Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Is there any rhyme or reason to the unmarked price drops? Don't want to to carry a stack of games to the front to be scanned :)
They just didn't have the time or make it a priority to reprice all of the games affected. I figure as many as 1 out of 3 games that I've bought during the sale have had a higher price on them.

Gotcha. Well, unfortunately, the only game I'm interested in right now is DIRT 2 360, and that is still at $24.99. Going to have to wait a while for that one to drop.

They also had Wolverine 360 marked at $19.99.

Found a few good things today. Couple complete copies of Toy Story Mania (that'll probably end up going to GS - I'll take $18.90 after bonuses), Soul Calibur psp & Marvel SHS ds. Also Where the Wild Things Are & Velvet Assassin for $5 each to play. Not bad at all for the last day of the sale.

Got Toy Story Mania and Beatles RB Wii. Both were still tagged $19.99.

For some godawful reason both were disc-only (generic BBV case, no manuals). This is my local store and they are usually pretty good about keeping stuff so I don't know why that was. Both discs look mint so I got them anyway. They were able to give me one of the 2 rental cases for Toy Story Mania but since they only had one Beatles RB they couldn't on that one.

I also found a new rental conversion: Where The Wild Things Are for PS3. I had seen the 360 version all over the place in the last few weeks but never the PS3 and I had seen it behind the counter along with a bunch of copies of God of War III - all were put out as new rental conversions yesterday probably. No Cars Race-O-Race, GH Metallica, or World of Zoo, but I can most likely find those at one of the bigger stores later. As soon as my wife gets her filling done, I'm off to more stores ;).

The new GS promo is $40 towards Mario Galaxy 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, or UFC when you trade games from a list.

http://www.gamestop.com/gs/specialty/tradeins/save40/

Toy Story Mania, as well as Mario Sluggers, Galaxy 1, Brawl, Olympics (both) are on the list of games for the promo.

Question: if this is toward a preorder, can't you just change the preorder to something else? I'm sure these sorts of promos have come up in the past but I've never bothered to take advantage of them.

There's also this one:

30% Trade Bonus

Get an extra 30% trade bonus on any 360, PS3, Wii, DS or PSP games traded.

Expires: 5/16/2010. Offer not good on cash trades. Trades must be in full working condition to receive full value. Offer good towards games normally accepted in trade only. Cannot be combined with any other offer. Trade-ins subject to manager approval. See store associate for details. No dealers. Offer valid in the United States, Puerto Rico and Guam only.

With the good thing being no need to trade 6 games to get the bonus. Yeah, it's only 30% instead of 40% but good for those single games you may want to dump.

Thanks for that safire. There's a GS to GS flip on there if you only have 1 of the qualifying games and need another. Call of Juarez (PS3) is on the list and GS sells it for $20 (new)/ $18 (used). I'm sure it won't last long before they catch it, so you may want to hurry.

Anyone seen a drop on Killzone 2 today? It's been $20, and I was hoping it would drop to $15 today so I could pair it with a Resistance:FoM I found at the same BBV.

Man, today is shaping up to suck. First I went to my local BBV, where yesterday three Toy Story Manias were within my sight. Today I went back to pick them up, and the employee there couldn't find them. She checked in the computer to see how many she had- three. We both know that they're somewhere behind the counter, but I knew she'd get annoyed and WOULDN'T look if I stuck around, so I left to go to the one in Crossville. I drove 15 minutes using directions from Google Maps, but stopped because something didn't feel right to ask for directions. Well... It turns out Google Maps replaced the destination I had put in there with something else, so the drive was actually about twenty minutes longer than I expected. I would have had to haul ass to get there and back before my next class, but then another problem came up.

I locked my damn keys in the car. T_T

So my dad had to use his lunch break to drive fifteen minutes to bring the car unlocker thingy, and by the time he got there, it was too late for me to head out there. And I would head out there later today, but I just so happened to be scheduled for work right after class. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get off in time to see if my BBV has found the Toy Story Manias- but if they don't, I won't be able to get them in time for the B1G1, and I'll be pissed off. Today sucks.

As for other drops that Hawaiiboy's store might not have had, I tried checking at my local store but they claimed not to have a price change report this week . If the "good" dude was there he would have shown it to me (because I know they have one since they had Toy Story and Beatles RB for Wii). Oh well...

But BingoBrown, there are a LOT of $19.99 games that have been that way for a while. It seems they were fairly limited with what they dropped though. I'm sure a lot more will drop over the next few weeks - they we have to hope they stick around till the next B1G1 (July maybe?).

Aside from Wild Things PS3 it seems like SpongeBob Truth or Square for DS was also a recent pull, as I saw it at 2 stores that had not had it before. Priced at 9.99 I decided to give it a try.
Now I just have to remember the store I saw 6 of the Toy Story games at. Unfortunately I think it was one quite a ways away from me.

I noticed where the wild things for 9.99 also. i got lucky with toy story and guitar hero. unlucky with tink cuz they gave me the regular version which was only 7tiv at gamestop, but that went to 9.80, so hell i still doubled my money, but wish they would have put the right game in. She asked me and i was like yeah whatev tinkerbell. lol
Yes, get a DS for cripes sake! Those are some good pickups. And yes, Lock's Quest is an awesome game...
And thank you, io, for the recommendation on
iconds.gif
Lock's Quest. It's been really fun. And the Nintendo DS has been fun in general; it's hard to share with my wife and kids, so maybe I will need to buy another one. I feel like an idiot not having one for so long since the games are so well done, but I guess it's good to wait since now everything is cheaper.

Boring story for the on-topic police to skip: I bought the DS with flipping credit from GS and wrapped it (along with 5 games from this B1G1 BBV sale) for my birthday. First I had my sons (ages 9 and 7 and 3) unwrap the games. They obviously know what a DS is and were confused at first: why I would get DS games for my birthday if we didn't have a DS? I told them that I think they work in the GBA, so I had them try. They were upset when they didn't work and I told them we'd just have to return the DS games.

Then I pulled the wrapped DS from the cupboard and let them unwrap that, too. They were ecstatic. Is was fun to see their faces and surprise.

So back on topic, buying super cheap games is awesome. :)

i did mine online with best buy

dunno about in store

the location here in miami beach has a ton of used games. mostly for the wii.

they put all the ones 14.99 and under in those clear plastic cases. the discs are in the white envelopes they use to store rentals. and those are placed in bins.

i got 2x beatles rock band for the 360. so i took 2 boxes up and they told me the games are in the bins so i grabbed them.

some have original boxes out on the floor though most games do not.

they have a few pogs left too.
i did mine online with best buy

dunno about in store
thanks :D guess ill trade it in now.

Dunno what to do with Beautiful katamari.
Infamous didn't drop, did it? I would be so happy if it did...
Still 19.99 on my end it seems. Got it checked just in case. Oh well...it was fun while it lasted.
flipped:

1 x Beatles rock band
1 x toy Story Mania
1 x Cars -race o rama
1x Cars - Race o rama (without manual)

Paid: $33

Best Buy Credit: $70

thanks CAG!!!

MAKE SURE THE GAMES YOU ARE GETTING HAVE: Cover Art, Case, Manual !!! you get more for your trade in @ Best Buy
hey you got $70... were these quoted at 20 each and did they not give you the full $20 for one of them because of the missing manual?

I'm wondering because I have a game I've been holding on to trade in to dealtree(bestbuy) or a locked in trade for amazon that i'm missing the manual on (DAH)
Was DS Spongebob Truth or Square $9.99? If so, that's a price drop because I got one for $15 at the beginning of the sale.

correct... only got $10 on one of the CROR due to not having a manual...

on check out you have the option to say if the game is complete(with case and manual) or not.

i told the truth so i dont get anything kicked back upon inspection.

TBH, i did do a little digging around my local BBVs and GSs to see if they had the manual for CROR.. but no luck so i took the $10 hit

damn thanks for the info... I'm asking because I can get $13 for it at amazon so I may do that if i'd only get $10 through dealtree

some companies like ubisoft are getting rid of paper manuals in general to go more green.. so to be honest penalizing for not having a manual should start to phase away

infamous didnt drop. i checked. also thnx for the info on toystory/callofjuarez flip. i just ordered another coj off gs for $11 with couponcodes/promos. i already flipped 2 toystorys for 19, but another $ is great. thanx alot!

you might want to check the trade in requirements for amazon.. i believe it is the same requirement as far as case and manual

if you read the faq page in the cag thread.. it seems its YMMV .. different people have had different experiences... some have reported sending in items in less then perfect condition and getting the full trade in quoted

but your right there is the possibility i'll run into the same thing

i guess i'll just have to hope for the best whichever i choose

Good Luck!

doh! i went back and grabbed where the wild things are for ps3, didnt know what else to grab so i just got x360 version. dumb move. i should have known all 360 tivs were less, oh well. they had spongebob too, with $4 higher tiv but i didnt even think. oh well. win some break even some.

Not bothering with the few price drops I saw we had at work for today. Need to -stop- spending money =/.

Spent just under 300 for 6 games and 535 amazon credit. Works for me.

I hope my local GS that said they'll allow duplicates if I have a receipt will still allow them, as I plan on cleaning out my closest BBV, which still has about 7-8 or so copies of TSM.

If not though, they're all complete, off to Best Buy they go(assuming I check them all and they're mint as well as complete).

They also have a lone copy of Beatles Rock Band for Wii and Cars: Race-O-Rama, but BRB is disc only so I'll have double check what GS gives for that again.

I'm probably going to try duplicates for cash money at Gamestop on TSM, assuming the TIV is still around $13 each, though maybe I'll quickly build up some credit for whenever they have a B2G1 again there.

I know that you know where to find it (and probably already checked) but it's relevant so I'll post here. I got $9 base for my 360 copy today. I beleive that Wii gets more.

Thanks Gertle. I'm gonna call my local GS that has allowed multiples from me before and see if they still will if I have a receipt. If so, then off to BBV I go, followed by there. I'm still debating between cash or credit though.

Picked up..

1x Wii Beatles Rockband
1x Wii Guitar Hero: Metallica
4x Wii Toy Story Mania

Total to Gazelle was $85.
I know I could of recieved more at BB but screw waiting a month.

Thanks io, and everyone who contributed to this latest sale update. I made out very nicely on games to play. And I didn't even go out of my way. Just in two stores found Final Fantasy Dissidia, Soul Calibur psp, Pokemon Platinum, and Toy Story mania.

I saw one not on the list, although I guess it doesn't matter if the sale is ending tomorrow.

:ps3:Shellshock 2: Blood Trails - $4.99

I was going to buy it, but I couldn't find anything else in the same price range. I'm glad I didn't after seeing that Metacritic score.

Another price drop: Drawn to Life DS is now $9.99. Great price for a keeper game - too bad I bought one for $14.99 early on...

2 stores down- 1 with correct tags, 1 without.

picked up a couple of
Toy Storys
and Beatles Rock Bands

one of the Toy Story's had 3D glasses with it! I decided to keep one...anyone know if this game is any good? what about the 3d?

I also picked up Folklore as one of my free games but never played it...was thinking about exchanging it due to "skipping"

any suggestions on that? I just picked it up cuz I heard it was rare..

I also passed on Wario Shake it was listed at $14.99...was that a mistake?

well someone cleaned out the rochester, MI stores but I still managed to get a few of the beatles, race o rama, and the toy story game thanks to a few out of the way locations. I have time to wait for deal tree to deposit. I will let everyone know how it goes. I am going to make one more stop by the store 2 minutes from my house to see if they have any last impulse buys. Also got a Dynasty Warriors 6 today for $6.99 and Monsters vs. Aliens free both 360. What a great sale. Only thing that would have made it better would have been wet, lego rock band, and inFamous to have hit the $14.99 price

All my local BBVs were cleaned out, but I did manage to grab both Toy Story Mania and Cars Race O Rama to flip. Those were the only couples around any of the 4 stores I went to today.

I did see a Viva Pinata Pog at one, but there literally was nothing else remotely worthwhile to get with it.

If anyone needs a manual for Toy Story Mania! to make a complete set for trade in or just to keep, PM me. I somehow ended up with an extra one today.
