Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Having just finished chronological order for the entire series today...the ending was disappointing. Felt unfinished :( Fun little series though, but I can definitely see how broadcast order would have been more entertaining.

Next up: BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad or Detroit Metal City?

Damn, already 7 episodes in. Is it too late to go back? I am enjoying it.

did you watch the movie as well?

it's actually a solid movie and feels like a better ending as it continues after the series and does a whole new arc.

that being said it still isn't a proper ending either way as the all the story didn't get adapted.

I wouldn't recommend the yuki spin off that recently aired though... it's garbage :/

I haven't watched the movie, no. I'm guessing it's called The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya?

I was looking at this anime shirt design on The Yetee yesterday and had trouble identifying a few of the girls. Can anyone fill in the gaps?

Can't believe you don't reconcize Ryoko from Tenchi in there. The girl in the other corner is Saber from Saber Marionette. Girl on the bottom is Aisha Clan-Clan from Outlaw Star.

Ah, that's Aisha Clan-Clan on the bottom. That makes more sense than Urd because of the hairstyle.

I haven't seen any Tenchi yet. It's somewhere in my backlog ^^;

So still need verification if that is Kuroyukihime in the back between Misty and Mami, the girl sipping tea, and the girl eating a cookie to the right of Rukia.

I think it's

Lime

Misty

Narusegawa Naru (signature antenna)

Tomoe Mami (curl twin tails)

Sakura Kinomoto

Gintama girl

Asuka Lang..forgot her last name

Ryoko

No idea... might be Asuna

Ryuko

Mikasa

No idea...

Saber

Haruhi Suzumiya

Hinata

Rukia

Mio

Sakura

Konata

Aisha

I think the one I was missing is Saeko from High School of the Dead. Not because she really looks like her, but I'm 99% sure the uniform is from HSotD.

I looked at it and my mind immediately made it green and white, and it's not Kagome or the Girls und Panzer girls.

So, I stopped watching Dragon Ball Super after episode 5. Did they seriously spend 18 episodes on Battle of Gods?
It's so odd the way they're handling Super. But it's new Dragon Ball so that in itself is reason enough to watch.

I'm well into the Dark Tourney arc of Yu Yu Hakusho (episode 33). I've come to realize I love any tournement arcs in anime. They've always been the best moments.

they are milking it for at it is worth :p

and enjoy the yu yu tournament, series gets weird after that but still enjoyable.

The girl in the back people keep calling Naru Narusegawa is Mutsume Otome from Love Hina, recognizable because she has TWO antennae, and she has a slightly clueless, happy expression, instead of a determined/angry one. http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mutsumi1_8492.jpg
Na, Naru looks like that sometimes too. It also looks like she has side bangs, while Mutsume doesn't. And it's very unlikely to have a minor character representing Love Hina versus Naru. And Naru also has two antennae.

The face looks like Naru, but the hair is more Mutsumi. I do lean towards Naru since Mutsumi usually had her eyes closed.

Doesn't help that Akamatsu's designs for them have changed since the manga and anime was released (though not as drastic as A.I. Love You).

Been catching up with Naruto Shippuden after getting Sets 5-20 from MovieStop for $100 a few weeks ago.

Aside from the 8-Tails vs. Pain fight being as bad as I had heard, how exactly does the Gaara filler episode fit into canon? There's not enough time in between the Konoha Invasion arc and the Tea Country arc for the episode to take place, the alliance doesn't jive with the Sand team-up in the Sasuke Retrieval arc, and Sasuke is wearing his blue outfit for some reason.

Then again, pretty much all of these Part 1 flashback fillers are awful.

So is Yu Yu Hakusho still worth watching after the Dark Tourament? Is it down hill from here? If someone says stay with it I will.

Starting the Endless Eight episodes of Haruhi. Am I in for a treat or torture?

Endless Eight is torture.

Chapter Black is really intense, but the resolution may feel cheap. The final arc exists solely to tie up loose ends.

Have you enjoyed the series up to this point and a shift in tone and a dip in focus be a huge turn off?

I still enjoy the rest of yu yu i think it's a fun watch from start to finish, but the next arc gets really weird and the finish is just not where you expect the show to go and is a bit rushed.

Basically this. I enjoyed it throughout, but the end was really rushed. But it didn't matter, cause it was just becoming typical shounen "It's over 9000!" stuff anyways.

The last good story line for YYH is the Chapter Black saga, but it's not as good as Dark Tournament, three kings was stupid IMO

Maybe I hyped myself up too much for Digimon Adventure Tri. I dunno. All I know is that I did not enjoy this first batch of episodes.
It was OK-ish on its own, but the series shoving anything 02-related to the side causes lots of continuity snarls.

For one thing, the series treats Digimon as if the public has never heard of them. Never mind that Myotismon had a very public battle in Season 1, the Digital World appeared in the sky around the world soon after, Hundreds of people saw Omegamon fight on the Internet in Our War Game, dozens of DigiDestined helped the main characters fight very public battles in the Digimon World Tour, and hundreds more were given Digivices after Malomyotismon was defeated. You can't cover up the existance of Digimon anymore.

Speaking of 02, not once in any of the episodes did any of the 01 kids even show one iota of concern or even mention the 02 guys. Even if they don't know they fought Alphamon, shouldn't they have tried to contact them at some point? And why does Not-DATS not tell them about the 02 kids?

Also found it kind of lame that MetalGreymon, WereGarurumon, WarGreymon, and MetalGarurumon appear with little fanfare. I mean, the new evolution sequence isn't great (and has 0 connection to the original sequences, another annoyance), but I wanted to see a new Warp Evolution scene...

EDIT: Also, I find it funny how Takeru wonders how they will get home when in Season 1 they all just rode Ikkakumon or Kabuterimon everywhere.

Got through the Endless Eight episodes of Haruhi. At first it was okay but after a few episodes it's excruciating. I think the concept was clever and I would've liked to see progress being made in each episode rather than literately seeing the same thing over and over.

yup. thus why I typically recommend just watching 1,2 and 8 of it.

but think of it this way, going through it like that you can start to feel what yuki feels.

plus just think of this as a fan, the second season was announced with 14 new episodes. imagine the feeling as endless 8 is going on and you figure out that over half of your new episodes are the same eps over and over MWA HA HA HA HA.

seriously. screw who ever though it was a good idea to take a very tiny story from the novels and stretch it into 8 eps.

That's sort of why I stuck with it and didn't jump to the end. It was getting hard around the 6th episode but I guess I wanted to experience it the way it was intended. So when Kyon finally broke the cycle it felt like I accomplished something too. Yelp only 4 episodes left now.

Been a long time since I agreed with so much in one place. On a more superficial level, I was pretty sour about no Joe/Gomamon screen time too. Sure it'll come, but it certainly added to my dissatisfaction at the time.

For someone who never watched Digimon is Tri worth my time? I see it's super popular on CR.

Finished Haruhi. I can see why watching it in broadcast order might be more enjoyable since it ended on such a "meh" note. It was a cute show that did a lot of wierd things. Like staying on a shot of Yuki reading for like 3 minutes. But I liked it for the most part.

The whole thing is based nostalgia,so it probably won't do anything for you.

Well, Tri also tries to deconstruct Adventure, so it is basically a merging of Adventure and Tamers. Several areas get destroyed, the public turns against Digimon, and there is a shadowy government organization that has been intercepting rogue Digimon that try to cross into our world. Taichi spends most of the first four episodes worried that Greymon will kill somebody accidentally and Joe has to choose between his dream (which he is failing at) and helping his friends. Basically his role in Movie 2 played straight.

Also, Kabuterimon's grey parts being dark grey instead of light grey just seems wrong.

2 episodes into Serial Experiments Lain. Please tell me it gets better because i'm not really enjoying it. It's really slow and I don't think I can take another dead stare from Lain or pans of powerlines.
