There are quite a few free and free2play games and mods on steam. You can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Nope it's all or nothing - just like the purchase. It would be sweet if Valve let you split up packs like that, but it'd be the same as just giving away all the extras in people's inventory, since people would just buy packs, add them to their inventory, split them up, and only activate the ones they needed.
Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I'm only missing a few of those Sonic games - that's why I asked.

EDIT:

For those curious of what 5 Sonic games I'm missing:

Can I ask the obvious question (I've not seen it mentioned elsewhere)?

It's a L4D2 free weekend, right?

L4D2 has caaaaaaaaardz, right?

Can you get caaaaaaaaardz if you don't own the actual game?

p.s. jshackles -
Could you do me a hi-res avatar with this?

that's a good question can you get cards from a free weekend

Steam Card $ or CAG Card $? ;)

Or both? ;)

How much is an AshesKitty regular card & foil card going for? ;)
Not sure, there's only one in existence and it's never been up for auction. ;)

So it might have been mentioned but our fellow CAGer MHC ran into a little hurdle when listing more cards on the marketplace: apparently if you list more than 155 things in a year you need to provide Valve with your name, address, and... SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER? Uh... I don't think so. I checked and I'm already at like 115 items sold. Guess I'll have to be selective now 'cuz I'm damn sure not giving them my SSN.
Social Security Number... hmm were do I get that? I don't see any listed on the steam marketplace.

If FFVII keeps "the SE way", it will be 75% this weekend, and next weekend, price drop xD

If it's not today, I'm going to riot and flip over Gabe's car.
With Gabe in it?!? I'm impressed. You're stronger than I thought.

and now...

I'd assume so, so I'm actually glad I already sold all my L4D2 cards.

Now, I know I didnt need the Sonic Collection, but it is sad to miss a price mistake like that due to being oblivious about the time zone :(

Oh well...

I Believe you could buy Endless space and its new expansion pack together at a discounted price that was eventually corrected.
Oh, I thought it was something really crazy like the Sonic pack.

Thanks man. I wasn't gonna be able to sleep tonight otherwise.

No can do, compadre.

Did something happen with Endless Space today? Was there a pricing error on it or something?
ES + Disharmony for $11.54. I think basegame was $8.99 and expansion was $9.99 or something like that. It has been on my wishlist for a long long time. Not quite the magic 75%, but cheap enough for a 4x junkie to get a quick fix.

Also caaaaardz

I doubt you will be able to get cards from a free weekend. With other free games like TF2 and Warframe you've been required to make purchases in game to qualify for cards. So I suspect to get the card drops you'll have to click the buy button for L4D2.

Thanks man. I wasn't gonna be able to sleep tonight otherwise.
YW.

I'm sure many of us who bought Sonic Action Pack from Amazon DVG (12 items) are now missing some of the stuff that's in that Sonic Hits Steam Pack (17 items).

This pretty much illustrates what's missing - since I looked at both packs to see what I was missing.

OT: Endless Space + Sonic Hits = A good day to be someone who sits on the internet and constantly refreshes half a dozen websites.
Yeah, two price errors in one day! There's hope for a good Steam Summer Sale after all!

Did something happen with Endless Space today? Was there a pricing error on it or something?
You could buy ES + the new expansion together for $11.54 even though the page showed no %off discount. The publisher acknowledged the glitch and it was fixed.

I can confirm you *can't* get cards in the free weekend, so the market should be unaffected by that. Will still get affected by the sale.

Easter? As a non-Christian, I barely register Easter's existence. Grocery stores are open and it's just another weekend. Must be a regional thing.
Grocery stores are, retail stores less so. Last Easter I was in need of some sundry baby product and surprised to see that Target was closed. I figured they'd at least be open limited hours. Looking around briefly, I see it's hit and miss. Most malls and many department stores closed, Walmart open and most grocery stores open (but not all).

Back more on topic, I know I have a problem because I'm annoyed at missing the Sonic glitch even though I have zero interest in playing a Sonic game. Also, I missed it because I was actually playing games I do own and now regret it.

Glad I picked up the pack before the price change. However I'm kicking myself for not buying a second or third or ...

BOUGHT Baldur's gate. Thanks for the tips guys.

I didn't even notice that this was part of an ongoing conversation that you had been having. I just thought that it was you randomly posting about games that you didn't own. lol

Sorry about the snarky Ass Hole post.

Oh, I didn't catch your snarky tone!

LMAO!

[That's often why if I use snark, sarcasm, etc - I will post something along w/ it to mention how what I say is meant to be taken. Hard to sometimes convey tone & context over the Internet, I know.]

I actually thought you were glad I posted it b/c you also were going through the same ordeal (i.e. you bought Sonic Action Pack from Amazon DVG, but saw Sonic Hits Pack) and didn't know what the heck you might've been missing!

But, well - guess I was wrong, hehe!

And...don't be sorry. It's all good, man.

{shrug}

Problem is - I own a lot of Sonic stuff from Amazon DVG when they did their Sonic Action Pack:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A6CS1M6/ref=wms_ohs_product_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Amazon DVG's Sonic Action Pack has 12 of 17 things that are in Sonic Hits Steam Pack.

So, I'm missing:

Dr. Robotik's Mean Bean Machine

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (base game)

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed: DLC

Sonic Adventure 2 (base game)

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle DLC

So, what's actually worthwhile for what I'm missing here...?
Worth it for Transformed, but not quite a raging hot deal for you.

(I'm only missing a couple of the Genenis games, so meh. Nice glitch, not sad that I missed it.)

I was thinking maybe only real Sonic game I was scratching my head over maybe wanting was Sonic Adventure 2 + Battle DLC.

Anyone play those?

If so - any good?

Don't know entirely. We need to know what the video card is.

What's the video card in the notebook?

Video card = one of the most important parts for PC gaming.

The card alone often is enough to indicate if you can even boot a PC game up!

EDIT:

Thanks, Fatality - for pointing out the vid-card on that laptop! :D

I've heard it's a good port, haven't played it though. Just avoid playing Sonic Adventure 1, it's one of the worst ports on Steam.

Depends on the particular game. Games like BF4 and Crysis will probably run on low-to-medium, while older titles like L4D should run on medium-to-high. Same goes or racing games.

According to Notebookcheck.net you can get most games at 30 fps and above but do try on Ultra because most scores dip below. I use that website every time I think I am going to update my aging laptop.

Also just get a Xbox wired controller and it should work once you plug it in with compatible games.

Looks like a mid grade laptop to me. Based on specs alone I'd imagine you wouldn't have any issues running today's games (Ivy Bridge, mid-grade GPU chipset, enough RAM).

As for getting a wireless xbox controller to work with it, there's a simple plug and play wireless adapter dongle that works with them (such as: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2 , watch for cheap knock-offs). I used one for a year or so before it finally crapped the bed. Picked up a wired controller on the cheap and didn't look back.

I got Sonic Adventure DX (Non-Steam version) from Amazon DVG.
Are the Steam and Non-Steam versions different?
Yes. The non-Steam port of Sonic Adventure DX is entirely different than the Steam one.. but I'm not sure what the version from Amazon is like. If it's anything like the boxed copies of the game, then it should be a massive improvement.

At least you can get an "unofficial patch" for Sonic Adventure DX. I haven't seen mention of one for the other games from the Dreamcast bundle.

@D3M0N1CH3ART (sorry, bugged can't quote)

No.  It's a respectible mid-grade laptop, but for what you asked, no.  (Imo, a little overpriced, check slickdeals, there have been better deals on lenovos with 750M)
