Suikoden V: Free artbook AND LE soundtrack preorder at ebgames (B&M, no online yet)

Thanks, OP! Guess I have more reason to preorder, then. Last time the artbook for Suikoden 4 was pretty good but an artbook and an LE Soundtrack? Sounds good to me!

All signs point to this LE "soundtrack" being of the 12 2-minutes tracks variety. Can anyone confirm otherwise?

Probably the same one the Japanese are getting in the LE next month.

Yay! Glad that we can get the preorder stuff on order this time around rather than the whole ordeal with the Suiko IV website and waiting for that damned wallscroll to finally arrive...

Hm... dosen't seem worth it, since Suikoden V will most likely take the nosedive in price that Suikoden IV did, and that Suikoden Tactics is on its way to experiencing.

Unless reviews are amazing, I'm going to pass, because ever since Suikoden 3 Konami lost its magic with this series.

the simple answer is that the director that worked on suikoden 1+2 didnt work on Suikoden 3 and 4.

This is the game that Suikoden III/IV were meant to be. It's going to be the best one since II.

Edit: And you want to preorder Legendia over this? Time to get your priorities in order.

I was only considering Legendia for the artbook... I'll probably just get both games when they are $30 and under, made that mistake with too many RPG's lately.

EDIT: Depends on the soundtrack, if it's a real soundtrack like NIS / Atlus provides or if it's just a sampler.

Yea, I'd love to have the artbook for this & Legendia, but it's just not worth it for games I only have marginal interest in and that will most likely drop in price quickly. I ended up paying $10 for both Suikoden IV and Tales of Symphonia. Looking at it like that, I gotta ask myself "is the artbook worth $40?". Simple answer - no.

Suikoden V is shaping out to be much more promising then IV... I'm still working my way through III and I love it... I still prefer the 2D versions though - here's hoping Konami or another publisher will bring the PSP versions to the US.

I wonder how many games you have to trade in for those "Free after trade in" offers???

I'm surprised that they're saying this about V when I heard the same thing said about IV, which is about as 3rd grade as a game can get without being rated lower.

Suikoden III is the best since Suikoden II, and, surprise surprise, it surpassed its predecessor. that's right. S III's the best in the series, best storyline, perhaps a slight worsening of the battle system (let's face it, it's not a huge difference, more strategic what with one magic per pair), and the best large scale battles in the series. i'm always defending S III, and rightly so. so many die hard 2D RPG fans heckling S III like it killed their mommies.

Suikoden 2 is far and away the best in the series. It built upon the story that began in 1 and went led the series to greatness. Suiken 3 was horrendous and I picked up IV yesterday, so I can get the story and ready for V. If V is awful, I'm giving up on the series, which in whole had only 1 great entry (Suikoden 2), and 1 good entry (Suikoden 1). There are better series out there, such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Lunar (although Dragon Song might of killed that), Wild Arms, Xeno, etc. to spend money on.

Suikoden 3 had a really good story, it was only marred by a horrible battle system, sub standard graphics, and a ton of lame characters.

I played the game all the way through because I enjoyed the story that much.

Good grief, what's w/ all these pre-order bonuses this month? My wallet is still bleeding from the Winter holiday season and is near the point of extreme hemorrhaging.

But I seriously hope Suikoden V is a turn around from the last few ventures. I've tried to get through Suikoden III two different times, and both times I couldn't last more than 10 hours. And I really loved Suikoden II. :whistle2:(

Im in the same boat, 1 thing the series has never disappointed with is the story (pending playing 4). Having a sub character, that really irritated players (I let opposing armies kill him) in the previous games be the main villian was a great idea and shows that the series strength is builidng upon the storyline in previous games. It worked for Lunar (I mean, come on, all the people who played Lunar 1 and 2 in order, especially on the Sega CD, how many of us were like oh shit when Ghalleon first walked through the door in Lunar 2? One of the best moments in RPG history period - your lucky you killed Aeries, Sephiroth!) and it works for Suikoden and GOlden SUn.

Read the very fine small print at the bottom, where it says "FREE after trade-in... ASK HOW!"

"Receive an extra 10% on every title you trade, no duplicates accepted, offer valid on pre-order only"

I do like that figure for pre-ordering Untold Legends 2... but after the first one, the second better be 10x better for me to throw down MSRP.

I agree completely. Suikoden 3 is the only game I can think of that consistently put me to sleep every time I played it. I got a little over 20 hours in and just absolutely could not keep playing it. I haven't played 4 yet, but I have it and will get around to trying it eventually. I'm actually very interested in the Tactics game, but will wait for a further price drop on it.

And I'm far away not a 2D purist. I love current 3D RPGs, that has zero to do with why I thought Suikoden 2 was a far superior game. Suikoden 3's battle system was horrible, and the world in comparison to 2 was just boring. Probably the main thing that killed it for me was the Trinity Sight system tho. Playing through the same story sections 3 different times is one of the worst ideas ever in an RPG imo. Ugh.

Espically when you hate the characters.. I couldn't stand Hugo and the duck, I really had to force myself to get through that part.

The story only gets interesting once Chapter 4 starts.

I thought that Suikoden 3 was good, but nothing to brag about. Since I haven't play Suikoden II and don't want to pay the premium prices that people are charging on Ebay, I'm hoping that the release of Suikoden I & II on the PSP will drop PS1 prices down. I can't seem to convince myself any console game is worth greater than $85.

My EB rarely gets bonuses in, but I'll have to ask, since I'd definitely want this.
Espically when you hate the characters.. I couldn't stand Hugo and the duck, I really had to force myself to get through that part.

Argh. I'm going have Legendia and MGS3:S pre-order, and KH2 comes out not too long after either. Looks like I need to choose my purchases this time around.

I don't think I even have enough time to play all these games.

Hmm - didn't Suiky Tactics have the soundtrack listed as a preorder, and then they just tossed it in with the game? That'd be nice for this one.

Personally, I couldn't stand III, never opened IV, but V sure is looking hot. Here's some trailers:

http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2158

Graphics look like a million bucks, and the music is almost certain to be good. From some of the other trailers I've seen, it looks like they've fixed some of the flaws of the last 2 games (back to 6 people teams, duels look way more interesting and the war battles seem to be more interactive).

Then again, I was bamboozled by the Xenosaga II trailer, so maybe I should STFU.

Dave

Well, for Suiko Tactics they threw the soundtrack in as a limited edition thing for the preorders, though I don't know if latter copies were just the game only. Suiko V looks like it's good to be ace though...

I hope so, I couldn't stand Suikoden III's soundtrack.

Also, do we know if the original Japanese voice acting will be included?

hopefully this will be good I have to agree about SUikoden 3 although its getting rare I found the soundtrack to be very boring, very repetitive during battles also.

Btw I found a couple of SUikoden 3 during the game crazy sale for 12.99 used it was beat up scratches disc and stuff so I had to pass on that one.
SAVER doesn't work with new games?

I loved the promo soundtrack compliation for IV. That music is freakin' great.
My guess, is if you wait for a few more weeks, you may get free 3 day shipping or something like that, hopefully the extras as well.

But if you really wanted to, you could preorder it with a cheap preowned item to get free saver, atleast I think it can work with preorders.

Edit: I've only personally played through 1, so far keep meaning to play through 2,3,4 and tactics, but never get around to it.

I've dabbled a bit in all of them, though I vaguely remeber 2, so I must not have played too much, but heres my take on the series,

Suikoden - Good pace for most of the game, only tedious part, IMHO, is walking long distances early on in the game. Thank god for teleport later.

Suikoden 2 - Vague memory, so nothing to really comment on right now.

Suikoden 3 - When played through correctly, there is a certain order, this game is fun and less repetitive. Only thing I really hate about this is the end where you make the decision and occassionally you lose a guy and it doesn't tell you and when you get to the end (my bro has beaten all of them so far...I think, I know 1-3 for sure) you end up not getting the 108 stars.

Suikoden 4 - Started off really disappointing, since you couldn't get anything special from completing 3. And add to it the sailing part and its not really fun. If they took out the forced sailing, this wouldn't be too bad of a game, the sailing just made it tedious for me, like the sailing in Sid Meier's Pirates (still a fun game, just take it in doses).

Suikoden Tactics - Fun take on the series, I enjoyed it and need to pick a copy of this up for myself.

Just curious, what stystem was teh used game for, as original GB and possibly GBC games don't work for some reason.

I added a game and saver works for it.

Thats odd.

I played about 15 mins of Suiko 4 and so far im not impressed, of course I will try to finish the game. I really loved the 3, but a lot of Suikoden fans disliked the trinity system.. for an RPG fan I think Suikoden 3 is the best of the bunch, but for the Suikoden fans the 2nd is the best. I was really hoping for a $40 price tag on part 5 but its listed at $50, even with the artbook/soundtrack Its not worth it for me.

Suikoden 4 sucked.

Freakin, the boat travel times were soooo stupid. Made me give up on the game right there.

I tried, I really did, to enjoy the game. *sigh*

So, does Five tie in to Four at all? The only reason I'd play four is to get to know characters.

Or maybe I'll just read the strategy guide/Game faq to get caught up. =D

and the thing is, by the time S III was released there were many many more review mags and sites, so the sampling of scores is more representative of the gaming population at large.

Ahh, didn't you know that people you will never meet, that review games, have the exact same taste as you and everyone else who plays videogames.

Its kind of unfair to say Suioden 3 is the highest rated Suikoden game, as its got nearly 70 and 60 reviews more than 1 and 2 respectively.

I adored Suikoden 1. I'm a leveling up nut. I found a used copy of Suikoden 3 for $5 a while back, but haven't started it yet. Some people say its one of the better ones, so I'll have to start it soon, but I have to finish others first.

The free artbook and soundtrack sound cool which would be the reason to preorder. However the game got lukewarm reviews on OPM, as did Suikoden Tactics which I'm guessing will drop in price to at least $20 within the year just like the Suikoden 4 did.

Hmm. How is EB about returns? I know it's shady but I already have this preordered at Gamerush but want the book. Does EB make you return the promo items if you return a game? If I did do this would they give me back the money on my credit card or just give me return credit?

2, 1, 3, 4

One was great. Two improved upon everything in one. Three was really funny/cute/charming, had a pretty good story and nice characters; the only down side was the pairs, but they weren't horrendous. Four was pain. The characters were dull, the towns were boring (Both of them  ), the story was hackneyed, there was no real developement in ANY of the 108 stars or even the villains. It lacked a soul.

I didn't even know 5 was coming out so soon. :bouncy:

Really? I've been checking everyday and Suikoden V wasn't getting pulled up in the Gamestop.com search until just now. As far as preordering, they don't charge you til they ship them and it never hurts to get first in line if you want the freebies anyway...
