Dragon Age: Inquisition - E3 TRAILER

Two new character profiles.  This time for two of the Inquisitions advisors, Leliana and Cullen.  Note that I believe these are not party members, but very significant members of the Inquisition representing major factions in Thedas.

Cullen:

At this point, who is left for them to profile?  Only people I can think of are Morrigan and Flemeth.  Unless of course they want to throw the fans a bone and include Shale and Sandal in there for grins and giggles.  As much as I enjoy reading these writer interviews and character profiles, I seriously would like some surprise going in.  It might be time to go radio silent, methinks.

Fans asked for it so they got it. I don't feel too bothered by it.

Only showing basic Q&A and a couple screenshots is about all I'd want anyways. Enough to whet my appetite and let me know who I want in my party, but not enough for me to sit there and feel like "oh, I already know your entire story" when I run into them. For the most part, we don't even know what most of the companions even sound like. If they hold out until launch with this much info about each companion, then I'd consider this one of the better leadups to a game that BioWare has had.

No one is talking about the E3 demo video?!?
Just watched it. That is beautiful. Seems like they are definitely channeling some Red Dead Redemption and I like the result. Kinda weird seeing a horse in Thedas though.

Some of the story stuff shown was interesting. It sure looked like Iron Bull and Sera were sent to their deaths to make time for Dorian to cast whatever that spell was. And Leliana made her own decision to murder her hostage even though the player ordered her not to! But presumably the scene could play out completely differently if you didn't happen to bring Dorian with you on that mission, or if you had sent another character instead of Leliana to get captured. Very interested in the possibilities.

I thought I saw the PC give the amulet ultimatum in that scenario. That being said, Leliana is willful enough to do it anyway ;)

If I read the options right, there was a "Kill him right away" line as well as a "We'll trade him for the amulet" line, and the player chose the latter, only to have Leliana immediately kill the guy without any negotiation.

Btw are you anexanhume on NeoGAF also? If so thanks for defending the pulpy dialogue in BioWare games. Like you (?) said, not sure what people are expecting from this or if they've just never played a BioWare game before.

That's me everywhere. I've not seen anyone steal it after 10+ years :D

I only watched a little, just to see real-time in-game footage, but wow.  The game looked damn, DAYUM, good!  Both in the visuals department and the flexibility in the battle system.  Good show, Bioware.

All I can say to that piece of sensational media is : fuck off!  Always something.  I thought better of Polygon.  Everybody is free to their opinion.  It's just that his is shit.

Agreed, chubby. He's trying to find an issue with a game where there hasn't been one to date. The fact that he fact-reaches back to RDR and tries to draw analogies into DA: I is ridiculous. What happened with the bison in the Old West is correct for how it's portrayed in RDR, as that was how it went down. Sheesh.

The guy is trying entitled to his opinions, though yes, he's trying to stir up trouble where there isn't any and doesn't need to be any.

I was playing a little bit, I mean the meat of the article isn't quite as sensational as the headline and first few paragraphs. He actually has some praise for games like Red Dead Redemption and DAI that have more complicated ecology models than just "everything respawns forever" and wants to see more games explore that further, so that's all well and good. Still, seems pretty half-cocked to watch a 10-minute demo of a game that's not out yet and throw around words like "guilt," "murder," and "seething with anger" before playing the game to see if the situation actually merits that emotional response. And maybe it does, maybe killing that dragon will be a totally Renegade thing to do. But let's give the dang game a chance to actually come out first.

And really, I'm just not a fan at all of the whole "I'd rather be writing about identity politics and social issues but instead I'm stuck writing about these dumb video games so I'm going to just shoehorn my pet issue into this game preview" strain of games blogging.

I watched the long gameplay demonstration and the fighting looks like the same frantic mess that Dragon Age II was. Am I missing something? To those who follow the development more closely, what in the way of tactics will this game offer?

How long is Dragon Age Origins? I picked it a long time ago (mostly for the ME2 Blood Dragon Armor), but never got around to play it. Also do you guys think that it is really necessary to play DA2?

DA:O is probably between 24 - 40 hours, depending on how you play it. Fabulous story, but it looks soooo dated now, so beware.

From what I know of Inquisition, it sounds like the plot from DA2 more directly ties into it than DA:O. DA2 is not the train wreck that everyone makes it out to be and I would recommend playing it before diving into Inquisition this fall.

Storywise it's not. It's just for me the levels really sucked because they were so small. It's nice to see them going whole open world and it's why I am so excited for this game.

DA:O took me like 57 hours doing all quests and only the extra content that was available at release (Shale, Warden Keep). Didn't realize most people finished under 40. I am someone for whom complete ME playthroughs take about ~32 hours with DLC, too.

Ooh, I don't have any of the DA books on kindle, just hard copy. Might be worth checking out. Nice find, Shrike!!

Also, DA vinyl figures coming in December. Not as cool as Funko pops, but still pretty cool.

They're not showing as part of Kindle Unlimited yet, though hopefully, they will be. Also not showing under ones you can "borrow" with Amazon Prime, either. Feh.

Nice find on the vinyl figures, though it looks like it's a nice mix of DA: O and DA2.

In other news, Google Now has been finding some interesting articles about Inquisition that have been good reads:

I'm a 70+ hrs guy on Origins. I'm the guy that searches every single corner of the game, does every side quest, likes to see every line of dialog and reads most codex's to get the most of the story. Just try to get the most out of a single playthrough.

I think I put at least 60 hours into the base game with Origins.  I didn't finish AWakening or the Golems DLC, but the other DLC's were great.  Overall, I probably put around 75 to 80 hours into it.  Well worth it.

I should clarify that I finished DA:O in about 40 hours once while doing most of the meatier side missions and I consider that to be what the average person would do. With my first, more thorough playthrough, I think I put in about 65 hours. Now when you mention all the dlc then someone could easily put in 80+ hours.

And if you count going back to play and experience each origin story, then I don't know...estimate another 6 hours(?).

As much as I evangelize DA2, yes it would have been EVEN BETTER with more time in development. In the grand scheme of things, 6 weeks isn't anything.

I said six months. ;) I think with six months' more time to develop, we hopefully wouldn't have had the repeated environment issue and some of the other quirks that were in DA2. I also liked DA2 as much as the majority in here, though the repeated environments were getting a little long in the tooth.

It's more time with Destiny and Borderlands I guess.
Among many other options, yes.

Playing KoA:Reckoning and Paddy says it best, "such work takes only as long as it takes. Soon". Lol
A month isn't bad. Slipping into 2015 would be a very bad show for the game being done and polished. Since they've been working on it since 2010, one month won't be an issue.

I just hope this is the last delay. It would suck if that and the witcher 3 came out at the same time.
Agreed. I think both companies would try to avoid that happening, since they know both titles are likely to be purchased by a good number of the same people.

So Dragon Age Inquisition is included in EA's new EA Access program on Xbox One. $30/year subscription fee, and you get 10% off of digital game and DLC purchases, and some kind of early access to Inquisition, although it may just be a limited-time trial.

Yeah, it's definitely not going to be free with the Access subscription, only the 10% discount on the game and DLC. But what they've said about the early access is that "every game is different"-- some games will be 2 hour trials and some will be full early access. They did say that every title will let you save your progress in the trial version and carry it over to the full release.
