Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Damn, BRB dropped value on Amazon FAST. Gazelle's value dropped to $13 today, too. I'd say Amazon jacked it up to match Gazelle, but once they realized Gazelle had dropped their TIV, decided they should too.

I went out and had a decent haul on Saturday. Lots of good Wii/360 games in the prepacks for $6.99 ($3.50 after discount), such as Call of Duty 4, COD World At War, Animal Crossing, Mario Super Sluggers, Boom Blox, etc.

I had to fight to get the correct discounts though, as cashiers want to ring them up out of order, and then it takes off the cheapest game instead of the same priced game (at some Blockbusters, others, the computer knows how to do it).

One guy actually told me when I was buying two $15 and two $6.99 games that I would get the two $6.99 games free. I said, not if you ring up the two $15 together and hit enter, then ring up the two $6.99 and hit enter. He said he knew that, but he's manager yelled at them for doing that, which seems insane to me. He said he'd do it for me anyway, after I argued, but he still rang them up out of order, so he had to give me a manual credit.

Another time I was buying $100 worth of games and clearance junk, so I just let the $5 extra I was paying on one $15 game that was rang up with a $10 game slide.

Eventually, rather than deal with cashier ignorance, I started passing up games unless I really wanted them, and just stuck to all $9.99 games or all $6.99 games.

Oh, and I got 60% off at a Blockbuster going out of business...Snuggies for Christmas gifts for like $6.XX each. Might go back now to see if there's anything left.
Is Mario & Sonic at the Olympics still trading in for $22 at GS?!
When I went in they said it was $11 but I got the $25 off $29.99+ New game deal.

This type of shite infuriates me. :bomb:

Next time tell them you'd like to do separate transactions for every 2 games, also probably best to do it when there is a big line too. BB jackoffs.
Still, Rogue Warrior is more than $22 (even used) at GS. Unless you're looking for some credit conversion, how would you be making money?

It's just to convert GS credit to BBV credit, with the risk of infuriating fellow CAGs by buying up all the used Rogue Warriors.
Saltybone is correct, it's to convert GS credit to BBV credit so that I don't have to use cash at BBV.

But you can still make some money from the transfer(very little-but I'm doing it).

Step 1 buy complete
iconxbox360.gif
Rogue Warrior Games in store (2 reasons, one, I want to convert the credits as fast as possible to buy the good games at BBV and two, I want complete copy only because BBV rejects them if I'm missing the manual). In store, $26.99 - Edge 10% = $24.29 (no tax) KEEP the receipts.

Step 2 trade them at BBV for Value card (giftcard) so that you make use the amount at other BBVs. Value is $22 for each game. Buy keepers and flippers.

Step 3 order as many as you need
iconxbox360.gif
Rogue Warrior online (doesn't need to be complete). Price is $24.99 - EDGE 10% = $22.49 - CAG16 = $18.89 (plus tax) = $20.21 per game. plus free shipping if over $25

Step 4 return all RWs with receipts and get your original $24.29 back as credit. At the same time, trade in all the flips you got from BBVs.

End result, you net $1.79 per transfer!!! And even if there was no profit, I would still do this.

I have a lot of BBVs and GSs near my house, at work, at church, near friends' houses, etc so nothing is out of the way for me.
Can anyone remind me when this ends? It's not in the OP and I don't remember on what page someone said it.
I was wondering the same thing.

Has anyone ever traded with Bestbuy and got less than estimated you?

Read this:
Q: When the item is received at the Trade-in Center, what happens if it is not worth what was quoted?

A: You will receive an email explaining why a different value was assigned. You have the choice of accepting the revised price, or having the item returned to you at your own expense.

isn't used game return period like 7 days? just don't want to get screwed by delayed processing and all that
Still, Rogue Warrior is more than $22 (even used) at GS. Unless you're looking for some credit conversion, how would you be making money?
Convert GS purchase to BBV credit for $22. During b1g1 sale at BBV, purchase multiple games currently tradeable for $25 at GS during their promo, for example Mario & Sonic ATOG which currently sells for $9.99 at BBV used.
Buy 4 copies of this game for a gross total of $19.98 ( getting two copies for free because of b1g1) then trade them all to GS for $25 a pop for a total credit of $100.

Shazaam!! You just made an estimated $78 profit off of one copy of Rogue Warrior at GS. Granted, you're only supposed to get the $25 credit on the trade for a qualifying game and qualifying purchase, but it is still money fo' nothin' (' ... and you chicks for free' :D).

This is diabolical.... I like it.
isn't used game return period like 7 days? just don't want to get screwed by delayed processing and all that
Yes, but for me, the Free value shipping is 2 days and 1 day for processing. So when I order on Sun. night, I usually get it on Wed., but definitely by Thur. I have had no problems with returns except the one where I bought 2 RWs at one time. I only returned 1 RWs on that receipt and Trade in another RW at BBV. (I received some completes from online).

Amazon TIV for X360 RB:Beatles dropped for the second time today and is now at $15. I've never noticed prices changing this much before. Are the quantities being flipped from BBV that significant???

Best Buy credit is still $20. Even if you didn't want the BBY credit you could worst case get 90% value for it from Plastic Jungle.

Assume 7.50 per copy for BRB...

7.50 -> 20 BBY credit

20 -> 18 (90%) AMZ credit via Plastic Jungle

Still a total profit of something like 11.50!

I want to flip some BBV games to GS for the $25 off new game deal, is there anything anyone has had problems with?

Like are any games no longer eligible, do you need cases sometimes, etc.

Thanks!

Although this prob should be in the GS thread but may benefit some here. There's a way to cash out gs credit if you live in ca. Pm me and I'll let u know cuz it's working the system (at least the guy at gs told me) but it still works

Picked up 2 copys of BRB today and flipped them to Amazon, man i'm just starting to really get into this trade site and it's pretty fun to get a deal like this

If you're just getting the $29.99 games to keep than you should be fine. Also, GS doesn't charge extra if you only have the disc. All of the games I traded in were just the prepack and the took 'em no problem.

possibly. i was about to buy some ps3 metallicas, which had an amazon value of $19 late last week and it is already down to $12. hopefully my rock band 2's don't drop b4 they receive and process them. i'm leaving school early just to take the package down to a ups store.

BE CAREFUL it's really addicting...trust me I know

Been flipping for a year now and my gaming budget used to be $1200 a year now I probably spend just maybe 100 in cash a year and get to buy every game I want with the credit I amassed. But it does take a lot of time but it's worth it to me.
there were some rental conversions this week. Hopefully all stores have done them and put them out by now as it wasn't very big(20-25 games). It varies by store but not much and the stuff that did get converted this week were the newer games that wouldn't qualify for the sale.
@hawaiiboy
R u actually in hawaii? I've managed to score some deals but a lot of the games mentioned in this thread aren't working at either the mililani or wahiawa blockbusters. the employees there are now pissed since i keep asking them for scans. although, i buy a lot of stuff whenever i'm there so they have no grounds for bitching.

what Oahu blockbusters do you have 1st hand knowledge about?

Anyway, i'm not getting the following deals:
overlord 2 ps3 for $14.99
red faction guerilla ps3 for $14.99
x-blades (any platform) for $14.99 or $.9.99
brutal legend ps3 $14.99
rock band beatles any platform for $14.99 or 9.99, etc.

Traded in my Beatles Rock Band and extra copy of Brutal Legend and Marvel Super Hero Squad (DS) and got $20 cash. So pretty much got what I paid for them. Didnt really want credit on Amazon.

Went to a second store after and they didnt have as great of a selection as the first store but I picked up:

$14.99
-----------
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (360)
Overlord 2 (PS3)

$9.99
------------
Loco Roco 2 (PSP)
Metal Slug Anthology (Wii)

Anyone know if there will be a drop on any $20 titles before this sale ends? I have my eye on Band Hero and Guitar Hero Smash Hits

U guys made me fail an exam 88/150 pts. but the prof said if we get an A (90%) on the final, we get an A for the class. Still, i just want to take the time to say thanks for turning me into a god damn cag'er. And by that I mean I hope you all burn in hell!! lol

Anything for the youth of America. Hell, I'm 22, and I've been on CAG for over 3 years, so I know how you feel, haha.

i doubt its all because of cag. whatever you can flip on cag is a drop in the bucket compared to a better grade in a class.

Oh almost past initiation then!!

Picked up my obligitory copies of BRB and GH: SH to flip to BB.

It was $14.96 after using $1.41 credit I had left at BBV from flipping Fairytale Fights. :p
I thought the $25 off a game deal was for two games traded in... Man I missed that boat.
Well, haven't really missed it since it's still going on till 4/25. Question is if you can get anything to trade on the cheap.

The mililani folks are probably pissed because I was pestering them with scans the week before. Don't know about the Wahiawa one, I only managed to visit that one the day before the B1G1 began lol. But yeah I also wasn't having alot of luck with some of these games there... Brutal Legend of PS3 rang up for $50, Kingdom Hearts DS for $25 to name a few.

Wow, just got this in yesterday for $19.25! Rock Band 2 also fetched $19.75. Good day at BBV.
BRB for 360 dropped to $15 on Amazon...better hurry.
Yeah that is mis-marked. It's listed at $19.99 at my local BBVs. Waiting for it to get down to $14.99/$9.99.

I stopped in to a local BBV with my roommate earlier today, and picked up :360:Red Faction Guerilla, :360:Lost Odyssey, :360:007: Quantum of Solace, and :psp:Dissidia: Final Fantasy. He grabbed :360: Watchmen, :360:Brutal Legend, :360:The Club, :360:Condemned 2. I think I'm going to have to stop in again when I get paid on Friday and pick up Beatles RB and a couple of other titles.
