Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

Brink for PS3 and 360 still trading in for $17.

I've got some coming to me from Amazon. $9.99 for both, or $7.49 from Warehouse Deals if they're still in stock.

OK. I'm pretty sure that even before Dish took over BBV, the system wouldn't allow you to buy time cards/gift cards/etc with game trade credit. But I'm not 100% sure.

Only reason I'm kinda asking is that my closest BBV had ZIP I'd want after I traded in a copy of Hunted The Demon's Forge for PS3 last week, so I tried to buy a $20 PSN card with the $19 in credit from that and $1 in cash.

Just sold one, Duke Nukem Forever was also $17.

Also Crysis 2 was $12 I didn't sell it.

I feel your pain. There seems to be only 2 bbv in Manhattan. It sucks as the one near where I live at has had a not so great used game section since the b1g1 free they did around may or June this year

hmm. not that i was aware of. the last i heard that they were supposed to be OPENING some smaller stores and store within stores this month. also all stores are remodeling between now and beginning of next yr. we are getting dish service with a couple of flat screens and some couches. instead of giving anyone a raise thats where all the money is going.

mario figurines are $4.99 but only the old ones. we got some new mario stuff in which is reg price.
TIV for Borderlads ps3 standard edition and LA Noire? Thanks anyone.
You can just call them and ask. It's not like GameStop.
PS3 Borderlands (original) $4
PS3 L. A. Noire $12
PS3 Hunted: Demon's Forge $19

Which ones are the old ones?
I want the framed artworks to clearance again, all the new art is way cooler than the last batch.

If the 360 tiv is the same I might have to unload my copy to start building credit for the next bogo.

Went to one Blockbuster today to trade in a game. The lady at the counter scanned it, said that it had a good value and then proceeded to tell me that Blockbuster stores don't take trade-ins anymore. I then told her I just traded in a game to another store earlier (I had two copies of the same game but the one store told me that I could only trade in one copy per account per store so I brought it to another store) and then she just gave me a blank look. It seems like only one Blockbuster store in my area is actually competent. I ended up just trading it in to Amazon instead.

Some stores do not do trade-in.

Gamestop gives me quotes over the phone, if they didn't, I just called another.

Now if one refused, I would just say, I'll remember that when I want to preorder something or when my edge card expires. Asking for the DM works wonders too. :)
Some stores do not do trade-in.
I asked an employee about it at another store and they told me that the store that said they don't do trade-ins is a store that does indeed take them. They said that they rarely get trade-ins though so they employees often don't know how to handle the transaction. I think the lady working there just didn't know how to do them (plus she told me that no Blockbuster stores take trade-ins at all which is definitely not true...)

From what I heard (forget if HB confirmed) is that since DTV took over all stores, even franchises, take game trade ins.

Since they rarely get them most regular employees are clueless and just say they don't take them. Most managers seem to
Be in the know though, so much better than BBY.

I was denied a trade by a manager today. He said straight up that they/he didn't do trades anymore. He knows my deal though and probably suspects he will be on the losing side of transactions with me. He's seen me at the 2 different stores he's managed and at too many b1g1 sales. I've also had to inform him about sales and accepting price changes, so that doesn't help my case lol.

I got this at my local BBV too, I wasn't too worried about it (I was told during the last buy B1G1) but I hope that changes during the next sale.

Some of my local bbv employes didn't seem to know about the trade ins. I'll talk to the day time manager later today
best time to check are monday mornings as all store managers work unless they're on vacation and they should know if they do trades or not. almost no store managers work on sunday so ur more likely to get an uninformed shift lead who might not know. in my area even yrs ago before store closings all stores took trades and i havent heard of one not taking trades. some may have limitations due to pawn laws.

Yeah, I know there are some stores in different cities that do not do trade-ins that typically do. Like in the greater Phoenix area the Scottsdale & Peoria Best Buy's do not do trade-ins but the rest of the cities do. The same for Scottsdale Blockbuster's. The pawn laws are tougher in these areas and even companies like GameStop that do it everywhere have greater regulations like fingerprinting, etc.

hawaiiboy what are the tiv for Red Faction Armageddon, and Duke Nukem Forever just finished them.

Also what is the price for COD:black ops

Thanks

I'll second the request on Red Faction Armageddon (PS3 for me).

Just trade both, Duke is $17 and Red Faction is $19 (ps3 and 360)

Thanks kouleefoh for the reply

Awesome, thanks... I'm not sure what I'd do with $19 in credit at my local Blockbuster, but that beats anything else I can do with it at this point. It has been a long time since I've traded at Blockbuster (at least a year now) so hopefully they'll know what I'm talking about. The entire store has turned over since then (none of the same employees from 1 year ago including the manager).

I assume I could pay for the $7.50 in-store pass using that credit, right? That might just be enough to get me started on that.

Or perhaps I could do the unthinkable and actually buy a "full price" $19.99 used game - they might have some good stuff at that price point now. That would be a decent enough trade.

Or you could get 2 Nos for $4 :bouncy:
Nos the energy drink. That's 2 Batman Beyond skins!
Ah, never heard of that before though I did see a thread about Batman and some drink. I'll check it out if I can't find anything else ;).

The skin is worth at least $4-5 (sometimes more) on ebay. So for each $2 in credit, you could turn it into $4-5 cash. Doubt you can beat that deal right now. Just make sure the can has the yellow label so you don't buy one without a code. One BBV had no yellow label ones which sucked.
Any BOGO sales coming up? One for Halloween?
A BBV employee that I don't know very well told me probably in December.

One of my BBVs got in a lot of cool gaming posters. They aren't the "framed art" but instead regular posters for $9.99. They were pretty awesome. I'd buy all of them if I had the money or wallspace. I'll try to list the ones I remember:

New Super Mario Bros (pretty awesome landscape view with all the characters and villians)
Batman Arkham City cover with Batman and Catwoman
Batman Arkham City landscape view with all the villians
Halo Anniversary Edition cover

Also,
Star wars original trilogy blu ray cover (darth vader)
Star wars prequel trilogy blu ray cover (yoda)
Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory saying "Bazinga"

There were a bunch of other ones. They all looked badass except the damn Bieber ones that were thrown in there.;)

I keep patiently waiting for another Blu-ray drop/transfer and another B1G1 on used games. BTW the TIV for Brink is still 17 for both 360 and ps3, but there isn't much to spend credit on. The blu-ray selection and game selections are very very sparse at all of my stores. I think I've traded in two or more copies of brink at every store so I'm done now. I tried to be careful and trade 1 xbox and 1 ps3 brink, but of course the last employee rang it up as trading in two copies of 360. :wall::wall::wall: I'm trying not to raise any red flags. Also, finding an employee that knows they are allowed to do trade ins after the Dish Network merger has been very very very difficult for me.

Son of a mother. I looked for Nos at Target, Super Target, and Publix and came up empty. I should I fucking checked BBV when I was there. Garsh darn it. They are 2 for $4? How much does one can cost?

You'd probably have a better chance of finding them @ a convenience store or a gas station or 7/11 because these re stock their drinks more often so u'll more likely to get the newer reward series. My BBV had NOS but they look like they've been there for years. haha

Good advice. You're right. I haven't stepped inside a gas station in maybe 10 or more years. I'm kind of a health nut, so there's nothing there I will eat. I probably wont even drink the NOS drink, but I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Does blockbuster ever give some kind of bonus like a GC or something for preorders? I see the signs all the time for preorders, but it seems silly to preorder a game without any bonuses.

They would give out framed art, but that stopped. Now they do a free 1 month rental pass if you purchase the game. I prefered the framed art.

One can is $2.49. One store only had regular cans so I quit going there since they don't have good games or Nos.

Also my Harris Teeter grocery store had a 4 pack for $5.99 with their VIC membership.

Yeah those were cute. I still have mine. I think they had Force Unleashed, Guitar Hero Aerosmith, GTA 4, and something else. I know I'm forgetting a couple. Maybe Fable? BBV was going to throw out their leftovers and an BBV employee gave me a few so I have some doubles.

For anyone wondering what we are talking about, the framed art was very small. Not the big poster sized ones.

She keeps saying, "u know it's not turning into cash right??" lol duhh. I did went on a junk food frenzy at their store today just so she feels better. Down to $95 ish now.

Only thing I'm worried bout with my $19 in cred sitting at my BBV is whether or not Dish is done liquidating/closing stores yet. If not and they closed my remaining 3-4 close stores I'd be pissed, since the next closest is around 45 minutes ride from here.:whistle2:#

yah my store is a block over, but i do have 2 more close by so i don't mind. But I'd still be pissed if this store close down. Seems like they're doing well. The scary thing is the other stores are remodeling, this store is not. Red flag?
