My Disney Mega Pack purchase is paying off.

Purchase Price:  10 keys

Cards sold (including one foil) ~$14

Most of the games have rarely seen much of a discount, and the licenses definitely have collectors that have kept card prices at a premium. Even without the luck of a foil, you can easily knock $5-$6 off the price of the pack if you factor in card sales.

I say this in case anyone is on the fence about picking it up next time it goes on sale. Of course, each sale is going to drive down card prices a little, I'm sure. Should you decide to take the plunge, get in on it early during the sale because for some reason almost all of the cards took forever to farm -- some taking an hour or more between drops.

Been going through some games got to card idle (mostly) from bundles and figured post very short reviews of them. Figure most people already have them but maybe not played so meh. These are basically first impression, very few of the games make it to "I'll keep playing this," level.

Intake--For a game that I thought sounded interesting, then read more and thought it sounds really dumb, it was really fun. Very up tempo and very basic but has that arcade-y feel and that arcade-y desire to keep playing to do better. The first song in the game is really annoying though, they should have made the second song the first (as thus really should try to unlock it).

Frederic: Resurrection of Music--So far, it's really dumb but damn the gameplay part is run. It's basically guitar hero except you are dueling and using a piano. Loving it so far, and liking the music, despite the game still being dumb.

Full Mojo Rampage--Meh, about all I can say about it. Just found it pretty meh at best

ReignMaker--Conquest is okay, kind of fun. City management so far so basic as it's just a snoozefest. Feels like a mix of crappy mobile game and less fun Bejeweled.

Urban Trail Freestyle--Not sure where the freestyle is, it's Trails the same gameplay I'd assume in every Trails. Fun for a time killer, nothing I'll play a lot of.

Obludia--At best a meh, I thought it was really stupid. whack sword at stuff, kill stuff. Repeat over and over.

Also played This War of Mine, but that I actually want to play more of before really saying anything about it, it also isn't fodder so didn't really fit.

I asked my sister what my 13 year old nephew wanted for Christmas and he's trying to save up money for a laptop to play games on.  I then cringed inwardly when my sister said they got him one from Target.  The game that's inspiring him to get into PC gaming?  Empire: Total War.

I guess she took the game specs to Target and said "I need something that'll play this" and she said it was like $170 so I'm sure it's a huge piece of crap.  She's about as qualified to buy a PC as I'm qualified to buy a racehorse (I'll take the brown one!).  On the other hand, I couldn't say "I bet you bought a giant turd-computer" so I just said "If it doesn't seem like it'll work out for him and you return it or if he wants to get into making a desktop gaming computer later, let me know and I'll be thrilled to help."

On the bright side, she hasn't bought the game itself (which she would have done retail B&M) so I can talk to him this weekend about Steam and other digital retailers and Humble Bundles and make a CAG out of the kid yet.

For the price she paid it looks like they ended up sticking her with a Chromebook or similar thing. If that is the case dear God tell her to send that crap back right now.

I would imagine this is correct. It's tough to find an actual laptop for $170 and you can probably run E:TW on a ChromeBook, but probably not much else. Maybe Bad Rats. But I think you're trying to make the kid appreciate PC gaming not run shrieking in terror whenever anyone mentions it.

I'll be at her house on Sunday so maybe I'll ask to see it.  I don't disagree, but you'll all have to trust me when I say that if it's terrible I'll have to let her "discover" that on her own and make returning it her idea versus saying some nice version of "This was a horrible purchase and needs to go back".

Women don't like to be told that they're wrong. :whistle2:

All I got out of this is that it appears you're quite racist when it comes to horse buying

December 18th!

Hack'n'Slash + Spacebase for 1 key. Couldn't resist.

Buying Hack'n'Slash is cheapest way to get both. They had promo where they gave Spacebase for owners of Hack'n'Slash (and the other way around), but forgot to disable it.

It's giftable copy that appears in your inventory.

I never received my copy of Hack for owning Spacebase during EA, and any and all support in the game's forum has all but vanished. I mean, it's not like it wont be in the dollar tier of Humble's next (18th) DF bundle, but still.

I'm (legitimately) entitled, damn it!

DO THE RIGHT THING AND BUY YOUR NEPHEW A NEW PC. PC-BROS BEFORE HOS

Bundlestars Baman Bundle is good value for $9.99

  • Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition
  • Batman: Arkham City GOTY Edition
  • Batman: Arkham Origins
  • Batman: Arkham Origins Season Pass DLC
  • Batman: Arkham Origins - Black Mask Challenge Pack DLC
  • Batman: Arkham Origins - Online Supply Drop 1 & 2 DLC

Damn it, you're right. I forgot that she said "Acer" when I spoke to her. Man, that thing sucks.
The last work laptop i bought was an Acer and yep did it suck. Never again. For $200 she could have bought him an HP stream 11 or 13 inch and even gotten it in blue if he likes that color. Staples also recently had an Asus laptop for $150. Best of luck with that. Even though stores have extended return periods during the holidays, computers tend to have shorter return periods so let's hope that will still be an option after Christmas.

Well, based on knowing what it is, I think I'm going to try to find one or two other lower-priced laptops that would be more suitable.  I know I won't find a great gaming machine on the low end but I can't believe she can't do better than that and I hate the idea of her "big gift" being a disappointment two days later.  I'm not much of a laptop person so if anyone has a link or idea, I'd appreciate it.

Luckily, Target's website for that computer says it must be returned by 1/24/15.  It's unopened and new so that should apply.

Well, only if you didn't already have the first two games from the WB Humble. Origins should be ~ $5 for the Christmas sale and none of the DLCs are worthwhile except for "Heart of Ice," I mean, "Cold, Cold Heart."

You'd probably have to spend a minimum of $300-$400 to get laptop that's capable of running even low-end games. I've had good luck with the AMD A-series APUs for my kids.

Sounds about right from my recent research on the topic. And you can build a solid desktop for about $100-200 more than that.

The price of those metro redux games are falling pretty quickly. Definitely waiting to play 2033 until I get the redux version, heard it's a nice upgrade.

I talked her into the $300 range. Maybe a little more since he was asking me for money to save towards a computer so I might offer to just kick in my $40-$50 into the laptop budget.

I realize a desktop would be better in a lot of ways but he'd be starting completely from scratch (no monitor, keyboard, OS, etc) so there's no way to avoid blowing out the budget in that direction.

Wish I knew a week or so ago he wanted Empire: Total War.. wasn't that in the last Humble Bundle? :wall:

I've been watching the deals for cheap laptops that are capable of running games like Minecraft, Terraria, Pinball FX2, (my son has been asking for a laptop as well) and the ones that seem to feature most prominently in the $300-350 range have the A8-6410. These GPUs seem to rate better than the Intel HD 4000 series. The AMD's will be a little more power hungry, especially while playing games, but as long as he's going to be plugged in, that shouldn't be too big of an issue.

... huh. Looks like Steam is changing the store pages a bit.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/302110/

There's a dropdown option in that game page that lets you pick the game alone or the bundle. I think that's a bad move, the previous system was better.
Not a fan of this change. It seems harder to tell what you are buying and it messed up the enhanced steam regional pricing globe.

Save us jshackles!

Edit - Hmm not seeing this on any other pages.
