What's in the PSP's PS Store (6/2/11): The Laxative Edition

Minis are an attempt to take on part of the success of the iPod App Store.

They've overlooked (perhaps intentionally) that their minis are 200-500% more expensive than most iPhone apps.

I wonder if they'll get away with that 8mb game being $5. I doubt it.

I went ahead about downloaded Prinny. $10 seemed like a good price to me.

What does file size have to do with price?

Edit: PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe is a great upgrade over the original since it feels like the two extra islands are better integrated into the campaign than the Encore island was for the original, along with extra stuff like online co-op and the medal challenge with more tangible rewards for the PSP (themes, wallpaper).

Crazy that I didn't even realize this until I got an email from my buddy asking about it.

I downloaded it last night and actually fell asleep reading the story part of the intro.

Going to try confirming what I got when I get home tonight. It'd be great if I got it 'cause I was seriously thinking of getting it if I liked the demo.

I'll be picking up Puzzle Quest and Prinny for sure when my PSP Go arrives from Amazon.com

Any idea when this sale ends? Next Thursday?
Yeah.
Thanks for all the effort you put into these posts, Frisky! :applause:

I'll likely download those two titled in preparation for my PSP Go's eventual arrival tomorrow. Seriously can't wait -- haven't gotten a new gadget since my PS3 last summer.

Damn, so Mana Khemia is normally going to be $30, and $15 is the sale price. Ugh, I don't really want to spend money on this when there will be a buy 2 get 1 at TRU in like 10 days, so may have to pass even if it is a sale price. I don't have any space on my memory stick anyway....

I'm going to guess that Square's titles hit PSN on November 1st. Why do I say that? Well...the PSPgo hits Japan on that date, so it makes the most sense.

Undead Knights seems like a decent game once you understand what you're doing. Played it for about 10 minutes after finally getting my PSP upto 6.1 firmware. Still wish it was some other game that I got for free though like PJM:D!

I'm actually very impressed with undead knights. Great graphics, impressive zombie troop control and just all around fun button mash action fest.

I woulda bought it but free is better :)

Yes, there are sales here and there. NIS is having a sale right now. Just go back a page or check the OP to see what's on sale/temp price drop this week.

Thanks for the great organized list, Tanuki. I picked up Prinny, fun platformer. Nice that its cheaper than UMD on Amazon!

fuck the IGN review honestly. Its a very basic fun button masher. Takes me back to the feel of a mix of a beat em up, with dynasty warriors play and overlord dashed in. I can see IGN's points, but they make the points kinda against what the game really isnt about.

From my limited time with it I thought the graphics were good, the combat was decent, the premise somewhat unique, and the possibility for fun gameplay is there. I really disliked how the camera & analog controls responded, the presentation outside of the graphics, and the type of story it will probably have.

But in the end it probably won't matter as I have other games I want to play and I'll probably never get to this one. Not a fault of this game but when compared to the best there is on PSP I just have to prioritize those first.

So, in other words, you liked it until IGN told you not to?
I guess I can say now what I was afraid to say earlier based on my limited time with the game... Undead Knights is not that good, not that good at all. http://psp.ign.com/articles/103/1030995p1.html#
Honestly I thought it sucked altogether, but I was trying to be nice to those who liked it. But since you gotta be a jerk there you go. Anyways, the positives about it that I gave were outweighed by the negatives. I'm not a fan of these types of games for the most part, so maybe those who like them more will find more enjoyment out of it than I will.

Yea, it was a little too simplistic for me, just from the demo. I could see enjoying it a little bit, but I doubt I'd ever actually pay for it.

Still looking for games to add to my very new, very small (2) collection.

what's the word on how long some of these lower prices on titles will last?? will it be until this thursday's store update? tempted to jump on GoW:CoO for that price..

For the NIS games it's 1 week starting from last week's update, probably the same for the other sales like D3 publisher's. GoW:CoO should be permanent price, but you can get the UMD cheaper at

TRU $5 on clearance (may be sold out but I saw some sitting behind the glass 1-2 weeks ago).

Amazon has it for $13.71 fulfilled by Amazon so free shipping. Used to also have a seller selling it at $13.25 but looks like that sold out.

Only the stuff that's listed under sales are on sale, which lasts until the next update unless otherwise noted. God of War's price can be safely assumed to be its normal price.

To distinguish between games that you can get a physical copy of versus those that are only available on PSN. That's how they're separated in the PS Store.

Toys R Us has GoW:CoO for $5 on clearance (possibly still in stock). Amazon has it for $13.71 FSS.

I heard Holy Invasion of Badman can be beaten in 30 minutes? Can anyone confirm how much playtime you can get out of this game.
I heard Holy Invasion of Badman can be beaten in 30 minutes? Can anyone confirm how much playtime you can get out of this game.
I'm going to modify the wording there for you J7. A single game of Badman can likely be beaten in 30 minutes.

HOWEVER, you are not going to beat it on your first try. And when you fail, you restart from level 1 again. I've probably gotten about 3-4 hours worth of gameplay out of it (only had it since Thursday) and it's a HARD game. Some of it has to do with luck, as well, but it's a really difficult game. You won't understand the subtleties of the game on your first try. And thus you will fail. You will probably fail like flaming wreckage falling from the sky of a midair collision between two airplanes.

My point is, I BELIEVE there's 20 levels to get through (maybe 10?) and I've been playing it almost non-stop since Thursday outside of when I'm at work. I have yet to make it past level 5 on a single play.

Oh, also, you can't save the game, so you have to actually beat it in one sitting. Again, it's a HARD GAME. (Worth it in my opinion, though, i enjoy it a lot despite my uber-fails)

^^ heck yeah! I was just deciding if this warranted it's own thread (I think pretty soon it may even get a Sticky b/c Amazon will likely reduce prices periodically, like some of the Summer of Arcade titles) If so, I hope you're in charge of it Frisky..ur doing a wonderful job w/ this thread.

I was coming to ask if you know of any good sites besides PS Blog to find info for upcoming thursday releases and these sales? I just like to know in advance, w/ Xbox you practically have a whole month laid out in front of you. I think the PSN will have weekly sales for probably the rest of the year. So knowing a couple days in advance could give fence sitters (like me) the opportunity to grab something, or wait for something on the next update.
Cool. Here's hoping Amazon has some Amazon PSN Store Launch sales!

Now if only you could access your PSN account on the web so you can queue up downloads from anywhere and not just your PS3/PSP...
I thought you could still buy them and download later?? It's not really 'queue-ing' but its the best we've got...or use Media Go...

I'm referring to lack of proper web integration a la XBL.

I want to be able to start a download, add credit or purchase things from PSN while I'm away from home via an Internet capable PC. As far as I know, Sony hasn't gotten around to doing that yet.

Amazon's system is just to generate a code which you need to add via the Account Management screen of your PS3 or PSP.

Deals on Amazon would go in the Deals forum, not in this forum.

Not really. Unless the publisher/developer announces it beforehand, like NIS, you won't know ahead of time what sales are coming.
Deals on Amazon would go in the Deals forum, not in this forum.
ha! yeah, its already in there! My bad, I guess this thread is more of a broad one for the PS Store, even though it does have 'deals' or sales at the very top to start out with. Still all very informative.

The REAL feature would be to allow remote start of PS3. (much like the way you can do it via your PSP) Not necessarily full-featured, but say, if I start up Media Go from my laptop while I'm away from home, allow me to "remote download" on my PS3. Utilize idle bandwidth at home, plus it'll be ready by the time I get home, to load onto my PSP, or install on PS3.

True, if you had Media Go, you could in theory download it on the spot, but a)that would work ONLY for PSP and NOT for PS3, b)what about situations where you're on the go/don't have a constant internet connection (i.e. in a Starbucks for 5 minutes, but not long enough for a full download), and c)if you're on a laptop without a power cord, you might not want downloads to throttle the bandwidth and reduce battery life...

I think if they implemented this kind of system, like you alluded to, Sony's PSN integration would be in much better shape. Especially if I could see (and easily navigate) a download history to re-download old PSP titles, etc. if I deleted them to make room for something else.

Does Badman have any modes other than story? This is going to be very tough for me to decide whether to buy or not, I don't think I'm going to. It's an awesome game but I need the funds for other games.

You probably know this, but you can redownload PSP titles you downloaded, right from your PC & I would imagine PSP too.

There's a training mode which starts off easy but teaches you to pay attention well. For instance, it notes that certain enemies (heroes) have certain patterns, and that you should watch for them as best you can. The reasoning being you can distract them on an alternate path at the last second if you know they tend to turn right vs. left at a fork.

The training/challenges themselves are really short, but some of them are pretty tough, since I'm still just learning the game.

Honestly, it's a game I'd buy at $10 but not $20, but it's definitely a game I'd fully recommend if you're up for a VERY STEEP CHALLENGE.

I bought it because I thought I would one day. And if I bought it at $20 in the future, I'd feel bad spending that much on it. But buying it at $10 I don't regret it.

Edit:I also have not tried the editor yet. I have no idea how it works, but I'm saving that for when I get through training, and possibly through the whole game, though I may get impatient and take a break from it, so I may play with the editor in that time.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/07/capcom-dates-promised-psp-umd-legacy-titles/

There are rumored release dates for the remaining Capcom UMD Legacy releases from a blog that's been taken down since then:

 • October 8: Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Dark Tower
 • October 15: Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max
 • October 22: Capcom Puzzle World
 • October 29: Maverick Hunter X
 • November 5: Megaman Powered Up
No prices, but they mentioned that the other few games that were on the original list have been $19.99.
