I liked Stargate Atlantis too, but SG1 was better. Old Doctor Who episodes, however... not so good. Though I've only seen most of the black and white ones, not the ones in the 70s and 80s.

This whole conversation wholly hinges on whether you are talking in absolute terms.. or having somthing to watch at the (airing) time. Atlantis got off to a really rocky start and then became okay. Overall SG-1 was better. However late SG-1 got dull without Danial and Samantha having prominent roles. If you don't agree with this, well I think my magic 8-ball has some select words for you. ^_~

I started with Atlantis and then watched SG1, but haven't seen/can't recall every episode of each. A rewatch is coming on...
Infidel. Start with SG-1, season 1. watch chronologically.

It's not really worth worrying about redeeming it, it's not a unique class mod and the rarity is even random (some people are getting whites and greens even). You will most likely find better from playing or the golden chest.
Bad luck for them, eh? I got a really nice purple class mod myself.

Are those new Shift codes gonna expire? I'll just leave them be if they're gonna last, since my characters aren't that high leveled, but if they're just gonna expire...

I disagree, partially of course, the first doctor was just pure awesome!

I still like them, and he is awesome, but they're pretty laughable most of time. Fun to watch, but just not done very well at all. They also cranked out episodes like crazy, so it was kind of quantity > quality.

Grrrr... put some money on steam, and it locks me out of using the market for 7 days due to it being a "new payment method". And just before cardzzzz tomorrow too!

I'm going to assume naiyt is jshackles' successor, since SG1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Atlantis. ;)
Your opinion is wrong!!!!11! Atlantis was way better than SG1 they just got screwed on closing the series because it was cancelled.

I think that's mechrophilia.

What drove me nuts was (SPOILERY) the lack of a clear explanation of what the hell happened to GF and Earth in between 1 and 2. I probably haven't read enough wiki.
"Oh, thank God you're here! No time to explain what's going on -- you need to play with this robot dog!"

Eh, you're too young to have grown up watching them, even though we're on the wrong side of the pond for it. It's easy for folks who've only seen a few of the old serials and all of the new series episodes to criticize the original series as low-budget and cheesy, but like most everything it's a mix. Some of the old serials were outstanding adventures, some were explorations of interesting ideas of the sort that that other science fiction show didn't have the imagination to handle, and some were just dreadful. If you haven't seen the shows that were made in the 1970s and 1980s, you missed the Third through Seventh Doctor stories and that covers a LOT of territory.

Also, the first episode of the serial that was later known as "An Unearthly Child" is the best introduction to any science fiction series in the history of television (sadly, it goes downhill dramatically when the cavemen come into the picture, but damn was that first show great!).

I agree completely. While admittedly "low-budget" by today's standards, there are some really great stories in the old Doctor Who episodes. My favorites were the 4th and 7th doctor.

Also - Atlantis > SG1. Just sayin'.

I've watched all the modern Dr. Who through Tenement's rein, and I also went back and watched the first 4 Serials with William Hartnell. He is an interesting an enjoyable character but some of those stories are guilty of Dragon Ball Z levels of stretching. I listened to the Marco Polo audio + pictorial reproduction on one of the discs, it was barely an hour, It felt like a fairly complete story and when I looked it up it was originally SEVEN episodes.

And the correct answer is no, SG-1 did not go down in quality at the end because SG-1 ended in Season 8, it was followed by two seasons of the spin-off show Stargate: The Ori Chronicles, or that's how I think of it anyway.

I don't have a reference to understand what "Dragon Ball Z levels of stretching" actually means. If you're saying that the stories were often padded with nonsense to make the running time, that's a fairly universal consensus regarding any of the early stories that ran more than four episodes.

Also, FTFY.

My favorites were the 4th and 7th doctor.
For that run, mine too. I'm a big fan of Sylvester McCoy, who invested the character with an intriguing combination of goofiness and sinister otherworldliness (I think that's a word). His best stories are "Battlefield", "The Curse of Fenric" and "Remembrance of the Daleks" (maybe the definitive Dalek story). "Survival" was an unfortunate note for the series to go out on.

Don't worry - in addition to everything else I do, I also starred in Stargate Atlantis, Conan the Barbarian, and Game of Thrones.
Makes perfect sense.

Woah, not only is tomorrow free slurpee day (at participating 7-11s), but also possibly the start of the Steam Summer sale. So much to look forward to! :D

Should pick it up tomorrow if someone is rather than today. Get yourself a free slurpee (if in the US, otherwise it's November 7th) while there.

One more Borderlands 2 SHiFT code has been uncovered - this one was previously thought to be console-only:

5TCJT-FW6XX-W3SJJ-333JT-SKWT9

The following loot will be added to the first character you load after redeeming the code. It will be at your current level and it is really good stuff, unlike what they're giving away this week.

- Torgue shotgun (Purple)

- Leech Grenade (Legendary)

- Transformer Shield (Legendary)

Amazing post. I <3 HL1. Best mods of all time. So much time spent on NS, Sven, They Hunger, DoD, Firearms, etc, etc. I particularly love Sven Coop's horror type levels, RECO and Afraid of Monsters Cocyx come to mind, but Cocyx just recently shut down his sven coop adaptation of Aom and never released the server files. <//////////3

100's hours on NS siege maps. Too bad the new NS2 doesn't have siege maps.

big Doctor Who fan here but you guys probably already knew that by my avatar, I have only seen the Ecclestone, Tennant, Smith seasons and none of the classic doctor who series but I'll get to them soon, amazon prime has most of the older seasons on their streaming service but they are missing quite a few episodes here and there.

I was going to mention this, tomorrow is 7/11 day and they hand out free slurpees to celebrate, I was going to grab a steam card anyways might as well grab a free slurpee to go along with it

I was thinking earlier, "Any deal that goes up today just has sucky timing in relation to the sale tomorrow." But 75% off Alice is a great price and as low as it gets, pretty much.

I messed around with it and found it too dark for my tastes, but it seems very solid and intriguing for those who like dark games.

I've got Alice :MR on Origin. It's a good game, though a little long. I'm not sure I liked it enough to get it again on Steam.

Now, if they were throwing in the original along with it, I'd be all over the deal.

Cheapest it's been as far as I recall. I still need to play it, actually wait. I need to play through the original first, lol. I actually have the original on CD (given to me as a gift from a person who was getting rid of old games).
Might pick it up, hasn't gone much cheaper (and I believe the Steam version has never been cheaper, though I could be incorrect)
For what it's worth I played through it and really didn't enjoy it. Levels are about twice as long as they needed to be and feel like a huge grind, and there are a ton of little glitches that add up to one big headache. Really the only reason I'd recommend it is if you are a huge Alice in Wonderland fan and want to see how that world would look if it was put through a food processor (though again, I'm a huge Alice fan and couldn't wait to be done with it). So buy at your own risk, it really is a love it or hate it kind of game.

It only gets darker from there on, and to be quite honest I felt pretty sick near the end. It is a seriously twisted story, and that asylum bit...if I ever have to play through it again it will be to soon. The first level is also the best in terms of solid gameplay, so I'm not sure how good a judge of overall quality it is.

This Alice game looks meh, and I'm definitely not using up 8.5GB of my hard drive space on it. That's so big.

In other words 23.5 hours until the sale!
