Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I'd love to get my hands on some cheap PSP games, will be looking into this.

Wait, wtf. I bought F.E.A.R. 2 from Blockbuster a couple of days ago for $6.99 and no one told me anything about how I could get another free; I saw something about a B1G1 off, but it was only one bin filled with a bunch of shitty DS and PS2 games.

I want to go back and complain, but I don't know if it will do any good; the Blockbuster I got it has always been terrible at customer service; fuck.

This is why you keep an eye on the Blockbuster thread. Then again, that didn't help me one bit and I have this thread in my subscriptions list.

Of course, it doesn't help that a fellow local CAG hit them up first thing when the sale started for any of the $6.99 POG's that were flippable to GS and elsewhere. Ah well. Hopefully they 'restock' this week and I can grab some shit that's worthwhile.:D

You could always try reading the flyer.....

From what I understand, they are not going to have DS or PSP games anymore.

psp games were supposed to have been transferred last week and the time for them to have to get it done has expired so if they didnt transfer them yet they will have to wait til they get another report to do so.

ps2 games are being slowly phased out but nds isnt going anywhere.

I don't keep up with this thread because the Blockbusters near me are garbage; I go in one once or twice every ~6 months.
You could always try reading the flyer.....
If you're talking about the "flyer" on the bin, all it said was Buy One Get One Free; nothing about all games under $14.99, and it was the only bin like it in the store

...but thanks for the advice, cock.
Fine print on the flyer had all the info you needed had you only been more observent.
Clearly the reading comprehension skills on this board are lacking; I will repeat; there was nothing on there besides "Buy One Get One Free." This was not some legit flyer or an actual printout; it was something an employee clearly made in less than 30 seconds, and again, did not say anything besides "Buy One Get One Free."

Ok I just thought about something right now. The First BBV I went to was closing, I asked her if they were selling their rental video games and she said not until Monday. So my question is, would all of these games that they convert for the sale be eligible for the B1G1 14.99$ deal? If so I think I might have to take another drive out there immediately!

I was wondering the same thing myself. Not only would you get the good games, they would be a percentage off. It is kind of hard to believe they would do a double dip though.

Edit: I just called a BBV that started closing before the B1G1 sale and they said they were not participating in the B1G1 sale.

Not trying to sound like an ass, but I want to preorder the Transformer game, but I wonder if BB will be around by the time it comes out...Couple more stores around me are in the process of closing...

But reading for some CAG's is like waiting at the post office to mail a package nowadays or waiting longer than half a millisecond by the game case in Sears/Kmart for help or like.....

Well...you get the point. People want their info spoon fed to them, they don't wanna have to wait longer than a second to have all their questions answered and shit out so they can buy it.

In other words, people are lazy.

Simple as that.
heads up on those flipping and grabbing multiples mario and sonics to take advantage of the gamestop promo. Word is they are not accepting any more of those!
I was able to trade a disc only copy today with no problems. I got a NEW Endless Ocean Blue World bundle with Wii speak mic for 29.99-25.00 promo tiv. Nice part about that trade is: 1. the wii speak mic retails for 29.99-19.99 alone, and 2. they gut the box but the game itself is in the drawer still in the wrapper.

Not much in my area (waited due to financial issues), but I did pick up the following:

360:

Last Remnant
Matt Hazard
Red Faction

Wii:

Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing was kind of a fill in though admittingly, but hell, I never tried these games yet so I figure it's something different for me.

I saw some games with a sticker of $14.99 for 360 Beatles Rock Band and Halo Wars. But it scanned $19.99 - so maybe it will go down tomorrow.

Thanks for the tips! I got the following at several BBVs in the area (all complete unless otherwise noted):

:ps3:
Lair: $9.99
Elder Scrolls-Oblivion: $14.99
Mirror's Edge (no case/instruction manual): $9.99

:360:
Condemned 2: $6.99

:ps2:
Shadow of the Colossus (non-GH; complete): $6.99

:ds:
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon: $9.99

I wanted to get my son power rangers super legends from this sale but I just couldn't get myself to buy it. There was food and boogers on it. Plus the disk look like it was dragged hard over a mile of rocks.

To some kids, boogers ARE food. But yeah, I think it was kind of a given that a Power Rangers game would have a younger audience that wouldn't take care of a rental game.

BIG SCORE...went to my blockbuster and found and IPHONE 3GS 32GB right by the door outside. Took it to pawn shop and sold it for $475!!!! Profit=$475...

just kidding...I gave it to store clerk for when the poor person came back looking for it..no restock gaming-wise..sigh

Will choose not to believe you on that one, son, but anything's possible. But wouldn't you ask the context of the deal to a clerk?

I've been to about 8 blockbusters for this deal and they all had the same flyer....in little print it said UNDER 14.99. I will also ignore the insult, since I'm the one sitting home with a bunch of great games that I got B1G1 and you got your one.:booty:

i got overlord 2 and red faction, but man i got to test these games, looks like someone just went to town on the discs. hope they work cuz thats all my BB had thats worth anything

How the fuck does someone with an iPhone just 'lose' it? Unless they got it for signing up for a phone plan, don't those things cost a good buck?
I'd love to get my hands on some cheap PSP games, will be looking into this.
Word of advice: if you see a PSP game rental, ask them to scan it. Twice I've done this, and both times they had a used copy for sale that wasn't on the floor. I haven't read every post, so I don't know if all PSP games are supposed to be sold or if this was another case of games not being put out due to space or time issues (which has been common this weekend).

Ouch. Any dipshit that loses something that expensive obviously doesn't worry about money or their possessions. Either that or they're one of those self important shmucks who will put themselves $100k+ deep into credit card debt just to give the illusion that they 'have it all'.

I know what I woulda done with the phone, but then again I'm not one to return found money either.

I've been to about 8 blockbusters for this deal and they all had the same flyer....in little print it said UNDER 14.99. I will also ignore the insult, since I'm the one sitting home with a bunch of great games that I got B1G1 and you got your one.
The first BBV I went to was my franchise store and it said 50% all games. I saw Bioshock 2 for $30 and I said to the nice clerk girl across the way, I bet this won't ring up $15 and she said it sure would, and it did. I also got Halo 3 ODST for $10. There was no B1G1 at this store. All paid for with FairyTale Fights credit.
What? Lol they retail for 99 for 3g 199 3gs 16gb and 299 3gs 32gb.
It can cost up to $800 if it is an unlocked 32GB 3GS.

He was probably talking about how much it would cost to replace it. Those prices look like they are with a contract. If you have a contract and lose the phone, I'm guessing you are SOL.

I'll take 50% rather than b1g1 any day of the week.
I've had terrible luck in terms of cover art/manuals, but I can't really complain. I spent ~$87. Over the past week, between two stores, I got:

Avatar Airbender easy 1000GS one
Lost Odyssey
Lego Indiana Jones
Damnation
Dark Sector
SFIV
Afro Samurai
Transformers ROTF
Overlord 2

PS3
Oblivion
Spiderman: Web of Shadows
Fuel
Terminator: Salvation
Red Faction Guerilla

I think your math is messed up. How did you arrive at those prices?

edit: Oh, I got it. You're trading 6 on 2 separate accounts. Do you think you'll be able to find 12 copies to fulfill each order?

There's a lot of rockband beatles at BBVs. At least 2-3 at each store I've seen. If he has enough around him..

:roll: How'd I know I'd get the 'karma' thing from someone? So let me get this straight, if you find $100 lying on the road with no one around, you're going to take it into the nearest business or start yelling out 'who lost $100'?

Yeah. Like you won't have 1000 leeches going 'its mine' in half a second.

I've found money and I've lost money in my lifetime. I've also found various shit and lost various shit. You can say karma, but I say it's from being a dumb shit once in a while.

Most definately I've seen a crapload of them. I could probably get that many just by going to two stores.

Why are you comparing a $100 bill to an iPhone? You honestly don't see a difference between the two scenarios? You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to find the phone's owner.

I'm just joking around. If I found an Iphone right outside a BBV I'd probably give it back, especially with my luck - I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of those stupid hidden camera shows making me look like some asshole. If I found $100 in the parking lot I'd probably keep it unless I saw a person searching for it. Otherwise, like you said it would probably end up in the wrong hands.
