Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Are the BB TIVs favorable against Gazelle? You can trade for cash and buy that dyson vac anywhere (like costco).
That is good to know. I think everyone should post their hopes, dreams and what they want to buy in the future. This thread will really benefit from that.
I'd like to buy more comments like this (now and in the future).

I thought CAG was supposed to save me money -- I just end up spending more money on games I normally wouldn't buy, just to get the "deal". Damn! :(

But they are the greatest Vacuum ever. Trust me they are an unstoppable force of epicness.

I concur. I bought one last year, and it's definitely the best.

They're good for about 2 years. But then they suck --- well, that's actually the problem they don't suck --- don't fall into the trap of their promise of never losing suction power. We've had two (had a extended warranty on the first one). And the same thing occured. Will never pay the outrageous prices for a Dyson again.
Lego Rock Band is $20 at BB, right? So $40 for spending $15 for two copies if it does drop. :D
That's what I did with Destroy All Humans. About as much of a flip as I'll ever do.

My local BBV supposedly restocks the used games for sale on Sunday, and they go into effect Monday morning.

Rentals are $8.99/5 days.

anyone have any luck asking for a transfer so you could get the BOGO free?

Reminds me...seems most "regular" blockbuster customers are oblivious to this sale. I saw someone rent Gears of War at one store. $9 to rent when they could have paid $10 and owned it and another game (I checked after they left, and sure enough, there was one copy for sale).

Is this game actually any good? I saw it when I was at BBV yesterday, but didn't bite because I haven't heard anything about it, positive or negative. I haven't played any of the others, either.

I went to the Tierrasanta Blvd BBV and I got Rainbow Six Vegas (PS3) for 6.99. They had a bunch of 360 games for 6.99 but I don't have a 360, so I got Ant Bully (Wii) for my nephew as my free game. I also saw Rock Band Metal Track Pack and Terminator Salvation (PS3) for 10 bucks.

Hey guys just bought ghostbuster and beatles rockband no cases :( only the game. They haven't put out any game out its in their shelf. Have to ask the cashier if I want any game . They are probably just waiting for the sale to be over and they will put out their games. Should I return those two games because it has no case and manual. Ghostbuster seems to be not worth the 8 bucks I divide the total 16 dollars. I know I can buy the game at new egg or at gamefly for 9.99 with complete case and manual. The main reason why I pick Ghostbuster to be the second game because that is the only game that I can think of at that moment and I can't see what games they have in their shelf they have to search in their computer first if they got the used game in stock and I can't think of any 14.99 games to combine with beatles rock band. So should I just return it. Is there any place I can buy game cases?.

You should definitely keep them. Or definitely return them, I can't decide.

Check out any closing Hollywood Videos you have in your area(if any) for game cases with manuals. That's where I got the several hundred I have.

Went to a noncorporate Blockbuster just for the hell of it. Man they have a nice selection of games. Its too bad they arent in on this sale. Managed to find a mint BlazBlue Limited Edition for $19.99. Picked that up. :)

Mine lost power so I got my little compressor and blew forced air through the tapered cylindrical part at the top of the clear collection chamber. A LOT of dust came out and it works great agin.

I checked a further off BBV tonight and I saw FF: Dissidia and FF: Crisis Core for PSP, along with a ton of other less memorable stuff(including a lone copy of Xmen Origins Wolverine for Wii marked $14.99.

CC is 9.99, dissidia is 14.99. I grabbed the copies from our store. Probably should've flipped, but then the FF name made me keep them. I didn't even like VII that much either, oh well!
Where are you getting cheap Rogue Warriors? GS has it for $25, so obviously not there.
its not cheap. think transfer.

Hit up every BBV in my area like 4 or 5 days ago. Ended up getting 13 copies of BRB (all complete), Tom Clancy's HAWX, The Bigs 2, and one BBV had Lego Rock Band priced at $10 so they did a manual price override. So all in all in the last week I got:

-3 mispriced copies of Dirt 2 to flip to GS and Transformers Revenge of the Fallen for $30
-Layton and the Curious Village to trade to Amazon and Project Sylpheed for $7
-Transformers and Star Wars Clone Wars Republic Heroes for $4.60 (they gave me a $5.40 credit due to a bunch of mistakes on their end)
-13 copies of BRB, Lego Rock Band, The Bigs 2, and Tom Clancy's HAWX for $120

So for a total of $171 or so I got $351 to GS/BB/Amazon plus 7 games for myself. Not a bad week or so if you ask me.

Rogue Warrior is actually $26.99 now, makes the transfer of credit a little less equal but still probably worth it if you actually have stuff left at BBV you want.
don't get wet, i hated that game. not worth $5
I want WET though...well if it drops in price that is.
Has anyone seen Uncharted 1? One of the only games I need at the moment.
Actually yes, I saw one but it was several days ago, in a generic case. Just because I'm a nice guy I'll swing back and see if it's still there.

the biggest problem is there is absolutly no time to play all this shit, this is by far the worst gaming backlog i have ever had, expecially with ssf4 comming out next week. I dont even know where to start, Thanks CAG.

spent over $2000 in Blockbuster in a little over a month, between B1g1 and 3 Blockbuster closings in NYc, its been a really good 1-2 months. bought Like 30 Transformers revenge of fallen, 10 beatles rock bands, 10 Drawn to Lifes for wii, My spot was giving me 22 cash for beatles RB and 26 credit. Drawn to life was getting me like 13 cash and 15 credit. Transformers Was like $15 cash and $17 credit. kung Fu panda for Ps3 and kung Fu panda legendary Warriors For DS and Wii were really nice flips till my spot dropped the prices, as was Marvel superheroes wii, Dirt 2 Wii, Super Sluggers, mario and Sonic olympics for dS and wii was one of the best $5 each and flipped for 21 apiece. fingers crossed for Motorstorm pacific rift, beatles RB(ps3) snd infamous as drops this week

Picked up GH: SH :ps3: and RB2 :ps3: today for $15.97

Both flip to BB for $20/each toward my iPad. :D

There was a guy looking through the games when I came in that had a handful of DS games along with Rogue Warrior and BRB. He put a few back, but I still got two $20 @ BB games for $15 @ BBV. :D

Picked up Virtua Fighter 5, Bully and SW Clone Wars for 360 and Drawn to Life Wii for 20 total today. Last night I grabbed Sonic Unleashed and Earth Defense Force for the 360 for 10. Great sale - addictive though!

whats the likelihood of corporate telling a BBV to transferring one of these game rental to pre-owned to buy?

my local store has the following but only to rent:
2X Super Mario Galaxy
3X Mario Sonic At Olympic Games
5X Super Smash Brother Brawl!!

my stores says they rent out too much to sell those games...i have been in there 5 times the last 2 weeks...they are never rented out

actually called a store to get a manager to transfer a game from rental to buy...apparently she asked her "manager" who said NO stores are allowed to transfer games from rentals to buy unless corporate says so... apparently BBV makes contracts with video game copies to not sale games, only rent them...hmmmm I thought ppl her had got managers to do it for them b4

if its anything like hwv...its difficult to get any mgr to transfer rental to buy. ...only work around to this is renting it and coming back in later to tell them you lost it so that way you could buy it. If they do the sale with that...totally up to them. I always did it...but some mgrs might not be so nice if they're losing a good copy of something.

....gonna go check out my local bbv today to see what i can find. I've got a bbv gift card sitting in my purse just waiting to be used. :)

no price changes to report so hopefully it will download by tomorrow.

the transfer report came thru and there wasnt anything new that is going to be transferred that would qualify for the sale. similar to last week when most of the transfers were new games.
