Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

is that how you feel when sony releases hd remakes? you support a ps4 rerelease of last of us this summer do you not?
I did. It was only a year old and a lot of people that own PS4s didn't own a PS3.

im not saying its bad. It makes sense esp for people new to the Xbox brand that never got to play the Halo series. I'm just personally kinda meh to it since we already had a Halo remake and having owned an Xbox and 360 ive already played them all.

I get it it though, if you really love the halo series this is prob like having every zelda game remade for me on a Wii U collection.

So you think The Last of Us remake is fine since "It's only a year old" but a remake for a game that is nearly 8 years old isn't a big deal or exciting....

On a side note since that Neogaf leak is pretty much all turning out to be true I can't wait to see how Forza Horizon 2 stacks up against Drive Club.

On a side note I'm sad a Crack Down sequel isn't coming until some time down the road.

If the Halo collection is $60 it's an incredible deal.  No way anyone can say anything negative about it. C'mon now Deader2818 there is no way you can believe what you are saying right now.  I think Last of Us remake will be good for the PS4 especially if a summer release like Timbo said earlier, and I think this will be a great release for the Xbox.  I'm all for HD remakes anyway especially if I haven't already played the games, or in the case of Halo it's been years since I played them.

I just said it was lol. I never said I was excited for the Last of Us coming to PS4. I saw I got why they are doing it, just like I get why they are going to do this with Halo. I also understand its basically just the Last of Us GOTY edition that would have been released anyways so why not just port it to PS4.

I don't get how because im not personally flipping out over it, it makes im being negative?

Even with the voice command stuff, it's becoming less of a novelty with the Comcast X1 DVR, Amazon set top box etc having it. Not that non gamers were ever going to buy a game console for watching tv and movies with voice control anyway, but they'll have less incentive to do so as voice control expands.

So it's just a novelty for gamers who also watch a lot of tv or movies and some love it and some don't. Thus it's much better to be an option than to make everyone pay $100 more regardless of whether they want those features.

I will say the Amazon Set Top box did voice commands a lot better. They should have skipped Kinect and had a Microphone on the controller, that would have greatly improved accuracy of commands.

Well, I guess what I was saying that I didn't say well was only Halo 2 will be an HD remake while the other 3 are already in HD.

I hope going forward we don't see a lot of old/older PS3/360 games get ports to PS4/X1 since its not going ot be much of a difference. Getting HD remakes of PS2/Xbox/GC games were totally different thing imo. I don't mind at all if they do more of those for this current gen.

lets get mass effect 1-3 remake for next gen and i will be even more happy
I guess stuff like this I don't get. Why not just play it now since you can get the collection for cheap now on 360/PS3? I guess its just the nature of these systems not being backwards compatible?

Well that leak earlier this year is turning out to be 100% accurate.

Here is the post at neogaf with the original leaked info, this leak happened back in January.
Yeah a lot of that stuff came to be true but I'm really bummed that Titanfall Xbox One wasn't mass produced (it did show up in the wild though).

This Halo news:

same reason why people will pay 60 bucks for last of us when it's like 30 if not lower on ps3.

I have zero interest in remakes personally, but no problem with them coming out for people who missed them or want to replay them.

I can't keep up with new releases after the first year lull is over so I don't replay games remade or not. And if I missed it a gen or two ago it wasn't a must play for me then and not worth my time now either.

yes, i obviously know companies do remakes because it makes them money. If this gen is going to be a lot of PS3/360 remakes then its just easy money for being lazy since there is hardly anything to do to port it over.

The biggest thing about that case is that Mass Effect is the only series to import saves over, well Dragon Age too I guess, from previous entries of the series and a compilation on the new system allows new and vets to play bringing all their decisions along the way from Mass Effect 1 to 3. I'm also down for silky smooth Mass Effect combat, single or multiplayer. :p

I guess but I mean, you can just do that now anyways if you get the trilogy collection for either system and start over from 1.

Most likely there will be fixes and of course the visual upgrade so you could but you could also wait for the best version to come out. Again this so called collection would be featuring games as far back as 2007. Lol, to tie to the achievement convo going on in the Titanfall thread, having to go through and grabbing the achievements again would also entice a few hardcore.

Hi Tom, you're making me show off.
White Console plus Sunset Overdrive and a fancy ass controller in October.
Also a limited edition 1TB box after that in November.

^I wonder if ntkrnl got this leak right. He seems to have got most of them right up to this point so far. I have been holding out for this Sunset OverDrive bundle since he mentioned it in January.

I don't think you guys are being honest when you say you have never had to repeat commands.
in november there was some commands I had to repeat or some commands that I would say wrong, but not anymore. I think the biggest issue is people talk too fast. If you're trying "xbox, on" ...it's not gonna understand if you say it like "xbozon'.

Why do you think Optimus pauses between Autobots, and Roll Out. lol

Used to have that same problem. When I first got my system I talked way too fast into it so everything got mixed together and couldn't be picked up. The rare problems I have now are my own fault because I'm known to be a quiet talker.

Same. The Kinect is pretty spot on. It would be a bit better if it wasn't placed DIRECTLY in front of my TV. Also, I've been sick a few days. Shit is definitely being finicky lately, lol.

I dont see why the Halo remakes are a bad thing, they will entice buyers for the system.  Personally I'm excited for it, mostly Halo 2 since that could use a graphical overhaul.  But I'll gladly replay all 4 campaigns on X1 if the price is reasonable.  With backwards compatability being out of commission this-gen, remakes are the next-best alternative.

It hasn't actually been announced. All of the sites are reporting on a rumor that comes from Engadget. They are probably correct though. I'm excited to play these games again, especially if the improvements are significant. I've sort of outgrown competitive multiplayer, but I really loved Halo 2's multiplayer so that will be fun to revisit for at least a bit.

I would love to have that release.  Just saying, I can't get excited for Halo 5 because I've only played Reach.  I want to play the previous iterations first, but I've had bad experiences playing old games later.  Example:  Gears of War.  I *HATED* the first one.  Luckily I gave the second one a chance after forcing through the first one, and liked it.  Then the third one was amazing.

For some reason I am thinking $99.99 for the Halo collection when it launches.
Hopefully not but since that Neogaf leaker has pretty much been correct so far it leads me to assume that him saying this would be a separate edition of the game means it'll cost more than $60.

Also with that being said I wonder if only Halo 2 will have multiplayer. According to him this year was H2A and 3&4 would be in a special edition of the game which makes me think Halo 2 would have the main focus with the other two just having their story modes into the game.

Microsoft still has an uphill battle. They aren't out of the woods yet. But these recent changes are a clear indication that they are trying to turn things around. Perhaps it really is the mistakes of the old guard being cleaned up by the new administration.

I understand why some consumers might not be excited by the Halo collection. It can be a little difficult to muster enthusiasm for games that have come and gone years ago. I'm a collector. I have every game in that collection sitting on my shelf right now, as well as the Halo 1 re-release on the 360.

At the same time, there's nothing particularly wrong with re-releases and remakes. I just hope these aren't simple ports. I suspect that they won't be. Halo 5 is in production right now, I have no doubts about that. This Halo collection is most likely a means for Microsoft to get a Halo game on store shelves before Halo 5 arrives. Re-makes can use new engines and technology, but have an existing design template to work from. It's much easier to just throw resources at them and already have a decent idea as to how they will turn out. They are a much less risky means of approaching development at this stage of the XBox One's life-cycle.

And at the end of the day, there's something for everyone. Some developers get to re-visit one of the more popular and well-regarded franchises. Fans of the series get an upgraded version of the classic to play on modern hardware. New players get a chance to experience the titles for the first time with a fresh coat of paint.

While I may not be personally stoked for Halo collection, I can appreciate the business sense. From Microsoft's perspective this is a win-win, and it's decently fair to consumers as well. It is definitely nice to see Microsoft a bit more on-the-ball going into E3. Last year was a disaster, perhaps in 2014 we'll see a more competitive and judicious Microsoft.

Am I the only one that finds it odd they are calling it "Halo 5: Guardians" since it looks like it's a reboot/side story, why not just call it "Halo: Guardians?"  In other words why make it a numbered game in the main line series?

I merely mentioned it was a Halo 5 question because  Halo 5: Guardians thread, it describes Halo 5 and that's where people are talking Halo 5: Guardians.

It's not a reboot, it's a continuation of a new trilogy, started by Halo 4, hence Halo 5.

Phil Spencer thinks there will be a resurgence of RTS games on consoles and more (Phil Spencer Twitter round up)

Some other interesting things Spencer said:

I would love to see some RTS games on Xbox One (in general that genre has stagnated imo), on 360 Battle for Middle Earth II, C&C 3, Supreme Commander II & Universe at War: Earth Assault (bad launch) were all great and I had a lot of fun playing them.

I would also love to have a Mech Assault game made for Xbox One! Mechs are IN again.

on game stream note youtube is buying twitch for 1 billion in cash  :wall: yet another thing about to be destroyed by google. I will say it has been fun watching jtv/twitch grow like it has. i was a jtv user since launch in 07 that dude just became a rich rich man.

Question: I don't use my Xbox One much---I decided not to use it in the main TV room as I don't like its functionality as a TV box so right now I've just used it for DR3 and PvZ but by all accounts it works fine.

My kid brother is in college and has been asking about getting one for his birthday this summer. Their is a CL ad in my area for an X1 console with Kinect, 2nd controller, DR3 and AC4 game all with original receipt for $400 cash. Like I said I haven't had any problems with my  console but are their known hardware issues I should be wary of? I thought I remember reading people talking about disc drive failure? I'm just trying to come up with a mental checklist of things to check out before I pay for this.

The main hardware issue was with a disc drive gear that wasn't aligned properly on some consoles (maybe through shipping). Funny enough though, one of the rare cases where hitting an electronic makes it work, lol.

Alright thanks. I'm not very good with electronics and since my MS consoles have always been secondary in use (i.e. exclusives/streaming) I'm not really up to date with these type of things and I don't do a lot of CL purchasing so I just want to make sure I'm not buying a $400 brick for my brother.

Edit: and even if there are hardware problems down the road it should be covered by MS for at least the first year right? Listing said it had the original receipt

Yup. Should be covered. Just make sure the receipts serial matches the Xboxs serial.

Should only really need the receipt in the scenario where you had to prove purchase was less than a year ago so receipt shouldn't matter since all units in the wild are under a year old.

Just make sure the console is not banned. See that a lot on Craigslist.

What would cause an X1 console to be "banned"? I thought MS only did that for cheaters and people trying to pirate consoles. And how would I tell? Trying to log in via my XBL account real quickly?
They can be banned for any number of reasons. The only way to check that I know is testing it in person. So yes logging in real quick would work. Gamestop stores are doing this by adding internet to almost all the stores so they can check if consoles are banned. A lot of banned 360s and PS3s were sold by Gamestop to customers and since those consoles cannot be unbanned you could imagine some angry customers.

My recommendation?  Tell the guy to meet you at a Gamestop.  Have him start the trade in process right in front of you, and let them confirm it works to their standards.  Then have him "change his mind".  Wham, you guarantee a working console AND your safety by meeting in a public place.

Last time I traded in my PS4 they couldn't find a TV with hdmi so they just accepted my PS4 without checking anything. So YMMV? But that is a killer dealer GBAstar.

Lol, when I upgraded my 360 to the S model I wanted to trade my old one in to Best Buy but augh. The chick who was at the Geek Squad/Customer Service area took a really long time before she came back to me and said that they could only get black and white out of my box. She was going to let me trade it in for $1. LOL, WTF!? Long story short, took it into Gamestop and got tons of credit to go along with their promo at the time and yeah it was in f'n color when the guy tested it right there on the counter. God, that still makes me laugh to this day.
