Are you really going to play these games for over a year though? And, furthermore, you don't think that'd it'd be likely that you sign up again?
yes, and no.

-i like having them there so if i dont get to them soon i can always pick it back up months, or even years later. and im not going to pay for 2 game subscriptions every year. i completely understand the logic in them de-activating when your subs over, but it still sucks to be renting these games until you dont want to subscribe. good deal i think for those with ps3 only and more time on their hands than i. more power to those who want it.

I picked up a twelve month subscription + 3 months. Those Target giftcards were burning a hole in my pocket. I'm dl'ing Lead and Gold and some others right now.
I read on a site that the PS One classic games still work even if your subscription runs out. It was kind of an old article though. Does anyone know if that's still true?
I just checked my PS one games and it has an expiration on it.

The expiration date is the day your plus membership expires, I don't know what will happen since I have a little less than a year to go.

I'm still under the impression that if I make sure that my subscription never expires, I will always have the games available to me with no interruption. Am I wrong in thinking that?

I checked the Sam and Max games and they don't have an expiration date on my PS3. The expiration date is blank and there is no time limit. This maybe because I was affected by the error when trying to download them as I had previously downloaded the Episode 1 demo. Sony had to send me a code to allow me to download the 5 episodes.

I also see 2 other games that don't list an expiration date that I d/l for free through PS+. They don't show anything below the version # so I assume they still expire as, games that I have bought, list a blank for expiration date but I'm curious if anyone else sees the same things.

Critter Crunch
Wipeout HD

Mine doesn't have an expiration as well. But I checked services list under account managedment and its listed on there but no expiration date too which makes me think if we can play it after our subcription ends. We'll see though.

I think I remember something about Wipeout actually being a PS+ launch gift - so that may be permanent on purpose. As for Critter Crunch, I can't tell you about that because I actually did buy this game when it was on sale right before PS+ launched. That was one of the early string of "free" games from PS+ that I already owned (also Mushroom Wars and a couple others I can't remember right now). Like I said, though, it has been much better (for me) recently. I just played through part of Sam & Max Ep/ 3 tonight in fact.

PS+ is worth it if you want to get a bunch of games that you might be on the fence of downloading. I figure if its FREE download it cause you can always get it back from history. Makes good use of the larger hard drives on the PS3 Slim. I can only see PS+ getting better over time. I have been a member since Aug. and a good deal for what you get. I also like 15 months for the price of 12.

FWIW, Wipeout and Sam & Max Ep. 1 are the only free PSN games I got from PS+ that don't seem to have expiration dates. But like I said before, I bought Critter Crunch previously.

This week there is a 1 week only discount on Scott Pilgrim. $5 instead of $9.99, I bought it. There is also a 1 hour game trial of Mass Effect 2, Hero of Sparta mini for free, a Sonic the Hedgehog 4 dynamic theme, Argyle Girl theme, and I think one more free theme.

Edit: Here is the list from the PS Blog with a few additional discounts and items

awesome, i don't have digger. i almost always have the free game of the month... but i still love my psn+ subscription.

i look forward every to every update. my only complaint is i wish auto-update was a bit more configurable. i don't have bandwith issues so i'd love for it to grab pretty much every patch i need, regardless of the last time i played a game.
I'm still under the impression that if I make sure that my subscription never expires, I will always have the games available to me with no interruption. Am I wrong in thinking that?
no, you're correct, they'll always be available. even if you have a gap in your subscription, as long as you dl'd it during the free period and are currently subscribed, you can play. also, anything bought at a sale price is yours to keep regardless of subscription status.

Sadly so far, I've bought nearly every single game offered for free (Lead and Gold is the only one so far) as a PSN Plus subscriber. It's almost funny that they make you reconsider buying something (even with the PSN Plus discount) simply because 3-6 months down the road it might be offered for free (Dead Nation will probably fit this criteria, though it's worth every cent I paid).

Sweeeet! Pretty solid month! Seems like they are slowly stepping up.

Tag. Also, I was wondering. I'm already a psn+ member but was curious if you could do gamesharing with it. If possible making a gameshare account, getting it a psn+ account splitting the cost and having access to the freebies and possible discounted games split even more.

Just curious

I don't usually buy PSN games, so PS+ is working great for me. I usually think they are too expensive at release, then forget about them until they go on sale or have a price drop. I am waiting for a decent deal on Costume Quest and Dead Nation, but Digger looks good too!

For the most part yes PSN + is "game share-able". Things like the free avatars are not share-able since they'll only show up for the PSN I.D. directly connected with the PSN + account. The 60 minute trial/demos are technically share-able...but who wants to play 12 or so minutes of something lol. Everything else, like free games, themes, & discounted games, etc. are completely "game share-able".

I speak from personal experience.

argh, didn't know Scott Pilgrim vs. the World discount was only for one week...I was planning to get it this afternoon, but by the time I got on my PS3, the store updated. if only it had updated late like usual, I could have bought it

I've been on a little streak of getting good stuff I didn't have (Shatter, Sam & Max, Lead & Gold, Digger). But since last summer I have actively been avoiding buying anything that is PS3 exclusive (at least as far as consoles go) because any of those exclusives have a chance of being a free PS+ game. Thus, even though I'd really like to get them, I'm passing on some games in the current PSN sale like Hoard and Tumble. But I had no problem buying the cross-platform stuff (Costume Quest and Swords & Soldiers).

I hope you're joking. Spelunker HD and Digger HD are two completely different games.

It's not up anymore? The posts didn't say anything about it only being a week deal, that sucks, I'll have to edit the OP then.

Guess my mistake then, my apologies!

Ugh, I didn't know the Scott Pilgrim discount was for one week only. I got PS+ a few weeks ago and I figured all of the discounts lasted a couple weeks. I was going to download it today and today is the day that the sale ended. That sucks.

I guess I'll just get Fat Princess next week.

I also thought it lasted a few weeks, but I try to make sure I buy any sale items I'm interested in by that Monday. I suggest you start doing the same.

Both of them are well worth MSRP if you have the cash, especially if you have co-op friends.
I think I am going to get PSN + tomorrow, will I still be able to access these deals?
You will have access to everything in the OP.

I am stoked they are releasing the Mega Man (Rock Man) games for $3 each. Since i grew up on these games this price is a steal. I am hoping by they time PS finishes these they will have a sale on Mega Man 9 & 10.
Just out of curiosity.. Is Digger HD supposed to be Spelunker HD?
I know people have answered that they're two different games, but I haven't seen anyone mention this - Digger HD is basically Dig Dug. Spelunker HD is...well, a remake of Spelunker. :p Digger HD is ok as a freebie, it's a decent enough time waster. Was much happier about that free Spyro 2 personally. ;)

Played Digger HD last night, not really my type of game. Granted I'm not very good at it and I was never into Dig Dug but oh well. Thinking about grabbing Mega Man 2 for $3

yeah, how the hell did I grow up not ever playing Digger? I had no idea WTF I was doing or supposed to do. Then I tried the 'retro' version of the game, and while it looked authentic, it also liked as it could have easily been made to go with this HD version, leading me to believe it was all a Lie. Had to Wiki the game today to get the history on it..it's real enough. But is it real fun? maybe..hey its free!
WTF?! So if i get Lead and Gold for free with PSN +, when my subs over the game wont work? that makes this a definite no buy for me if this is the case.
This is the single problem holding everyone back. I would jump all over this if I got to keep the content.

Stacking plus Lead and Gold for free sounds ridiculously good until you consider the fact that when you stop paying $50 a year for the service, you lose it and everything else that you have already in a way paid for. So as it is it seems like a glorified rental service which just does not interest me.

Edit: But I admit I'm still very tempted even knowing if my sub goes so do all my goods..

I still think it's a good deal, even with the "rental" quality to the service. Between all the game usage and the other freebies and discounts, there's no way it doesn't pay for itself over one year. I'm always afraid to buy anything on PSN now for fear of it becoming free later. To get a highly-anticipated game for "free" at launch is pretty great, even if it isn't really yours forever.

Barely anyone is playing Lead and Gold now as it is. Imagine a year from now. I also wonder, do you have a backlog? Do you often go back adn play PSN games multiple times after a year? I have both a growing backlog and I rarely play PSN games multiple times, thus the "rental" aspect tdoes not bother me at all. Plus I actually like the service and the amount of things I've gotten for it, so I plan to re-subscribe again and all of my games I've downloaded will still be good.

Being part of the exclusive betas, and getting demos ahead of everyone, plus the discounts are what really puts it over the top for me and is definitely worth the money.

I agree 100%, this is just the start of things with PS+. I feel as the service grows it will just become better. Glad I was able to jump on after only missing 2 months of it. My subscription has already paid for itself.

Yeah I probably will get it one way or another. I'm such a filthy whore. Good game Sony, you win.

Also I had no idea I could have had the entire Sam & Max series for "free". I really wanted those but not for the price. Oh well. Stacking looks good enough to justify it really. Brilliant move for both Sony and Double Fine..

But yes ss I will go back and play some (although probably very few) of the PSN games. Monkey Island, Pac Man...any classic stuff like that I may go back to years from now even. Granted if I let the sub lapse and really wanted something, nothing is stopping me from buying it again.
