Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I have this through OnLive and played about a couple of hours. I definitely enjoyed it but don't think I could play without a controller.

Good game though, not sure if I'm ready to double dip on this one yet.
I played Trine on Steam. I used a 360 controller. So, I'm not sure what your point is. Most serious PC gamers have controllers, too.

PS - The wizard controls better with KBAM.

I loved Gun a lot.

Though, yeah, it should be cheaper for $5.

By the way, those Hector games? Delightful. You'd be a dope not to get them when they next go on sale.

That depends on your definition of 'serious PC gamers,' if you mean ones that play console games on PC to reap the benefits of higher definition graphics then sure. If you mean gamers who are serious about PC centric games then... no. While I do own a controller (picked it up for $10) the only game I've used it for was Meat Boy.

Loved Trine. I played it with a keyboard and mouse because I think the wizard was easier to control (make boxes) with a mouse. Normally for a platformer like this I would use a controller.

Yeesh, I stepped in here to see what deals hit today, and I see we've started measuring our "serious pc gamer" e-penises. Great.

Agreed, stop with the e-penis-envy and braggery.

GAH!!! All of these deals would be great if i could recover my dang steam account. Everytime i try to recover it, they tell me they are sending me an email that i never get.

Personally, the luxury of relaxing on my bed and enjoying a game with a controller outweighs the precision and accuracy gained when using a mouse and keyboard. However, I don't deny that the mouse and keyboard has its benefits and is absolutely necessary when competitive, especially in FPS games; anyone who argues against this is foolish.

Neither gamepads nor KBAM are "for" either. It depends on the game. Period.

I play Team Fortress 2 with a 360 pad and I consistently place at the top of the board.

It can be done.

I'm sorry, but you must be playing in a controller-only server. You can't possibly say that you'd perform better than someone with a mouse/keyboard or even you playing with a mouse/keyboard.

Controllers are for consoles, silly Vegan.

Considering the Total War Mega Pack as a last minute purchase. Would it be a good idea to get it if I'm totally new to the Total War series?
Controllers are for GAMES THAT WERE DESIGNED FOR THEM. =]
Fixed that for you! ;)

How about we all play how we want to play? Considering we're experiencing great games together, I see no reason to say they can't be played how you like.

This. There are games that I feel work better with a controller and games I feel work better with a KBAM. There are also just times that because I grew up as a console kid that I want to use a controller even if KBAM is ideal. Then there are times where I want to ride my exercise bike and play a game at the same time(do this almost every day) or lounge on the couch. Either of those times obviously a KBAM are not going to work.

Different people will want different set ups for different reasons at different times.

Gamer A: "Controllers are better!"
Gamer B: "M/K is better!"
Gamer C: "They're both good in their own way."
Gamer A & B: "Shut up!"

I don't know why so many people feel the need to rehash the Controller vs M/K debate. You've seen it before. This isn't your first day on the internet.

Re: bolded part, I can't believe that never occurred to me.
Please put Bastion on sale, Baby Jesus!
I'm sure it will be on BF. Sadly, I don't think Valve has the balls to drop it to $5 which is my price point. :\
Re: bolded part, I can't believe that never occurred to me.
Heh yeah I was so glad I thought of riding the bike and playing games at the same time. Years ago I used to find it difficult to get the motivation to exercise and was trying to think of a way to make it more entertaining. My wife suggested movies, but im not the biggest movie/TV guy. Hit me like a rocket though that if I had a sit down exercise bike it requires nothing of your hands so I could play more slow paced games like RPGs or board games while riding the bike. Recently iv been playing Risk or Magic Cards(on my PS3) while I have a podcast, wrestling or daily show going on my PC. Makes working out so much more tolerable.

Ugh. Gave into temptation and picked up Alpha Protocol for $2. Not sure when I'll get around to playing it, but it's hard to pass up a game like that for $2, especially since there seem to be quite a few people that really like it, despite the not-so-great reviews.

That's a heck of a deal. If you like those types of games (I do), I'd get it. In fact, I played TW: Rome for about 7 hours last night. I'm newer to this series to. There's mods for these games as well.

Been tempted to get the new Shogun 2, but I have all those games in the TW pack that should last me until it's sub $20.

Rome is the best in that pack from what I hear. Napoleon seems to be hit or miss depending on your tastes. Empire is so-so from what I gather and Medieval is fun if you like that era (many mods too).

Yuk.

I was hoping maybe Capcom would follow up the sale they had on their own site with a publisher's week of their own on Steam.

Looking for super-cheap Dead Rising 2 and SSF4:AE

Capcom doesn't know how to do sales on Steam. They keep their MSRP high then do a crappy 50% off and the game is still way to expensive.

This is true, but they did let SF4 go for a decent price last year (~$10) and I remain hopeful. Capcom and Activision are both notoriously stingy .
Just finished Alpha Protocol. All I want to do is play it again. Thanks for the recommendation.
That's honestly how I felt about the game as well when I originally bought it for the 360, it's one of the few that I didn't throw in the "crap to trade-in" pile and one I will hold onto.
Just finished Alpha Protocol. All I want to do is play it again. Thanks for the recommendation.
Yeah, just bought it and still playing it. Skipped on it when it first came out due to the mixed/negative reviews, but now I'm wondering why it didn't get better ratings...

I generally dig TPS-RPG hybrids, and I'm really liking the stat bent that Alpha Protocol takes.

I have a strong feeling that it'll be a Capcom "1 deal a day" from Thursday-Monday as the weekend deal (similar to last week's Sega weekend).

Unfortunately, it'll probably be crappy, limited to only 50% off titles (RE5 and DMC4 at $9.99, Dead Rising 2 and Dead Planet 2 at $14.99)

I've played about four mission and am enjoying myself quite a bit. It sure isn't perfect, the AI is quite stupid and the game, so far, is quite easy, but it was more than worth two dollars.

FWIW, I haven't yet played the new Deus Ex, I imagine playing Alpha Protocol after DEHR must be quite a disappointment.
