Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means [highlight]regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores[/highlight].

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

But seriously, does it really bother you guys that much that they ask for it? It's not even like it's a bad deal, since the soda and candy are normally $1.25+ at most places. Plus the popcorn, for a movie... it makes sense![/QUOTE]

A) No, it doesn't bother me. I've become conditioned to receive questions about credit cards, warranties, candy bundles, or fries when buying things.

B) Guaranteed, you could make the same bundle yourself for half that price if you tried.

[quote name='Velo214']oh no, i just said I got lucky with the store down the road when i rang them up, etc. i dont name names. lol. they just get curious when i ask for b1g1 for 19.99 marked games, then when they see the price they are like, oh yeah i was lazy and gonna retag it later i guess you checked down the street, and im like. 'yeah' haha. on n yeah if i had 10 copies I would mail it in, i dont have that problem tho :) i only got 1 left and gonna do that and juarez 40 dealio.[/QUOTE]

Whenever this comes up for me, I just tell them I keep my ear low to the ground on these kinds of things. If they really persist (like when I have 8 games and 7 of them are tagged as being ineligible for the sale), I have a "a buddy of mine works at a BBV in NY and he lets me know when prices drop" story ready. Honestly, why would there be any negative heat on how we get the info? It's not like we're buying the product before they should be that price. We're just getting them hot off the press.

If the store didn't sell the game to us for that price, they'd sell it to someone else for that price the next day when it's properly tagged. I guess you could argue that their slackness in retagging could lead to the games not selling until the B1G1 sale is over. But if that's really that big of a problem for BBV, do your price drops the day AFTER your sales end. I'd never tell them verbatim where I get my info, but it's not like there's any criminal activity here.

Out of let's say 10 visits I was only asked once if i wanted a bundle, and that's cuz I had a soda and some candy already so it was a deal. but then i got more chocolate, lol. yeah apparently bbv is doing a new thing too with rentals over 10 days late where they charge your checking account or something. i dont rent there but this guy was yelling at the manager and eventually the manager took off the $10 charge and closed his account, but it was bs for the manager. the manager was like, it's a new rule and its printed on the receipt and you had 4 movies late for 16 days, etc. the customer was being a jerk saying how he could send it to the collection agency cuz he would never pay the fee. omg. chill out everyone. the guys just doing his job.

[quote name='n8rockerasu']I have a "a buddy of mine works at a BBV in NY and he lets me know when prices drop" story ready.[/QUOTE]
lol, maybe alot of us do that? That's my old standby also is that I have a friend who works at one in another state. Had to pull it out of the bag yesterday when the guy was wondering why I brought up 2 copies of TSM tagged $19.99.

And I agree that they really shouldn't care. They could even look at it as 1 less thing that they have to retag. We're making their job easier!

Well, this new BBV late fee/auto charge thing could backfire on them. I, too, was witness to someone coming in all upset about a Collection agency on them for $16 in fees. He, rightfully, was worried about his credit. It would suck to have that ruined over $16 in BBV late fees. That, right there, would be enough to cancel a membership, go to Netflix, and never set foot in a BBV again.

Anyway, as for knowing about the sale drops: I went to one of my regular stores where I've already been twice during this sale. The same 2 guys are always there. I think they were giving me a little bit of the evil eye yesterday even though they said I was their best game customer. But I knew all the drops they hadn't tagged yet and one of them started questioning me about it. I just told him "the Internet told me", and he let it go at that point. I was buying Cars, GH Metallica, 3 x Toy Story Mania, and a few other random things (including World of Zoo Wii which I didn't know had dropped from $14.99 to $9.99 so they actually made extra money off me since I paired it with a $14.99 game). They still had a lot of stuff leftover too. But when he went to look for the games he told me he could only find 1 Toy Story Mania. This was after he spent some time looking at the computer after bringing up my account. I think he was BSing me - it is even possible I have a note on my account from the DM not to sell more than 1 of anything (though if that's the case I wish he'd just have said so). This may have stemmed from me telling an employee at another store where the manager used to manage my local BBV to tell her that I "raided her store". It was a joke, but as usual they can take these things the wrong way and the DM in this district has given me trouble before. I didn't buy more than 2 of anything there but I did buy a lot of stuff - and after having gone back to that store yesterday it seems I did them a favor. They hadn't sold much since then and are still overflowing with B1G1 games.

Oh well, I don't feel the slightest bit bad about picking up extra Toy Story Manias on the very last day of the sale. They'll go to waste sitting there from today onwards, anyway. Plus, it wasn't like in the past where I used cheap credit from flipping multiple Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer or something. I spent real cash money during this whole sale and did my best to keep BBV afloat ;). I'm not going to skulk around and feel like I did something wrong in giving them lots of money.

haha, they said i was their best games customer too. and every time i showed up they would say that i took all the good stuff last time i was there. lol, n then i would leave with toy story, hannah montana, where the wild things are, etc. haha. i got more games for my kids than flips from bbv, and my grrls loved that hannah montana game. they spent hours decorating her clothes and riding her horse, haha.

Woke up with Eternal Sonata and Ninja Gaiden 2 sitting on my desk. Apparently my Blockbuster called and left a message and someone ran out and picked it up for me.

Absolutely. Whether or not they find it "suspicious" that we know about these price drops, they need to think of things from a business standpoint. Who the hell cares if one person buys 10 games or 5 people buy 2 games each, spaced out across multiple days? It means absolutely NOTHING to BBV's bottom line.

The Junior Detectives at the stores may think they're doing other customers a favor by making sure everyone gets a chance at the "good stuff", but it's not like that's store policy, and I'm sure corporate couldn't care less. They want product sold and done with. After all, that's the entire purpose of the sale. Any other "evil eye" or interrogating an employee does is just their own false sense of authority. It's not like we've got freaking insider trading going on here, haha.

I agree that we're not doing anything wrong here, but I don't think your logic is quite correct. Sales aren't just to get rid of product, it's to get people through the door who will (hopefully) buy other stuff while they're there. 5 people buying 2 games each is 5 people who might pick up a candy bundle or a rental, compared to just 1.

Ehh..I suppose that's a valid point. But you realize you're arguing that BBV is trying to get people into their MOVIE RENTAL STORE by enticing them with a used video game sale? If that's the only strategy they have left, I feel bad for them.

Don't forget about the enticing bagged pickles, shitty discount books, alice in wonderland shirts, and snuggies.

Totally! Why would they ever do something like offer discounted movie rentals when they have all those amazing goodies to lure customers in?!?

Plus it was the last day of the sale. I admit I didn't hold back yesterday. Well, I mean, I still did to a certain extent. I left a couple of Toy Story Mania at each store - I could have tried to get those too. A couple of the stores didn't seem to care and were happy I was back buying stuff. It all depends on the junior detective-ness of the employee ;). I need to find my old junior detective kit picture!

But I don't view this sale as an attempt to bring people in who would then rent/buy other stuff. It wasn't advertized at all so it really couldn't serve that purpose. I viewed it more as a way to dump their old converted rental stock TO those people who were in renting as usual. Thus, in that sense, any and all purchases we made were to their benefit. I mean, they are trying to recoup (and in some cases actually profit if the original rented just a few times before conversion) off their old rentals that they cleared off the shelves to make room for newer rentals.

Still, over the, what, 3 weeks of the sale I was probably in stores 15-20 times. I think only 3 times did I even see another person looking at the games - and 2 of those 3 times they just glanced at them and put them back. I only ever saw one other person buying anything. I mean, sure, they did sell stuff as some of the stores got rid of about half of what they put out, but still...

One of mine also has stouffers frozen entrees and a few other random items.

A small PSA guys, getting in on a deal is great and all, but life is more important. I'm not talking about "go out and do something with your life" but rather I'm talking about driving / walking safely to stores.

Yesterday, I was driving to Blockbuster when this car drove on the wrong side of the road in order to avoid making a U-turn about 3 minutes away, he would've hit my car if I didn't do a sudden stop. I honked my horn and he flipped me the bird. While I'm parking near Blockbuster, I see that same guy walking out the store with a bagful of cases, I was about to confront him for his reckless action, but my girlfriend stopped me saying to just let it go. I asked the store clerk and they confirmed that the guy bought all their Toy Story Manias and was in a hurry as he told them he had to go to another Blockbuster.

for me, despite some work involved, this has been the deal of the year, so far. sure, i had my fair share of FTFs and slept in on those nerf strikes. But this sale's scale sets it apart. there were at least two to three rounds of offerings. one could have (and i suspect many have) amassed triple digit balances across different avenues. plus TST -> SMG2/RDR2.

standing applause to hawaiiboy, io. :applause:

thanks to everyone else including flameliquid, IATCG, estebon, velo, jackie, papasmerf, dabamus, josh, vortex, chipster, etc.

what was the oddest thing you guys found?

for me,
1 brawl melee
1 beautiful katamari
1 pokemon pearl
1 pokemon diamond

I agree thank you all who were helpful in this last round. Toughest finds for me were

2 beautiful katamari's
1 metallica GH for $6.99
1 burnout paradise $6.99
1 dynasty warriors 6 complete $6.99
1 COD MW2 Ps3 $29.99 mistagged but left there

I was questioned at all 4 BBV's locally yesterday. None of them had the updated prices (was told by one manager that the email was down on Sunday)...told all of them my "cousin" that works at a BBV in (fill-in-the-blank-town) informed me of the drops.

Not much was available, only one BRB Wii, several Toy Stories and a couple Cars.

Off Topic: Has anyone had success uploading their new games onto their collections list on IGN?

For like the last week every time I go to add a new game to my collection it brings up a page with an Error.

My oddballs (ie, games I only ever saw once across 10+ stores on multiple visits):

:wii:
Animal Crossing
Boom Blox
Boom Blox Bash Party
Carnival Games MiniGolf
SSBB
Super Mario Galaxy
We Ski & Snowboard
World of Zoo (for Wii - saw lots of DS)

:360:
Blue Dragon
Burnout Paradise (yeah, you'd think this would be more common but I only ever saw one)
Harry Potter Order of Phoenix ($4.99)

:ds:
Brain Age 2
Mario Party DS
NSMB
Spectrobes Beyond The Portals
StarFox Command
Up
Wall-E

:psp:
GTA Chinatown Wars
Jak & Daxter Lost Frontier
Star Ocean Second Evolution
Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron

Nothing odd for PS3, strangely enough and yet that is the system I probably got the most keepers for. I just saw them at multiple places.

Yikes. I nearly had some woman hit my families' car the other day on the driver's side when I was stopped at a red light. She came up alongside the car within an inch of hitting the mirror. She was on her cell phone, of course.:bomb:

Only good thing to come out of it would've been that maybe her insurance would've paid to have the mirror replaced. It's got some sort of weird problem with it where the coating to make it a heated mirror is peeling off and making it impossible to see anything in it. I've heard it's a common problem for Buicks of that year.

I just hope that Blockbuster doesn't wait till they're even further on their death bed to do another BOGO.:D

This is interesting. I wish I would have kept better track of stuff I saw. I never saw Mario Party DS. :( I remember seeing a Kirby DS game case one time, but they suspiciously didn't have a copy. I never saw InFAMOUS or Killzone 2 or SSBB or Mario Galaxy. Only a couple Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. Next time I will be more detailed, I think. If there even is a next time...

Ditto on the thanks from me too. Pretty sure I turned about $150 into nearly $300 at Best Buy (for a specific purchase) and nearly $350 at GS. Some of my finds were...

12x BRB (got 2 for 6.99 POG price when dude couldn't find the cases)
3x Princess & The Frog DS
Mario & Sonic @ The Olympics
Mario Super Sluggers
Monsters Vs Aliens PS3 (for trophy whoring)

POG Finds
10x SSBB (at a single store, only bought 4 to not be a total douche)
3x Midnight Club LA
3x Need For Speed Undercover
2x Beautiful Katamari
Mario Party 8
Halo 3
Call of Duty 4
Call of Duty World @ War
(lots more)

Can't wait for the next time, assuming BBV is still around.

I just tired recently and I'm unable to as well.

Well...guess I'll check this thread when the next sale takes place or so. Then again might just pop on in to see if any price drops if anything.

That sucks. Reading this story made me feel sick in the pit of my stomach. You did the right thing by not confronting him because you might have done or said something that you would have regretted. At least you and your girlfriend were safe. That's what really matters. Not some a-hole and toy story games.

Did anyone try buying 2 games to confirm that the B1G1 is over? I read back a few pages and couldn't find any posts actually confirming that the promotion no longer works. I talked to some employees monday who told me it was the last day, but you never know for sure until u try.

Does anyone have any scans of their receipts from the good ol' days of Blockbuster trade ins? I am doing a presentation tomorrow about Blockbuster and how terrible some of their decisions are. I would like to highlight their ineptness here if possible.

Basically I am looking for scans or pictures of your Blockbuster receipts and corresponding receipt of where you got the game (GameStop, Best Buy, etc.). I know Kunai used to post his receipts from time to time but I cannot seem to find those in my 10 minutes of searching.

Post them here so we can laugh, or PM me if you want. I dont need your name or any personal info, just the TIV and the price it was bought at. Thank you!

I will see if I still have the one I got like $455 trading in like 27 360 games which in turn bought my first PS3 ha ha.. most games were from Sears clearance, etc and nothing over $15 out of my pocket originally.

One of my great ones was Dynasty Warriors:Gundam lol something like $35 TIV at that one time.

Dude, I bought 6 or 8 of those from circuit city and traded them all in at BBV's on my way home from circuit city. Ahh, good times. The TIV was 36 and I remember those days fondly. :)

One of the BBV employees really liked that I traded in that game because he told me a few months later he bought it really cheap. He was like "You're the guy who traded in the Gundam game! Thanks man, I bought it." At the time I didn't even remember what he was talking about, but I just smiled and nodded. He must really love Gundam.

I highly doubt they will be around much longer. I bet the next time I walk into a BBV is to check their store closing prices.

(Granted I hope this is not the case but if you have been following Blockbuster on more than just a deal basis you would see that their chances of survival are slim to nothing.)

WTWTA? Super easy. One of the sites around has a guide to find the various collectibles in the game and that's really all there is to it. I think it took me maybe 10 hours to complete.

For those who have done trades with Amazon from this...

I want to apply my gift card to a purchase, but Amazon is asking me to submit a "claim code" before moving on? Where in the world do I get a claim code at? I clearly see the $17 balance on the screen, but there's no way to get to it!

Any help is really, really appreciated - thanks!

Where are you seeing this? If you have a gift card balance it's usually automatically applied when you order something.

I'm a little confused with your question, but I'll try to answer it.

If you're trying to enter a claim code:
On Amazon click on the "Your Account" tab top right. You'll see a "Gift Cards" in the "Payment" section. Click on the "Apply a Gift Certificate/Card to Your Account" tab. Enter claim code in the designated box.

If you already have the money in your account then you just check out and it should automatically be deducted from the total. If not, choose to change payment type and click the box to pay w/ gift card/credit.

I was promted by the trade-in confirmation email to go to My Account and the "Enter Claim Code" page. I assumed that I had to first enter a code (which was never given to me) in order to complete the process.

If you're saying that my balance will automatically apply then great! I was not sure if I had to enter a code, but I guess that is for hard copy certificates and the like.

Thanks for the help!

If your trade-ins were accepted, your email should say something like "Gift Card Deposited" for each item, and the balance is automatically put in your account.

You can check your gift card balance at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/css/account/payment/view-gc-balance.html/
