Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

HB, you are awesome.

That would be me that heard about the sale going til 9/12. I'm surprised. I didn't think my store would be on top of things as much as they are. The guy told me ahead of time about the new rental plans, the B1G1, he told me when it ended and when they're getting transfers. Bravo.

That's weird. The store I went to today kept telling me that it was over yesterday even though they still had the signs up. The girl even called her manager and he confirmed that it was over. I was there forever. I decided to trade in my copy of Hunter from Best Buy for the $22 credit. It took her 3 phone calls to be able to set up my account. Then when that finally went through she had to manually credit me the free games. The first time she took off the 2 $6.99 games instead of one $6.99 game and one $9.99 game. When I mentioned this she said "It's not like you're paying for them." The lady was really nice but was struggling. I was in there for over an hour. Basically to make a long story short she really screwed up and this is what I left with:

1 copy of NBA Jam
1 copy of Singularity ps3
1 Copy of Wii Music
1 copy of Folklore
and $19 blockbuster credit!

Then I took Singularity and Wii Music back to best buy and got another $23 credit. It took a long time but wound up working out for me.

Went to the Blockbuster on Burnet and Koenig here today, total bust. Their selection of pre-owned games is very small and mixed in with rentals, mostly overpriced. Was hoping to get some cheap Wii finds but the only thing that qualified for the BOGO deal was Goldeneye 007 for $15, nothing to pair it with.

Awesome news!

Great day for me! I picked up Dead Space 2 PS3 (LE) (Keeping) and Splatterhouse X360 (traded for $12.60). The PS3 copy was ringing up $19.99. Then I went to another location and picked up TFU2 PS3 (traded $16.80) and Tron Evolution (traded $12.60) along with two copies of Kane and Lynch X360 $9.99 (traded $22.40). Then yesterday I traded in TFU2 X360 ($16.80) and my coworker bought NBA Jam for $18.20. So total of $81.20 in credit and $18.20 in cash. Not bad at all! Thanks CAG.
So is NBA Jam $15 or $20?
It's $9.99. I don't know if this was posted but you can buy a game that's $19.99 and get $14.99 game for free. It might be your YMMV though. The first cashier allowed it for me, but I didn't check at the other store.

WTF, I thought that one closed over a year ago. I see it on their website whenever I look for stores, but when I'm in that area I don't see it. Did it move from where it used to be?

It turns out the closest bbv to me (parmer and mopac) closed on 7/13. Can't believe I didn't know about that. I feel like I was there for the last big sale they had. What was that, July 4th?

I ended up picking up a complete SWTFU2 and an incomplete Resident Evil 5 for 15 bucks. I already have the RE5, but it's for a friend to play co-op with. Also saw Splatterhouse and a couple of other games I wanted. I wish Metro 2033 would drop to 15.

I have Blockbuster Online and they have a feature where you can keep a movie or game that you get throught the mail for a fee. I'd never seen it before and wondered what the prices ran. Yesterday they shipped New Vegas for PS3 and I have the option to keep it if I want...

for $41.24.

Went to a bunch of stores in Oaklad and Sacramento, but didn't see any decent games. I did pick up a DA2 guide for $7 new. Now to actually get the game...
$8 for regular. We don't take the limited or collectors edition.

It's only good at the location u purchase the pass at.
Thanks hawaiiboy, good to know.

Saw Wii Block Party new on clearance at Target for $3.xx. Just thought I'd mention it cause I just saw it about 5 min ago.

Went in again today and picked up:

:360: Star Wars: Force Unleashed II $14.99
:ds: Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded FREE

Overall a pretty good sale, especially since my Blockbuster usually has a terrible selection of games.
I thought Bulletstorm PS3 was $19.99
It was labeled wrong but they gave it to me any ways without even saying anything
I thought Bulletstorm PS3 was $19.99
That's what I thought. I stopped into another store as well. Picked up another copy TFU2, and TRON. This last store barely had anything worth keeping/trading in. Traded it in for $30 so now I'm done flipping/buying games for a while.
Search a couple pages back he posted the drops and yes they will be effective Monday for the last day of the sale.
Sale goes to the 12th. HB confirmed it earlier today.
$8 for regular. We don't take the limited or collectors edition.
Thanks again Hawaiiboy. I should have known when I saw it on sale for $24.99 used at BBV today. I ended up trading the "disc only" halo reach at Best Buy for $22.XX and then immediately bought a brand new Halo Reach Legendary Edition for $39.99 (ymmv manager special because it required a manager override). So I guess $18 for that statue and little collectables ain't too bad in the end.

Hopefully I can sell that flaming skull code and get a little more $$$ back.

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet but the manager at a BBV tonight said all the stores received clarification over the weekend that the sale is actually buy any priced game, get any $14.99 or less game free. Of course, most of us already knew it thanks to HB but for those who got turned down at certain stores earlier in the week, it might be time to try again.

My blockbuster has a bunch of epic mickeys. I will yet two of them, flip them to bestbuy getting the extra 40% credit and use my credit to get a amazon card. It's like I'm trading the games in at amazon lol

This might be a noob question but how do you flip the BB credit for an Amazon card?

Left right Left Right Up Down A + B

That question is really best for the BB trade in thread but since it already pops up there 1-2 times a minute... you can buy kindle gift cards with BB gift cards (and yes, kindle gift cards are good for anything on Amazon).

Really hoping the price drops have been taken care of when I go in on Monday morning. A couple of solid flips in that selection, hopefully only need to make one stop as well.

"left right left right up down a+b" hahaha best post ever.

Just go to best buy and have them grab it for you next time. But lets get back to talking blockbuster please. Love this thread and the updates always make me happy, got me a huge backlog and best buy credit cuz of it. Thank you HB!
so is Splatterhouse $14.99? I saw it marked for $19.99 on PS3 at one store? Would love to get that game for the right price.
PS3 price is at $19.99, won't drop til monday. HawaiiBoy mentioned that in his post.

I have a Blockbuster in town, and every time I walk in the only games I've ever seen for sale are ancient PS2/GC/Xbox games in a rack next to the used DVDS. For people being able to buy new games, is this where you find them? Or can you actually buy games that are being actively rented out? Sorry for being a noob to this thread, but I am curious about everyone's experiences.

Mostof the BBV'S i've been to have a clearance table or bin at the front of the store, and then they have so more games on end caps and on racks right by the rental games, but they have price stickers on the front of them.Hope this helps.

First of all, no one here is buying new games from Blockbuster. If by "new" you mean factory-sealed. If by "new" you mean current-gen used games, then, yes, we're all buying lots of those ;).

But your store smells like a franchise store. I remember a few years back I went into a franchise Blockbuster and they had a rack full of N64 games! They should have gotten rid of PS2/GC/XBox games a long time ago if they were a corporate store. Weren't those all sold off to a distributor or something a while back? Or if not, they would have at least been sold during the 7 or 8 B1G1 sales since then. I do see an occasional PS2 game since they have had some of the newer releases for that system more recently. But I haven't seen a single GC or Xbox game in well over a year at any BBVs. At this point it is even hard to find PSP games any more.

I went to store today and was told they won't take trade-ins for Brink, Hunted Demon's Forge, and Child of Eden. They also said BBV only gave a couple bucks for the trade-ins and suggest me go to Gamestop. This sounds a little bit weird. HB, could you or anyone can confirm the trade-in value for these three games? Thanks.

Did they deny those three games specifically or all game trades in general?
Did they deny those three games specifically or all game trades in general?
First, they were not sure if they can still do the trade-ins. After talking to someone over the phone, they asked me which game I would like to trade in. I mentioned Brink, Hunted, and Child of Eden. They denied all of them. I am not sure if they will deny others.

The other day I tried to trade in at a far away store I've never traded at before. They lied right to my face and told me that since Dish Network bought blockbuster, they're not allowed to do trade ins anymore. This was after he scanned my "Hunted" game and saw the $22 TIV (he didn't tell me the TIV). They also called someone on the phone before they lied to me.

They said that in about a month they'll start having and accepting Blockbuster gift cards again and maybe at that same time they might start doing trade ins again.

I don't like being lied to. I had already picked out $66.99 + tax worth of games to buy, but put them back on the shelf. I don't need a bigger backlog anyway. They hadn't accepted the last price update at that store either because a game rang up higher than reported on CAG.

I ended up trading in Hunted at the BBV thats 1/2 a mile from my house, so it all worked out.

Also, they also wouldn't sell me the Lego Batman strategy guide for $5 because it rang up $19.99. I bet someone will buy the beat up Lego Batman guide for $19.99 before they trash the guides in a couple weeks. :p

In all fairness, not all BBV do trade in. It says "participating blockbusters" only. And for participating stores, you gotta be lucky to find someone that knows how to do it. I think Hawaiiboy can confirm this.

all corporate stores do trade-ins (at least all in my district) its just hard to find employees that know how to do them since its been a long time since bbv has been a viable place to trade games.

I tried trading in Child of Eden but it wasn't in their system.

thats a crock as i just looked it up the other day.

thats also a crock. in case anyone missed it. starting 9/12 anyone with a giftcard can go into a store and "redeem" that giftcard for 5 free movie/game rentals. it doesnt matter what value is left on the giftcard as each one you turn in will get you 5 free rentals. another option if you dont have a store near you or just dont want 5 free rentals is to redeem it for 2 months of bbv online service 2 out at a time. if you want the online option you need to contact customer care (1-800-406-6843) and they will walk you thru the process. i believe you have to mail the giftcards somewhere and then they will send you the 2 month free offer.

I really doubt they would do this but I have to ask. If I have an old gift card 5-6 years old with no balance left could I redeem that?

My two nearby stores won't do trade-ins. You already heard my story at my closest store. They recommended me to go to Gamestop. I called the second store and they recommended me to FYE and would like to give FYE's number. Finally the third store can do trade-ins but the manger told me there was no B1G1 sale. After she checked a computer, she admitted there is a sale. But the guy said my two games are not qualified since it mislabelled at $19.99 and $24.99. When checking out, the manager and the guy are 100% sure the promotion should be running automatically even after I suggested scanning a barcode. After tons of failures, she finally manually adjusted the price.

!!! Say what? I managed to pick up a Splatterhouse PS3 for $14.99.
