I don't know a whole lot about Contrast, but that's all I need to hear to know I have to play it.
It received a lot of attention and praise at E3 this year. The shifting between a 3D world and a 2D shadow world is something that captured my attention. I like games with unique offerings, plus the whole vaudeville environment looks pretty fresh too. It received enough praise for me to make the jump, although it doesn't come out until Nov. 15th.

So since Halloween is approaching, I think everyone should post their favorite scary/horror game.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl

Not a traditional horror game, more a post apocalyptic, but it definitely has many parts that if played in a dark room, well, I hope you don't have heart problems. Plus there are mods to make it harder/scarier.
favorite horrific game

wait for it

Well, so far my lawyers are immortal and I cook meth on a moon base. :D
same here, plus I'm making a billion dollars a second, now to look for that cash out button. :bouncy:

Wtf, I've already bought the GOTY and complete edition of this.

My preference would be for complete bundles, but really, a mass of random keys for a few bucks would probably be just fine too. I got him to buy the humble weekly, and the current humble bundle, and he's on the fence for the latest IG. Most of the Trade/Sell thread is jokers trying to sell bundle games for a buck each.
You must check out my International Eradication of Poverty sale here http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/307615-steamorigindesura-etc-tradesellbuy-thread/?p=11139982

inb4 spoder: Eleusis is now greenlit (what a dumb word). If you got it in Groupees BM8:

sweet, puts me over 800 games on Steam.

Sunasun, Mind Link!! Yo, we should form the CAG Steam Police and arrest people and hit them hard with nightsticks for trying to sell free games on here. This shit needs to stop, who's with me!
Do we get immunity from silencings? If so, I'm in. ;)

Have Civ V

Want Bioshock Infinite

joking of course

if you have a good pc wii u is a better buy than a xbone or ps4 imo.

vast majority of good  ps3 / 360 games came to pc with superior versions. good wii u games will be few and far between but they're never ever coming to pc and wii u can be had cheap as fuk. i'd much rather play a new smash bros over halo/ uncharted.

Pretty much my thoughts. Exactly why Wii U is the only "next gen" console I know I'm going to get, for now.

The Wolf Among Us looks awesome, but the episodic release schedule kind of throws me off the scent of buying it. Looks like the release schedule is one episode every two months or so until the Summer of 2014.

I think I might have to wait until at least a few more episodes are released before I jump on this one. Am I alone or crazy on this assessment? I just think the anticipation after finishing the first episode only to wait a month or two before getting the next episode would kill me. Plus I'd probably forget the choices I made and have to start over again. :whistle2:k

Agreed, I can't stand episodic release games. I'll just wait on it for a good deal. I wasn't too excited for this, as I was underwhelmed by The Walking Dead (I know, I'm a horrible person), but the more I hear about this the more interested I am. I just think the premise is sooo much more interesting than zombies.

Platformers, to me, are games that are great to unwind or play if I have a spare half hour to pass or something, because they tend not to be too plot heavy or whatnot. BTdubbs, seeing as it's your favorite genre and all, have any platformer recommendations that maybe went under the radar/were underrated?
Unfortunately most of what I would recommend aren't on PC (at least not officially). If you only play one platformer in the next decade, make it Rayman Origins (or Legends, but I unfortunately haven't played it yet), it's gorgeous and extremely well designed all around. Otherwise I feel a lot of PlayStation exclusives are underplayed (though perhaps not underpraised), with the Sly Cooper series and Sound Shapes coming to mind first (both easily in my all time favorites).

I've already mentioned Rogue Legacy, and I would actually suggest that double to you since you've mentioned liking roguelikes. Psychonauts, Pac-Man World 2, and (big surprise) Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom (note: PC version is an abomination) are very solid and just a ton of fun.

Closure is more puzzle oriented, but it's really cool for what it is. I haven't finished either but I loved what I've played of both Braid and Thomas was Alone, which you probably have from Humble Bundles. I can't think of too many under the radar hits unfortunately, but I've got at least a good dozen or two in my "must play" list, so maybe that will change in a week or two (currently I'm playing Scarygirl, but it isn't exactly extremely praiseworthy to my dismay).

EDIT: I can't believe I forgot it before, but my underplayed GOTY (I'm not sure it was actually released this year, but it doesn't matter) is hands down Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack. I absolutely adored that game and would recommend it to anyone (see Steam recommendation for more) ^_^

Did you pad your playtime by snapping dazzling pics in stunning 480i?
Wind Waker actually supported progressive scan, and still looks freaking amazing for when it was released (that art style is ageless). No widescreen though :whistle2:(

Mmm... I love Platformers as well.  [Edit: Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack is an awesome game.]

I finally finished sorting my Steam library for the first time (Woo!) into about 26 different game genre categories ("Where'd that damn GAME go now!?"). That was a fun thought provoking exercise in trying to determine what genres and sub genres fit each game best. It's pretty sweet once it's all organized though. Or until I get tired of closing categories...

I wish there was a 'close all categories' command within Steam, because searching tends to open several categories and doesn't close them after. I guess that's both good and bad.

I used Wikipedia's video game genres article to help organize with some tweaks. Plus the depressurizer program worked wonders to help make this whole process much easier. Thanks to those several CAGs who mentioned this program.

Same here, I'm waiting til the full thing is available. I think I waited til episode 4 of Walking Dead was out before buying.

Yeah, waiting on both that and Kentucky Route Zero. *shrug* I do the same thing with t.v. shows normally too. No need to wait for the cliffhanger to resolve if the entire series is already complete.

That's my problem with The Walking Dead. It's a mix of a generic Zombie plot and a soap opera together pretty much. The Wolf Among Us hits it right because the subject material is awesome. I was also forced to buy The Wolf Among Us at launch. If not, it would be spoiled to me anyway, lol.

Exactly. I really like Nintendo franchises and there's nowhere else to play them. However, the Wii U has left me kinda cold since its launch and I'm not sure they can turn that around. Not that they can't do that, of course, since they were able to do just that with the 3DS.

BTW, I got me a 3DS XL this week and I'm loving it so far. The library is pretty good and there a few downloadable games that are very interesting.

It depends on what kind of games you like. I haven't seen Nintendo come out with anything in probably ever that isn't a platformer, shooter, or sports game. Maybe they'll break the mold with this new hardware, but I think that risks alienating their existing userbase. Personally I'd take another Last of Us or Beyond over a Mario or Sonic anything. While there have been a lot of cross-platform releases of late (and that's a good thing), the PS3 has a lot of exclusives that are likely to never be ported to PC. XBOX systems have few true exclusives because Microsoft also likes getting money from PC gamers.

That said, I don't have money to be buying new hardware, so I'm not getting a next-gen anything.

I definitely agree that the PS has had the best exclusives dating back even to the PS2.  That said, I think the appeal of Nintendo games is way underrated by some.  I have a 3DS to scratch that itch, though I would still consider a WiiU or Wii for some of the first party titles.

Never consider a Civ package to be complete unless the next numbered version is out.
No. Never consider a Civ complete unless you have kidnapped Sid Meier and are holding him hostage. Even then, you better keep a live CCTV feed trained on him at all times lest he slip some faction skins or music out while your back is turned.

Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Tales of Graces, the Dragon Quest series, the Rune Factory series, and the Fire Emblem series are all Nintendo platform-exclusive RPGs on Wii. You might be missing out on Nintendo's first-party games that you seem to dislike (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Pokemon, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, etc.) but their systems get plenty of third-party exclusives as well.

Tales of Graces got ported to PS3 as Tales of Graces F and Muramasa got ported to Vita as something something.

edit: Muramasa Rebirth. godddamn me and fact checking

Just finished staring at a windows 8.1 update screen for an hour so I don't have time to do this properly.

Well, that's the other thing--I'm not a JRPG fan, at all. Probably the only JRPG that I will ever play is No Ni Kuni and that's just because it's done with Studio Ghibli animation. If they make a Howl's Moving Castle RPG, I'd probably play that too.

Speaking of the dailies, anybody know why they're still selling Fallen Enchantress AND FE: Legendary Heroes? Just so Brad Wardell can bank more phat loot?

Had an update for both Arkham games. I only started Asylum and GFWL is gone. I'm guessing City is the same. Is there any way to get it back? Wish they would warn us about removing features before doing so.

you are the first person i've seen that wants gfwl back :p

i noticed arkham city goty appeared in my library

is it free weekend? does anone know? i don't see anything on the steam news page

Same reason I can't understand why you have such poor taste in games~
There is literally nothing about your own stated tastes in games that could lead any person to believe you would have the slightest interest in or affinity for Deathspank.

Outside of you being grumpy all of the time and Deathspank being developed by @GrumpyGamer.

They finally removed GFWL from City? That is great but unfortunately I don't own the GOTY version, I believe they weren't going to remove it from regular edition. I got the Asylum update tho.

Ahhh I was hoping they would upgrade regular users to GOTY but I figured there was almost zero chance. If true I feel like an idiot for buying a lot of the DLC and not even playing it yet. Will check my library right now.

No, I still have regular edition. :(

Found a statement from the publisher I guess, that you can't continue your old save file after the update.

They did this the last time it was on sale as well, whole lotta people in the forum raged.
I kinda regret preordering ES. They did this last summer sale. Granted the dlc is new back then but now.. There is no reason todo it this time other that greed. I bet even the gold edition is cheaper than the dlc. Way to go treating people that supported them from the start.

I really like that thus far, all games with GFWL have been getting matching sets of Steam achievements when they make the transition. Has me glad I hadn't gotten around to starting some (Bioshock 2), but I think I'm going to end up having to replay others if this trend continues. (Not that I ever need an excuse to replay Bulletstorm, should it get GFWL removed as well

My mistake, I set my library to ALL and it shows GOTY as a separate title that I own. I was looking at my installed game and thinking it would transform into GOTY.

Cool but still feel like an idiot for buying that DLC. I got Nightwing, Robin, and Harley Quinn packs, and I thnk the Batman skin pack also.

Gonna download GOTY version now!
