Not sure if I'm right, but is the most shard cost effective way to hit 28 to max an Exotic and upgrade only one Legendary to the 2nd to last upgrade (everything else upgraded until shards needed)?  I believe that is a shard cost of 28 resulting in 99 light.

I got all legendary gear aside from the helmet for my Hunter.

on another note, what's a good way to powerlevel new characters without fireteams?

So it's better to have a yellow helm than something like a set of Sunbreakers in terms of leveling up!
Unfortunately. I'd love to use my Sunbreakers instead - but unless I can beat Atheon on Hard with my Warlock that isn't happening. So I have the exotic helm maxed out and actually just got the Raid gloves last week - so the Sunbreakers go into storage for the time being. I still need to get chest armor (I'm using a fully-upgraded Queen's robe) and boots.

But that's why I'd like to try out the Atheon hard mode save that someone has. I want to see how much worse that really is. I breezed through Atheon with some randoms on normal a few days ago so the Raid is certainly getting easier (through experience). But hard mode without the cheese method may be a different animal.

So on my Warlock I am barely 29 and I have a fully-upgraded exotic helm and fully-upgraded Raid gloves (both at 30 light), a fully-upgraded Queen's robe (max at 27) and then my boots up to the point of needing shards (so 3 more upgrades). That puts you right at 29.

Nice little run there - we were able to do the hard mode oracle/Templar checkpoints with just 4 people, and no Warlocks (which would have made both parts easier/faster).

I finally got the Raid sniper so that was cool. I also got a second Fatebringer (Raid hand cannon) which is a pretty cool weapon. I still haven't gotten the hang of aiming with it, but it is pretty nice when the enemies explode because of it (which seems to happen about 1/3 of the time).

No gear - but there's always tomorrow ;).

posted in the PS3 thread too, but you should know too...

FYI,  the resets seem to be happening at 1am pst, instead of 2.

Noticed it Sat/Sun with the DST change and it happened again last night Sun/Mon.

So unless Bungie changes it, you'll have one less hour to get stuff done.

I'll start up the save prior to 1am and should have it at the Oracle checkpoint when the reset happens. Then hopefully someone can take it from me (and pass it right back).

While I still want to do a full Raid run Tuesday evening, we could just do the hard mode oracle/Templar since then you get both normal and hard rewards and those are the best checkpoints for Raid gear. It would be nice and simple and give us all the best chance for those.

So whoever I see on at 1:05 Pacific I will invite into the game. Hopefully one of you (or more) can be there.

Just beat atheon on hard. Can't believe how easy that is with a group of people who know what they're doing. We did it in like 4 tries. The other group I had last night took forever and we still didn't finish it.  I didn't get anything good though, just the ship and some shards.

Anyone doing the raid on normal tonight? I still need to get  stuff from the templar/oracles on normal before the reset.

This week I think I'm going to try to find a good group for Hard and just skip normal mode.  The oracles / templar trick last we did made things pretty simple.

The trick is finding a group that has their weapons all maxed, really.  Otherwise, the damage output probably isn't high enough.

I am down to do either tomorrow, but I'm guessing there are more than 6 people interested overall and most people want to run more than one character through so might be best to just run the hard mode stuff and then clean up the other parts later. Or maybe there is enough for 2 groups?

I would certainly be down with running the Oracle checkpoint up to the pre-Gorgon chest on Hard then starting over and doing the whole thing on Normal. If we get 6 I'd think we could do the hard stuff in 15-20 minutes and then the whole normal Raid in less than an hour.

We have to make sure we have the Oracle checkpoint after the reset though. Again, I'll be on after 1am looking to hand it off to someone.

Eventually I think we can try to tackle the whole thing on Hard. Or at least try to get Atheon for the helm reward. So maybe after we run the Oracles/Templar I'll try to get an Atheon save from someone.

honestly if you are looking to have a better chance at gear drops, you are better off doing normal first. why? because otherwise you'll get double drops from the hard checkpoint from the hard+normal item pool. which means there are fatebringers etc with a chance to drop, reducing your chance to get gear. people doing hard first for the double drop usually are 30 already and like the double "hard" drop chance.

Hmm - I thought you'd get the normal drop chance AND the hard drop chance, not double drop for just hard. Whatever you guys want to do though - if we are doing both it doesn't really matter. I just thought maybe we should get the Hard one done first in case we have some people drop or other issues (like my wife tells me enough is enough ;)).

Just basing it off what I've heard, Broly can pop in and provide us with insight from his runs

Yeah, he ought to know...

I'm getting on in a bit to mess around (need to level up my Hunter's Raid gloves though I don't have much in the way of bounties left till the reset). I'll make sure to load up the checkpoint just before 1am (2 hours from now) and then invite whoever is on. I'll wait a bit in case anyone remembers at the last minute.

I'm sitting at the hard mode Oracle checkpoint right now and no one seems to be on. I'll wait another 10 minutes or so then I'm bailing.

Otherwise just doing it on normal is fine.

I think you might be one of the few west coasters here. Did it save the checkpoint? I looked at the website and it still shows my progress in both raids and my vanguard marks from last week. Did it even reset or does it normally take a while to show up? Also did they sneak in Iron Banner? It is showing as the Live event on the website.

Bahaha nope!

As I was reading this I was intrigued myself and was hoping to find a clear answer but then it ended here haha :dunce:

My luck has been absolute shit lately so double zero is still zero. And the experience I have had with Hard stuff is that occasionally people who already beat the normal part of that Raid got nothing upon completion of the hard counterpart that week. Granted that is clearly another Raid bug, but I have run into it I believe three times now so it is worth noting.

I have heard the same thing myself though that you double dip from the Hard reward pool if it is your first time beating it that week. With the RNG being what it is there is no real way to test any of this stuff out unfortunately and Bungie is too focused on adding more bugs to a buggy game than addressing the main components of the game!

I actually caved and bought Advanced Warfare digitally last night and ended up still playing Destiny all night despite having nothing to even really unlock anymore at this point : P

Also, I know you guys are talking a bunch about Hard lately. If we have 30s I would be more than happy to jump in with mine and help out just let me know.

*EDIT*

I forgot last night I finally maxed out my Mythoclast so I am eagerly awaiting the patch that makes it kickass again haha. It is still a solid weapon now maxed but the fact that it carries so little ammo needs to be more heavily balanced with the strength. Either let us have a larger max ammo pool for it or buff its strength back up.

All I really want now is the Raid Handcannon and Fusion Rifle from Hard Templar which I am yet to freaking get. Some gloves for my Warlock would be nice so I could have some variation too and my Hunter needs some gloves and pants but I mean.. it is just a Hunter : P

Started third exotic bounty, this time I picked Bad Juju.

I'm about to hit 150 Vanguard marks, think I'll buy myself Shadow Price since I've never had a decent auto rifle. Last time I bought something with marks was Epitaph 2261, then the next day I found a purple engram and decrypted another Epitaph 2261. :p

So, yeah, no one was on so I lost my checkpoint. I jumped out at around 1:15 (and by the way saw the Iron Banner notice immediately when I went back to orbit at that point). Then I went back in and I was at the start. I wonder if I should have triggered the Oracles and then died and maybe that would have kept it but probably not.

BUT... All is not lost. I went into my level 30 Titan character and sat in the Tower hoping maybe I could find someone to do Nightfall. Instead I got invited into a group doing Hard Raid. They were a group that has run it 6 or 7 weeks and were missing a member so they invited me since I had a maxed Ghallajorn (and was level 30). Most of them were 29.

Anyway, it took us THREE hours to get past the conflux portion to get to the Oracle checkpoint. After about half that time some of the other guys switched to their level 30 characters (since there are no rewards from the confluxes anyway). Then they switched back and I also switched to my Hunter. So I have the Oracle checkpoint back on my Titan.

We did the Oracles/Templar super quick and I got yet another Fatebringer (my third in like 4 days). I also got ascendant energy which I guess was my "normal" reward. I can tell you that these guys were doing it strictly for Raid gear drops and they were pretty sure Hard mode gave you he normal+hard chances.

Then we managed to get through the Gatekeeper/Relic portal portion after another hour or so. At some point the game froze on me (first time that's ever happened actually) and when I came back in I used my Warlock. So I think I have the Gatekeeper save on my Hunter, though it might have been after that I'm not sure.

In any case, we got through that and it was like 5:30 AM and we were on Atheon. We were not able to finish that before me and some others had to leave. So I have the Atheon checkpoint on my Warlock. At first the party leader was trying some trick where people jump off at various times and it is supposed to freeze Atheon so the remaining people can kill him. We couldn't get that to work. Then we tried pushing him off the front and we came agonizingly close.

So, Gotdott, I think with our Warlocks we can do that so we should definitely try for that some time this week. Here is a video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ty9RNKBnvVw

Anyway, Hard mode was so agonizing at the confluxes that I am looking forward to breezing through the Raid on Normal with you guys. Then maybe afterwards we can do the Atheon push and the oracles/Templar. I want to do Atheon first since that is on my Warlock who I also want to do oracles/Templar with and I'll lose that checkpoint if we do it in the other order.

We should also probably pass some of these checkpoints to peoples alternates this evening too just in case.

I'm down. Depending on how quick that goes I may or may not be able to stick around for oracles. I should be available add after 7 central.

OK, we're sitting here at 4 waiting for the Raid.

We did the Weekly, killed the boss, and was in the countdown when we all got booted to Orbit (including Moose who was doing the Daily separately so it must have been everyone). We didn't get the rewards :bomb:.

Yeah destiny was not my friend this week. At least it went fast so I was able to pack. I think I have plenty of ascendant shards...

Well, 7+ hours of Raid during the last 24 hours for me (5+ with randoms on Hard last night + the CAG group on Normal today + the hard mode Oracle/Templar). At least I did get the boots for my Warlock. And the Hunter cloak (which was all I got out of the Hard raid). But I have those saves at least (Oracles and Atheon). I might try to solo cheese him and see if I can get the helm.

And oh yeah, my streak of chatterwhite continues. I've gotten it every single time beating Atheon except for the very first Raid that Broly led us on. I must have 8 or 9 by now - will definitely be counting them tonight to see.

So for the rest of this week I'm up for cheesing Atheon on Hard (with any of my 3 characters), and doing Nightfall/Weekly on my Titan and Hunter (only took care of the Warlock tonight).

Yeah I have gotten about 10 Chatterwhites at least and just break them down instantly. I am out of space in my Vault with all of my other shaders and emblems and stuff anyway!

And big thanks to got last night! I jumped on Destiny and hopped into his game as he just finished the Nightfall so I go a super quick and easy win with that and luckily it was on my incompetent Hunter so even better! : )

And when you guys do hard hit me up! Most of my other level 30 buddies aren't on as much lately and really the only things I need now are the damn Hard Templar rewards so I am down for whatever!

Thanks to everyone for running the raid last night.  I guess the 3rd time's the charm as I finally got a decent loot haul.  Picked up Suros Regime and Found Verdict, but more importantly got the Gloves and Chest piece I needed to max out my Hunter.  Also got the Hunter Exotic Helm that I already have from Nightfall.  Thanks to bear and io for running those with me.

That looks like fun. It'll be patched next week.

Amazing how quickly they can patch the exploits or overpowered guns, but improvements take weeks or months...

OK, so last night I got invited back into the group I did Hard raid with Monday night. That was kind of a surprise since I pretty much sucked when I was with them the first time. But maybe I wasn't as bad as I thought.

They wanted to finish with Atheon so I loaded up my Warlock and ran that with them. We tried to cheese him a few times and then just said screw it, let's do it legit. That turned out to be much easier. It helps that a few of these guys are pros with the relic though. I didn't have to deal with that part at all. We managed to get him after several tries. The time we finally did it I think we only did 2 or 3 portal runs. Some of those guys just unloaded Ghallajorn at him. I sniped with my Icebreaker from the bubble (placed in the middle platform).

I didn't get much out of it. I think I got ascendant energy and another Sparrow. But that is 100x better than another Chatterwhite. So that was the first time since the very first Raid I didn't get Catterwhite. And now I've only gotten the sparrows from Hard raids (once when Gotdott cheesed Atheon and again now).

Then they wanted to run the whole thing again from the Oracle checkpoint and I figured why not since the character I had left to do that on was my level 30 Titan so I wouldn't get a damage penalty. As long as it didn't go past 6am again I was cool with it (it was probably about 3 when we started the second part). I got more Titan gear from the Oracles/Templar but I already had all of that. Finally, at the end, which we did super-quick this time (like 4 tries and got him in 3 teleports - I recorded the end of it on my feed if you want to check it out), I got some decent rewards: Aspect of Glass (hard mode ship I believe), and the Helm! So now I have the full set of gear for my Titan. That's nice since I can now switch to Armamentarium or any other exotic besides my helm. I like my helm (the one with the lights on the face) but it doesn't have great perks.

I really want to get the Raid helm for my Warlock (need the cuirass too) so I can switch to Sunbreakers.

I still have the Atheon checkpoint on my Hunter. If you guys are up for trying to cheese him or even beat him legit I can do that some time this week. I also want to run my Hunter through the Nightfall/Weekly. Other than that, I just need to do relatively laid back stuff like leveling up gear (Raid boots on my Warlock and Raid helm/alternate exotics on my Titan) and weapons (Fatebringer and Praedyth's Revenge) via bounties and such.

I would love to get a Vex Mythoclast and the Raid pulse rifle (which I think is also a Hard mode reward) at some point in addition to the remaining gear for my other characters. So I'll still be up for raids next week. Hopefully I can get in with this other group on Hard again first thing after the reset. If so, I'll do that same thing where I use my Titan to get through to the Oracles, then switch characters so I have the Oracle save on my Titan and can pass that to one of you guys. Then we can run Normal like usual Tuesday evening.

Just wanted to repeat this list from before as I have found it to be pretty accurate. I've highlighted the stuff I still haven't gotten. Everything else I've managed to get (some multiple times) and they were all from the places indicated.

1st Chest
Ascendant Materials

Templar's Oracle Clear
Ascendant Materials
Found Verdict
Praedyth's Revenge
Raid Body (for my Warlock and Hunter)
Raid Gloves
Raid Feet (for my Hunter)

Boss Battle: Templar
Ascendant Materials
Found Verdict
Praedyth's Revenge
Fatebringer (hard mode only)
Exotic weapon (random)
Raid Body (for my Warlock and Hunter)
Raid Gloves
Raid Feet (for my Hunter)

Second Chest
Random component

**Bonus Chest** Only available if you defeat the Templar without him teleporting.
Ascendant Materials

Third Chest
Ascendant Materials
Legendary Class item (random) (I got all 3 class items)
Exotic Weapon (random)

Fourth Chest
Ascendant Materials

Gatekeeper Clear
Ascendant Materials
Corrective Measure
Hezen Vengeance
Praetorian Foil
Praedyth's Timepiece (hard mode only)
Raid Body (for my Warlock and Hunter)

Boss Battle: Atheon
Ascendant Materials
Atheon's Epilogue
Vision of Confluence
Exotic Weapon (random)
Chatterwhite (armor shader)
XV0 Timebreaker
Glass Minuet
Aspect of Glass (hard mode only)
Raid Helmet (hard mode only) (for my Warlock and Hunter)
Vex Mythoclast (hard mode only)

So really all I still want to get in addition to the Warlock/Hunter armor pieces are the Vex Mythoclast and Praedyth's Timepiece (which is the Raid pulse rifle I mentioned earlier). Then I'd pretty much have everything.

Just the helm. And it has been ascendant materials and chatterwhite ever since. I think I got two universal remotes somewhere in there... Which could have just as well been nothing if you ever used one. ;-)

I am this |   | close to level 25. Can't wait to start running things with you guys. Hopefully I will get there tonight and then be able to run some stuff tomorrow and Saturday night with you guys.
