This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

Yo dudes, what's a cool upgrade for my PC that costs $50-100, I can't think of anything but a new controller and I don't think now's a good time to buy one with Xbone possibly getting full PC support or not. Somebody asked me what they should get me for Xmas and I have no ideas. :( I also don't need a mouse or keyboard.

More on-topic, I've been going back and forth on getting Castlevania for $7 from the trade thread but I think I can stand waiting for closer to $5.
Webcam maybe?

That's a good idea but I've been having trouble with headphones lately, too uncomfortable. I use some earbuds which are good enough. I tried these Sony Pulse Elites a few months ago that sounded real nice but felt real bad.
What other headsets have you used? There are a few out there that are lightweight and fit comfortably on any size head, like my giant casaba melon.

If you don't want a regular controller, maybe a speciality one like a fight stick, racing wheel, etc that would likely not be supplanted by the Xbone controller getting support.

Maybe an external HDD? I use one for some games. Some will tell you not to, but it's worked fine for me, though I generally keep more backlog type stuff on it.

Nothing really. I used to use this Sennheiser one but I started wearing glasses in 2007 when I got a HDTV (dat pixels) and the stems cut into the headphone pads. I haven't tried anything but the Pulse Elite since then.

I thought about getting a new internal hard drive... Don't need one yet but in a few months I might.

For headphones at just under $100** I recommend:

Audio Technica AD700 (open back) excellent positional audio, very comfy, not that portable, highly recommend if you're your into FPS or other uses where positional audio is important. I keep this at home for some audio work and some gaming (usually use speakers for gaming, unless I want full immersive).

Audio Technica M50s* (closed back) solid all round headphone, very comfy, swivel cups - portable, one of the best headphones for passive sound isolation. I drag these around everywhere.

Both of these work well for those with large brains (or just large skulls). I've owned both for several years.

*the M50 is the same but with a coiled cord, but unless you're DJing, go with the straight cord on these.

Edit: I can wear both of these with glasses comfortably.

**On sale, of course.

You should check out the SteelSeries Siberia V2 headset. I wear them with glasses and they are super comfy.

On a sale note, the daily deals have been pretty good if you don't already own something from it. I'll probably end up buying Shadowrun before I think about it more.

please vote for Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, its one of the handful of games I really want to buy during this sale.
I wish I would've seen this before I voted. I voted for Brothers, but after the Star Wars game didn't win, I'm to salty to help other people be happy. I would've voted for Chivalry.

FUuUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU STEAM

I think this Steam sale has been pretty good so far. There have been a lot of non-standard (85%, 90%, etc.) discounts on lesser known games that have been great for impulse purchases.

I've found this sale to be at least a lot less predictable than the summer sale.
The sale has had a few games with significant discounts that I didn't expect, ala The Bridge and Legend of Dungeon. Things like that have been cool.

I would go up to maybe $150 if there was something really good. Thanks for the ideas.

I'll check that also.

I don't know if I have a large head but I know those Sony ones are very heavy and were irritating the top of my scalp and around my ears, they're just heavy as hell. There are vibration devices in each ear so that must add some weight.

There's something of a gap in the headphone market... there just isn't much between the $100 & $200 sale price points. Headphones are very much diminishing returns, but for ~$100 you can get some nice stuff. Without knowing someone, I'd blindly recommend the M50s, more versatile/portable, over the AD700, but for positional audio (some games) the AD700 is better.

I know what you mean about top-of-head irritation. I tend to get that on Sony and others, not with the two I listed. I can (and do) wear those all day.)

Yeah? I posted a topic yesterday if I should pick up the V2 (cross-platform) or the PX22. I need something good for PS3/Xbox and PC use. I have a wide head (I think) and wear glasses, so maybe the V2 are a better choice?

I'm just looking at that Steelseries Siberia V2 and it's available at Staples for $80 in blue, that's pretty good although the white band is a bit ugly. There's some other model that comes with a USB sound card, not sure if that's necessary.

I looked at Audio Technica first but they were all over $150 and not available in real stores. In Canada at least.

i hate everything

with battlefield 2 and 4 being out, is ANYBODY going to actually even play BF2? And if so, why? It's just another shitty military shooter

Edit: iefaoijewije should I get Eldritch or no...

meh, I guess I'll wait. It'll reach this price again soon enough...crossing fingers for bundle.
BF2 Racing Mods, duh. Though BF2 was $1 on Origin last week...

Castlevania LOS for $8 and change on GMG. Finally I can play that game without feeling I wasted my money.
Nice. I think think I'm holding out for $5... too many to-play games ahead of it in ye-olde-backlog.

He seems to be having a very intimate time with that pickax, just look at his eyes.
Eyes. Position of hands. Lack of pants.

50% off for Bundle Stars High Octane Bundle for the next 48 hours.

$1.99 for 6 games :

  • Clutch
  • Crash Time 2
  • Death Track: Resurrection
  • Metal Drift
  • Post Apocalyptic Mayhem
  • Wasteland Angel
I am rather tempted to buy this just for Clutch...

The AT's at B&M retail are generally only found at Music Supply places. I got mine from Amazon and ...some online music supply.

They have the M50s at Bestbuy.ca but its $180. They list some cheaper models also. They're all under the Musical Instruments category, weird.

Headphones generally fall into two categories general consumer/gamer and musician/audiophile. And thus tend to be carried in the respective sections. That some there are some cheap consumer ones that are standouts at their price points, e.g. $15 Koss KSC-75 (these live in my purse).

Whatever you do, do not visit head-fi.org... so much time, so many headphones, so much money. tl;dr there's no one right headphone for everything, headphones excel in different areas and at different price points, and for different kinda of music/listening. Choosing is a matter of how much you want to spend, and what you're using them for.

I would get something like a razer orb Weaver (used to be the nostromo) or Logitech g13 if you don't already have one. I think keyboards are the weak link of the k+m combo.

Second idea, I got a wireless hdmi transmitter to put pc games on my TV. One of the best purchases I have made.

Wireless? You mean I don't have to string a cable from the TV to my La-z-boy/laptop? I might miss the tangles and tripping though.

Are any of the other games even remotely worth playing? I'm assuming you've played them, as our local racing guru.
PAM... cart racer, almost on rails.

Wasteland Angel, is okay top-down driver-shooter. It didn't have staying power when I put in time with it.

Metal Drift, I have this one a quick spin iirc. Seemed okay, nothing special. Need to time for a real opinion.

I haven't got around to DTR, or Crash TIme 2 (or CT1, or it's predecessor). ...no wait, I did play one of the Crash Times... I think, seemed decent, need more time for a real opinion.

So can we officially call the Steam sale the Black Friday of digital downloads? All hype, no substance.

I partially agree with both of you: so far it has been a major letdown for me. I've only bought DLC and the Jack pack, all the other deals relevant to my interests are far too much for me to be interested.

Admittedly, there are some pretty good deals, but most of them are for games I already own, so they're of no interest to me.

Please Please Please tell me that's a photoshop job...

(well, actually, I could analyze that myself, but I can't be arsed.)
I don't think it is.

I bring sad news: Horrid Henry is no longer available on Steam.
It was removed months ago.

Nice. I think think I'm holding out for $5... too many to-play games ahead of it in ye-olde-backlog.
Same here.

I just noticed that the Terreria Logo on the Amazon AppStore is lewd.

I fear that this could be an indication of games that are next in line to be bundled. I recalled Sanctum 2 and NS2 went for 80% and 90% off, then it showed up in a humble bundle the very next day after Steam Autumn sale.

Let's not get mysterd on her ass all at once. It wouldn't be fair to gang up on her. We've all made purchases that made us bang our heads against the wall. That's why we learn to train ourselves to only buy at 75% off or better. It may come off as a little anal to the outsider, but that's the CAG way.
I preordered the soundtrack edition of Brütal Legend, now all of you can laugh at me. :wall:

It is $7 at Nuuvem right now but I hope that I can use my Amazon EC to bring it down to $5 in Jan.

Are you my lost twin? I felt like we share a common brand preference for hardware stuff. I have been using ATH-AD700 for quite some time, it is one of the better headphones for that price range.

Please don't tell me you are using this headphone holder as well.

I feel that in terms of sound quality, those gaming headset cannot match the audio ones. Then again sound is very subjective so what is good for my ears may not be good for yours.

For anyone who has deep pockets and wants the best gaming headset, might as well go for Beyerdynamic MMX 300.

Every time I think a headset/headphone might be good, I read that it's shit. I hate research mode, always drives me crazy. Might give up in order to save my sanity.

Are you sad?

Didja miss the You Don't Know Jack flash sale?

It's back at $5 again on Humble Store (steam+drm-free) today.
Now, I don't know how to feel about this - on the fence.

Bought YDKJ 9-pack from ADVG other day for $5 only DRM-FREE version + gained a $5 EC coupon.

Added as Non-Steam game - which is fine.

But now, HB drops YDKJ 9-pack for $5 - providing both DRM-FREE version + Steam keys. I like when companies give both DRM-FREE versions + Steam-versions - best of both worlds.

I guess it'll all depend on if I use all my EC coupons or not.

Best is to try out the headphones for yourself because end of the day, you are the one who determines what is best for your ears.

I refuse to spend more than $100 on something that I will inevitably sit on and break.

Actually bought this headset holder in an attempt to stave off breakage for more than a few months.

Had the same problem, ended up going with the one that I could comfortably wear for insanely long sessions, the Razer Carcharsiasdgeafrersias. Bought one at Best Buy on clearance, pretty satisfied. Mic works well enough, and it doesn't hurt my ears. EVERY other headset I have owned has given me crippling ear pain within a few hours.
