Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Huh. I decided to go back in later this afternoon, and what do you know? Beatles Rock Band, Halo Wars, and Damnation were all on the table. I mean, I *could* have missed them the first time, as I was in a bit of a hurry to get to class on time, but it seems a bit odd I missed all three this morning. I picked up two Beatles Rock Bands to flip to GS, and left one to possibly pick up later along with everything else.
Can anyone confirm if the Beatles Rockband for PS3 is also $14.99? I found one tagged this weekend at $19.99 and the employee scanned it and said it actually was $19.99.
I live in washington state today and had the same thing happen to me....scanned at 19.99 for all three versions.
The price drop to $14.99 occurred today.
hawaiiboy already said it was only for the :360: version after all--the Wii & PS3 versions remained unchanged at $19.99.

where are people planning on trading their :360: beatles rock band? I found one today and was wondering if its worth the flip to GS or amazon?

nm, i just realized its $20 at bestbuy.com trade-in. 12.50 to amazon. 13.50 at gamestop (with 40%/6 + edge)

It was worth the flip to Amazon...if you locked in the price yesterday

what was the price yesterday? if its more than $20 than I wish I had known. Guess I have to settle for bestbuy credit.

So I went back to the BBV that is closing to see if they were still doing the B1G1. They were not, man was I sad! It would have been a gold mine! Instead games were 10% off, which is pretty pathetic for now.

On a side note, I keep hearing this talk about POGs, I am a bit confused. POG stands for Previously Owned Game or am I mistaken? What is the difference between these and the ones that are a part of the B1G1? I tryed going back a few pages but couldn't figure it out, so sorry for the nub question :p

People inadvertantly interchanged pog with "prepack" which is the actual term for the 6.99 games in the clear cases with no manuals/cover art.

Picked up Kabookii and Lock's Quest for $6.99 (the former was only $4.99). I know there must be a bizarro BBV that takes Kabookii for $16 :)

Edit: Also saw Earth Defense 1967 or whatever but it had a gigantic ring. What a tease.

wait B1G1 is no longer active? you might want to ask an employee I was even informed at one that it was going on but no signs were up!

Blockbuster locations that are closing are not doing the B1G1 Free deal as far as I know.

It was $19.25, I locked in two on a whim hoping to find a couple today (which I did).

Really? Most games I found didn't look like they were ever played:)

Went to BBGR in DBar SoCal today and snagged:

Halo Wars
Red Faction Guerrilla

TR Underworld
Brutal Legend

Was really hoping for a Banjo N&B but that's a good score for $28 out the door.

Note: There are at least 3x Beatles Rock Band X360 at that store. Not in the $15 and under area but one display down.

Just a heads up, if the TIV changes within the month that your order is processing you only get the lower TIV. Then, if you want them to send the game back, u gotta pay for return shipping.

I managed to score Rune Factory for the DS for 6.99 along with a Pre-Packed Dynasty Warriors 6. I've been searching high and low for decent pre-packs but so far the best one I found was a Left 4 Dead that had a crack in the center ring. Oh well...
Note: There are at least 3x Beatles Rock Band X360 at that store. Not in the $15 and under area but one display down.
All beatles 360 are 14.99 at any corporate locations starting today, no questions. IF they still got em you can go back and buy them using the b1g1.

Returned to my Blockbuster tonight and found it was going out of business :( The whole block the store is on is like the boulevard of broken dreams. It has these stores closed down: Pizza Hut, Sonic, Albertson's, Hollywood Video, and now Blockbuster.
Beatles rock band fetches $20 on gazelle. I really want to keep the one I picked up today, but damn what a flip.
Is gazelle trade in value locked in any way, like Amazon's? Or does the price change between the time you put in the trade and when they receive the games?

Yes... my post was a heads up for people in the area. Several haven't been marked down yet and should be easy pickings.

I've been looking on the website for something to indicate this precisely. Only thing I saw was, "The estimated value is not final until the item has been verified." Which really could mean that they wanna make sure you're really sending them a complete copy of the game.

Can you elaborate further on this?
Is gazelle trade in value locked in any way, like Amazon's? Or does the price change between the time you put in the trade and when they receive the games?
I can't imagine they'd change the value once they receive it. They call it an offer because that what it is, otherwise their business model would be totally unreliable.

I picked up Final Fantasy Dissidia:psp:-$14.99 and God Of War Chains Of Olympus:psp:-$9.99 for my one buddies' brother in law's kid.

Otherwise, the further stores I tried had jack and shit left, just like the local ones.

At the first one the employee swore up and down that the Beatles: Rock Band was NOT $14.99 for :360: and even supposedly price checked it, yet at the second store I hit yesterday it was $14.99 and in the dump bin.

Got a few including Godfather 2, The Club and Bionic Commando for 5 each, Beautiful katamari complete and Tomb raider Underworld for 3.50 each. SSX Blur was 3.50 and Mario Strikers Charged was 7.50. Want Beatles RB, but I'll wait until I can get it for 5. Uggh. Just started trying out games and the main menu for Tomb Raider Underworld says Tomb Raider Anniversary. Guess I gotta find that receipt.

Oh my god. I wish someone had mentioned Gazelle earlier. $13 for Bakugan Wii? $7 for Pokemon MDEoD? $20 FOR BEATLES ROCK BAND? I'm going to have to make a drive tomorrow. I hope BRB holds until then.

Went back on another trip got Final Fantasy Dissidia 14.99 and WWE Legends of WreslteMania (360). both were complete with manuals. I got one more BBV that I need to check out tomorrow.

Had some game requests from my relatives, so I made yet another run. Hitting the same stores I'd already combed over a few times.

A handful of stores were doing some serious restocking/repricing. Not all. But some. One store in particular had some real treasures last time, and they had a whole new batch of good stuff. Some of it wasn't ready to go on the floor, but the guys offered me the inventory lists so I could pick what I wanted. I was able to snag some more prime flips like Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny and Kingdom Hearts 358/2.

I picked up quite a bit at multiple locations today.

:360: Watchmen $9.99
:360: Incredible Hulk $6.99 (Free)
:360: Overlord II $14.99
:360: Red Faction Guerrilla $14.99 (Free)
:360: Halo Wars $14.99
:360: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen $14.99 (Free)
:360: Rock Band Beatles $14.99
:360: Rock Band Beatles $14.99 (Free)

Total spent ~$60

Then subtract the $40 for the RB:Beatles that I already have ready and will ship either tomorrow or Wednesday and it comes to roughly $20 I spent on six sub par titles that I have been meaning to get to anyways!

Not a bad haul, especially when I look at it that way.

anyone know if the sale will last til friday cuz there is 2 more games i would like to try to get. edf 2017 and watchmen tein
man i swear i hate bb's pog's. i had to return overlord 2 cuz it was scratched to hell picked up halo wars as a replacement now by the looks of that disc i fear i may have to exchange that if it doesnt work
:(
anytime I've encountered pogs, they've been pretty flawless. Typically they are all refurbished, so your BBVs might just be tossing used rentals into the pog casing and selling it as is. Regardless you can always check the game before buying them since they are right there in the case.

Confirming Beatles Rock Band :360: at $14.99 while the :Wii: and :ps3: versions both still scan and are stickered at $19.99.

I also got :360: Damnation, :wii: TMNT Smash-Up and :wii: Dead Space: Extraction for $14.99 apiece.

Today was a good day!

Damn good question. This weekend when I asked, two stores both said they thought the sale ended either Sunday night or Monday night. Today, one of those same stores said they thought at least one more week, possibly till the end of the month.

If anyone knows for sure, I'd love to hear it!

Yeah, I had one manager chat w/me about the POGs today. I always ask to look at them, and he said, "I don't know where these are coming from, but every one is utterly flawless." And he was right. Pristine condition. I asked if they were rentals, and he said he didn't think so. He said the huge batch he got for this particular sale were all factory-fresh looking. ???

Hopefully (fingers crossed) it looks like Soul Caliber might somehow hang on at $14 for another day. I just traded a batch of stuff in right after midnight to go towards my Splinter Cell preorder, and Soul Caliber still had the $14 base, as well as KH. All of the other common stuff was at the same value.

So, I don't know if this specifically means that they would have had the updated TIV's in their systems already or maybe it was still running off of Monday's values, but I did trade those in after midnight, so...

good luck!

I forgot to check when I was out at my stores today, but does anyone know is Rainbow Six Vegas 2 has dropped to $14.99 yet? They have it at multiple stores and I have waiting for a reason to finally own my copy myself rather than borrow it from my buddy.

They are refurbs and I'd say this batch is not nearly as good as ones in the past. I definitely see covered up flaws on the ones I got. In particular, there were rings gouged into some and their refurb machine didn't completely remove them. One I got had a 2 inch crack from the center of the disc into the data portion. So just be careful - they are not factory-fresh. The whole reason they come this way is that they are probably sent back to corporate as defective rentals and then refurbed and sent out as prepacks.

No luck on Halo Wars for me. I saw it at two stores but in both cases it was the LE version and tagged $39.99. I suppose I could have checked but the BBV tags said "Limited Edition" so I'm sure it is a different SKU than the regular. But, WTF is up with 2 BBVs having Halo Wars LEs? Both looked complete and in excellent condition too (outer slip cover and everything). I wonder if these were converted from new games - seems odd 2 stores near me would get them traded in that way when they get so very few trades of any other games.

I've now been told at 3 or 4 stores that I am their best customer. I feel that way with the amount of cash I've been spending .

I'm about 75% sure I saw a RB6V2 for xbox 360 tagged 14.99 a couple days ago at BBV. I'm just not 100% sure because I sort of overlooked it because I already own it.

I went in to the local BBV today and they had no signs posted about the B1G1 sale. I even asked an employee and he said he wasn't aware of any sale. He went and asked a manager and he was surprised when they said yes it was on. Anyhow I picked up

iconxbox360.gif
Eternal Sonata $9.99
iconwii.gif
Trauma Center Second Opinion $9.99 (free)
iconwii.gif
Pikmin $9.99 (free)

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 $14.99

All complete and in original cases

Found a Dirt 2, but not only was it tagged at 29.99, it rang up at 29.99 as well. Interesting to say the least since some here have reported getting it at 14.99.

Dirt 2 is only $14.99 for Wii. The 360 and PS3 versions are $29.99 and the only people who found those for $14.99 got them that cheap because they were mistagged.

Perhaps some are refurbs and some are unknowns? I've been scrutinizing most of the POGs I've bought (at least 18 so far) because they are all being shipped away as gifts. So I didn't want to deal with bad discs. They all looked perfect. The boxed games, on the other hand, varied from decent to "WTF?!".

I'm almost certain its down to $9.99 for the PS3. I didn't pick up a copy, but I definitely recall trying to decide between that and Godfather II for a trade (I didn't have access to a TIV list at the time). And Godfather II cost me $9.99. At most it's $14.99. I've seen it at several stores near me.

Ah, maybe thats why. Thanks for the clarification io.
Got around to trying one of my PS3 games and it doesn't play. What's the return policy?!
They will either replace the game if they have another or let you pick an equivalent title. However, the exact specifics are YMMV. I returned a defective $6.99 game today and just got a credit back for that amount which I used to buy Beatles Rock Band. But all the clerks who tell me about the pre-played guarantee policy say you have 30 days to return it for a replacement. Given that they wouldn't have replacements for most of the stuff we've bought I'm not sure what the next step would be. It doesn't sound like they would ever refund in cash though - at best you would get a store credit to use on anything else.
