Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

BTW, is anyone else bemused by the picked up 16 games, picked up 10 games so far stuff?? I recall in the days of credit farming a couple of years back doing 50 or 60 games a week easily between GS and BBV. Ahhh... the good old days :)
I have farmed for far more, I made note of how many I have gotten because I actually got them all to keep! Very rarely will I buy that many from a sale like this strictly for my own collection.

i'm sorry if i missed this somewhere in the thread, but can you trade in multiples (2 copies) of rock band 2 (ps3) to amazon? (i know you can't for gamestop)

thanks.

since i asked a stupid question here are some protips from my experience over the last week. there seems to have been a bump in some gamestop trade in values: i got $10 for mirror's edge ps3, $21.75 for red alert 3 (ps3), and $12 for need for speed undercover (ps3). note that this includes 50% extra (6 games 40% + edge 10%.

Beatles Rock Band, as of right now (it may not tomorrow) trades in for $20 at Gazelle. I don't know about BL- its TIV seems to have tanked everywhere I know of. I'd gift it or sell it for $10 on Craigslist/LSN if you really don't want it.

I definitely remember. I was looking through the memory cards of one of my old cameras recently and found pictures of stacks of 70+ games. Then I thought to myself, "oh yeah, I remember that day. I couldn't get to any gamestops before 9pm to trade in my BBV B1G1 flips. I must have taken them home and taken pics of them. That was one of my slow days too! OMG, that was crazy."

Good times indeed.

I think we all were already reminiscing about this stuff during the last B1G1 about 8 months ago. It was nuts how much stuff we traded back in the day. It just sucks right now that we can't find more GS-->BBV flips. Lots of my BBV's still have some decent games. Hell, today I bought Eternal Sonata for the 360 and Ratchet and Clank Tools of destruction for ps3 for $10 and they were mint with original covers. I could easily get my hands on half a dozen transformers 2 for the ps3 and a half dozen dissidia final fantasys for psp for example, but I'm not shelling out the cash for flips that won't even double my investment. I'll shell out cash for games to play myself and games with good flip ratios.

So far during this current sale, I bought 33 games to keep for myself and I bought approximately 30-40 to trade (that's nothing compared to previous B1G1's, but I guess it's still alright). Luckily I had a lot of BBV credit to start with and I've already traded in 3 of those retarded Rogue Warrior games. As of april 13th, the TIV is still $22. I still have one Rogue Warrior sitting here begging to be traded. I fucking hate having to make up a story to the GS employees over and over about why I'm buying a game with a 1.5 rating on IGN. If I would have known that the Beatles Rockband was going to drop to $14.99, I would have bought a bunch of rogue warriors off GS.com a while ago. This way I could have avoided 3 of 10 minute conversations with GS employees about why I shouldn't buy Rogue Warrior.:booty:

That's what I hate about GameStop. If they were truly doing their job right (which about 90% of them don't), they wouldn't turn their nose up at you and tell you what you should be playing in their opinion. They should just take in the game without judgment, because if you actually did like that game, you would be a bit offended, right?

Like how, "Oh, why are you pre-ordering Record of Agarest War which is going to be rare, when you can preorder Halo Reach THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME that you can buy anywhere!!" fucking GameStop.

Anyway, I'm trying to track down a BBV that may have Soul Calibur PSP. No luck today but I did score Spider-man Web of Shadows & Tomb Raider Underworld for $10.

Beatles Rock Band 360 shot up to $19.25 on Amazon's trade in page, so update any pending trades while you still can.

Thanks! Got it figured out now.

I scored two copies of Beatles Rock Band, SF IV and Ghostbusters. Very pleased.

I am so damn happy that I finally got Beatles RB. I have been trying to trade for it for months, and all the game snobs on gametz kept refusing my offers. Good luck getting anything for it now that the market is saturated with the game! Ha! You held on to it for too long you punk bee-hotches and now it's as valuable as GH III!

I completely agree with you. If I worked at GS, I would try my hardest to not become Randal from Clerks (even though I inevitably would).

All three times I went to buy Rogue Warrior the GS employees acted like I was out of my fucking mind. I definitely see where they are coming from because Rogue Warrior is supposedly so bad that it shouldn't even be considered a form of interactive entertainment. At one store they literally yelled "Don't buy that game!" so I walked out and didn't buy it, lol.
Hell no, I'm still trying to get "Douche of the Year".
Nah... that's still Ryan Seacrest's title, you'll either have to become his "partner" or devour his soul to attain his "Douche of the Year" status.

I dont get why you are bashing gamestop employees when they are saving you money from buying terrible games. I really hope you were not paying $50 for that at GS when it released.

Also, not all people know what a game is all about if it is good or what. So when they are buying a POS, I would tell them it is a POS.

I got one a couple of weeks ago that was fucking hilarious. I was doing my trades while another guy was helping an older man.

"No no no you don't want a Wii, Nintendo is making the Wii 2 already. And PS3? No, Sony already announced the Playstation 4. You don't want a DSi either, there's a new one coming out, the DSI XL. (which is funny b/c the 3DS had already been announced and he didn't mention that). If you want the most up to date system get an X-Box 360"

haha what fucking fanboy-ass employee. I went to Target to buy a PS3 slim around Dec. 2009 and there was a worker who literally was begging me not to support sony because they are the reason for all the high priced game . SERIOUSLY WTF !! I actually overall enjoy my PS3 more than 360 but damn not to the point were I would say dont buy there products.

I have been buying a lot of used
iconxbox360.gif
Rogue Warrior (if not all of them in my area-only complete ones). And slimin1122 missing the point. If I ask the employee what they think of a game...their comments are cool. If the employee says that game sucks and I tell them I still want it, that should be the end of conversation and they should ring me up. But what happens is that they think I'm crazy and try to talk me out of the purchase. I just lie and say I lost my friend's and I need it as a replacement.

I got a lot of BS when I bought 2 of them at the mall. The employee was totally going off about it and I kept saying "really, ok I want them" over.

I bought too many so it's a little embarassing to mention how many, but after the third or fourth time, I just kept saying " I still want it".

This post would probably be for Hawaii guy or whom ever else works at Blockbusters but did anything new get converted to used sales or is that something each store decides to do on it's own?

Thanks

there were some rental conversions this week. Hopefully all stores have done them and put them out by now as it wasn't very big(20-25 games). It varies by store but not much and the stuff that did get converted this week were the newer games that wouldn't qualify for the sale.

Ok, I'll bite....why'd you buy multiple copies of Rogue Warrior? I can't possibly see you giving it out as a gift, unless you're an asshole (and I'm assuming you're not)

If someone is harping on you for so long, just do what I do. Tell them to fuck off because it's none of their fucking business. I can put up with some feedback from a sales clerk, especially when that clerk is trying to be helpful. But when it gets to be too much, then I have to put them in their place. I'm the customer and it's really none of their business what I'm buying or why I'm buying it.

I must've missed that one. I think this situation is more of an odd fetish or something. Like to see how many copies he can get maybe?

It sounds like he is just trying to convert GS credit back into BBV credit by paying $22.50 for Rogue Warrior and then trading it in at BBV for $22.

Gamestop employees are the worst about this. They think they know everything and that they are the keeper of the good games. I have actually had some fun with some of the worst games out there. If i want your opinion ill ask for it. Shut up, take my money and leave me alone. :cold::cold::cold::cold::cold::cold::cold::cold::cold::cold::cold::cold::cold::cold::bouncy:

But wait, Rogue Warrior 24.99 at BBV (not part of the B1G1) and there can't be anywhere in America you could get more than 25 bucks trade in for that piece 'o' junk.

Picked up:

Beatles Rock Band (360) - $14.99
Rock Band 2 (PS3) - Free (marked $14.99)

Traded both to Amazon for $39 total. Red Dead Redemption just got a little bit cheaper!

Score!

In the grand glory that is mad-cap Blockbuster, this is why:
Price drops only happen on Mondays. No price drop tomorrow

tiv for damnation dropped to $6. X360 rogue warrior still at $22
Picked up
BRB 360 and Kingdom Hearts DS for $16.11 inc tax

Traded to Amazon for $34.50

Thinking about getting two more copies of BRB for $16.11....
Whoa. Beatles Rock Band's TIV went back to $19.25 at Amazon. O_O
Nice, I think I'll go pick up another 4 stack of BRB 360 and shovel them off to Amazon.

Still, Rogue Warrior is more than $22 (even used) at GS. Unless you're looking for some credit conversion, how would you be making money?

It's just to convert GS credit to BBV credit, with the risk of infuriating fellow CAGs by buying up all the used Rogue Warriors.
