Yeah, I get that. Sorta the same way I look at marriage. (FYI: I'm not married.)

(FYI Pt.2: I just bought Dead Rising 2 Complete because...masochism.)
It's not a bad deal. I picked it up for $10 during the last Winter sale. The game is fun enough that you'll eventually want to replay instead of going through vanilla again you can do OTR and have a slightly different experience.

So, no thoughts on Mafia 2?
I thought that I got it for free, then I realized I forgot to send in the rebate form. Then I thought I got it for free again and I did. Then I thought I got it for free again, but I chose Civ V instead. I think I should get around to playing Mafia II. That's pretty much my thoughts on the matter, sorry.

;)

It's good and enjoyable, though not really great. Though the world is wonderfully created, it's a very linear game and you don't get to explore it much. There's enough variety in the missions to keep it interesting. Combat is solid. The story and protagonist are kinda "meh"; the first one was far more enjoyable in that regard.

The one truly great moment in this game is a nod to the first one.

Anyone still waiting on their Golden Joysticks freebie?

Hi folks,

We've had a massive response to our free game offer, and we want to ensure that everybody who has already registered their votes receives their free game. As a result, we are temporarily suspending the promotion registration.

If you've not yet submitted votes to CVG's site and completed your claim for a free game ongoldenjoysticks.greenmangaming.com we can no longer guarantee you will receive a free game.
It sounds like if you've already registered you should be okay.

It's like all of Telltale's work, seasonal. I have the game and beat part 1 today. Part 2 comes out I believe in November.

While it might be jumping the gun to say it's GOTY material, I will say part 1 is probably Telltale's best work to date, and if the level of quality lasts all five parts, then I can say it's defiantly GOTY material. While the Walking Dead is a offshoot of the comics/tv show, Fables is actually canon with characters straight from the comics.
I also finished the 1st episode of The Wolf Among Us last night and I agree with you. I loved the noirish take, the visuals are impressive and the characters and voice acting are very engaging.

So this is unrelated to DR2, but does anyone else really like writing steam recommendations? I know a lot of people don't do it, or just do one sentence "gam b god" type ones, but I love reading ones from people that actually put some effort into them and find they definitely make me want to play a game more.
i do short conise review but i acutally do bigger review on steamcritics

So if I gave up on the first Assassin's Creed an hour in because I didn't want to ride my horse everywhere am I not going to make it through Mafia 2? Sitting and watching scenery go by is not gameplay in my book.  Had a problem with this in Wind Waker as well, although I got through most of that one.

you get a horse in assassin's creed 1?

I feel the same way regarding Steam recommendations. Been trying to make an effort to put up some reviews on GMG to earn some credit lately too.

My recommendations are pretty evenly split between concise and a bit wordier. I'd really like to take the time to do some more.

There are also a couple in there I've considered following up on, but it feels weird leaving a comment on my own review. :)

Haha, I loved having a horse to ride! Assassin's Creed 1 was one of the first games I had on my 360, so I definitely pushed through that whole game.

Deadly Premonition is supposedly going up for preorder today at some point, I may jump on it after I check some prices with certain, uh, acquaintances in the trading thread. I don't mind paying full price (if it's $30 or less) for this game though.

I emailed Capcom about this, this is the reply:

Hello,

Thanks for contacting Capcom!

As GFWL will be closing down, the client will be removed from games and you will still be able to play your games.

Unfortunately we do not have any details yet of how this will be done and when.

Regards,

Carlos G.

If true, Capcom will be removing GFWL from all of their games.

After visiting the main cities in AC1 you get fast travel from & to your base (Massyaf) relatively early in the game - you no longer have to stare at the horse's ass bouncing along (unless you want to collect all the kingdom flags, etc.) Not that this makes it a much better game...

Interesting.

I'm assuming the pull of the announcement means that there is some sort of negotiations going on in the background by various retailers and publishers--perhaps we'll see Steam step in with some sort of solution that works to keep alive all games with GFWL.

Hmm. Didn't know that. I might be tempted to go back and revisit, because I did like the setting and story. But I've got AC2 in my backlog as well, so I'll probably just go ahead and start with that one...if I ever get around to it.

Is Valve just getting keys for their weeklong sales from indie bundles?

Or are they actively choosing these games to give devs some comparison data between a featured Steam sale and bundle sales?

Wow, that turd is not only still on Steam, but, hahaha, list price is $25? Wow Gaben, such a whore.
Actually, its normal MSRP is $20. The publisher must've raised the price for the sale, which makes little sense...

It's also CHEAPER to buy the 1C Racing Collection, which includes Death Track Resurrection, A.I.M. Racing and Streets of Moscow.

Mafia 2 is decent, but it's super streamlined. There's almost nothing to do outside of the story missions. From what I can remember, aside from the story missions, you can use the car crusher and rob shops to get extra money, buy some clothes (selection is very limited), or try to collect all of the playboy magazines and the wanted posters. That's pretty much all there is to the game. The story is ok, but nearly every other sandbox game I've ever played has a better story than Mafia 2. Maybe if the story were fleshed out a bit more I would've liked it more.. but just as it started getting good, it ended lol.

I got it for free so I can't really complain much.. and as a free game, it's a very nice deal, but if I had paid more than $5 for it I would've regretted it.

Mafia2

there isnt a lot to do for side quests at all. the game is a story driven game set in an open world.

the city is well detailed, the gunplay is well done enough, and it moves at a good pace.

This is from my 2 year or so ago impressions from my play through.

I enjoyed the game and recommend it for what it is.

I, for one, love generally linear games with a great story and decent acting. I really liked the first Mafia game and, though I've only played about 30 minutes of the second one (it's sitting in my backlog but near the top) I expect to like it as well. I played GTA3 and could never see what excited people about being able to drive around and run over pedestrians (I'm still planning to go back and finish that game one of these years, still have it installed). Linearity really gets a bad rap these days, given the limited freedom all these "sandbox" games give you anyway.

I love linear games, but Mafia 2 doesn't have a lot going for it. The graphics and scenery are nice, and the story is ok, but there's really nothing else to it. I wish I'd grabbed the first Mafia when it was on Steam, I haven't played through that to compare it to the second game.. but I've heard the story in the first game is superior.

Talisman Prologue is on Steam now.

If you send proof of purchase to the dev (can be proof of owning the Indie Gala Colossus Bundle), you'll get a free Steam key from the dev.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/247000/discussions/0/810938082499793021/#c810938082539080263

If you send an email to [email protected] and include your Prologue purchase details, then we'll send you a key.
Note: All I had to do to get a Steam key was take a screenshot of my Indie Gala bundle page with the Desura key showing. I didn't need a "receipt".

EDIT: Dev has decided to stop responding to emails, now he's going to try to distribute the Steam keys through Desura.

Is it necessary to seek out Playboys? I'm not into top-heavy bright-eyed blondes sans ass and thighs.

Sengoku, which may or may not have a subtitle, is 75% and now features cards.

Sengoku could have been a good game. It's not but, hey, there must be a 1000+ medieval mods for it, right???

app id: 73210

Yes, HOW DARE THEY SELL A GAME THAT WAS INCLUDED FOR FREE WHEN OTHER PEOPLE BOUGHT THE GAME.

Christ.
I browsed that thread, looks like they're mad cause they were told they have to pre-order at full price to get the bonus game. Maybe they would have waited for a price drop otherwise. I think there's always a chance and even likelihood that a pre-order bonus will be for sale later on, they should have seen it coming.

Frozen Endzone had its first public unveiling at London’s Eurogamer Expo earlier this month.
Exposing a game to the wider world is always stressful: not only did we have to cope with a barrage of unfettered opinion but also with managing the torrent of gamers, journalists, children and passive-aggressive bears (yes really) which threatened to swamp our humble creation.

As a pro developer, aren't unfettered opinions exactly what you should want?

As you do know, I think - I got a bunch of Steam recommendations.

I love writing - It is one of MysterD's hobbies & passions.

I also like to write my "1st Impressions" and much more long-winded reviews & opinions on my XFire Gaming Blog.

Expect soon some "1st Impressions" on Resident Evil 6 PC.

EDIT:

To add about Res Evil 6 PC, when I eventually do a review for it, I might do it actually review it campaign-by-campaign - and then do an overall review. B/c it is one of those games w/ VERY polarizing reviews and people w/ all kinds of opinions on, so it might be worth it for me tackle each one 1st separately - and then do an overall view.
