Defense Grid + DLC. Yah me.

Forgive me, for I have committed the cardinal sin of a CAG: buying a Steam game at full price.  (technically, I did purchase it from JakeNome to save a few bucks but there was no official discount)  I haven't done that since being disappointed by ME3 and Diablo 3... but I just could not wait to play Brothers: Tale of Two Sons!  Despite the ridiculous name (good to know that these brothers also happen to be sons), I thoroughly enjoyed this game from start to finish.  The game is not particularly long (my Steam profile says I played it for a little over 4 hours), but the gameplay never disappointed me.  While the game is streamlined, there is also several chances of exploration, and you can interact with the world in fun and unique ways that never appear again.  The many small side-stories are inferred through body language and context; in fact, I quite enjoyed the fairy-tale-esque story much more than I had expected to.  The "single-player-coop" gameplay also grew on me, especially as it tied to the story so well: you control each brother rather awkwardly at first as you get used to controlling two characters at the same time, and by the end you will be cooperating with yourself like a well-oiled machine :)  There are other ways in which this unique brand of control scheme play into the story, but it's much better to experience for oneself.

I can't believe I'm going to say this but... great game, even at full price.  Gasp!

Introducing Trade Offers
SEPTEMBER 4TH, 2013 - THE GISH

Today we’re shipping a new feature we’re calling Trade Offers that allows you to send a prepackaged trade to a friend. It’s similar to regular trading, except you propose the items for both sides. You select the items you’re willing to give up from your inventory and what you’d like to receive from your friend, and send it off. Your friend will receive a notification in the green drop down and can then choose to accept, decline, or make a counter offer. Unlike regular Steam Trading, you don't need to both be online at the same time. Plus, trade offers can be sent and received using a web browser.

You can create an offer from a few places: from the Trade Offers page in your Inventory, from a friend’s Inventory, and from any of your badge pages you can send a friend a trade offer based on the trading cards you still need collect.

Here are a couple of frequently asked questions:

Who can I send an offer to?
Currently you can send trade offers to your friends, though we may expand this in the future. Note that trade offers respect Inventory privacy settings, so if your friend has their inventory set to “Private” you cannot send them a trade offer.

Can I send more than one offer with the same items?
Yes, you can send more than one offer containing the same items. When an offer is accepted any other pending offers with the same items will expire.

How long is a trade offer good for?
Trade offers automatically expire after 2 weeks. You can see the offer expiration date at the bottom of a pending offer. You can cancel any pending offers from the Trade Offers page.

Visit your Trade Offers page to try it out now or read more Frequently Asked Questions.

Hmmm, now this has got me interested.

Anyone ever play Lord of the Rings Conquest? How does this compare? Loved Conquest.
Nope. I haven't played that game.

The video on the store page tells you pretty much what you need to know. You can choose from 3 characters (not from the books) and then you brawl through areas, optionally looking for hidden stuff, and leveling up. The story is loosely intertwined with LoTR and you encounter some of those characters along the way.

At 75% off I was pretty pleased, personally.

I have so many untouched LOTR games in my backlog, it ain't even funny:

LOTR: Conquest (Retail);

LOTR: War in the North (Steam);

and LOTR Online - Collector's Ed (Retail).

I want this merely because I'm a LotR fan, but I'm not sure I $5 want it :whistle2:k

I also just started playing LotR:O (way late on this one I know), so maybe I will hold off on this...
There's only 2 reasons anyone should get this IMO.. which would be if you're a LotR fan, or if you love co-op games. The gameplay isn't very good, it's pretty generic but it's ok in co-op. The story is average, but LotR fans may appreciate it a lot more than I did. As a singleplayer game, I'd personally skip it unless you really like LotR and want to play through it for the story.

Ah.

And no to Clerks 2. Why, should I?
Well, I hope you seen Clerks 1, first. I thought both movies were funny as hell.

Anyways, there's a scene in Clerks 2, where the characters have a debate over what's the better trilogy of movies - LOTR or Star Wars.

I was referring to that scene, namely.

So, over my head reference, my bad.

Saw Clerks waaaay back in the day. Enjoyed it. Haven't found Kevin Smith's more recent work as funny as I used to. Though I think that has more to do with my sense of humor changing through the years than anything else. I think I only own like 5 comedies. Let's see, Clue, The Jerk, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Dogma and Hot Tub Time Machine. So, yeah, I do have some KS in there. Not sure if Zombieland counts solely as a comedy.

Not Blazing Saddles?!?!?! But The Jerk does rank up there as one of the best of all times.

Oh, man - Jay and Silent Bob was hilarious.

Dogma was pretty funny, too.

I liked Zombieland: that's one of the genre-bender flicks - taking on comedy, action, and zombie genres. ;)

I still ain't seen Blazing Saddles.

{hangs my head in shame}

I loved Robin Hood: Men In Tights and Spaceballs.

EDIT:

I ain't seen The Jerk, either.

Alright then, I'm definitely holding out for <$3. I am a huge LotR fan, but would be playing it single player which doesn't sound too worth it. Also as I said playing the LotR MMO and actually rather enjoying it despite it's age, so I probably don't need another Middle Earth fix for a while.

If you say star wars I will jump through my computer and slap you :boxing:

For movies - LOTR all the way.

That series did pretty good, when Two Towers is my least favorite LOTR movie and that one was pretty good.

I don't know if we're counting The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey here, which I did like - but I preffered Two Towers over that.

While I liked all of the Star Wars movies, Episode 1 (Phantom Menace) and Ep 2 (Attack of the Clones) were...just nowhere as good as the other 4.

For video games - Star Wars.

And that's b/c of both KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2.

You got that vibe from kitty's post? I'm bloody clueless about how that's considered a dig. 8-[

"A girl said words! She must be on the rag!"
I love hate how when a girl says something guys find threatening (whether she says something intelligent, funny, or on point), it must be when "Aunt Flo" is in town, yet somehow, guys never need a crutch or excuse as to why they are d!cks all the time of the month, every month.

P.S. Speaking of Flo, anybody absolutely love Flo from the Progressive commercials?

Doh! I forgot about Mel Brooks. Yeah, I do have both Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs. OK, so I have more comedies than I thought. But, in all fairness, they're still only like 1% of my collection.

And to have not seen either The Jerk or Blazing Saddles... Mongo (aka. Webster's dad) commands you to see either or both immediately, so that you may find and appreciate your own Special Purpose.

LOTRO is way better than any other LOTR game made. Plus it's 99% free. Waiting for <$3 sounds like the best thing to do.

If any CAGs want to start playing LOTRO, join the Dwarrowdelf server and send me a PM. I can help you get started :)

Those two movies don't make Brooks' top 3, to be honest. Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and The Producers are absolutely brilliant and, while most everything Brooks has done is very good and funny (save Dracula: Dead and Loving It), they are not at the level of those three. I could make an argument that all three are among the best ten films ever.

Zombieland is a comedy. A good one too, but not as good as Shaun of the Dead.
Well, sure, but it's not like much of anything is as good as Shaun of the Dead, either as a comedy or as a zombie movie.

LOTRO is a great MMO, but War in the North is a great ARPG.

And I'll actually take exception to that remark again, because Battle for Middle-Earth I and II were fantastic RTS games.

War in the North is nothing like LOTRO, but I was playing a lot of LOTRO when I started it and it was kinda cool to be running around in places I knew from that game in WitN; it gives you a different perspective on the geography of ME.

It's well-worth $5, speaking as someone who beat it twice on PC and subsequently bought the CE on PS3 for $40.

Here's my review if you want a counterpoint to spoder.

Disclaimer: I enjoyed Dark Messiah of Might & Magic and this is not far from that tree.

I actually played the game mostly in SP and had a terrific time. The action was good enough to hold my interest, the scenery was great, and there was enough exploring to keep things interesting. In fact, some of the hidden stuff can't be found in one SP playthrough as it requires specific class skills to uncover. I very nearly restarted the game with a new class as soon as I was done because it was so surprisingly good.

Don't get me wrong - this isn't going to be anyone's absolute favorite ARPG. It just isn't innovative enough. But it's REAL competent and it's LoTR, which goes a long way for me.

To each his own, but I just wanted to point out that, to me, it was way better than just a throwaway title with a good license.

Does anybody have or know of anybody who has any Skullgirls coupon?  Would like to use one before they and the DLC promo expire tomorrow.

Thanks for the LOTR: WOTN recommendation. That game's been backlogged for a bit for me.

And BTW - I also liked Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. While it wasn't great on the story and character factor, the game's combat was absolutely awesome. I really like Arkane - they've done some underrated games like Dark Messiah and Arx Fatalis; and then of course there's the awesome Dishonored.

Oi, way to take it to some extremes there. Lets not pretend people don't like to once in a while in a thread look back at times like these where there was a sharp drop off after buying something. Stuff like that is why you have lurkers and not contributors (overblown responses). Thanks for the condescension though, appreciated.
Next time, just reply to her with [customspoiler= this. ]

She was obviously just kidding around, anyways. If you're new here, try not to take much of what anyone on this thread says seriously (besides game recommendations, which are always pretty solid).
