Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Watching "Listen to me Girls, I'm Your Father." (I hate that title) I'm enjoying it. Oddly I'm not creeped out by the 14 year old's crush on her uncle since it's only one way.  I'm 5 episodes in and it's been a very sweet story despite all the taboo fan service of 10 & 14 year old girls. Hopefully it doesn't turn out like the manga version of Usagi Drop.

I remember watching the Usagi Drop and then reading what happened after and that almost ruined it for me.

You're good with the series, but there were two OVAs released after. First OVA is ok. Don't watch the second one.

Raika is best woman.

finished season 1 of Baka to Test, damn this anime had me laughing. started season 2 yesterday. i also finished all the weeklies.

I just watched everything besides the last OVA. What was wrong with it?

Also watched the finale of Working!!!. It's finally on CR. Great ending. Finally a show that ties up lose ends and gives you the ending you want.
everybody dies

AFAIK, this wraps up the anime series. The anime is based off a light novel series (I think it might have ended, too) and there are also a few manga spin-offs for it.

To spoil the 2nd OVA and possibly the series
Yuuta and Sora end up getting married. Raika loses.

fuck....

Yeah, I'm done with it then. Raika was best girl. I really did enjoy the show. Also noticed there was an episode 13 where they all go to the pool. I was wondering when they would get to the trope. And the scene where
They tried to tell Hina her mom & dad aren't coming back got to me. Poor Hina-chan.

Welp... now I'm on the hunt for something else till next season starts up. Off to CR to do some research.

That's how I felt.

Yeah, Trying to tell Hina mom and dad aren't coming back was gut-wrenching to watch. It's one of the reasons I had some hope it wouldn't go down the road it did.

I didn't mind how they handled the 2nd OVA. Four years in the future the ghosts of the girl's parents come back to check on them. Hina gets sick and you see how everyone comes to together. The parents give their blessings to the whole thing and go to the other side. It could have been worse, but the Yuuta/Sora marriage still ruined the show for me.

Also finished up Fruits Basket finally. Now I moved on to Yourself;Myself. It's been good so far. I don't know why I'm so into rom/coms at the moment. It's becoming a guilty pleasure.

Now that you finished Fruba, I can tell you why a second season wasn't made in case you were curious.

A smaller reason is that in the beginning, one of Tohru's possessions was a dirty red hat that was erased from the anime version, but it plays a significant plot point later in the manga.

The stuff with Kyo also happened earlier in the manga.

But the biggest reason was the series finale where Tohru visits Akito. In the anime, when Akito gets mad and assaults Tohru, the others come to defend her. In the manga, they DON'T. One of the biggest running plots in the manga is that Akito is the Sohma's absolute ruler and nobody is allowed to defy him in any way. A significant portion of the second half of the manga is the characters trying to break free of Akito's control, which the anime version nullifies. This pissed the original author greatly and she forbade any future anime from being made.

There were other, seemingly smaller but became huge later, changes that happened that the author wasn't happy about and she and director Akitaroh Daichi did NOT get along at all.

I guess I'm in a rom/com mod now. I still have "Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu" in my que. I'll get around to it after I finish Yourself;Myself. But any & all recommendations are welcomed.

I watched the first episode of Baka to Test and it wasn't my thing. Was there any point continuing with it if I didn't like episode 1?

Monster is amazing and the dub is a good one. It gets slow at points but worth sticking with. Enjoy it.

Thanks DNukem for the Fruit Baskets info. The anime felt rushed and it definatly seemed like things were left out. Is Akito the dragon? I don't remember the anime saying he was. Maybe I missed it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Some of those I've seen. I got 5 episodes into Perfect Insider and thought it was boring. All the needless philosophical banter came off as pretentious. I did like the intro.

I liked Chivalry of the Worst Knight (or whatever it's called). Still it's just another uncompleted story and I'm not sure if we get another season. How does it compare to Asterisk Wars? They looked very similar.

No, Akito is not the Dragon. I am so, so, so tempted to give a spoilery hint for the secret Akito is hiding. I will say that both the Japanese and English dubs screwed up their versions of Akito, but the reason why wasn't revealed until long after the anime ended.

I highly recommend reading the manga. A lot of seemingly unimportant moments in the beginning have big ramifications later on and later on Yuki joins the Student Council and brings a host of new characters that change things up.

Go ahead and spoil it because I'm not reading the manga. I have such a huge backlog of comics, books & games. This is something I will never get around to read.

heh, nogizaka haruka is my gold standard for shows that follow a formula perfectly and thus create something that isn't bad but isn't good in any way.

it's an enjoyable waste of time but at the same time I can't think of any scene that left me annoyed or excited through out the entire series lol.

Akito's actually a girl. Her mother forced her to hide her gender because Akito was taking too much attention from her father and mommy got jealous.

Shigure is also far more manipulative and works everybody to make Akito his.

Yuki actually met Tohru when they were kids, but eventually allows Kyo to have her and gets with one of the Student Council members.

The dragon is actually Hatori, who turns into a seahorse since the Japanese name for seahorse is "sea dragon."

Momiji hits a growth spurt and discovers the secret to dispelling the curse, allowing him to be free far sooner than most everyone else in the manga.

Chivalry of the Worst Knight is more rated R, and not a harem. but just boy friend/girlfriend relationship, without special abilities. asterisk wars is a harem, but with an interesting world n story.

Baka to Test is a funny anime theres your typical romance/school in there. but the main plot IMO is that school academics isnt the only thing people should be "rank" on. if you enjoy comedy you will enjoy this

I watched a few episodes last night. It's like you said, gold standard. I have a check list (in my head) of tropes I'm marking off. But I'm enjoying it. As corny as they are I'm a sucker for these shows.

But Chivalry was totally a harem. Even though he choose a girl mid season there were still several girls wanting the -D.

Fruits Basket:

The manga does sound better than the anime. No wonder the author hated it so much. I'd like to see a remake held closer to the source one day. And yes, I am a rooster. Too bad they didn't get around to introduce all the zodiacs in the anime.
But Kyo ends up with Tohru? I was certain Yuki was the guy.

Well, the manga keeps the triangle going for a bit, but eventually Tohru's motherly nature to try and heal Kyo's broken spirit gained some ground, and after Yuki made up with his brother and split off from his parents, he decided to grow up and move on.

No, I was saying Akito wasn't the dragon; he was the rooster.

Edit: Maybe not? I recall a sparrow.

Akito is the God of the clan. She doesn't turn into any animal. The anime never introduced the Rooster's character.

starting watching Monster i finished ep 5, damn the suspense thus far is good. im enjoying it
I binged on Monster about half a year ago. Such a great mature anime, I wish there were more like it. Are you watching sub or dub? I thought the dub was pretty good.

Only one episode left in Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu and I see they made a second season and 4 OVAs. Good, I like this series and intrested to see more. But this show really does cover all the rom/com tropes & cliches. But it does it well and I like the two mains.

MCs meeting as children / Check

Simple and dumb misunderstandings / Check

Drunk older sister / Check

Hopeless romantic middle aged teacher / Check

School festival and bonfire / Check

The sparrow was what the guy cursed with the rooster changed into, though his curse was broken by the time the manga took place, they also did not cover the horse, of course.  Hatori was the dragon, he changed into sea horse because I think in japanese mythology they were believed to be partially formed dragons.  I honestly felt like she phoned in the Kureno (the rooster's) character development, it felt like she didn't care very much about him
(fruits basket stuff)

Finally caught up on Dragonball Super. It's not as bad as when I first watched the first few episodes, but I still prefer the movie versions of the two arcs so far. Doesn't help that even for a weekly anime the fighting has been awful and the animation crap.

i stop watching it at the middle of the Lord Beerus battle, Goku just turn Saiyan God, after that it was the Freeza arc? now are there doing some short of story or fillers?

Still on Freiza but it seems to be coming to a close in a few episodes. I didn't hear anything about fillers. After Frieza there's Champa's Arc. From what I read this sounds more interesting.

Super is like a guilty pleasure. I don't hate it but damn is the quality bad. The movies are defiantly the way to watch these stories. Roshi and gang get some cool moments in the movies. Something we haven't seen in a while with the original crew actually kicking some ass.

ahh okay, sounds good if theres no fillers. i already had enough fillers with Naruto Shippuden aka Fillerpudden. ill start DBS when the Frieza arc is done

Well, there are fillers, but it's a slice of life type thing. The Beerus vs Goku fight has a TON of filler thanks to the different circumstances in the fight. After that arc, there's a filler episode about Mr. Satan and then two or three episodes of Vegeta and Goku convincing Whis to train them.

The latest episode is Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku vs Golden Freeza. There have been minor changes to the fight from the movie version but it's unknown if the effects will be long lasting.

I will say that if you like Gohan you will hate the series version of Resurrection F. I don't know why Toriyama likes shitting on Gohan but it's getting annoying.

Gohan getting nerfed is the worst part of the show. So the dude doesn't train for like what? A year or 2? Trunks and Goten don't seem to have aged all that much so it can't be too long. Even Piccolo should've been able to do some damage to Frieza before his transformation. His power level after he fussed with Kami rivaled that of a Super Sayin. It just makes no sense.

I just hate the idea that Frieza trains for just a few months and comes back stronger than Majin Buu. Which is one of the guys his father warned him never to fight.

Just finished One Punch Man and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the few times I wish the series/season was 24 episodes.

No idea what to watch after that...

They made an OVA about how he got his costume if you haven't seen that yet. It's okay, defiantly a weaker entry to the series but it's something. Last season didn't have much. The new Gundam IBO has been surprisingly good and if you have an interest in sports anime Haikyuu!! has been a lot of fun.

Watched the first two episodes of Demon King Daimao. What the hell am I doing with my life watching all these harems?

Anyone can recommend a Crime/Mystery manga for me to read?
My wife loves crime/mystery stuff. I remember she read 20th Century Boy and said it was amazing. She keeps bugging me to read it. I really should someday since it's done by the same guy that did Monster and Master Keaton.
