Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

I'm so pissed right now. I sent an email to customer support complaining about the fact that my BB Online 9$ coupon usable for a 5 day rental is now only valid for a stinking single days rental. I got the FU generic BS response. Looks like I'm moving to a rent as you need it play. FU BB.

2nd round of yahoo's gave me the same crappy response, we're great and you should be happy we allow you to be our customer.

Looks like the 3 movies I was ready to return tonight is the final chapter for me.
My "unfriendly employee" story
I returned to the same BBV that I bought multiple games a few days ago and grabbed
iconxbox360.gif
NBA Jam $9.99 and
iconwii.gif
Megamind $9.99 (filler) and headed to the counter. The employee says that this wouldn't be a B1G1 free....I thought he was joking so I said "very funny". Then he said that he was serious. I asked why and he said that one of the games has to be $14.99. I told him that I bought $9.99 sets before from this exact store, I told him that all he had to do is scan the games and the barcode. He said "Even if it works, it's wrong". He told me that the other employee did it wrong. I told him to read the signage and he says that Corporate told him not follow the signage. He restated "1 game must be exactly $14.99 and the other has to be under $14.99". UNBELIEVABLE!!! I asked for the manager and he said he was in charge until the manager comes in 45 minutes later. I asked him to verify with another store. He says ok, but still insisted he was right. After a few minutes, he says "ha, see" and hands me the phone...I told the person on the phone my situation (buying 2 $9.99 games and 1 should be free). They said that I was right so I handed the phone back to the employee. A few minutes later, he goes to the back for the games and hands them to another employees and asks them to ring me up.
He didn't say sorry, just hid in the office.
That's so stupid. I did this for a few games and never ran into any problems. Some people just have to be right...I would email corporate or so something.
Thanks,i don't remember seeing that game at all, weird.
It's a neat little game. Knowing how the game plays, If you have a kinect, I would say at $20 it's a solid deal. Wouldn't pay above $25. $10 was insanely good for this game. Although I would just wait for a couple months, since it will be bundled with te kinect this holiday season. Prices will drop fast then.

I would say to definitely rent this game though as it was a rather fun side game.
just out of curiosity (trying to decide if I should make a last BBV run), is Bulletstorm supposed to be $14.99 or $19.99 on 360?
$19.99 at my stores. They are pretty good at making sure prices are correct also.
$19.99 at my stores. They are pretty good at making sure prices are correct also.
ya, my girlfriend just verified this for me. i asked her to pick it up with splatterhouse or swfuII, but she said the manager told her the BOGO was over and even called another store to verify. Fyi, this is the same idiot manager that argued with me over the price drops and later got schooled when I had another manager call him up.

I think all of you folks having problems with retard employees should record a video of them denying you with the explanation why with ur phone and tell them you are including it in your email to the corporate office. And that youre posting it on youtube. Seriously dont let these fuckers get away with being asses just because theyre so stupid.
Picked up Epic Yarn, Splatterhouse, Mario Hoops 3x3, and Epic Mickey all complete and in great shape.
is mario 3x3 fun? Never seen it before....(is that $15 too)

Except that'll drive him up the wall even more since stores are private property and you're not allowed to record in there without permission. AKA you'll probably have to leave and/or banned. Say what you want to corporate at that point, but they'll agree with him.

Is Google Product Search accurate? They show the updated prices but I just called one BBV and they have the $19.99 for Epic Mickey and Kirby's Epic Yarn.

Yeah i had my store check on Epic Mickey and PS3 Splatterhouse, but both were still $19.99,was really hoping they'd be $14.99.

Google shopping has the correct updated pricing but 2 things could be happening at your stores. 1) They haven't restickered and just told you what the sticker said. 2) They still haven't accepted the price changes for this week which needs to be done manually by the manager (so they really do ring up $19.99).

At this point there is no excuse for them not updating the prices. At 3 of the 4 stores I went to yesterday they had done the price updates and had even restickered the games by early afternoon. The one that didn't was my local store and I was in there around noon (so only 2 hours since they had opened). The manager did it once I asked about it. Considering that Labor Day was a big sale day (all the stores had a lot of traffic) it was an important day for them to reprice and update in general.

But seriously, any store that has not updated by this point has a completely inept manager.

FWIW, the selection at my local store which had been nearly untouched (except by me) all last week, got demolished during the holiday weekend. They sold half the remaining used games from Friday through Sunday.

I haven't kept up with this as much so I'm wondering.. is this sale still active? Also what are the odds that BBVs restocked since last week?

OK. Even though I keep telling myself I'm not going to buy anymore games, I keep buying MORE games.

I picked up the following today:

:ps3:Homefront-$29.99
:ps3:Transformers: War For Cybertron-$14.99

I was tempted to pick up Homefront from Amazon's Warehouse Deals, but it cost almost as much there for just that game as it does at BBV. So I figured for the same amount I could get two games for the price of one.;)

It appears it is still on. The chances for a "restock" are slim to none. They don't tend to send games to stores just for these sales. 95% of the time it is just stuff they've converted from rental to used at that particular store. That happens weekly so there could be a few more games out but it won't be a huge amount. Occasionally they will send stock from a store that closed to another store for sale and that appears like a "restock" but that is not too common either. At least around here, anyway, I have never seen any store sell anything besides what they used to have as rentals.
The sale is still going, picked up Duke Nukem Forever for $50 and got Red Dead Redemption for free. Used, of course.
How did THAT work? Red dead isn't 15, is it?

walked into a blockbuster today and proceeded to purchase a 4 games. the first 2 games had a sticker price of 9.99 each, however when the sales associate rang it up it came out to be 19.99. So he asked the manager for assistance and she said he needed to scan the other bar code which is on the game sleeve which would ring up 19.99. So he did at it worked. The other 2 games I had were splatterhouse ps3 and the fight lights out which were both stickered 19.99. I had asked for a price check earlier and he said it had not dropped, but when I heard what the manager had mentioned about scanning the other bar code I asked if she could scan the other bar code to check the price. She ended up just doing what the other guy did and told me I could get pay for a 19.99 game and get the 9.99 game free. I smiled and declined thinking this women must think I am an idiot. Long story short I ended up at another blockbuster and got splatterhouse on 360 for 9.99, so it's all good.

cliff notes
-guy scans back of game case and it rang up 19.99. when guy scans the disc sleeves with blockbusters bar code it rang up 9.99
-manager tries to pull a fast one, so I just go on my merry way
-found game at another location for cheaper

do not know if it has been addressed or is an issue but would scanning the other bar code show an updated price as in my case for other games or would they be able to tell from the computer regardless?

U bought duke for $50 used?
U bought duke for $50 used?
I was thinking the same thing. I can't imagine a $14.99 or less game at BBV that would make up for that?

Wow.. bummer. Seems like they're taunting me by having this sale go on for over 2 weeks with absolutely nothing for me to buy. I'll stop in after my class tomorrow and check it out but it's probably not going to end up well. I think those guys are getting tired of seeing me walk in there and walk out empty handed lol.

I just had a very strange experience at a blockbuster. Sorry about this, but I've just got to vent!

I went in to one that I'd seen both Epic Mickey and Kirby's Canvas Curse last week and they still had them! Even better, they were marked down to $14.99, so I figured that the store was on the ball. I grabbed them, along with 360 Blur (marked $14.99), DS Kingdom Hearts: RE Coded (marked $19.99, but I remembered it being less), 360 Medal of Honor and 360 Enslaved (both $9.99). I was really excited when I walked up to the counter and asked them to price check Kingdom Hearts, which came up at $14.99.

Things went downhill from there.

First off, they tried to make the two $9.99 games my free games. =( I haven't had to deal with that crap for a long time. I tried to explain that wasn't how it had worked in the past, but they didn't really come around until I just told them that I'd just buy the games in two transactions then...

That out of the way, they scanned the two $9.99 games, which went fine, then scanned Blur and Kingdom Hearts... Blur rang up at $19.99. After getting through the confusion of them thinking that the $19.99 game was Kingdom Hearts (as marked), they just gave me a credit of $5 to take Blur down to $14.99.

So far so good, other than minor annoyances. Then game Kirby and Epic Mickey, both of which rang up at $19.99! =( I had to point this out, since the cashier either hadn't noticed, or hoped that I hadn't.

At this point everyone was getting annoyed, me, the cashiers and the people behind me. =( I told them that maybe they should check to see if there were any price updates for the computer, but the other cashier tried to tell me that the computer was updated and $19.99 was the new price and that the $14.99 that was marked was an older price! After telling them that I was pretty sure that $19.99 was what they were marked at last week and that $14.99 was the new price. The other cashier agreed that I should get them B1G1 at $14.99. So my cashier then gives me a $19 credit... I told them that things still weren't ok. The other cashier then asked if mine had taken off the $5 to make the first game $14.99 and he agreed to do it. Even though I was paying an extra $0.99 I was so sick of being there (and now late getting home!) that I just paid it and left. I'm pretty sure that the cashier thought I was trying to pull something funny since he just handed me the games and didn't say anything.

What looked like it was going to be a nice and simple trip to Blockbuster turned in to a massive pain the the butt! =(

I heard that game wasnt that good. A big let down from the classic. I dont even consider $20 a deal for this game. Now $10, I may bit....

Scanning the original bar code on the game is never the right thing for them to do. What happens in that case is they are charging you the NEW game price (as opposed to used). It is the little white strip bar code that is their previously played UPC and that's what needs to be scanned. It has been a LONG time since I've had a BBV cashier scan the regular game barcode. They all seem to be aware that they need to scan the white strip (which is sometimes on the game case and sometimes on the sleeve they keep the actual game discs in).

To answer your question, the white strip would not have helped you if they have not accepted the new price drops in the computer. That is the one that was $19.99 last week and is supposed to be $14.99 this week (for Epic Mickey, Kirby, Splatterhouse PS3, and a few others).

These new price adjusting policies sound like they're making this deal a pretty awful experience for most people. I'm super bummed this time around just because everything had already been picked clean (either that or they didn't have a great selection to begin with). This is probably the first B1G1 that I've actively gone and searched for games where I didn't get a single one.

So does anyone have any proof that the BOGO is still going on. I'm gonna go tomorrow to get my bulletstorm and splatterhouse, and I wanna make sure I can prove the manager is a moron, because he has been a total douche EVERY TIME i have come in for this sale, and every time I respectfully accept what he says, only to come back later to deal with his more competent employees. But now I am just sick of his shit, and wanna stick it to him.

Not really sure what would any of us do to provide as proof, but I did go today and purchase some games. And they rung up as BoGo as expected (both 14.99).
You will always run into incompetent personnel, here and there. It's just what happens in retail. With a company barely staying out of complete bankruptcy, and liquidation, I'm surprised there aren't even more horror stories.

Most of these employees know the end will come eventually, so, pleasing some customers who come *only* to take part in a game sale is probably not high on their list of priorities.

BBV people are going to know my name soon if I keep going by. However, if I keep buying games that trade-in for more than I paid for them, I'm going to keep lighting up this B1G1 sale. Found a place that buys Kirby's Epic Yarn for $12. Score!

Bought Dead Space 2 for $20 for myself and got Grid for free, which I promptly sold for $8.40. Considering buying some others to trade toward MW3 and Batman.

actually, well i can't confirm this as im not the primary source, but a manager told me that BBV is fine now and that they got bought by Dish Network and that BBV now handles Dish's On-Demand stuff.

HawaiiBoy,

Are people allowed to buy MS Points cards with store credit? It happened again tonight that it would not let the clerk ring it up and she then pretended to call a manager and said that Microsoft won't let them sell the cards with store credit.
