This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Quick question. I got an email that I have promotional credit expiring. If I buy something are those funds used first or do I have to burn through all of my other credit first?

the points that are set to expire first are always the first points taken out of your account when purchasing marketplace items. so you're good to go

Free Gold access on the 360 in Europe this weekend. As always, it just allows for multiplayer gaming and access to apps, no sales or Games with Gold.

Work kept sidetracking me from finishing my reply to the BL2 talk, and some of what I was going to say ended up being redundant, so I rewrote things.

There were 2 level cap raises in BL1. The first (+11) was paid, since it was included with the Knoxx DLC. The 2nd (+8) was free. By adding the first level cap raise to the Season Pass, BL2 wasn't too much of a departure for a lot of gamers. Since the 2nd level cap raise was released over 2 months after the last story DLC of the Season Pass, it didn't bother me that it wasn't retroactively added. I was happy enough that the first one was added to the pass. We also got a 3rd playthrough for free and the 2nd level cap raise included new weapons and class mods. Whether they're worthwhile or not, I can't say. After beating TVHM (no side missions offering blue rewards or higher) and the Pirate DLC on the 1st playthrough, I put the game down because of the (at the time) potential of a level cap raise, and I wanted to ensure any mission rewards were at their max level. While I've started the Torgue DLC, I haven't really gotten back into the game yet.

I saw the Headhunter packs as a bit of an experiment. I haven't kept up on BL2 news like I used to, but isn't their primary purpose to distribute heads and skins? If the 1 head / 1 skin packs priced at $1 aren't selling too well on the marketplace, what happens if you bundle a set for all characters together, and instead of charging $4-$5 for them, throw in some gameplay by way of a super short campaign and charge $3 for it? I thought there were originally only going to be 3 or 4, but since a 5th one is coming, perhaps this method is working. Whether it's a good road to go down or not, I can't say. I bought the one pack when it was on sale, and will pick up others if they go on sale. If I get back into the game and complete it, I may pick up the other packs anyway because they're cheap and because they kept working at the game as long as they did.

I imagine the GOTY was released when it was to capitalize on the last holiday season for the 360 and PS3. So I can understand why it was released without the HH packs, the first of which didn't release until a couple weeks after the GOTY did. And if the HH packs are mainly an attempt to sell heads and skins, it's not really a big deal they're not included since the other purchasable heads and skins weren't, either. The 2nd level cap raise came out about 1 month prior, so perhaps there were timing concerns about its certification holding up the release of the GOTY for the holiday season.

Can't really say anything about the DNF or Aliens messes. I bought DNF when it was clearanced at BB for $3, which was low enough for me to give it a shot despite even the cashier telling me to not bother. Still in the backlog, though.

On another note, when MS did the currency changeover last year, did they also change requirements for submitting codes to extend a Gold sub? My Gold is up on Sunday and I have a code for another year. I get an error when I try to submit it, which is because I don't have an alternate method of payment attached to my account. I had an expired card attached to my account for a few years, but no other active payment method, and used to just be able to submit a code and extend my sub.

80169cf9

The payment option can't be used for this purchase. Please select a different payment option or add a new one.

This error message occurs when you have an active membership but auto renewal is turned off, and the payment instrument that was used to purchase that membership has been removed from your account or is no longer associated with your membership.

Because the payment instrument has been removed from your current membership, you will not be able to add a prepaid code or token for a membership while your current membership is still active. You must wait until your current membership has ended to redeem the token.

That's a little bit of f**kery bullshit for sure

If you buy GoD version of Max Payne 3, visit the in-game store and downloaded the rest of it. Had a couple people asking about that today.
??? I don't understand. The rest of what?

It's probably because of the video. I didn't wanna double post. Glad you got the free shit (I'm still really impressed they released even the GAMESTOP pre-order bonus for free, that was very nice of them). How are the mission packs (if you've played them yet, that is)? I'm holding off because I don't own a copy yet, have just played it elsewhere.

I second his recommendation by the way, it's $40 at GS and Amazon right now. Well worth it (as long as you get the 360 version (PS3 version noticeably underperforms)).
I enjoyed mission pack 2 more than others because they were insanely fun. Especially the dark arena mission, mutated dragons mission and mission 16. The mission 16 is awesome, gives out more armor/weapon crates. Very helpful for beating the story on inferno if you are in need of more health or looking for specific weapons.

1st or 3rd mission pack is okay, but I recommend 2nd pack...a LOT.

It's probably broken up into two downloads because it's so big, is what he means. So you download the first half, and then access the first half to download the second half.
Exactly. The game is over 6 GB, which is almost the limit for On Demand games, but Max Payne 3 came out on two discs, and in fact you need to download another disc worth of content (6-7 GB more) if you want to play the game. It's an important detail, since it takes up an incredible amount of space that not everyone has.

Well back to GH, finally imported all the GH songs, other than Band Hero, as I took the shrink-wrap off the GH:WoR copy I had, found a free Soundgarden CD included lol. Shit, I should have opened that thing up way sooner, I love Soundgarden!

Alive in the superunknown! Just bought tickets to see them and nine inch nails in august. What a lineup, My 16 year old self would be so jealous.

Bobbyt-not sure the price in your city but I got lawn tickets for $40 each. Not bad for some of the greatest bands EVER.

Noooo, my cheapass self was avoiding being tempted to spend a billion $ on tickets but you're making it so hard to resist. Why must you do this to me on a money-saving website? ;_;

Also, yeah, the free soundtrack was a nice touch. I still have to import the DLC for those games, how much are the import fees per game?

I got tickets to the Dallas show in August. Going to be hot as hell, but worth it for the show NIN usually puts in. Can't wait!

It was about $10 after tax and everything ($1.99 for GHWT, $2.99 for GH5, $2.99 for GH:M, & $1.49 for GH:SH). Hadn't imported anythin but now I'm running with 328 tracks in my GH library. Ha, I found GH: VH slipcover, which I got free a while back but have never played.

So I decided to do a little write up about Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. So everyone is paying the entrance fee to the game but is that a good thing for the game industry? http://bit.ly/1dz7sGU

Redbox didn't have Dark Souls 2 near me and spring break has arrived, so I rented it for 5 days from Family Video.

I really like having a dedicated jump button. The lack of direction is a little frustrating. I'm DS you were able to kind of tell if you were going the right way by difficulty of enemies. I've gone about 4 different ways and all enemies seem to be similar strength. I wasn't getting far with no healing potions left. After almost 2 hours I figured out how to level up and get a flask. Cheese and crackers, hide and seek just to get basic abilities.

Even better get pregnant.

Mission to find co-op thingy tonight failed. However I did find a boss that made me deliver a palm to my face.

I have a good feeling about deals this week (probably is a bad sign). I'm really looking forward to them. Maybe we'll finally get FF3 on WP to be under $10.

Wrapping up the side quests and collectables in a Sleeping Dogs is time consuming. I blazed through the story, but now I'm at the point where open world games start to lose my attention. As for next weeks deals I'm itching for some some fps action or a deep sale on the entire Gears catalogue.

Just saw this Dungeon Defenders DLC on my dashboard, under $4. But i don't see that xbld picked it up, what was the price before ? and is that DLC worth it ?

That's the standard prices of the DLC. Each one adds a new map for co-op/solo, a new pvp map, new enemy types on said map including a boss, and new items/weapons to obtain. Depends how much you enjoy the game as to whether its worth it for you or not. I spent some serious time with this game when it first released, I love it. I've only purchased the first two in the time I spent with it but I plan to grab the rest at some point.

Be aware that the DLC maps are a lot harder than the originals. I can easily run through hard on all, and insane on most, solo with swapping my characters during build phases but teamwork is basically required for the new areas and enemies.

Thank you, i'll hold on till i get to play the game then.

Pretty much. We rarely get leaks, the last one i rememberd was PB: Battlegrounds.

Btw, is it me or the thread has gone reaaaaally slow this day.

Hey mate, just read your article and while I agree with almost everything you say I have to mention that you made an error. Dead Rising 2: Case Zero was never priced at $15. It was priced from its release date at $5 (400MSP) and has been on sale a few times for $2.50 (200MSP) as you'lll note from the following link: http://xbldb.com/offers/001-cd1

And I'm not sure what you remember of its release, but my recollection is that hardly anyone at the time thought that $5 was too much for that game. In fact it was widely considered as great fan service by Capcom to the community as a prologue/teaser that gave a brilliant experience for a fair and reasonable price (though I do recall that a couple reviewers like IGN just thought it was a bit poorly paced). If anything some people were a bit miffed that it was an Xbox only release, as was the other standalone DLC for DR2, Case West. But otherwise it was thought to be a great move that aided the marketing as well as serviced the fans by giving them a short DR2 experience a month or two before the main release, while allowing them to then import their save and start a few levels higher in the main game. Win-win for everyone and it make Capcom lots of money but strangely was never repeated by another company or even Capcom themselves until this whole GZ affair.

If GZ was priced as fairled as DR2: Case Zero no one would be complaining or talking about the principles of fair game pricing. We can debate whether or not MGS: GZ is a good game or just a lame tech demo until the cows come home. But I think we can mostly all agree that $20-30 is just not a reasonable price for what they did release and that one should expect more from a MGS game at that price point.

Case Zero was like getting a McChicken from McDonalds. It was cheap and not horrible. GZ is like eating a fancy burger with a lot of toppings on it. About 4x more expensive, but much higher quality.

Dark Souls 2 maybe spoilers

[spoilers] Was having a great time until I got to the point where I have no idea where to go. For the past hour I've been replaying areas to try and find a new place to go.

The old ladies at the start of the game kept laughing at me, so I had to put them down. I hope they aren't important.

EDIT: I think my plan of posting how I've been lost in DS2 for almost an hour so that I'd figure out where to go 2 minutes after posting worked!

Spy, you're my pal, but I have to disagree that this is a bad thing for the industry. I bought MGS: GZ, physical copy, for the X1, and I'm enjoying it. It's definitely worth $30 to me. The reasons are:

1. It's a true current-gen Metal Gear experience, the likes of which I haven't enjoyed since MGS3, since I didn't have a PS3. It strikes the perfect balance between an old school MGS game with current gen design philosophy and execution. It's masterfully done and it looks amazing on the X1.

2. It's at least 4 hours of solid entertainment, if not 6 to 8 hours. And for people who say the main mission can be done in 10 minutes.....eff off. That's a speed run and not at all indicative of the experience. Play the game in its entirety before giving me this line of crap.

3. Quality > quantity. I have not enough time to play games and more games than ever that I desperately want to play. As odd as this sounds, a shorter game is a bit of a relief.

4. Choice and opinion. It's my choice to spend $30 on this game, less if I was a diligent CAG and got it at TRU. I chose to buy this knowing full well what I was buying. Nobody made me and "the industry" didn't force my hand. I bought it and, in my opinion, it was worth it.

5. "See the future". This was a brief glimpse into what we can expect from a full MGS experience in a little while and I appreciate that opportunity. We all don't get to go to E3 or PAX or other industry events, so this was a chance to experience a snippet of what will come later.

So, there is just a bit of friendly counter-point on the subject. Also, people bought Zone of the Enders for the MGS2 demo. This time I got to spend $30 instead of $50 or $60, whatever games were when ZoE came out. That game sucked and I spent months trying to convince myself otherwise. In the end, it was worth it for that demo. So was this $30 I spent on Ground Zeroes.

MGS GZ was pretty fun and definitely worth the $24+tax I got it for at BB. I played it for a good 4 hours and some change. I already traded it in for $19.80 at BB though but it definitely takes 6 hours plus to complete everything if you take your time and have fun. I didn't complete 2 side ops and an extra ops and still put in 4 hours+.

Know the feeling, they are just important for realocating. So it's ok lol.

I Thought Dead Rising 2: Case Zero was just like McDonalds in the sense of "yup, I don't need anything else from them".

And I got a PS3 for $25 and was debating on getting PS+ before I remembered my 360 library and how little there was for me because I buy so many goddamn games. That's kinda depressing...

DS2 finally froze on me as soon as I entered "Blight Town". There were a few times where it almost froze completely, but audio still played and the screen moved in a few seconds. I'm hoping when I start it up again that my save is still intact.

Maybe Metal Gear collections and Dead Rising games are the next DOTW. That would be great.

EDIT: The Gutter is like everything I hated about Blight Town plus everything terrible.

Ahh thanks for the correction, yeah I picked it up when it went on sale for $2.50 but I thought it initially was $15. I'll do my research next time. :whistle2:?

GEEE, look what just scrolled through my news feed.

With successes like Minecraft, DayZ, and Rust, Microsoft is seeing Early Access as "ripe for innovation on Xbox One." http://bit.ly/1iqljUp

The floodgates have opened! lol

Podcast Unlocked 137, has MGSV: GZ discussion starting at 53:20. The complete seasons of The Walking Dead or The Wolf Among Us for about $25 was the example used as price comparison. Apparently Kojima didn't want to bring this out. Interesting that the IGN people said maybe release this for $30 and then get $20 or $30 off with The Phantom Pain.

I think a couple weeks ago a developer announced a sale a day or two before it started (maybe it was Hotline Miami). Kind of like a leak. Maybe we should be hassling devs about future sales.

Think I'm almost done with DS2. It feels easier than 1, but I'm pretty sure that is only because I've played a lot of DS and learned how the game rolls (attack, dodge, attack, dodge, repeat).

I'm a little worried about one chest that had a big red thing in it with a bunch of spiders surrounding it. I got scared and didn't pick it up. Then when I killed the spider boss, it dropped a very similar looking red thing that ended up being a great soul. I'll have to go back looking for that chest meow.
