Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Sadly, Blockbuster has cut down it's maximum trade-in value from $33-$35 to $25 or so and dropped all other values along with it. So welcome to the new world of Blockbuster featuring Gamestop trade-in prices (but without the Edge card and frequent trade-in deals to make it more appealing). Continue on if you feel like there is any need...

ALERT: Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale through June 7th!

http://www.facebook.com/blockbusterinc?v=app_17037175766

Blockbuster is currently running a Buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. Below is a list of $14.99 and under games from the last sale just to give you an idea of prices. However, all games $4.99 and UP count for this sale. So, for example you could get God of War III for $39.99 and get half off New Super Mario Bros. Wii (also $39.99 normally).

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas 2007 and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Dec 2008) most Blockbuster stores are selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, Wii's, and DS's. They do not sell PSP's. However, they have also started selling other electronics including Blu-ray players, portable DVD players, and digital picture frames. As a result of not selling used hardware, however, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, most regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Featured Preorders
Most Blockbuster stores (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are featuring several games for preorder. $5 is required for a deposit. There are a few others in addition to what is listed below:

Multiplatform
Beatles Rock Band
Madden 10

:360:

:ps3:

:wii:

:ds:

They usually get these featured games in on release day like any other game retailer (though note - as of late they have been very bad about this and have gotten many games several days late!). Note that you can preorder just about any other game as the system will allow them to preorder anything they have listed (yes, even at regular stores). I have preordered Mario Super Sluggers and Dragon Quest IV myself even though they are not "featured" as preorders. However, if it is not a featured preorder they may or may not get it in, and it may arrive as late as Friday of the release week (postscript - Mario Super Sluggers did indeed arrive on Friday when every other store had it Tues. or Weds. and Dragon Quest IV never arrived).

Of course you can cancel a preorder at any time and get your deposit back or switch it to another game, even after the game comes out. So don't worry about preordering something they might not get - you can always switch it to something else. However, since I've always used credit for purchasing things at Blockbuster I'm not sure how they would handle a cancellation of a cash deposit. They may simply issue a credit to your account so beware of that if placing a cash deposit on a preorder.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values
Trade-in price quotes will now be maintained by CAG Friend of Sonic in the THIRD post of this thread. The second post will continue to highlight specific games used to transfer credit from Blockbuster to Gamestop and vice versa.

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Just came back from BB in Columbia 4:45PM EST. I brought a bunch of games up to the register and asked the guy to price check them. All came up at normal price, so I asked himto hit total, but he was hesitant because of the whole credi thing.

He asked the manager and she had to call the main office. Main office told her that the register would not automatically show the sale and that she had to enter a code to get B1G1 50% off. I put my copies of GOW 3 and Uncharted 2 back on the shelf and left. :(

You think maybe the system is still messed up so they are using a code in order to prevent people from getting 50% off on everything? Maybe I should go to another store and try to get the guy to hit total.
next time i wouldn't get the main office on the phone honestly...

and i love how everyone is saying "no go here" yet they won't tell us where HERE is...c'mon people...help yo local CAGfolk out!

I tried picking up some games at a central VA location today and the manager was like oh we have some promo going blah blah and I was like noooooo, I just wanted him to scan the games then total everything up. I dunno if scanning some promo messed it up or what (he DID scan a coupon code on the side of the monitor) but the stuff didn't come up 50% off. I'm pretty sure it was totaled all the way, because the credit card thing was asking me to swipe but I'm not positive.

Oh well. Congrats on some of the great deals you guys got though :)
Arg, well, crap - maybe that's it. My first transaction had 2 and my second 6. On the second one it only discounted the 3 cheapest ones.

This is so damn confusing - but I'm heading out to another store now and we'll see what happens. I'll make sure to keep it at 4 and under.
Sorry about my original post referring to games in "odd dominations..."

I had no choice. It was the dude behind the registers idea.
There's a blockbuster in brookfield still?

I thought they were all closed? was it the one on hwy 100?
The one on Capital & Calhoun is still open. There wasn't a lot left and nobody there knew about the 50% off each game. She hit total and brought both of them down to 50%.

Wow, I missed out on a lot today. I was so busy at work that i didn't even get to check CAG once. My district is clueless cuz no one knows anything about this it wasn't even a topic of discussion on our weekly conference call.

I called a couple other store managers and they thought it started next week for memorial day. There must not be one CAG in the area since I didn't hear a peep about this all day long.

Thinking about going to highway 100 and greenfield. I dunno. I would hit up both southridge ones too but there's some stuff going on today. I might not be able to resist the glitch.

i just came back from a BB and I was so close to getting AC2 for $15 but they found out about the whole deal. It was originally supposed to be buy 1 get 1 1/2 off but everything became half off. So just for anyone else living in Nebraska don't try this they know about it now

I got Kingdom Hearts DS and Beatles: RB PS3 for half off. Both titles are regularly $14.99.

Then I tried GoW 3 and Battlefield 2 together; these did not work. Weird sale. Oh well.

Well, my nearest store in Sumter, SC only had the BOGO1/2.
I went in at lunch and found a couple games I wanted, asked the guy about any deals (this was only after seeing a couple posts on here, not knowing whether it was BOGO1/2 or all half off or a glitch or what). He put in a call to another store and told me that it was Buy One Get One for 50% and I ended up leaving. A couple days ago I would have been all over this deal, but I need to buy a dryer and I had to send the wife's sister some money.
I would've bit if I could have gotten both games I wanted for half off though.
Congrats to people who got in while the deal was good.

Wow, so the 'total' thing is definitely what activates this deal.. I figured I'd try my luck after work and just buy GOW3 and Beatles RB regardless of the promo being applied, since I didn't want to trigger a reverse sale etc etc, and she's scanning barcodes and it takes off $7.50 from Beatles RB, so I quietly hang my head, until an extra $20 comes reeling off when she hits total. WOO! :)

At this point, the manager (who I'd asked to check prices earlier in the day) was literally like "whaaaat?" and comes over, assured she'd done everything correctly, and said verbatim, "well, it's supposed to be B1G50%, but if that's what in the system from corporate, that's not our problem, it's theirs.." as I aloofly ask him if I can go check if there's anything else I want. GOW3, RB:B, Bioshock 2, KZ2, and UC2 later, all half off to his amazement.. SO. AWESOME.

Checked out successfully at 5:15 PM EST in NJ. :)

While this is a great deal, I just can't think of anything that wasn't a part of the previous B1G1 that is worth a ten minute drive. Aside from ME2, Bayonetta, or Batman, is there really a "steal" to be had?

I'm barely making a dent into the games I got in last months sale as it is, haha!

For the guys that got in on this, I'll start the running flip list:

-> $20 BB GC - Beatles Rock Band (PS3/wii), Star Ocean (360)?!, Toy Story (wii)

I don't think it's happening in Hawaii. I just called one and the lady said there's no sale going on and would check with her manager. She came back and still said no.

I did two separate transactions at one store today. The second transaction only gave me half off the cheaper game. The people at the store were as confused as I was, but it seems like this deal is only good one time per store. How crazy is that?

Just got back from my local BVB and picked up,

Uncharted 2 $19.98
Mario Super Sluggers $4.98 (Flipping to Gazelle for $20)
Punch-Out $12.49
Infamous $9.98

I did this at 3:05pm Mountain. I went to another store down the way and two games rang up for the B1G1 50% off though, so definitely YMMV.

I agree. I am the same way. Half the stuff I bought was part of the last sale I just didn't buy. Honestly I think I bought 2 games that were more than $14.99

I went to 10 stores all pretty close and kept thinking that most of the stuff that you would buy $30 and up even with 50% off wasn't that great of a deal.

Even Batman though you can get for $17.99 through Gamefly so that even isn't that big of a deal.

Assassin's Creed II for $7.50 is a good deal, in my opinion.
Assassin's Creed II for $7.50 is a good deal, in my opinion.
It is? I did not know that. I would have happily gotten that if I had seen that. Did it just get marked down to $14.99?
It is? I did not know that. I would have happily gotten that if I had seen that. Did it just get marked down to $14.99?
It either got marked down very recently or is a major YMMV. At my store there are 3-4 copies stickered $14.99. However, it rang up as $29.99 and the manager had to override the price. So, either a very recent drop not yet in the system, or a stickering error.

The funny thing is that after he hit "total", the computer took off an additional $15 (half of the $29.99 price). So the game actually came out free. If I had had a stack of games, it's likely that no one would have noticed this. But I only had that and Brutal Legend, and when the total for both came to $5, he definitely raised his eyebrows.

Fortunately, he was pretty smart and with it, as Blockbuster managers go, and knew to add $7.50 to the price. Lucky thing, because the other clerk that was there, who looks like Eugene Mirman's portlier, less attractive brother (which is saying something), was a total remedial math case and had no idea what to do at all.

I got denied just a few minutes ago. Rang up with only the 50% discount on the 2nd game, no discount on the first game. Metro Detroit area.

Just got back from another blockbuster and it was about 6:24 est and I got Mass Effect 2 for 21.33
Not a big deal considering gamefly has it for 17.99, but pretty sure they are sold out now.

They didn't still know what was going on, took some hussling but I got my price.

what kind of hustling?

I went to about five stores and only 2 were able to work (from 5:30 - 6:45). I got very lucky with the games I was able to get (all with original case and manual)

PS3:
God of War III - $20
Demon Souls - $20
Uncharted 2 - $20
Darksiders - $15

Wii:
Tatsunoko vs Capcom - $15
No More Heroes 2 - $12.5

Success at a second store at around 3:30 Pacific. They had no idea about the sale and at first I was disappointed because the manager was there and I figured no way she'd let it slide.

Well, not only did she let it slide, but even after recognizing that it was probably a "glitch" (her word) after looking at the paperwork that said buy 1 get 1 50% off, she told her employees to grab what they could before it got fixed ;). Needless to say she let me buy what I wanted too. I probably should have gotten more but I pretty much stuck to unique titles. Now I have all these PS3 games I would have waited a long time on otherwise: Bayonetta, God of War III, Dante's Inferno, etc...

On the way out she said to "tell your friends!". I guess she's actually a smart manager and realizes that this means tons of sales whereas a Buy 1 Get 1 50% off wouldn't mean quite so many. For example, I bought about 14 games and would have only gotten 2 of those with B1G1 50% off.

In between my purchases she got out a huge bin and a 50% off sign and set it up by the front door wth piles of games!

Contrast this to my local store where the low-level clerk overrode the sale and made it less of a discount which resulted in me removing 4 games from the purchase ;).

Nice find on Demon Souls.
I don't think it's happening in Hawaii. I just called one and the lady said there's no sale going on and would check with her manager. She came back and still said no.
Our prices get updated late and manually, or not at all. That's why you'll see different prices on the same games at different stores and the computers might still also show different prices. But....I would've tried to buy and see what the register says. One B1G1 a while back started on a Tuesday and worked in the computers, but they thought it started on Thur and didn't put out the flyers until 2 days later.

Damn I didn't get the check today, and go figure it would be an awesome glitch. Hopefully its still working tomorrow when I have the chance to go out, but I wouldn't be holding my breath. If only I saw this earlier.

Thanks. I'll try later. I'm babysitting right now.

Does anyone know when the day shift at BVB leaves and the night shift comes in? I don't want to go back in the same store with the same crazy bitch if possible.

5-6 pm.

No dice at North Huntingdon, PA. Guy at the counter reached for a sheet of paper and did an override. Luckily I thought far enough ahead to hide my debit cards deep in my wallet, so I faked I must have left my card at Target next door and left.

I was picking up Batman: AA and Assassins Creed 2.

Man they must of fixed it since then, just got back from there and no go :( I think, you posted about the one in Beckett earlier right?

Either way, the BB in Logan Township NJ is a no go, sucks casue I was looking for a good price on ME2

I live in a smaller town and stopped at the local store a little after 1 PST. Had success with 2 so grabbed another 2 after when the confused clerk thought it was a great deal too but while I was grabbing my other games, I heard her calling someone. I the other stuff I needed to do and went to a store that was like 20 minutes from my house around 4:30 PST. The girl rang the two games, then started saying something to her manager. She came over, scanned a barcode and with that I only got the one half off. The manager was shouting "did it work?" to the other employee when I left. Sadly no go on a second deal but I can't complain with what I got.
Thank you so f'n much CAG!
:ps3:
God of War III (complete) - $20

:360:
Darksiders (complete, disc flawless) - $15
I just comeback from my local BB (Chicago), and no go on glitch (aaaaaahhhhhh). Just my luck.

Went to one store in Indianapolis, bought 2 $14.99 games. The clerk scanned a coupon before ringing them up and told me it was B1G1 50%. The screen took half off one of the games, then when she hit 'total' it changed it to 50% of both. She said it wasn't right and added $7.50 back manually. Went to another store and glitch was still working (as of 7:30 ET).

I got a pretty good haul today. Big thanks to whoever first mentioned the deal.

:ps3:Bayonetta - $15
:ps3:The Beatles: Rock Band - $7.50
:ps3:Borderlands - $15
:ps3:Darksiders - $15
:ps3:God of War III (x2) - $20
:360:Left 4 Dead 2 - $15
:wii:New Super Mario Bros. (x2) - $20

went to lake orion MI store got ME2 and borderlands for $35 + tax went to get a few mroe games and the guy said that it is supposed to be B1G1 50% and couldnt do the same deal...went down the road and tried 4 games they it total and no discount at all this was at 625pm EST and 704pm respectively

I had a chance to hit up two stores. Neither one had any signs advertising the sale.

I found GOW Collection and G.I. Joe, both for PS3, at the first store. When they rang it up and hit total, nothing happened. No Discounts at all.

So I asked if there was a sale today since my buddy (thank you CAG:D) told me his local store was running a sale. The manager thought it started next week. He checked some papers then adjusted the price to B1G1 50%. Not too bad, but not as good as half off.

Manager was definitely a cool dude. Too bad the system wasn't prompting any type a sale.

The manager also mentioned that he was expecting to get more titles, later in the week. I may have to go back just to see what they get.

I did also pick up a Donky Kong figure for $10. It's about a foot tall and was priced at 25 last month.

I couldn't find anything worthwhile at the second store, so I didn't even bother trying. The $30 and above titles are just not as appealing to me. My backlog mandates a better price.

In NoVa,5 stores, only 1 worked, 1st one. It was the first and only sale of the day I was told. around 6:30 pm EST

Went to two in the morning and the glitch worked (Los Angeles area). Just came back from two different ones about an hour ago. No go on those, only 50% off the second game. It looks like they fixed it... though I didn't try the ones i went to in the morning.
