Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
This is true, Kaltic. Who cares if the date chosen for New Year's is arbitrary? All holidays have the meaning we give them. It's the traditions that make them special, not just the number on the calendar.
And there it is. At some point in time someone did decide that the New Year's Day was a special day and that it should be remembered as such, but that wasn't me. Also I think I started off by saying that the traditions of starting a New Year happen every Friday and Saturday for college students. So I wouldn't consider those traditions special by any means.

And really it just comes down to my definition of a holiday. I believe that a holiday should be a day or time in which something occurred (in history and for a second in the present) and is grand enough for us to remember it and then celebrate it. The key word is DAY or TIME in my definition.

Yes, my definition of a holiday clashes with the real definition of the holiday, but I feel that, that is ok considering people randomly chose different days to start a New Year I can choose a different definition.

Plus the definition of a holiday revolves around a time in which we can relax and become far more care free, but if anything New Years goes against that. I mean at any point in time another Y2K could come and scare the s*** out of stupid people... not relaxing for those people.

When it comes to the definition of holiday I am like those people that pronounce names incorrectly even though there is a definitive way to say those peoples names (i.e. Legolas).

EDIT: To add something game related. Sanctum's weekend deal will be ending fairly soon so jump on that if you guys want it. If you think it lacks content and has way too much DLC, I would like to add that they have actually done a good job with free content since I got it, which was probably during the summer... I can't even remember when it comes to Steam sales... There are just too many of them...

Oh Galcon Fusion.... Such simple gameplay and yet one of the most intense multiplayer experiences I've ever had. For those who are interested, here is probably the most accurate video I've found for matches against humans.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KjomAsUj7M&feature=related

Keep in mind those who play regularly tend to be much more aggressive and smart with their units compared with the players shown in the video.

I haven't played Galcon Fusion, but I did play the original Galcon back when it was free on InstantAction. It was probably my most played game on there, had a lot of fun with it, as simple as it was. Are there any major differences in Fusion?
Galcon Fusion ($3.40 - 66% off) is today's Daily Deal . Also, a demo is available.
Quite fun, although highly repetitive. Just can't bring myself to buy it considering its price compared to other deals I've gotten off steam (Like Gothic 2 & 3 for $2).
Sadly yes. I say sadly because every time Steam does a sale our wallets are not safe .

I mean Steam really knows how to take our money. Halloween, then Black Friday then Holiday Sale. That's 3 sales in 3 months. Not good for any of us .
Exactly, might as well just direct deposit our checks into our Steam wallets.

As for the game: Galcon Fusion is pretty cool for being a relatively simple, yet intense game. I picked it up during the Holiday sale last year (it's also the Holiday sale to me damnit!) . However, I recommend waiting since it's very possible it could be a) cheaper discounted alone or b) bundled with other games for a deep discount during the upcoming Holiday sales.

Full disclose here: Never touched the original Galcon. However, here's what I've gathered from asking a few friends: A lot more planets to fight over, quite a few game modes, in game chat system in the match lobby. and overall more complexity. Basic gameplay still the same.

I really need to stress that the real action in this game is the multiplayer. If you're willing to tough it out and stick with the regulars, you should have no problems getting your money's worth. (Though the CAG in me says don't buy now, you are so close to the big sales!)

Should also mention that there really isn't a lot of people playing at one time. 100 to 300 at the most, but never a problem finding a game to join since they only last about 1-3 minutes.
Anyone know if global achievements compares those that own the game or those that have actually played it?
I have wondered this myself but after looking at a few games' global achievements I am pretty sure it is based off of who own the game. If you look at Hoard's achievements they have a few achievements that you get literally a couples minutes into the game and there are around 15-20% people who have not got them. Another example would be Psychonauts, which added achievements only recently, it has only a 6.5% completion rate for its highest percentage completed achievement.

Agreed with rerujnoc. So many games with easy achievements have low statistics for the beginning achievements and it pretty much has to be based on who all has the game. If not, it's a severely depressing picture of how quickly people get bored of games. :/

That seems to make sense and was more in line with what I was thinking. It sure is a sad picture when you realize how few people have played a game sometimes, despite it sitting in their backlog.
Anyone think we may get a MWM for the COD franchise to coincide with the MW3 coming out?
:) This made me smile not only because of the improbability of a sale on MW3 so soon but also at the thought of how pissed off all the kids would be who bought it already.

Where the hell did you get that out of what he said? He's asking if there'll be a Midweek Madness sale since MW3 came out today. :???:

To respond, I highly doubt it since there was a sale on the franchise not too long ago, but there's still a small chance.

Ah, not sure they are usually up by now but sometimes they come up Tuesday. Steam seems to be getting hammered right now by MW3 downloads though and the forums were down most of last night and today.

Actually what he posted did technically include MW3. He asked if their would be a Midweek Madness on the CoD franchise, not just a Midweek Madness in general.

While I imagine drake meant on previous CoD games, it did mean Provis interpreted it correctly.

AI War is a great game. If you dig a different type of strat game I recommend it, great with coop too. Demo on Steam. Hard to go wrong for $5 if you enjoy the demo.

Deal of the day
AI War: Fleet Command
-75% Off - Regular price $19.99 - Sale Price $5.00

Is it just me, or has this been the DOTD recently?

Edit: Sorry. It was already posted. Didn't see it.

I highly recommend ARMA II but I'd save $5 and just get Combined Operations and the two DLCs unless you really want Arma Gold and Cold War Assault (AKA Operation Flashpoint). Cold War Assault is missing the Red Hammer Expansion so it's not complete. Also be aware that ARMA II requires a pretty beefy system, especially if you want to run it to the max.

This is true, Although I should have been more clear in my wording. I didnt think there would be a deal on MW3 in any way. Oh well dosent matter with the MWM being ARMA.

Although in my opinion I feel the steam sales have been weak since Halloween. Makes me think there saving all the good deals for BF/Holiday Sale

Bastion was the first Midweek Madness deal after Halloween. It was the first time it was discounted so I consider that a strong sale.

I won't deny that was a good sale, but not a great steam one. If it had been 75% off (yes I know not much of a price differance) it would have been a instant buy. But I myself was able to hold off in hopes of a indie bundle deal, or it being cheaper in the coming sales. I for myself just havent felt the need to throw money at steam.

Although truth be told with around 200 game sin my library, I'm getting to the point where there isnt a whole lot of games I want... Still waiting on a Space Marine sale though.

You know the Indie sales are effective when people start honestly hoping that professionally published games will be included in the near future...

In..deed

I'm hoping the "Really big bundle" has skyrim in it, lol j/k ;). Although just under 2 days till then next indie royal bundle
What are the odds of the Bethesda Pack being on sale again for Skyrim's release?
I wish.

I missed the Bethesda sale back in early August because I was flat-broke.

Finishing up Bastion now, it was quite good, combat is a little too straightforward but definitely worth your time if you manage to jump on a sale.
Asteroid Fly-By Sale

RAGE $40.19 33% off till Thursday 4pm PST
Not cheap enough for my blood...yet...

Lmfao... That's a pretty funny sale name/backstory.

We aren't dead, play RAGE!

Someone selling RAGE for $25 in the Steam trade thread, check it out if you're thinking about biting on this.

I finally bit on a Steam sale for ARMA. I was thinking of just getting ARMA 2: Combined Operations and their expansions, but for $5 more I could also get ARMA Gold and ARMA Cold War Assault (basically it's the original Operation Flashpoint & it's expansion...which I loved). So I went with the ARMA X: Anniversary Edtion for $29.99 that contains everything! :D

So glad to see that Bohemian Interactive is still developing these military tactical sims...continuing with ARMA 3, which is looking outstanding.

^ Heh. I'm picking this up, as it's the prequel predecessor to Elven Legacy, which I haven't been able to track down a hard copy of, and that no one is even offering on Goozex.

Also, I updated my custom user title in honor of the recent thread digression we had here.
