This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Deep Silver just acquired Homefront from Crytek.
Judging from the current state of the studio, expect a Crytek sale very soon.

Diablo III on 360 is 29.99 (50% off).
Nice... I think. I'm waiting on the Ultimate Evil edition later in August. Btw, anyone know/doubt if they'll release it digitally on the marketplace as games on demand?

I guess it would be redundant since UE includes the base game and the base game is still on the marketplace separately and you can't buy the Reaper of Souls expansion separately so dlc for the base game is a no-go.

Diablo 3 seems like a game to be left lazily on the hard drive. Is there any past precedent for a similar case like this?

Get to play up to 5 days early and 10% discount on dlc. I think that applies to Madden 15 and ultimate team packs.
Whoops, totally off on my estimation. Guess they flat out stated when it'd start. Missed that till now sorry.

Looks like it'll...

"It starts with Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15, NBA LIVE 15, and Dragon Age: Inquisition, but more are on the way. If you decide to buy the game, your progress will carry over so you can pick up right where you left off."

so yeah - it's legit temporary access to the games digitally so long as a) you have a membership and b) EA is still offering the title on EA Access. It sounds potentially cool for the right group of people but it just feels so questionable I can't help but be a little skeptic. Guess I could... try it for a month? God that feels gross.

EDIT: It's also the phrasing that sketches me out. You're given access 5 days before release, but in the same sentence it says "Access for a limited time" so is that like, hours? ie: can I play it as much as I want in the 5 day period, or do I get access to a 4 hour trial period to "try the game" given to me 5 days before release. EA has never been one for making things clear.

EDIT 2: As for DLC and discounts - I'd SURELY wager those only apply to games/DLC that isn't new. Like the current XBL sale, they'll likely give you discounts on all but the latest or something of the sort.

No, no, no. You're better-off just waiting until they announce what will be added after their first wave of sports releases. You don't want to spend twice as much for a try-out, spend that $5 on a rental of a non-EA game you're interested in instead or get a nice frozen pizza at a grocery store.

That will probably be the only way to get a discount on the Mass Effect 2 DLC ever.
I wonder how the vault will work. Will they rotate games out? It would suck if u are in the middle of a game and it gets taken out.

I saw Dragon Age on the list - at the very least I'd rather form my opinion on the overall quality and whatnot after i've actually used it rather than keep working off others write-ups and hands on time.

They already said that it's going to be different for every game. Two hour trial, early access to the full game, or anything in between, just depending on what makes sense for that particular game. The only thing all trials will have in common is that you'll be able to carry over your saved progress into the retail release.

I'm sure it'll give notice as to when the games will rotate out, but that would be awfully kind of them to inform us of. As for rotating games out that's exactly what they're doing. Says on their main page it's a rotating collection, and all the images have 8 games surrounding the EA logo - leading me to believe it's a rotating group of 8 titles.

Gross. I don't like that at all. Coming from the standpoint of someone who just isn't into sports games especially those from EA, Dragon Age and those sorts of titles grab me more, and are likely to be worked into a short trial rather than simple early access to the final product. That's the sort of thing I shouldn't not know at this point. I know how much it costs and the games they have up first, but I feel I'd need to dig for that particular bit of clarification.

Yeah, doubtless a story-driven singleplayer game like Dragon Age will be closer to a traditional demo where it only lets you play up to a certain event in the story. Full early access to a game like that just wouldn't work, because there would be people who would marathon it, beat the campaign in 5 days and then not purchase the retail version. It's just not going to happen.

The vault is an evolving collection, not rotating.

"Update: An EA representative tells us that the company has no plans on removing games from The Vault, which means the library of titles available will grow over time. Additionally, if your membership lapses, your progress will be saved should you decide to re-up later."

Which is why this service needs to be marketed differently. Right now, I've had countless people say "So netflix for EA games?" or "PSNow for EA games?" and that's clearly far from the truth. What a surprise that EA would prey on others misunderstandings.

EDIT: SPELINGS

My mistake - I would argue evolving would be chosen phrasing so they have the open option to remove any game they choose though. They wouldn't just constantly grow the value they're delivering to the consumer, I mean this is Electronic Arts.

Well Dragon Age Inquisition will probably be part of the Vault eventually. Just in 18 months or something.

There are really people who think that this is a $30/year subscription that will give you unlimited access to brand new $60 games? How does that make sense at all?

Not necessarily $60 retail new releases, but more of a Netflix style "X months after theatrical release" sort of thing. I was never under that impression myself, but when I mentioned it elsewhere those were the responses I got.

You will have access 5 days before release but you'll only have a few hours to play once you've started. They're not going to give unlimited access to these games. It's essentially timed trials like Sony does.

That's not what Sony does though. PS+ is full game access, not timed trials.

I was planning to buy FIFA 14 before this sale appeared. Its price is still surprisingly high, I could get FIFA 13 around this time last year for 20 Euros or so, now it's hard to find a new copy below 30, and the XBL price isn't very inviting either. So I picked up the World Cup 2014 game instead (21 Euros on the European marketplace). Yeah, it's said to be like a DLC for FIFA 14, but since I don't own it, I'm having fun with it. The gameplay improvements may have been in 14 already but it's all new to me, and the new gamemodes are fun. Also easier than usual achievements.

The downside, is that I'm having serious issues with online gaming. You can love or hate FIFA, but it can't be denied that each year it delivers a solid, working, enjoyable package, if anything it plays safe when it comes to evolving (as all sports games, really). However, I had an unreal amount of trouble with the online gaming with FIFA World Cup 2014. The game froze my console 4 times in multiplayer (as opposed to none in single): 3 times before loading a match (a gamemode simply does not work, 100% crash rate so far), once during. Also, 2 or 3 times the game got stuck in the loading screen minigame for several minutes, before going to the match telling me that, however, my opponent disconnected, so I can happily go back to the menu. Add to that the usual quitters that leave the match because they're getting their ass kicked, and out of 20 or so tries of a match I probably finished 4. Interestingly enough, this happened early in the afternoon: I played some Black Ops 2 with no issues afterwards, then I went back to FIFA, and suddenly everything was working fine (did not go back to the crashy gamemode though). Not sure if it were temporary issues, like server maintenance, update rolling out or what the hell, but I've never encountered such a broken mess in any FIFA so far, and this is the 5th time I buy one. Really hope it was temporary 'cause FIFA is a guilty pleasure of mine, one of my go-to online games as well albeit I always wait several months for cheapness. Would suck if it went the broken mess of unplayableness route in online gaming (there's already PES for that).

Making last minute money off games that will be free with EA accesses vault. Funny.

Tempted to purchase battlefield 4 premium with eventually getting battlefield 4 from the vault.

Soooo it's about that time brahs.

Xbox One Hard Drive is filling up....... Especially after the free GWG I think I will be done

Can you use an SSD?

Or some one give me a round up of intel lol
I was part of the testing on the preview program. The Xbox One doesn't really get the same speed bump from SSDs that PCs do. Also, the external drive you connect MUST be at least 256GB. You'd be wasting money to go for an expensive SSD, and getting less space out of the deal, than what you'd get by buying a conventional drive or drive + enclosure.

Personally, what I got was a 4TB Western Digital MyBook. It goes on sale on Amazon every so often for $129.99. The 3TB model of the same line goes on sale for $99 sometimes, and the 2TB version has dipped to $79 at times. For the money, and amount of space you get, you're getting more value this way.

You should post that one more time as I don't think you got your point across...

Since the sub. service is for XBox One only apparently, and the weekly sale is on games for the 360, you're really, really reaching here.

Does anyone know if digital XB1 purchases are similar to the 360 in that there's an account license and a "first console that downloads it" license?  I don't have an XB1 yet, but have picked up some of the freebies, so they're sitting in my XB1 download queue.  Doesn't appear to be a way to access that queue from the web, so if I were to go to a friend's house and log in on his XB1, I'm guessing that it would start downloading stuff.  I should then be able to access the queue and clear it out, but would whatever had started to download then be tied to my friend's XB1, requiring me to be online if I were to play it on my (eventual) own system?  Can auto-downloading be disabled from the console?  Since GwG XB1 titles require Gold status to use, I thought maybe it would require being online to validate, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Per Major's Blog Under Xbox One Deals:

Being wrong is one thing, being condescending is a whole nother thing.

Oh Damn I thought they discounted them all on both consoles.
Condescending would be if I'd asked him if he even read the post on weekly sales, or could read at all, or if this was his first day in the internet.

Instead I pointed out that the sales are on 360, and the EA service on XBO, and the suggested "connection" isn't entirely valid.

If the EA sub. service were for 360... I'd have to consider it. But there's no way they'll invest in the 360 platform at this late stage. Which is too bad. We (gamers as a group) have really had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the digital distribution age, haven't we? These are things that could and should have been around on the 360 honestly.

The battlefield dlc sale is also on the Xbox One. So connection totally valid.

The original connection was that EA is trying to sell games on sale that are going to be "free" with EA Access. Only 360 versions are on sale. That connection is invalid. Its getting confusing now and I think we need a chart with cute kittens explaining everything.

HGST Touro for $59.99 after promo code. 7200 RPM, USB 3.0, 1 TB, solid ratings on Amazon.

Know a number of people have been looking for something to make their Xbone larger lately and this seems to be one of the best options and $20 cheaper than Amazon.
Thanks guys yeah, I think 1 TB is alright for now. I mean hopefully...

I will buy this one.

The golden one is hnnnnng

Now eldritch, what do they always talk about when they say that the HDD should be self powered?

Can anyone touch up on that?

That it should plug into the wall, otherwise it's being powered by whatever it's plugged into through the USB port. The problem is that there aren't nearly as many options these days that do that (everyone wants portable) and almost all of them have really mixed ratings at best. Most drives that are USB powered seem to work just fine with the Xbone and WiiU still from what I've read. The one I linked I actually came across specifically because it was mentioned for use with the Xbone.

Theres an amazing feature calles home on xbox one which makes the licensing process way easier. Instead of having to download first on one console, you just set the console you want to share with as your home console. So how it work is theres 2 different licenses with xbox one. One for home console and one for your gamertag.

Yeah, like Knight said, there are only minor differences compared to the 360. However, since you can change your gamertag's home console at any time, this effectively removes the need for a "license transfer" when you buy a new Xbox (or the multitude of other scenarios). If you're going to be doing the friend's house thing, you'll set his console as the home Xbox for your account, for now, and then when you buy your Xbox, you'll re-set that one as the home console. Meaning you're friend could no longer play the games on his console because 1) Your account would need to be signed in, 2) You set your new Xbox as your gamertag's home Xbox.

Even if he has auto-download enabled in the new update, the license tying process will be the same, one for your gamertag, and one for whatever you have declared as your home console (which can be changed at any time).
