Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

Blockbuster on Kapiolani Blvd in Honolulu has about 1 week to go. All Blu's at $1.99 including complete seasons on Blu if you can find it. Picked up some pretty good ones including 3rd season of Mad Men, Scream 4, Avatar Airbender (I know it sucks), Primal Fear Hard Evidence Edition, and a couple of others I forget. Manager threw in one for free since I used to shop there all the time. Still alot of stock left.
Is the most recent used blu-ray sale (5@$9.99 or less for $20) still going?
Hawaiiboy, are there any new price drops for blu rays this week? It's been months. Thanks!

Price drops last week and this week.

Lego pirates of the Caribbean $9.99

:ps3:
Cars 2 $19.99
Deus ex $19.99
Disneys phineas and ferb $19.99
Disney universe $19.99
Homefront $9.99
Lego pirates of the Caribbean $9.99

Cars 2 $19.99
Disney phineas and ferb $19.99
Disney universe $19.99
Lego pirates of the Caribbean $9.99

We have a spring sale on 3/31 and 4/1. I havent seen the list of price drops but the guide says its BIG. Licensed merchandise will be marked down along with additional titles for the 5 for $20 deal.

I thought Deus Ex for both systems was already $19.99? I swear I bought it for that price with some of my remaining BBV credit when I couldn't find enough $14.99 titles at the very tail end of the 3/$15 n 5/$25 dealie.

Either way, thanks for the update Hawaiiboy.

Here's hoping for some more 90% off general merchandise markdowns. I need a couple more Snuggies to hoard till NEXT Christmas. I haven't even used all of the batteries or sold all of the keychains n CD's n shit I bought from both the Best Buy music CD/DVD/Blu-Ray clearance and the last BBV 90% off clearance.:whistle2:#

Nice drop on Lego Pirates. Dont know what I'd get with it though, or if my local Blockbuster even has any lego Pirates. Was pretty much picked clean last time I went. Wish Deus Ex dropped more.

Thanks for the update Hawaiiboy. Fortunately, I still have 3 Blockbusters within reasonable driving distance. Looking forward to the spring sale, will the 5 for 20 be a mix/match with the Blu rays also?

Went to my local store today that's closing... haven't been there since the pre-holiday sale. What a joke... games are at 20% off and are mostly gone already. Used DVDs are either at $4 or $7 a piece (depending on what category they fall into, apparently), and blu-rays are much more than that. And yet, the store is the busiest I've ever seen it, just because of the big "Store Closing" signs outside. *sigh* oh well.

Not quite sure what you would expect. If most are gone and only at 20%, then most were bought at either 10% or 20%. Liquidations are actually designed to make a money, not just give items away.

HB, do you know the 5 for $20 sale is still limited to DVDs and blus. Cuz I specifically you remember you saying that they discontinued mixing and matching dvds with games. Thanks hawaii boy and have a good one.

Yeah. I don't get this either. The local BBV is slammed on the weekend(especially Sat nights), yet during the week you could probably hear a pin drop in the store with how dead it is.

Yet as soon as a store puts up a big 'store closing sale' sign, all of the normal shmucks that pay MSRP for shit think they're getting some insane deals and swoop down like a buncha vultures. Same thing happened when Borders went out of business. I went in about once a week every week and the conversations I had with some of these 'deal' shoppers were quite hilarious.

One guy looked at me like I was nuts for waiting for a better discount and rolled his eyes when I told him how I used to clean out these places on the last day for like 90% off. But hey, if it's what they consider a good deal and in the case of BBV if it's a sale being run BY BBV and keeps them from shuttering the rest of the stores, then please people keep buying shit at 10% off.

Apparently Sunday was the last day for my local Blockbuster. I didn't even bother going in since like the first few days of the sale. Driving by it looked pathetic - mostly empty with just a few racks in the center of the store. So very sad... I may never go to a Blockbuster store again.

Thanks for the update. I hope they convert some more of their rentals over to preowned games. Oh the possibilities.

Not sure where you are located but Sunday was the last day for 2 around KC that were closing.

A few pre played games put out today. Still no list of price drops for the weekend.

:360: :ps3:

Kingdoms of Amalur $44.99
Darkness II $39.99
Final fantasy XIII-2 $34.99

I've only got 1 out of the 5 BBV's left anywhere close to me. It's a hole in the wall store that may have a half dozen games for sale at best. They still have almost a whole row of PS2 and Xbox games that are still rental games.

Anything good? Rent them and just keep them. Probably $4.99 at the most at this point to keep.

Yep, my BBV is toast - drove by and it was empty and dark, with not a car in the lot. It went out with such a whimper, too...

That's really a shame, considering you're the guy who, through an earlier version of this thread, taught me and several others how to play the game, so to speak. Yes, I'm a flipper, I'll admit it, but I'm not el Hordo, because you taught us how to do it the right way! For the time being, I've still got one or two semi-local stores that haven't started liquidation yet. We'll see if they stick around, or if they're just on borrowed time. But it's a shame you've lost your last local store, io. Sorry to hear it. And hey, thanks for teaching me how to get most of my videogames for virtually free, plus a little time and effort!

Mine closed several months back, however, there are still 3 in the area (not sure why), so I'll keep my fingers crossed that they make it until the next sale:)

I passed by one of the BBV stores that they shuttered without doing the closing sale thing at a couple of days ago. A month ago they still had tons of shelving and other fixtures still sitting in the store. When I took a glance in the other day everything was gone. I had actually considered calling the rental/leasing company to see if I coulda brokered a deal for some of those shelves so I could get some cheap shelving for my tv room downstairs in my house.

But I guess that idea went out the window now.

Hawaiiboy, any word on the Spring Sale for 3/31?
Any indication that rentals will be converted? Dropped by my local Blockbuster, and the selection was looking pretty thin.

I saw a shitload of signs that said 5/$20 already up on each of the endcaps in the gaming section at the closest store to me when I went by there tonight. But I was short on time and I didn't bother stopping in. I'll probably check it out tomorrow night when I get home from going outta town for work.

Nothing yet. Each store is supposed to get more movies for the 5 for $20 deal. Our store received a couple hundred though they were all crappy titles. Still waiting for the supposed game price drops.

Damn! I was hoping titles like Thor, Xmen First Class, latest Transformers were gonna be part of the 5 for $20.

Yeah, I still have some "in the area" but they aren't as convenient as the one that was 1/2 mile from my house. Besides Fred Meyer it was the only video game related store that was within 10 miles (GS, Target, Best Buy, etc are all at least that far for me).

I think there are still a few stores in the 10-20 mile range, though. Of course if there is an awesome B1G1 or 5 for $20 or something I will check them out. But otherwise it is sort of an "out of sight, out of mind" thing with me and BBV right now.

Wow - using the store locator it is a vast empty wasteland out there. There are only 3 stores in what I would consider my extended area. One is 9.4 miles, the second is 13.6 miles and the third is 16.7 miles and they are all in different directions. There used to be probably 20 stores within that 16 mile radius 4-5 years ago and at least 8 or 9 just a year ago.
I don't know if it was mentioned before, but :ps3::360:Red Faction Armageddon is down to the magical $14.99 price that qualifies for the BOGO n other sales.
My local store had about a dozen of these. Yeah, $14.99. That game is not nearly as bad as you may have heard. I would've preferred a more open world like Guerrilla had, but it was fun for the few days I played it. as part of a BOGO, or 5 for 25 sale, or whatever, it's a fun game.

Anyone use the blockbuster online service? Looks like they started hiding the availability for games in my queue. So I have no idea if any of them are likely to ever ship or not. Anyone else noticing that change?

Yes I have also noticed this change. No idea what the deal is with that.

I'll have to call my closest BBV in a bit to see if they know anything about this possible spring sale. Though I remember seeing a lil sign on the endcaps in the game section the other night advertising inFamous 2, Battlefield 3 and at least one other game with prices ranging from $29.99 to $39.99. I certainly hope that isn't the main portion of the sale.
