PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

The Order gameplay trailer will be dropping tomorrow, cant wait to see that.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on the PS4 is the version to get if you have the choice. It is running at 1080p and 60fps. The previous gen version is looking pretty good too but Kojima suggest to get the PS4 version as it is the definitive version. Here is the comparison shot from Konami.

1080p AND 60fps? YAAAASSS!!! but the game length is really a downer for me. I'll wait for around the $20 mark. Also, looking at the 360 and Xbone shots there doesn't seem to be the same jump you see in the PS3 and PS4 shots. The PS4 version looks very crisp and clean. Last gen and XBone look very blurry in comparison.

Japan is getting a MGS V: Ground Zeroes PS4

Nothing really all that special, but still... It seems a little soon for SE consoles.

Nice. Wonder what timbo will say about that?

Agree with the other poster, will wait till about 20 dollar mark before picking it up, that or gamefly it.

Same here. I want to play the game but I'm not paying $40 for a glorified demo. I remember paying $50 for ZOE and the MGS2 demo back in the day but at least ZOE was a full game.

That said I would be willing to pay $100 upfront for the full game+dlc.

One of the reviewer finished ground zeroes in about 1 hour and a half but he noticed that his completetion percent was only at 9%. So the story part is short but the content of the game seems to be loaded given by his play time and percentage.

that still don't justify the thing being 40 bucks. this game should not be split up it should be a full in one package retail game. It's just a way for konami to make almost double on the game which is pathetic.

Why because the main story campaign is short? The game seems to have more content than the actual campaign suggest. They are releasing this because Phantom Pain is not far into development like most people believe and this is for the fans who can't wait that long.

People have to keep in mind It is $40 if you want the PS4/Xbox one version on a physical disk. The digital version is $30 for the PS4 and Xbox one if you don't want the disk. While the PS3/360 version retail for $30 if you want it on a disk, if you can handle just the digital version it would be just $20. So getting the physical version and for the latest console is what is going to cost you the most but at least you have a choice.

So you could technically get this game just for $20 at release. Am I right or wrong about this?

The game not being far into development and "fans who can't wait" isn't an excuse to release a prologue with a campaign that is reportedly only 90 minutes long without rushing. Imagine if this became a normal thing where you buy a couple hours of the campaign a year or more before the rest of a game is released and then have to pay the standard $60 price for the remainder of the campaign when you already spent $40 for a taste of it. It seems similar to day 1 DLC in a way. You're paying extra for content that could've just been put in The Phantom Pain. They say there are side missions and other things, but I have a hard time believing that stuff is going to add enough to the experience to make it worth releasing this. I hope I'm wrong about it.

Considering this is the PS4 thread, I imagine most people here are going to want the game for PS4 like I will, so it will not be $20. I might just wait for a sale and combine that with GCU discount at Best Buy and hopefully get it for closer to $20. $40 seems like too much for what is apparently being offered and I don't do digital copies unless it is a significant discount.

Lucked up and scored a PS4 camera from Gamestop yesterday.  Just happened to look online and saw a used one was in stock.  Only made it one day, the guy had just traded it in on Sat night.  I've been looking since Nov for one.

Resell it, going for like 150 plus most places.

That said, wonder why supply on those is so bad?

Something I am guessing you or everyone don't understand is YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY THE GAME or here is something buy it when it is on sale. It is a choice, this has happened before remember Gran Tourismo Prologue? Same exact thing 4 or 5 tracks and like 10 cars to get you hyped for GT5.

So it looks like Sony has some kinks to work out with disc-based vs digital games, and particularly when you go from the first to the second. I got that $25 Amazon PSN credit and decided I'd get Lego Marvel since it is on sale for $29.99. I had just bought the disc version a few weeks ago but I figured I could sell that and since the kids like to play that game a lot it would be nice not to have to switch discs all the time.

I redeemed my code and it acted like it was already downloaded. I thought that it would be great if the disc install counted as the download and now I had a license to run that install without the disc. But no - it still wants the disc to be in place. So I have now just deleted the install and am redownloading it. Hopefully that works and it is compatible with my disc-based game save. I've been burned with that before on PS3 games. But even if that works, it sure would be nice if at some point they just allow those disc installs to be used as is once you purchase the digital code. It seems like a waste to have to delete that and then redownload the whole thing.

I had something similar happen with Battlefield. I had bought the disc despite owning the digital *was having net issues at the time* and when those got cleared up, I traded in my disc and attempted to download *still having the installed data on my hard drive* but instead of allowing me to download it just said Start Game in the download option's place. Tried to launch the game but it told me to insert the disc. Really would be helpful if that was an option, to use that install data...

In regards to that chart, little disappointing to see Second Son as only 30 fps. Is that rumored or is it confirmed?

i got a question kind of relate to both ps3 , and ps4. i currently do not own a ps4. basically, it is regarding the ps4 voucher code to upgrade from the ps3 version to ps4 version of assasin creed iv, black flag. i was wondering can i redeem the code now on my ps3, without buying it, and wait till i get my ps4, and still get the discount , and get it for $10?

Redeem the code on the PS3 and buy the $10 version on the PS Store website to add it to your download list. I think the option to purchase the $10 sku will disappear at the end of March. Redeeming the voucher code just allows you the "option" to buy the $10 sku.

OK, so after I deleted the disc installed version and redownloaded the game it started up this time. But this evening I was trying to get a game going with my kids and after loading the game save it says I have to wait for install and it is at 40%. It never moves from that spot. I've had issues with Knack (disc-based version) where nearly every time that won't start because it has to install and it sits at 0% the whole time. I have to delete the disc install and redo it nearly every time.

So I just deleted Lego Marvel once again and am redownloading it. I noticed that the file that downloads is only 900 MB while the game is 6.x GB. So I guess that is the "initial" install that lets you play the first level or whatever. But the problem is the rest of it is not downloading/installing.

My conclusion is that the whole next-gen "play while downloading" thing is way too glitchy and in effect total BS. I wish they would just go back to downloading and installing the whole thing before you can play like on the PS3. I have never had DL/install issues there and they seem to be constant on the PS4. Now I'm going to get this partial install and will never know if the thing is fully-installed or not until I try to play and it tells me it isn't :bomb:.

I have 4 "full" games. Knack gives me problems all the time like I said and now Lego Marvel is flaky. I don't seem to have problems with NBA 2K14 and Skylanders though. And the PSN-type games (Contrast, Don't Starve) work fine.

Edit: Yep, redownloaded that first part and now it is still just telling me "40% installed". It could be that it needs to download the other 5GB and that won't change until it is downloaded and installing. However, here's the big problem: nowhere in the game or even the system (including under downloads) does it say it is downloading anything at this point. My router seems to be flashing like crazy so I guess I just need to wait an hour to see if it downloads the rest and finishes .

So that's the big issue: I just want to download the ENTIRE game before I play so I don't have to wait for more downloading when I'm actually playing it. It seems what this game does is only download the initial part and then it downloads the rest after you start playing. That is absolutely asinine. Can we just not do this sort of crap, devs? I specifically set up the download earlier when we were doing other stuff so we could play it this evening but it only did the small download and then apparently stopped. And now it is making us wait when we want to play. Stupid.

I find it a bit interesting that you've always had so many problems... I mean, I know others have as well but it seems like you have more than most. I'm starting to wonder it there's something wrong with your console in particular. Weird.

It could be - particularly the problems I have with Knack.

But I think this one is just a symptom of a hyped new feature (play while downloading) causing more problems than it solves. I let it sit for a while and all of a sudden it went from 40% to 60% so it is actually doing something I guess. They just need to have a "full download and install" option or something instead of this half-ass approach where you get a small download and then the rest doesn't happen until after you start playing the game. I mean, I suppose this might work if you hadn't played the game yet and were doing the first level. But since we played the disc copy quite a bit we are way beyond that so we have to wait for the full install.

I honestly can't tell if you're joking, but I'll explain it for you anyway. Metal Gear Solid is not a multiplayer centric game. The campaign is what you're paying for. If COD got rid of their campaigns and focused on multiplayer only like Titanfall, I don't think many people would care because most people buy COD for multiplayer only and the campaign is just an afterthought. Some spend hundreds of hours playing multiplayer and never touch the campaign.

i guess after these two launches we can see that game industry is not dieing like people were thinking after launch of wii u in 2012.
Over all the industry is still shrinking. Xbox One (at first) and PS4 were/are off to record breaking starts but software and hardware sells were down again from the year before.

yeah really info that will tell is come fall when most people that wanted a next gen system right away got one that's when the say less hardcore gamers will affect sales on systems.
