Preorder Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition for $59.99 (GS/Amazon/BB); Collector's Edition $79.99 (GS exclusive)

That's rather depressing considering it's $40
Yeah but they raised the level cap to 40!

I'm probably going to bite on the Legendary edition and trade-in it in to Amazon. Seems kinda shady to do so since the DLC is in 1 code, but hell if I'm paying $60 for all the DLC packs. It's bad enough Bungie still hasn't put in proper matchmaking / LFG tools.

Im going to hit the pawn shops this weekend to see if I can find a cheap Destiny disc since I still have my expansion codes. I can wait for TTK to be released as a stand alone buyable item

Isn't that like only 5 more levels if you count the Light levels?
That is correct. The first DLC raised the lvl cap to 32, and the second increased it again to 35. Each of those DLCs was $20 each. So $40 for 5 more levels makes perfect sense if you take those facts into consideration. ;-)

Of course I'm being sarcastic. Hitting level 40 is easy, as evidence by people hoarding bounties before release day and then turning them in all at once today. However it still takes a lot of time to level up all subclasses and related skills.

What does this reference? Are you trying to trade in your Redbox rental?
Redbox does not have "Not for resale"

Aye, but such little content being billed as as big as the original is depressing to say the least.

Though it's what, 50% as long as the original

Umm yea, I dont even mess with my PS. It's in a backpack in one of my closets. I recently took it out to play BLOPS beta and now packed back up. In all honesty I need to get rid of it
I find it a good system, but if you're really not using it then why no get rid of it?
Mine is also my media center

So, how long is the new campaign?
The original was like 5hrs from beginning to end + strikes (No raids)
Campaign missions alone are 3-4 hours and that's with no strikes. There are also a lot of side stories outside of the main one that add more hours to your play time. Personally I think it has been worth the money based on how many quests I keep getting and most of them have a lot of parts to them plus the raid that is coming plus patrolling the dreadnaught

If one is a hardcore Destiny player that does all the multiplayer stuff (raids, PoE, etc.) including Crucible, then yeah it's a good value. But if you are a casual player and don't care about all the multiplayer focused content, it's not worth the $60 in my opinion.

Sometimes I wish Activision simply charged a small monthly subscription fee instead of going the DLC route since Destiny is a MMO, but they probably figured that would dissaude too many gamers.

Well no duh it isn't worth $60 if you aren't doing over half the content.

I've never done a raid, hate crucible (though I played it for a day to get Invective), and haven't opened up PoE yet and have like 220 hours into it. So for me it's been worth every penny regardless.

I did all but the raid content in the original release and subsequent releases.

Still was only 5hrs for the original, and like 30min-1hr for the first two xps.

This new one being 3hrs still semi depressing but you already said it's only the main missions and not the side other missions or etc.

Destiny's biggest strength, other than its shooting mechanics, is its multiplayer co-op. If you're not doing any multiplayer at all on it, it's realistically not a worthwhile game IMO. It's pretty lacking in single player content, even after the first 2 expansions. But the co-op really makes the game, I would have probably spent only 15 hours on it instead of over 200 if the co-op wasn't there.

Much of the content IS force co-op though.

Strikes at the minimuim, raids are required.

So the game is just destiny and everything else is dlc codes?

Well screw it, I'm a buy it at BB and trade it in on amazon.

Should be no problem right? or is their a chance they will deny it once they find out everything is dlc codes?

I'm pretty sure they can't deny it. They have it on their site........

nice just wondering, placed an order and will prob pick it up tomorrow.

And just to make sure the regular edition for 59.99 comes with dlc codes for taken king and the first two expansions right? All i see is unboxing videos for the collector's. I'm sure they're the same but would be nice to know before I open it up.

What's going on?
basically buy the game at BB ($52 for me) and trade it in at amazon ($34 xbone) and keep all the dlc for $18.

Considering what they were going for...it should be assumed much of the content is built for co op play. Would be way too easy if raids could be done solo and if strikes were super easy to do solo as well. They do let you get through the story solo. Mmo style games are meant to be played with groups of friends and that's how it is built.

I can't believe you guys have never done the raids. That's where the most fun is. It's not like it's some deep riveting story to unravel. Have you ever used Destiny LFG? You can always find people looking for other people there and eventually you get people who you play with on a regular basis.

Didn't know 6 people with Destiny

I did know 4.

So I decided to go for it since getting $34 from Amazon was too tempting and owning the digital version made it easy.  A few things though.

1. I swear the total download was supposed to be about 60 GB.  I am sitting at like 34 GB.

2. First weird glitch was making me turn in old quests from the beginning and quest for gaining certain levels.

3. It was disheartening to see green weapons almost the same level as my exotics. I know I know.

4. I did like the little bonuses you got for being a veteran player.

5. Speaking of that I was given an engram by the Cryptarch and it was Thorn...I think Bungie is trolling me.

For some reason my suros pack was waiting for me at the tower. Maybe it's included in the TK code? Not sure but I got them somehow.

Been hearing a lot of positive buzz so far and I like it. I might need to dive back into to Destiny once deadlines are met.

Has anyone gotten a chance to play the "Remixed" strikes? Are the old version of said strikes still around?

Heads up to those of you buying the :Taken King Legendary Edition or the PS4!

Best Buy in their weekly ad is giving out tshirts to every person who buys a copy.

BUT:
Mine were not in the front or by customer service or even in the gaming section.
They had them on a table in the Home Theater Section, by the TVs Section (might be at the center back table for your store for TVs, mine was not in Magnolia)

And of course Gamer's Club Unlocked is 20%, so $48+ tax game and tshirt if that tempts any of you

My store only seemed to have L and XL, and they only had about 10 total shirts, so just in case.

That combined with the TIV for the TTK edition $34 at Amazon was a no brainer for me to buy now, ill just keep my Vanilla Destiny Disc

48-34 = 14+tax for DLC and shirt!
Thanks for this and the tip about where had to hunt a bit but found it in the TV section, wasn't even going to buy till I saw this post plus tiv lol!

Yeah, the two raids and the battle with Skolas in the Prison of Elders are ingeniously designed in terms of the teamwork they require to complete. Probably the best I've personally experienced in any co-op game.

Yup, picked up my regular copy for XOne from BB after work. There's actually two codes, one for all 3 DLCs and another for the Vanguard early access weapons pack.

If there was a TTK specific collector's without the first season pass' contents, I'd be more interested, but fug paying full price for this.

For the collectors items it's worth it. $80 for everything the steel book and the strange coin... Or $60 for Taken King digital and emotes...... I have digital PS4 and collectors for PS4. Worth every penny

So I am a little disappointed in the decision to incorporate The House of Wolves and The Dark Below into the main storyline with the TTK expansion.  I am sure it is great for a new player because it makes the game a more cohesive experience but as someone who stopped at about level 28-30 and it playing again it sucks.  Those missions are now leveled way below me or way above me.  I either have to choose to play them first at level 10-16ish or play TTK first out of order to level up to a point where the hard level choice is possible for the other 2 DLCs.  I am sure this is standard practice for games that evolve like this but it definitely makes me feel like I won't be continuing after TTK.  I just do not like feeling if I do not play the DLC on day one that eventually it becomes useless.

Anyone know the trade in value at Hastings for this? Wondering if they made the same mistake as Best Buy and Amazon
Their website lists it as a $40.25 trade in value, so I took it in yesterday and their system said they are not taking it in for trade in. I figured if there was one store that wouldn't know any better, it's Hastings. But nope.

Destiny has a pretty friendly community where it's not hard to meet people. I only knew 1 person when I started playing but at the peak of the game I had 15-20 people I was playing at least semi-regularly with.
How did you go about finding people? In game? or a website? I got hooked on Destiny, but had to ignore Vault of Glass, Crota's End, and the Prison of Elders :( Kind of want to at least get through Crota's End before Taken King fight, which I'm sure I'll need a team for as well.

There's a few sites out there, just search for Destiny LFG and try starting your own runs -- you're sure to run into SOMEONE that'll run you through them.

I found a couple of other players through, r/Fireteams ( just search Reddit Fireteams),
Great guys, helped me get through a tough Prison of Elders.
You can search Destiny LFG also and find players there as well, and of course there is the Destiny Sherpas to help you get through Raids.

There's also a couple of threads here on CAG - one for PS4 and one for Xbox One.  We're pretty active in those.

the100.io has been the absolute best for me because I can set the times in advance and plan what I'm going to be doing.  I wasted a lot of time on LFG trying to get a group together and refreshing.
