Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Does anybody know if Blockbuster will ship a used game to a different Blockbuster?

its a ymmv deal. i've done it for people but i'm guessing ur gonna get a bunch of no we cant do that. they can do that they just choose not to.

Lol ok so I've been looking for Eternal Sonata for like 2 weeks in different Blockbusters and I finally found one about 30+ miles away, I asked the guy to ship it to the one near me and he seemed like he didn't want me to do it he's like

"Yeah we can do that i guess... I mean it takes like a long time... like a week or longer...do you really want to wait that long?"

With a bunch of sighs and long pauses inbetween. He tells me to call my local BB to have them call him back to confirm the shipping so I call my local one and they told me to call him back and confirm the shipping with them lol? I guess it's too much trouble for someone to pick up a phone and click a button or two.

Regardless they took my name and number and told me it'll be in within a week however I'm not feeling very confident I'll actually get a phone call. I suppose It's a lot of trouble for just a used game but I mean come on.

Are you unable to drive the 30 miles? I mean, my closest BBV is 25 miles and I've gone there 3 times during this sale. Plus, considering how this sale has made Eternal Sonata seem like the game that is pretty high on the list of 'I'm going to keep this and not flip it' games, I think it'd just be worth it to drive. That's me, personally. Either way, I hope you can get it. It's already in my backlog, I'm looking forward to starting it. A buddy of mine beat it and said it's fantastic, and he really dislikes JRPG's, so that's pretty shocking.

Well sadly I do not have a car at the moment so I rely on others and I honestly don't feel like asking somebody to drive me there and back for a 10 dollar game. Trust me if I had the means to do so I'd be there right now but I just don't think it's worth it to ask someone to help me out to save 5 dollars. The BB near me is only 4 miles away.

Ok, I figured that was probably the main reason. Oh well, best of luck getting them to actually move it for you.

It's the 14th now. The sale ends on the 19th. Do you REALLY think if they ship the item that it's going to make it to the closer BBV before the sale's end?

Stop being lazy and drive the 30 miles to the store with it already.

WTF is with newbies not wanting to do the legwork but wanting the actual deal(s)? Unless you're driving a damn Humvee it'll cost you less in gas and aggravation at the employees balking on shipping the item and get you it BEFORE the sale ends than sitting here going 'durrr why won't dey ship dis game for me. they're lazy'.

You know how many Blockbusters I drove to during the last B1G1? At least TEN of them, with 2-3 of them being about 25 miles away from my house.

He explained why. :shame:

Seems logical to me except I also doubt he'll get it before the deal's over.

Thanks for reading the thread you intelligent person you! My Local BB has no end date to the B1G1 sale anyways she told me she expects it to go on for a few more weeks. What's with these "vet" tools always ragging on new people? I'm sure you're making a killing on savings with all that driving around.

Drove even further today. Hit four BBVs. Nothing worth noting at all. Only picked up the following since the price seemed right:

You know how many Blockbusters I drove to during the last B1G1? At least TEN of them, with 2-3 of them being about 25 miles away from my house.
Not having a car would be the one reason to not make the drive, but as he said, that's the reason. I'm with you though. I live smack in a dead zone for BBV. It's minimum 25-30 min drive to hit one and I've hit all of them at least once - some three times.

My brother was bored enough to drive me 20 miles to a BB and it was a waste of time as they had nothing so I'm not putting anybody through that again. The guy working at the store with the game I wanted even said he only had about 10 games left so finding something to match it with probably wouldn't have happened anyways. Like I said if I had a car of my own I would be home by now playing my game. I'm sure they'll honor me the sale price if it does happen to end before I get it anyways.

Got RB2 for PS3 and Beetles RB for 360 for 14.99. Both complete, gonna keep BRB and flip RB2 to Amazon for 19.75. They added these games since the last time I was there, glad I have kept up with the thread.
Thanks for reading the thread you intelligent person you! My Local BB has no end date to the B1G1 sale anyways she told me she expects it to go on for a few more weeks. What's with these "vet" tools always ragging on new people? I'm sure you're making a killing on savings with all that driving around.

Don't feel like the Newbs are special. IATCG "rags" on everyone, it is his role here on CAG. Personally, I find it entertaining, but that is just me. And it is the internet, don't take it so personally.

All I know is I need to stop at some point...too much driving, yet the thrill of the hunt is ever so fun. Well...except for those disappointing moments when you find nothing. Otherwise I'm pretty content with what I've gotten.

Picked up 4 more today:

:360: Chromehounds
:360: Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia
:360: Jumper: Griffin's Story (terrible-ass game, but I've played for a total of 15 minutes and earned 450 gamerscore...)
:ps2: Ratchet & Clank

Each was $2.50 after the B1G1, which is the main reason I even bothered to pick them up. $2.50 a piece is just stupid cheap.

$2.50 would probably be my breaking point for Monster Madness or Jumper. Both suck, but for $2.50, it's still a videogame, that's more than worth it.

i think we all can agree, the hunt is the most thrilling part of all this

ps....just look at all of our backlogs

I disagree. The most thrilling part is fighting the same enemy in Jumper over and over and over again. It's awesome. ;)

Heh, 30 miles is nothing. I drove over an hour once (during a gamecrazy sale last fall) to pick up a $10 rock band drum kit.

For myself, picked up four more games for the 360.

Rock Band: Beatles
Army of Two
FEAR
FEAR Extraction Files

I didn't really see much of anything for a 4th game there (slim pickings the 2nd time around for games I didn't already own). For the 4th game, the only other choices I had that didn't suck complete balls (imo) was either Sonic The Werewolf or Street Fighter IV (I suck at 2D fighters, but if I get it, I'd wait for Super SFIV). Forgot actually, they also had Halo Wars but I was never an RTS person, so that one didn't get much consideration.

For me, it's not just finding that special game you want that's somehow been passed over until you get there 5 days after the sale started. It's the shock on the cashier's face and the grin I can't hold back when it rings up less than sticker price. Warm and fuzzy feeling all over. :whee:

Although it does happen much more at Sears clearances.

Hit up a new BBV today and was very pleasantly surprised... lots of nice stuff including both Wii and 360 prepacks (no Mario stuff though), and a complete Beautiful Katamari :360:.

Prepack CoD4 :360: and CoD WaW :360: also, which I have no interest in, but if any other North Jersey CAGs are looking for these, PM me for the location.

im late for this sale but finally stopped by local blockbuster, managed to get Ninja Gaiden 2 and Indiana Jones Staff of Kings for $9.99.

I used some Gamestop credit to trade in a Rogue Warrior to my Blockbuster today. I ended up getting three Drawn to Life for Wii and one Jonas for DS- they trade in for $10 and $9, respectively, to Gazelle.

Went to BBV and saw a bunch of games but nothing that I wanted.
PS3 games i saw that i remember:
Devil May Cry 4, Red Faction Guerrila, Guitar Hero World Tour, Virtua Tennis 3, Legendary, Quantam of Solace

Also, I think I'm addicted to video game sales. I dont have any money and I dont need any more games but I cant stop from going. I blame Hollywood Video.

And when I come back and found out I should have bought something (like Rock Band 2, for nearly 20 bucks in trade at amazon) it pisses me off for the rest of the day.

lol, i know what you mean. Today I went back to a BBV to buy the 2 complete Soul Calibur psp games I saw there 7 days ago. Definitely worth it imo. I should have known back then that they were worth something.
i think im too late for this.. if there was any Ds games they would of been grabbed up by now
Went (again) today and there were about 20 DS games nobody had even touched across 3 stores. Worth checking bud - you never know what was put out on Monday or what is in the bottom of the bins everyone complains about BUT still hold treasures. Particularly as the DS games always end up on the bottom.....
There's one more chance for Wet and Fight Night to drop, right? IE, next Monday the sale is still going on?
True, though the true goldmine of this sale was the POGs.....

My most recent scores include NCAA Football 10 and Gears of War 2, both POGs, 7 bucks out the door. I love it!

Hit up the same store 3 times now and still left a lot there, sadly no POG's. Here's the haul:

SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 2
Sonic Rivals 2

Marvel Super Hero Squad

It's been reported that the 19th is the end of the sale a couple of times at least in the thread from what I've seen. Some of my BBV stores thought the sale was only running for last weekend and that was it.

As far as driving around, I've hit THREE of the five or so local stores, but only if I was going to be in the area. One of the stores is right down the hill from my house, literally not even a mile from here.

Unfortunately, another fellow local CAG and whoever else hit them already cleaned them out of 2010 sports game POG's and anything else flippable or decent, so I decided not to even recheck the store.

I didn't read the part about you having no car and I do apologize for coming off as rude, but you find a way to get in on these sales when they happen.;)
I've seen it mentioned before but whats the current tiv at bbv for rougue warrior ps3 or 360
They don't take game trades in the middle of the night!
Somehow Drawn to Life (Wii) increased to $10 on Gazelle. I guess they want more than the 8 I already sent them?!
On Amazon as well. They have (or will have) plenty of those from me as well. I saw even more in some new (to me) stores I checked out today. In fact, I bought one at a really far away store and the clerk told me some guy came in and bought 32 games the first day of the sale. I can't complain as I bought almost that many at a different store the first day myself ;). Despite that, they still had some good fodder left even nearly 2 weeks later though. I'm guessing he just went for the big sellers and left the Amazon/Gazelle kiddie game flips as being unprofitable.

I think $22 for the 360 version at least - not sure if the PS3 one is the same... I don't want to go through the hassle of losing money on the GS trades so I never bothered.

Got 3 Beatles Rock Bands and my fourth game happened to be Dirt 2 for Xbox!!! The guy mixed up the wii version for the xbox one :D and traded the 3 Beatles Rock Bands for Amazon credit when it was still $19.25 and will possibly trade Dirt 2 for $25 at gamestop.

Rogue Warrior PS3 is $10

I picked up a grip of games in this sale. As cheap as they are its hard to argue with some games, even if they aren't the best.

I grabbed (X360):
Bionic Commando
Ghostbusters
Terminator: Salvation
FEAR 2
Ninja Blade
LotR: Conquest

Averaging about $6 per game, I figure even if I only play them for a few hours each, I still got my monies worth. Only bad thing was finding out Ghostbusters has glitched achievements and that EA just pulled online from LotR: Conquest.

I bought and completed this game back in Feb. and had no problem at all with the achievements, the only problem I had was those damn stone angels towards the end....

If you didn't have a seizure while playing console games that you bought for $6, you got your monies worth.
