Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
If you wanted SS 3 and DLC then yes this is nice. SS3 has only ever been $7.50 if memory serves. That strikes me as a lapse in judgment though. The last thing I want after a SS game is more SS. Hell, wish I had had LESS SS3
I played a Serious Sam game once, the first one, soon after it came out. I still don't want any more Serious Sam.

Looks like the MSRP for Binary Domain recently dropped to $25. At this new price point, hitting $6.25 should be a fairly regular occurrence from here on out. It's still a nice deal, but I'm with Lint, $5 or bust.
Or have Idioteqke and Motoki co-host.
It'd be like "At the Movies" but for games on Steam!

I'm not fit to handle an OP. Proof? I'm bumping Bad Rats to the top of my backlog, 'cause I'm on an 100% achievements kick and I need to stop, somehow.
$5 or bust for Binary Domain!

Back to the real point in this thread, I think dfg should make the OP. Or have Idioteqke and Motoki co-host. Or asheskitty as punishment for posting a deal.
Imagine a podcast w/ all 3 together - Idiotekque, Motoki, and Asheskitty...

Wait, when does the Steam Winter Sale start?!? It's not the 21 rst is it?? My God, the Myans were right! Steam's servers will melt and set the world on fire!! I don't know why everyone's so intent on finding a new thread starter, we're all gonna die anyway!!!

Oh, it's not the 21 rst..... carry on then.

P.S. I literally check this thread everyday, multiple times, but I never check the OP.

I always thought of the first post as just being used to start the thread.

I'm almost certain that a Steam thread podcast would be the worst podcast ever recorded.

Almost.

Do you think it'd be a "so bad it's good" kind of thing?

The best part would be uncovering all of the hidden Steam keys distributed within.

Edit: Hm. The current http://getloadedgo.com/ promo, is this the first that the GotY version of Borderlands has hit the $5 mark (effectively)? Or is it that cheap in the 4-pack when it goes on its usual $7.49 sale? I never paid much attention to 4-pack prices until recently. Also, I'm finding that I'm just not as interested in picking up the first game as I used to be.

Just finished up. I wasn't keeping track, but it had to be over 20 minutes. No wonder game budgets are through the roof.

Just wanted to say thanks to warreni for the Eversion key.

Well I just finished a few demos...

Gaina Sisters: Twisted Dreams -- pretty good. I'd be tempted to pick it up at $3.75 (75% off). Competent platforming, response controls, creative bits of levels. Kickass soundtrack.

Hell Yeah -- it's alright. Demo was a bit easy. Controls could be tighter. I expect I'll wind up with it packed into some Tony-bundle next year. I don't feel compelled to pick it up outside a pack/bundle.

Unmechanical -- try Uninspired. What is does it does fairly smoothly. I felt the gameplay was stale. It needed (more?) Anti-Aliasing. Aurally dull. The keyboard controls annoyed me. The other two were controller friendly.
Someone wake me up when the AC3 credit roll finishes...
/facepalm I would have hoped they would have learned from AC:R. OMFG long credits with no freaking skip mechanism. I actually had to lookup online to see if I could get back to the island after finishing the main story line. I let the credits run while I went out.

Has anyone mentioned that the Walking Mars Steam keys are available if you purchased the Humble Bundle for Android 4? Just activated mine.
If this was posted and I somehow missed it while catching up ... well..

I took a shower and ironed a shirt while the Hitman: Absolution credits rolled and they were still going when I came back into the room. I thought maybe they just repeated but now I'm guessing that was all one rolling.

In contrast, the long (though not absurdly long) credits for Saint's Row The Third were fun -- songs that matched/set the mood and goofy pictures of the dev teams. And it was skippable.

You're completely forgetting about RollingSkull, though. We need him as a special guest star or something.

"How's it look on the indie game forecast, Rolly?"
"THEY ALL SUCK!"
"Thank you, Rolly. In other news..."
The fan ALREADY HAS the series though. That's the oddest part. Anybody who doesn't have the series would be jumping in too deep buying all of these games, especially considering the deal history of these games and how almost interchangeable they are.
The series obviously doesn't appeal to everyone, but I'm sure there are still people out there that haven't tried SS or maybe used to have them on disc and just want to go all-in. I still say you're selling them a bit short and they aren't as interchangeable as you make them out to be.

Neither of us is going to change our opinions so we'll just have to agree to disagree. Every time someone mentions SS, you'll knock it and I'll have to throw in a bit of defense. Nothing personal. ;)

Alright, finally have a PC that can run games decently. Now to join in on this thread and read hundreds of pages back to catch up...

Every time somebody refers to Serious Sam as SS my mind jumps to Nazis and then I'm positive we're talking about the Wolfenstein franchise.

My favorite thing about RollingSkull is the way everyone reacts to RollingSkull. It seems like every few weeks we just get a few pages of people talking about him talking about games.

My favorite thing about coming back to this thread after a couple months is seeing how everyone's avatars have changed. I think Blade wins.

I tend to think everyone actually is their avatar or signature.

For example, I'm under the impression that Genocidal actually is the late Eddie Guerrero.

Of course on some days I think he's Locke from Final Fantasy VI.

RollingSkull is a very smug Pheonix Wright.

Mooby is a slobbering golem that loves RPGs.

And asheskitty is a shapeshifter. Though before that she was invisible.

Serious Sam is now Wolfenstein.

And I am very tired.

And I am two breathtaking quasi-lesbianic young Russian girls.

Just read back a few more pages. Wow. Wow.

ANYWAY, I changed my mind, EliotAndrews has the best avatar.

And on-topic, I'm about 90 minutes into Waking Mars and I'm really enjoying it. It really captures that all-too-rare feeling of genuine exploration. Reminds me of Super Metroid in that sense. Definitely worth checking out.

I just played through Batman: The Brave and the Bold on the wii. The game is about 6 hours long, or twice that if you count the credits.
Serious Sam!
I've long been a fan of the Sam series, but I recommend it primarily as a multiplayer experience. I've had a great time playing through each of them (except 3. Haven't done 3 yet.) with a couple of pals in the same room, with the enemy multiplier thing turned on (enemies x number of players). I've done the First Encounter HD in single player just to try for a couple of achievements, but historically I've found the single player version kind of frustrating. It's for the multiplayer mode.

Is it the old soundtrack by Chris Huelsbeck?

EDIT: From GOG's website: "Features a two-sided retro/metal soundtrack by Chris Huelsbeck and Machinae Supremacy."

Hey if anybody out there actually wants a key for Bunch Of Heroes, quote this post and tell me that you want it. I'll then PM it to you.

Fair warning though, the game has a prety bad reputation. If it didn't, I'd probably just use the key myself.

I am a big booster of Inversion and Binary Domain as fun B-tier Gears-style shooters.

I just skipped Hitman Absolution's credits. I skip most of them these days. When it comes to Ubisoft games I just go into the next room.

I have just played 3 hours of Red Faction: Armageddon. I must say, reviews from Gamespot and Giantbomb were very generous. I find the shooting mechanics absolutely flat, no fun. The guns all sounded awful. While the "repair gun" mechanic can be fun, it wasn't used very intelligently (so far).

And, I think because of budget, the levels were monotonous. And having the story mostly happened underground doesn't help.

From what I have seen so far, then, I will give it a 2 out of 5. I know everyone now own this game that my review is kinda pointless. But when you consider whether to install it to your harddrive, I think you won't miss much if you just let it be just an entry in your steam backlog.
