I shouldn't complain, since I used to go on road trips and hit up Best Buy, Kmart and Target stores while out of my own area, though I never found anything GOOD usually.

And donut, if we get enough people flagging it from CAG, it may drop off that first page quick(like I think the cut/pasted Kmart thread stuff did).

Just mostly repurchased stuff and bought stuff ultra cheap I already have sealed. Hard to overpay when you're paying a maximum of less than $8 a game.

:360::360::360::360:
Lost Odyssey $15
Overlord II $15
Soul Calibur IV $15
Wanted $15

:ps3::ps3::ps3::ps3:
Brutal Legend $10
Enchanted Arms $10
Overlord II $15 (x2 bought a second, 1st copy was missing the manual)
Ratchet & Clank FTOD $10

:wii::wii::wii::wii:
Animal Crossing City Folk $15
Drawn to Life The Next Chapter $10
New Play Control! Pikmin $10

:ds::ds::ds::ds:

Drawn to Life The Next Chapter $15
Final Fantasy CC Echoes of Time $10
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 $15

:psp::psp::psp::psp:
Soul Calibur Broken Destiny $15

This all cost around $100. Sadly, I trade in MAG, WKC, Kirby Superstar Ultra, Wanted, SFIV, and Resistance 2 into GS for almost the exact same amount. Taking Wanted out of the equation, I'm pretty sure I would have traded these 5 games for the 15 I got from Blockbuster. If only there was a fantasy world where GS and BBV credit was interchangeable

hmm... i ask the lady at my BBV to scan amrio and sonic at the winter olympics and it came out to 29.99...

here's what i came out with (from 3 different blockbusters) - Queens, NY

These are the ring up prices.
I specifically did them in multiple transactions so that the coupon would apply to my likings. The employees at all the BBV's I went to had no problem with that, and they were actually very nice.

The only thing I messed up on was the lego indiana jones... I bought two of them cuz I thought the flip valuie was great, but nope, it wasn't for the original one... :'(

Overall... I think that I bode pretty well.

OH, also, one of the stores didn't have a sign, but the employee knew about it, another store had the sign and the employee didn't know about it, and one store had no sign and the employee didn't know about it. She called up another store to ask for the "coupon code" and they said that the coupon comes up automatically in the system, nothing for the employee to do. So have no fear my CAGs.

My local Blockbuster has had B1G1 on games going for at least a month now. But as a result, there isn't much decent, and it doesn't seem like they ever restock (unless someone is just snagging all the new ones before I go in the last few weeks, but I doubt it). Also, rarely see any POGs.

Holy crap. I really hope that the Shrike4242 who posted the thread on SD is just someone else from CAG/wherever and not one of the mods from here.

Oh and I gave it a thumbs down for 'unable to replicate deal'.;)

EDIT: I really shouldn't be looking to buy anything from this sale, since my EA Store stuff is inbound via UPS. It's now at the processing center about two hours from me, meaning I should get it tomorrow sometime.

 Considering it was gonna cost $21 to ship the 9 games I got from that deal and I paid $26 shipped, it's like I'm getting them for $5.01 net.
']hmm... i ask the lady at my BBV to scan amrio and sonic at the winter olympics and it came out to 29.99...

here's what i came out with (from 3 different blockbusters) - Queens, NY

These are the ring up prices.
I specifically did them in multiple transactions so that the coupon would apply to my likings. The employees at all the BBV's I went to had no problem with that, and they were actually very nice.

Awesome! Thanks man. So i guess the BBV i called earlier was wrong cause the guy said they werent running. And this isnt one of those stores that are franchise or something, cause they've run b1g1 lots of times lol.

Dang. Wish I could fine Pure and GRID, but those were good deals without the B1G1 and were gone from my local stores. Found Fuel, but that's supposed to be horrible.

Alright nice. The other local blockbuster has bioshock for ps3 in stock. I've wanted it since i got a ps3 but cant justify paying 30 at places like GS. 10 bucks seems great.

I don't know about other areas, but if you don't own a 360 here, you are out of luck with the POGs. 95% of them were 360 games.

No crazy deals here on the other used stuff. In case it hasn't been mentioned, :ds: Kingdom Hearts 358/2 is a great filler if you only find one good game. Buy it as your freebie, then trade it in to GS for $15.40 (w/Edge). I found two mint copies, and after tax and other credits, I netted one free copy plus $.23 in GS credit. :D

OK After visiting 11 stores (I know, sad/determined w/e you want to call it) here's my haul (original prices listed, not accounting for B1G1):

Wii:
Dead Space Extraction -$15
Animal Crossing - $15
RE: Umbrella Chronicles - $15
Mario Strikers Charged - $15
Onechanbara - $10
Spectrobes Origins - $10
Mushroom Men - $10
Mario/Sonic Summer Games - $10

PS3:
Folklore - $10

DS:
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days - $15
Big Brain Academy - $7

PS2:
Soul Caliber 3 - $5
Jak 3 - $5

Xbox 360: These are POG
GTA IV - $7
CoD: World @ War - $7

Even better, one of the Mario/Sonic Olympic Summer Games I bought, the clerk apparently placed a winter Olympic game inside on accident! Talk about lucky.

There was another game with a RED ACT sticker, but i took out and do not remember what game it was... What does it mean???

All game are in excellent shape except Pure and Grid which came from one particular blockbuster that I'll stay away from from now on.

The POG games seems to always be in excellent condition. So do not fear to buy those.

hopefully my contribution to this thread helps in some way.

Thank you CAG.com, CAG's around the states and my mom for raising me to be a cheap ass.

2x @$9.99:
Ghostbusters (360), Fear 2: Project Origin (360), Okami (Wii), Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers (Wii)

2x @$6.99 (Complete): Condemed 2: Bloodshot (PS3), 2x Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (360), Earth Defense Force 2017 (360)

2x @$4.99: Enchanted Arms (360), Viva Pinata Party Animals (360)

26 games for $110.87. I'm so completely ok with that and I left a TON of stuff behind. I didn't even touch one of the six copies of Brutal Legend, Spider-Man Web of Shadows, Transformers: RotF, Mario and Sonic Olympics (DS), etc. etc. Just left them behind for others and it's been sitting around all day long. And I was stunned to find a complete minty copy w/manual of Earth Defense Force 2017. That's just a fantastic find for $3.50 (and it's a super fun game).

This is the best legit deal I've seen in quite some time.

Got Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games Wii and Mario Super Sluggers Wii for a grand total of $9.99! Awesome deal since I can get 25 in trade for each at gamestop!

word... i think you fared better than be. I thought I did well, but I want GOW 2 and bully for 6.99/2 each.

I just youtubed earth defence and now i want that... I don't exactly know what games to get like that.

Had to go back and reread any missed posts to see what everyone else was able to snag at their local BBV. Seems some good scores out there for some of ya. Hit four BBVs after work today. Picked up the following titles:

Wii

Bleach: Shattered Blade (missing booklet) $9.99
Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games (missing booklet) $9.99
Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games (Complete) $9.99
Okami (missing booklet/has IGN watermark cover still) $9.99
SoulCalibur Legends (Complete) $9.99

DS
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time (complete) $9.99

PSP
Dissidia Final Fantasy (complete) $14.99

PS3
Afro Samurai (complete) $9.99
Army of Two (missing booklet) $14.99
Pure (complete) $9.99

Overall not a bad haul totaling $59.55 which I think is money well spent. Good thing I didn't jump on that B2G1 Walmart deal. Time to test out the games now to see what works.

Thanks. And it was only one store. I feel a little bad reading how many other folks had to visit multiple stores to find decent stuff. Apparently, no one around here visits BBV for games. I first stopped in @noon today and expected to see stuff stuff gone that was there this past weekend. Nope. Then I had to exchange one POG (cracked disc) so I went back at 8:00 tonight and the games were still virtually untouched.
Probably not the most ethical but i just pulled the manuals i needed from the rental games
That will haunt you for the rest of your life. You will live every day wishing you didnt do that. It will morally drive you crazy. In a year's time, you'll be in a straight jacket in one of those white rooms they show on tv.

JK lol.

tried not to go too crazy but I went to one store tonight and got a few things.

Splinter Cell: DA 360 - $10
Jak and Daxter PSP (the newest one) $10 (surprised by the price on that one, been wanting to give it a shot)

Saint's Row 2 -360 (POG) $6
Sega Rally Revo 360 - $5.

Was thinking of getting Boom Blox Bash party and FF Dissidia but decided not too. Kinda broke after PAX East and the 25% thing at gamestop.com.

Oh, you did really well though. And although I was very happy with my finds, I was hoping to find a major gem like Left 4 Dead 2 (POG) or one of the Mario Wii $25 GS trade-in value games. Oh well. I was really happy with the clear POG cases too. I get a lot of used Blu-Ray movies from BBV, but then never really looked all that good in the rack with those black cases. So I swapped them into the clear POG cases, and they look much better.

Strange, I know...

I'll tell ya' though, with this deal and the EA Store deal, and finally getting my Red Faction: Guerrilla freebies from the Darksiders "Mystery" code, I have a lot of gaming to do.

Scored Red Faction: Guerilla :360: and HAWX :360: in Newport Beach, CA. Then picked up Mirror's Edge :360: and Mario and Sonic Olympics :wii: in Costa Mesa.

Promptly drove over to the GS at South Coast Plaza to trade Mario and Sonic, but the clerk said he couldn't take them because of how scratched up they were. Grr. Drove over to the one on Harbor and they took it with no issues, traded for Borderlands. I'll probably be returning it later on =)

I was so happy to finally hear about another of these sales today. Decent haul:
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen xbox360 $14.99
G-Force NDS $14.99
Banjo- Kaoozie Nuts and Bolts xbox360 9.99
Spiderman Web of Shadows xbox360 9.99
Darksector xbox360 $6.99
Dirt xbox360 $4.99

There are a few more i might go back for tomorrow ;)

why x3 Gears 2, x2 Mercs 2?

Can't even flip those for much, a loss without bonus. and can't see why you'd keep more than one copy? (unless gifts, if so nvm lol)
