Ah, Pharm's is cheaper. I wonder if there is any real reason to get a particular one of these things.

Tyler's comes with a remote though, so probably worth the extra $3 to not have to bend down and switch it every time.
The one I have automatically switches. The link I sent you says it also switches. But like I said, I saw a lot of listings for similar ones. Just check out the info and I bet most if not all auto switch depending on which device is on.

HDMI Switch:

Not sure if this is the exact one I got, cause there seem to be a ton of similar for sale. But it has worked fine for me and it automatically switches with no issues I have noticed.

Whoa, I don't even need one of these and I'm still tempted to get one.

The one I posted auto switches too when it detects one of my devices is on. I've never used the remote before.

I'm sure some of you guys have ran out of HDMI ports at times. Any recommendations on something like a splitter I could use? Cheaper the better, of course.

Edit:

This one looks like it might do the trick:

I'd still appreciate more opinions, though.
I have this one:

http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=101&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011001&p_id=8149&seq=1&format=2

Works great, it's small, and autoswitches.

For what it's worth, I tried that same HDMI switch tyler has and it didn't work for me. Not sure if mine was defective or what, but it would light up on the right inputs and no picture would go to my monitor. I ended up returning it. Part of the reason my PS3 hasn't been on in months is because I'm too lazy to switch my cables.

I guess I am lucky. My tv has 5 or so hdmi ports, so I just have to switch the input I want to use on the remote. I figured most tvs have at least 3-4 these days.

edit: sorry, my tv has 4 hdmi ports

So can anyone speak for ACIV Freedom Cry? I want to pick it up but I'm reading the stand-alone version is glitchy but the DLC isn't. The DLC isn't on sale for $6 for some reason. Dumb.

Vig:

have you seen the rest of the screenshots for JC3?

This is the one I've got:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008D6YZXG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Looks basically just like Tyler's but 5 inputs instead of 3. I've got my dvr, ps3, ps4, and chromecast going into it. The only problem I've had is that sometimes the chromecast updates and restarts itself at 3 or 4am and then it automatically switches over to that when I'm up super late playing games on the weekend. The dvr is never really "off", so the remote is good when I'm switching to that. Before I got that one, I tried one that looked kind of like the one pharm mentioned, but it just didn't work right if there were multiple inputs that were on at the same time. Don't know what the problem with it was.

I am pretty sure the HDMI switch I have only auto switches if you only have one device on at a time.  Its cheap for a reason.  If you want multiple sources on at a time you gotta pay more to get a less basic switch.

I am surprised how many of you guys are using HDMI switches.  Am I the only one with a HDMI switching receiver?  Do you guys use a sound bar for sound or just the TV speakers?

Man, I kind of want to get Dragon Age.  I really shouldn't since I won't play it for a million years (probably not before there is a better sale for it) and I should just save my money for something else.  But then again, it seems really cool and I might regret passing it up.  Stupid life problems.  Now replace dragon age with red death exotic upgrade.  Stupid destiny problems.

Wolf of Wall Street is on Netflix, if you have 3 hours to watch debauchery then check it out.

My blu-ray/surround sound set up only has 2 outputs. So if I want surround sound, and of course I do, I only have those 2 ports to use. One goes to Directv, and the other was for my PS3. So now with the PS4 I have to switch all the time.

I think the TV itself only has 2 ports as well.

I think the best part of those leaked Sony emails is Joel McHale emailing an exec asking for a discount on a TV.
That is pretty funny.

I just got caught up on those leaks. They really weren't that bad. That chick really blew it on the Steve Jobs pic. Then there were those stupid comments about President Obama (why the fuck are they putting that in email? C'mon people. I don't put anything the least bit sensitive in an email) but that's about it.)

Really more than anything, the takeaway is just that there are dumb people everywhere. I think people tend to glorify big successful companies just because they're successful and assume everything runs smoothly all the time. No place of employment is like that. You're going to have to deal with morons, sometimes super powerful morons, no matter where you work.

Couldn't find your original post, so replying to this one.

Went to Target. 3 red and 3 pink DS3's on clearance, but marked at 41.xx. Took to price scanner, and sadly came up as 41.xx. I was set to pick up a few at 20.00.
You quoting that Shenmue post reminded me what I wanted to say about it. I tried playing it before (I was late to the Dreamcast, bought it well after I bought my PS2) and I just can't see how it can be any fun at all these days. It was boring to me when I first tried playing it, and I can't imagine that time has been very kind to it.

If this is your your problem you might be able to solve it another way assuming your TV has a couple more ports than you expect (2 sounds really low). Does the surround sound setup have an optical in? If so, does the TV have an optical out? If you answer yes to both then you could run all things to the TV and just use an optical out from the TV to the sound system. It should take the video off the HDMI and output the sound via the optical connection to the sound system. That all falls apart if you are port bound on the TV though.

I'm pretty positive it only has 2. It's a cheap Insignia, unexpectedly had to buy one when the LCD was cracked on the last one so we weren't really prepared to buy a TV. I'll double check though. I am also pretty sure the surround sound setup has optical input.

We just moved into a bigger place. We are having some work done in the basement soon so the house isn't setup right just yet. I have a large TV in the living room and one in the bedroom. My surround sound system isn't hooked up as the plan was to put that in the basement. We have the TV in the bedroom wall mounted and long story short only one HDMI cable is snaked in the wall right now. I can't find my other one that is long enough to work. Also it is a bit of PIA to snake and would only allow me two devices. With a HDMI switch I can move stuff around as needed and not have to worry about getting another long cable or two and snake it up the wall.

For less then $10 it will give me a lot of flexibility. I do plan on getting a sound bar for the living room and maybe the bedroom TV but probably just go with the TV speakers there.

I just use the tv speakers for my sound.  I've never been an audiophile or anything.  My mom had a pretty decent Sony surround sound system when I lived at home but I never even bothered to turn it on.  I also share my living room wall in my townhouse with an old retired couple so it would be kinda of obnoxious for me to get a booming surround sound system.

Yeah, mine is by no means audiophile quality. I am not sure my ears can really tell that big of a difference in general, but TV speakers have always been so cheap that the sound just ends up all muddy to me. I wish sound bars were a thing back when I took the leap and went with the 5.1 setup. I would have got one of those instead and saved quite a bit of $ and time running speaker wire. Now that it is there, seems stupid to go back to that though.

I just tried posting another too long winded post about speakers and CAG just spun.  I refreshed and it all went away without posting.

We Fixed CAG!

Just got an Outlook.com email reminder that it's Stotch's birthday tomorrow.  No idea how it got there.  Maybe cuz I have him on Skype and that syncs up somehow or something.

Anyways, happy birthday Stotchy.

I'm rocking an old Sony 5-disc DVD carousel surround sound system.  The sound is still pretty aces and it can get nice and loud when I'm blowing shit up.  Not sure what I'm using to connect it to the TV, but I think it's just AV cables.  I've only recently started thinking about updating it, but it gets the job done enough and I have my PS3 to play blu-rays so I don't need that to change.
