Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

I believe the artist of Death Note and Bakuman is currently working on Black Clover, though I think it's a different writer.

So I finished my binge on Bakuman and Ioved it. Surprising this came from the same team as Death Note since they're night and day. I heard they have a new work coming out this year. Excited to see what they make.

But now I'm without a show to binge on and I'm trying to fill that gap. I watched the first few episodes of Baby Steps but found it kinda boring. Can anyone recomend if I should stick with it or perhaps recomend another anime (preferably 50+ episodes) to watch?
I personally really enjoyed baby steps but it is a slow burn. once you start getting to the actual matches it picks up and has great pacing with the matches but if you aren't enjoying the technical stuff of it you might want to drop it.

Since Kill La Kill and Sword Art Online II ended, I can finally respond.

So a 15 year old with boobs bouncing out of her little bikini is super tame?
Pretty tame compared to Kill La Kill which has many more people out of clothing. For crying out loud, the last episode ended in an orgy.

I found the first arc of SAO 2 to be entertaining. The pervy scenes are mild and I just wrote them off as something for middle school kids to fantasize about. But if it's swords you want the second half gets back to that. However it's not very good.
And yet again we have a pervy villain in SAO 2. Too many ridiculous moments in this show including the last "arc" which involves a certain disease. This anime also has the worst hospital in the history of anime. Only in SAO do we have a nurse who says "I don't know what killing is".

At least Kill La Kill doesn't have a boring Gary Stu main character.
Who is Gary Stu?

kill la kill is okay only got 3 or 4 eps into it. but Akame ga Kill is awesome! .

@cage107 if you dont mind subs then go with Akame ga Kill .. theres eng dub of Highschool of the dead is another good anime.
I'm actually watching that on Toonami right now. Liked the first couple of episodes, but I'm losing interest fast. I got a kick out of the guy who looks like Space Dandy though.

There's another show I'm enjoying more on the channel called Michiko & Hatchin. Hopefully Parasyte next week is good.

It seems your interests are "trapped in a video game genre"

Sorry, cant help ya there.
There's a much better show than SAO. It's called .hack//sign.

BTW, did you finish watching Deadman Wonderland? I think it lost steam near the end but was otherwise good.

I did. I really enjoyed the first few episodes. Kinda reminded me of Battle Royal. But near the end it changed it's focus and I didn't enjoy it as much. They should've stuck with the whole "death games" stuff and build up the prisoner society and point system that was only mentioned in like one episode. I thought that was more interesting than anything else. And of course it ends without closure.

Really enjoying Bakuman so far. I can definitely see myself watching season 2 immediately after, depending on how the first season ends.

Without spoiling anything it ends on a high note and jumps right into the next season. You shouldn't be disappointed if you're enjoying it so far.

As for the end of season 3 I was they had at least one more epilogue episode. You just become so invested in the characters I wanted just a little bit more.

When I first started watching I got maybe 6/7 episodes in and wasn't really feeling it. Revisited it a little later and loved the show. The soundtrack was really great in that anime.

Decided to finally work off my anime backlog. Started with Freezing.

...Are all the upperclasswomen in this series such bitches?

EDIT: Scratch that. Is there anybody besides Satellizer, Aoi, and their two buddies who aren't sadistic bitches?

no

Just finished season one of Bakuman, really enjoyed it overall. Diving straight into season two tomorrow, can't wait to see where this goes. I already have a few plot elements in mind but we'll see what happens!

one punch man. I will check some others out eventually but I was busy with work/jury duty so haven't yet.
You got jury duty too? I just got my summons in the mail today.

Watched the first epsiode of Asterisk War. It was okay. Just your run of the mill high school battle anime. The op was good.

I got it back in august for sept 14th.

filled out the forms, said it was a bad time, they gave me a two week move so it would be oct 5th instead.

checked my numbers and I had to go in and be interviewed for it. I was not picked, but now at work is the busy season and even though I am part time I work 8 of the next 9 days for a total of 60 hours (starts off with 5 8 hour days, one day off then 8/4/8)

Not a big Gundam fan,but the new series started out pretty well. The fight actually had tension to it,which I had with the Gundam series I've seen(hard to have any when you have MC's who are super OP,and tear through the opposition like balsa-wood. I loved the camaraderie between the characters, who are a likable bunch so far.

One-Punch Man is fun so far. The production-values are insane, and it use of dynamic angles during it's fight's are excellent.

i recommend Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider

Apparently there is a new Cyborg 009 series coming and JAM Project's doing the opening and ending. Also, the main bad guy is apparently Go Nagai's Devilman.

This is a really weak season. Nothing that intresting. But I did watch a few new shows:

The Perfect Insider - A little boring, really didn't like any of the characters. But I'll watch another episode.

Gundam IBO - I really liked it. Sticking with it. Finally a good Gundam?

Mr. Osomatsu - I found it amusing. Loved all the anime refernces.

Peeping Life TV - WTF is this shit. Only got 3 minutes in.

Am enjoying it a lot so far. From the few Gundam shows I watched, the good ones are the ones that don't have Tomino, writing or directing(the guy is the George Lucas of anime). Also like how this one uses nanomachine implants as the reason for elite pilots, instead of the newtype nonsense. Still early,so it could go either way.

Also watching One-Punch Man which is pretty fun. And Garo season 2,which other than the music,is mediocre in everything across the board.

I'm two episodes from finishing Bakuman...and I don't want it to end! Great series so far. No idea what can follow after this series, but I'm open to suggestions.

Maybe Shirobako? It's very similar but deals with making anime instead of manga as the focus. It's a slow start but it ends very nicely. Only 24 episodes I think. It's got that same sense of pressure for deadlines and busting your ass to make something you love.

That's on my list, though I'm open to other genre's to keep it fresh.

So, I just received Oh My Goddess vol 48 in the mail, and read through it, and a really big hit of melancholy hits me.  I've been collecting this manga since 2000.  It was the first manga that I collected, and holds a big place in my heart.  I have the original flopped versions of the first 20 books, and I plan to hold onto these until my son is old enough to read them, and even longer, because I loved this series.  I've completed many series in the time I've been collecting this (Fruits Basket, Buso Renkin, Sailor Moon, Chobits, and many others), and ft feels weird to finish it.  Anyone else have those feelings when finishing a series?

I had that feeling when Naruto ended. Started it with Chapter 8 back when the print magazine was still new and even with all the good series in it, Weekly Shonen Jump feels kinda empty without it.

Y'know, some Shonen manga attack names just don't translate well. "Flower Heaven Crazed Bone Spirit Withered Pine Love Suicide" is one of them. "Pillow of Shame" is another.

Finally decided to check out The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and so far, I'm really enjoying it. Light and funny (so far at least) and my general mood is happier during my morning commutes :D

Just don't watch the Endless Eight. There's a reason it took years to continue the franchise.

Some anime I've been watching lately:

One Punch Man - Just as awesome as the manga, but for some reason Genos looks rather flat compared to his manga design.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans - Probably the best start of any non-Build Fighters 21st Century Gundam series.

Freezing - Season 1 ended well, but the first half had way too many mega-bitch upper classwomen. Season 2 was good as well, but the fact that Louis was allowed anywhere near Satellizer is a huge wallbanger.

Naruto: Blood Prison - A pretty good Naruto movie, even if it clashes horribly with the series. Though I have no idea how Naruto and Girl-of-the-Movie were able to do anything they ever did without a stomach, liver, intestines, and likely collapsed lungs.

The Last: Naruto the Movie - An excellent movie, even if the romantic moments between Naruto and Hinata were super cheesy. But it's also nice to see a more mature Naruto and really contrasts well with how the character started.

Heavy Object - Interesting show. First episode was pretty laid back, then the second episode features mass slaughter and graphic headshots. But I like the dynamic between the main characters and I hope we see more Heavy Object battles.

Asterix War - Doesn't really do anything we haven't seen before, but it's fairy entertaining and the visuals are nice. I do appreciate that Julis knows when not be so tsun tsun.

I'm actually on Endless Eight as we speak. I've been fast forwarding to the endings to see what changes. I think I'm about half way through them right now and plan to polish those off tonight so I can get back to regular episodes tomorrow for my commute.

I think next I may try out One Punch Man. Hearing good things about this one.

There are no changes. The only episode where literally ANYTHING is different is the 8th episode when they break the loop.

No changes, true, but they rehash the episodes with different recaps/versions of the various activities. Either way, I just finished the last Endless Eight episode so now I can move on with the series :)

Also, I think I'm going to pass on One Punch Man until the first season is complete. Instead, I'm going to give Beck Mongolian Chop Squad a try after I finish The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

actually plenty of things were different, they had different outifts each time, often pacing of lines were different, from time to what they had done in the episode changed ect.

I'd say it's worth watching eps 1,2 and 8 as 3-7 don't change enough but those 3 do to be worth it.

That's exactly my thought on these "Endless Eight" episodes as well. 1, 2, and 8.

This season is pretty shitty unless your interested in any of the number of sequels/spinoffs.

Garo:Crimson Moon:

An interesting train wreck so far. MAPPA,just doesn't give a fuck with this show so far, which is a shame cause it has the pieces to be quite good. The animation dips into Ninja Slayer quality at numerous points(difference here is it not being intentional).

Gundam IBO:

Am enjoying it quite bit so far. Nothing really deep(no Gundam show is)but it's very entertaining so far,and the cast of characters are likable.

One-Punch Man:

It's doesn't make me laugh, but it puts a smile on my face.Fun satire of the schlock known as the shonen genre.

Yeah, this season was a bust. One Punch Man, Gundam IBO & Haikyu!! 2 are they only new shows I'm into.

I watached the 1st episode of Perfect Insider. Maybe I should give it another shot.

So now I'm going back to completed series. Thinking about giving The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya a go. Hear some good things about that. Also i'm 5 or 6 episodes in Hyouka which isn't bad, just a little boring. I think I can take only soo much High School drama at once.

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was alright. Watched the first 4 episodes. Kinda reminds me of "Actually I Am.." as another "high school monster secret club" genre.

Just curious, but are you watching it in chronological order? It's more exciting the first time watching it in broadcast order.

And Haruhi pre-dates Actually I Am by a decade. Although I haven't seen it, it doesn't sound that much alike. Haruhi is focused almost exclusively on Haruhi.

I'm just watching from episode 1 and on. I heard something about a chronological order but that sounded like a pain. I most likely wont be watching it for a second time.

It was released on disk in chronological order. If the first episode is a school festival, you're watching broadcast order. If it's hair cutting, it's chronological order.

if you are watching both seasons chronological order skipping eps 3-7 of endless eight is the way better watch. broadcast order was interesting but the story is a lot more enjoyable in chronological order. still hoping we get a proper full haruhi chronlogical order release. The release of two different seasons without being order is garbage for watching in order on dvd :/

episode 0 of the series originally had me drop it as it was just dumb, it's actually a fun watch when placed at the right spot in the second season.

I guess I'm watching chronological then. The first episode had a moment where Haruhi changes hairstyles every day and once Kyon acknowledged it she cuts her hair the next day. Should I not be watching it this way? It seems fine so far.

Also I think it's time to start Yu Yu Hakusho. It's one of those shows I never got around to watch.

Yea, that's chronological order. IMO, it's more interesting to watch in broadcast order if you know nothing about the characters, but since each of them already introduced themselves by now in chronological order, there'd be no point to change.

The worst part about S1 chronological order is that the last episode becomes extremely boring, while broadcast order ends with a relatively big event.

Episode 00 was the same. If you don't know the characters and watch that first, you're just like "wtf is going on?" Then you eventually figure out all that really happened in it on a second watch, and you can appreciate all the inside jokes. Basically, you sort of watch it from Haruhi's POV and then Kyon's POV.
