PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

Got Tomb Raider over the weekend... LOVE IT!  Really reminds me of Uncharted (Not the perfect game but it has the feeling.)  If you haven't played it before definitely get it now, however it is on sale for 39.99 today at Amazon so even if you have played it before it may be worth a pickup!!!

I think it's safe to say that a lot of this drop is due to the Wii fad finally getting over itself and parents not buying a lot of the shovelware being developed for it.
Sales have been pretty good for other titles.

if that was really the case you wouldnt have seen so many layoffs from bigger companies and companies going under.

Many people that bought Wiis didn't exactly by a ton of software for it. A lot bought it just for wii sports and wii fit.

I'm a little disappointed they didn't show more. I was hoping to see some destructible environments and maybe the monsters. But I guess we'll see all that at E3. The game does look gorgeous though.

The Wii software attach rate was pretty high. I was proven wrong in making the above argument on GAF a while back. I don't recall what the number is though.

I did find the below list of game sales though, and there were 150 titles that sold a million or more--and a lot of shovelware in there. As well as some crazy sales for things like Mario Kart (34 million), NSMB (27 million), Smash Bros (12 million), Mario Galaxy 1 (11 million etc.). So the Wii did move more software than I would have thought given the Wii Sports/Wii Fit buyers. Guess they bought a lot of crap for their kids.

Well I think the possibility is there, I mean this last generation really dragged on as opposed to previous ones where you'd pretty much get a new system every 5 years, at least initially sales look like people were really chomping at the bit for something new. I mean the selection on PS4 is pretty much shit at this point and it's still sold over 5 million units.

I hope you are right but reading that Irrational Games is downsizing\shutting down is not positive news for the industry.

I feel the gaming industry has gone down due to other multimedia services ie Netflix, Hulu , amazon prime and hbo go. Although people are still purchasing game systems they are not buying as much gaming software as try used to. The majority of my friends on both psn and xboxlive are normally watching movies or streaming services than actually doing gaming. This is a huge difference from about 3-5 years ago when I would get spam invites to play games now everyone is watching tv lol. Damn multimedia boxes
 
No the gaming industry has seen a decline due to mobile gaming.  those games are dirt cheap and bring in tons of revenue daily due to ads... I mean Candy Crush brings in almost 850 K daily... it cost almost nothing to develop and maintain.

Well at the event that Sony held behind closed doors where they announced the Vita Slim, they also talked about some new PS4 games.  However the news had an embargo on it so t hat nothing could be said yet.  All that I heard was there are big announcements coming.... be prepared!

I hope it's either the Last Guardian or FFVII HD but it'll probably be Uncharted 4 or GoW 4. Atlhough, Fallout 4 would be pretty awesome as well.

It has to be a Sony exclusive game.... I wonder what Sont are planning to do with Crash Bandicoot now that they bought him back?  not saying this has anything to do with the announcement.

Hoping more Uncharted news, or maybe even Syphon Filter? definitely will be first party, so many Sony studios working on games unknown.

So, is it safe to assume that they've held back 1 million consoles for the Japanese launch? If so, they'll immediately go to 6.3 million. Then at the conservative rate of 1 million a month, they'll be over 10 million at E3. Crazy that a million a month is conservative.

Also, Wolfenstein: The New Order has been dated 5/20/14 and has a new trailer. You also get access to the new Doom beta if you pre-order.

...I kinda forgot they were still making a Doom game, so I guess it's pretty far along if they're advertising beta access.

 
^ I'm actually really looking forward to the new Wolfenstein game; the one for PS3 was one of my top 10 favorite games of last generations and one of only a handful that I platinumed. The ending was a little stupid but I really did enjoy the game.

 
Haha, I'm really glad they're still making Wolfenstein games but I hope they don't start trying to take itself seriously.  RTCW is quite possibly my favorite shooter of all-time and after the last game, I was ready to write this franchise off.  Hopefully this one will be a return to glory.

 
I'm more excited about the DOOM announcement.  Doom 3 was one of the best games I have played!  Can't wait to see Doom Next Gen.

 
Finally got a chance to play some PS4 demos at Best Buy (before they just had video loops going).

I love the DS4, huge improvement from the past Dual Shocks.  Better sticks and love the triggers.

I wasn't blown away by the graphics--but I only played Knack and Fifa.  But I expected as much as I haven't been blown away by the graphics of any next gen games yet.

If you try Killzone, it is definitely above what last gen did. However go look at game play from The Order, and that is what to be expected with next gen visuals. Also NBA 2k was another launch title that showed what next Gen is all about.

Going forward, look at screens from MLB the Show as well as that game looks amazing.

The DS4 is unbelievable and the best controller I have played to date. However there is an issue with the sticks and the rubber is tearing after long use. lots of people including myself having issues with it, even though my sticks are ripped I still like it way more than any other controller I have used.

 
Yeah, I'll probably grab some silicone covers for the analog sticks when I get a PS4.  I have some on my DS3's that came with the Real Trigger attachments and love them.  Didn't need them for durability on the DS3, just more grippy.  DS4 is the opposite as those sticks are nice as is, but not durable apparently.

 
Not to mention, how long ago did he leave, hasn't this been in development for ages?  I mean the basic story and stuff should be the same, the artists are who make it look good.  We will have to see.  I am just shocked this happened so quickly, I mean we hear nothing about this game for years and out of no where there is going to be a playable public beta?!

They reset development in 2011. As I understand it they were unhappy with the game at the time Rage released, so they scrapped it and started from scratch.

 
that's old news from last week. With that said should not be shocked ps4 handles it that well the fox engine is a older engine so should do well on next gen systems.
