Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Just relized "My Love Story" (Ore Monogatari) is almost done. Only a few more episodes. I really liked this rom/com. I love how they bypass all the build of becoming a couple and just get to it.

Getting pretty far into Monster. I watched 8 episodes last night. I'm glued.

Anyone have suggestions for more adult oriented anime? Doesn't nessercarly have to have violence or sex but something geared for adults without the high school element. Examples like Monster, Space Brother, Planetes.
I will have to think more later as my brain is shot right now, but Gungrave (from the creator of trigun) and basilisk. I also found Mnemosyne to be an interesting little watch. All of these have a decent amount of violence (basilisk has the most, Mnemosyne next and finally gungrave)

I'm sure there are more I can come up with but I will likely need to sleep first lol

I would recommend 70s/80s/90s Anime movies. Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, Golgo 13, Lensman, Record of Lodoss War, Escaflowne (technically high school or college) Fist of the Northstar (Did they ever release the full series? I remember when I was selling the VHS, they didn't have the full series.) Basically anything on "Manga entertainment" on VHS was probably an adult oriented series/movie.

I've seen just about all of those. 90's was when I was really big into anime so I've seen most of the good stuff from that time. FotNS is up on CR but I'm not sure if it's the complete run.

The Escaflowne movie was horrible though. Same with X the movie. Both had horrible pacing problems. Both have series that were much better received.

There's New Getter Robo, which has loads of ultraviolence and a theme song by JAM Project. Speaking of JAM Proejct, Scrapped Princess is also awesome. There's also Samurai 7, Intrigue in the Bakamatsu, Spice and Wolf, Emma: A Victorian Romance, Rose of Versailles, and Psycho Pass.

So what's good next season? The only new shows I have on my radar are One Punch Man & Haikyuu! 2.

I hope there's some gems to come but this fall season seems weak.

I did my list of shows that are new last night and there isn't much of interest. one punch man is a must watch, beyond that only the following stuck out as shows that could be okay that aren't sequels

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru (seems like it could be what the american TV show bones would be like if made in japan :p)

Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider (seems like it could be an interesting horror)

Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai (less so than the others but it's slim pickings)

Concrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou (new bones anime but feels like it will be going more for style than story)

Gakusen Toshi Asterisk (less so than the others but aniplex does decent light novel stuff)

overall the fall season looks like crap especially with such a solid summer season, but alas I have stuff like doctor who and the flash coming back so it's not a big deal.

i personally prefer this for anime season stuff as they have a lot more details and links to previews and what not.

Finished Monster a couple nights ago. It sucks when you finish a long series and I'm in a transition of finding something new. Thinking about starting up Gintama again. Trying to think of another series I want to visit.

Also started watching the new season of Lupin III.

I watched Perfect Blue for the first time the other day. I really liked that movie.

I also started to read Pluto which is pretty interesting so far.

The actual list was mostly good, aside from OG Deathscythe being #3 and Wing Zero being #1.

The main problem was the clips used. They had clips of Shining Gundam during the God Gundam segment, Deathscythe had a bunch of shots of Wing in there, Destiny's entire clip was of Impulse loading the Sword Silouette, and Wing Zero's segment didn't have a single shot of Wing Zero.

Welp, this season is wrapping up. Sad to se shows like "My Love Story" "Food Wars" & "Working!!!" go.

I want to start a long series so I'm thinking of starting Bakuman. Anyone recommend it?

I would, all the great drama of death note but grounded in mostly reality and about manga :p

Thanks guys. I'll start watching it soon.
np, btw if my comment wasn't clear enough the series is created by the same team that made death note. If you enjoyed how the drama was set up in that you likely will enjoy bakuman as I really don't know how but they manage to recapture that same tension perfectly even though it's about meeting deadlines instead of life or death situations.

plus it was an enjoyable story from start to finish. Death note has the higher high points, but it also has the lower low points. I can't wait to see what this team does next though (sadly they seem to have gone off to do their own little projects right now)

Grew up watching DBZ. Seen all of the manga, watched all of the anime. Neglected the original Dragon Ball until today. Watching the first episode now.

After I'm finished with that I will watch GT. And catch up on Super. Sounds like a plan. :bouncy:

I was aware that it's the same team as Death Note. I re-watched DN several months back and really enjoyed it so I'm sure I'll get into this no problem. I did watch the first episode last night and liked what I saw. It's nice to have another anime to binge on. In fact I became aware of the show when my wife told me they're making a live action version of Bakuman.

Dragon Ball is great. Especially theTenkaiichi tournament arcs. Some of the best anime ever. Don't bother with GT. It's trash and not even cannon. But if you really want to just watch the last few episodes. But I suggest to skip right to Super. It's been lackluster quality-wise yet I find myself enjoying it nonetheless. It's like seeing a family reunion. It's impossible not to have a good time.

A Phoenix Wright anime is coming in April! Yay!
While I am hype for the announcement, I am very wary when it comes to video game to anime adaptations. I'm gonna guess it's gonna be the first game, then they will make more depending on the fan response.

Just finished SAO (first season) on Friday. Definitely enjoyed it more than Log Horizon. The second arc wasn't as good as the first, but overall it was an interesting and fun anime with a satisfying ending.

Now...to find a new anime to watch on my 2+ hour commute each day. Would prefer dubbed as it's just too early to read subtitles some mornings.

Ideally, I want something funny with some action. Not much boob or cleavage if possible seeing as I'm on public transit. Any suggestions?

Enjoying Bakuman at the moment. 15 episodes in now. The main characters are likable, and even though it's about high school students it doesn't feel like it.

Hmmmm. Assassination Classroom seems to fit the bill. I believe the dub just finished on Funimation. It's got some boobie parts but it's not rampant and it only revolves around one character. Think the Substitute anime version but the teacher is like a Goku/Superman power level alien. It's a fun watch.

I would say Space Dandy but that gets pretty heavy on the sex at times. There's no nudity or anything but lets just say the MC favorite hang out spot is a bar called "BooBies"

And I'll throw in one more. Devil is a Part-Timer. Not sure if there's a dub of it. One of the few anime I found genuinely hilarious.

I tried getting into Space Dandy, but just couldn't. As for Assassination Classroom, I had a hard time staying interested in the first episode, but I intend to give it another go at some point in the future.

I think I'm going to check out OverLord now that episode 11 has finished. Hearing great things about it and I love Madhouse.

I want to say school rumble, though that is a lot more comedy than action.

I don't think the iregular in magic high is dubbed yet otherwise I would say that.

full metal alchemist is always good, mix of comedy and action.

Azumanga Daioh, Cromartie High School, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, and the aforementioned School Rumble are some of the funniest anime I've ever seen.

Sadly, most anime comedies released over the last 5-6 years have at least a decent amount of ecchi, as they don't seem to sell otherwise.

Boob jokes? In Desert Punk? Why, such an upstanding series would NEVER resort to boobie jokes.

Gonna chime in with two recommendations.

If you like that abridged style humor, then you will probably like the dub since they changed mood of the plot compared to the original Japanese plot.

If you can look past all the lewd humor, the crude humor is pretty funny.

Could barely get through the first episode of OverLord. Will set that aside for the foreseeable future. Ended up starting Bakuman on Friday. First episode was alright. Nothing great, but not boring. Hoping the next few episodes are more interesting.

Watched Tekkonkinkreet recently. It felted like I was watching some animator's ego trip, since it was focused some much on it's visuals, but it's direction was lifeless along with a ton of cliched and shitty dialogue. A chore to sit through overall.

I'll agree the first episode was boring but Overlord gets better. It just fun to see Momonga be so goddman OP.

I'm well into the 3rd season of Bakuman. In fact I was watching it right now and it's so good. It's rare when you get to see an anime character grow out of middle school, to high school, to college then into adulthood. Plus all the ups and downs that go with a creating a popular manga. I only have 15 episodes left and I'll be sad when I'm finished.

Watched the final episode of Charlotte..... what a piece of shit. This show couldn't find an identity up to the very end. A shame since it started out strong.

Good to see Wagnaria!!! (Working!!!) is getting a special 1 hour finale. Hopefully Popura grows an inch and we can get a happy ending.

I got a minute or so in. As soon as I saw it was a game thing I stopped watching.

For me, the opening episode was just dull. I had zero interest in the main character or story. And that's saying something considering my last anime was SAO (which I enjoyed). Either way, the first episode really lost me. Going to see how Bakuman goes. I also have Shirobako queued up to watch after I (hopefully) finish season one of Bakuman.

The whole premise just stinked of otaku-pandering and wish fulfullment bullshit,so I didn't even bother(even more so with the Gary-Stu main).
Often it just makes up it's own bullshit world rules which I do find annoying. We still don't understand the reason behind being trapped, and it's never really addressed., unlike SAO. But you could say it's a guilty pleasure so I'll watch it.

Sorta like Log Horizon. Like being trapped in the game is enough. It's just lazy writing.

Can't say am a fan of lazy writing like that. Anyway I finished Gangsta. recently. That was great up until episode 7,after that show just got plagued with production issues. The show was never a looker, but boy oh boy was it bad. They introduce the Hunters who look like they belong some schlock shonen series. Then the ending which is not conclusive on any level,it felt like any other episode. Disappointing at the end of the day,but it's high points are excellent(episode 7 was fantastic).

I am not caught up on it (only though ep 3 or 4) but it's a shame to hear the end isn't great. I was hoping this would be the breakout hit that Manglobe needs so that they can make the last season of the world god only knows :(

instead it will likely fall in line right behind samurai champloo as their most successful show. I am hoping some day they get a run away hit as I enjoy a lot of the stuff they make such as champloo, world god only knows, Michiko to Hatchin, and Deadman Wonderland.

I stopped watching after episode 7. I was getting a little lost in the story and wanted to wait for the dub to finish. But I may just abandon it now that I hear people saying the ending sucks with no chance for a second season.

------------------------------------------------------

Dragon Ball Super ep. 12

Favorite line in the show:

Goku: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Beerus: RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Seriously it was 20 minutes of them yelling with cut aways to Bulma and crew. And the art is still horrendous. Toei, why do you do this to me?

----------------------------------------------------

Prison School ep. 12 {END}

I felt bad for Hana even though she's the biggest bitch in the entire show. She obviously has feelings for Kiyoshi, even though it involves a lot of pee pee. But some of those angles and positioning were borderline porn. Can't believe a live action show is in the works.

So I finished my binge on Bakuman and Ioved it. Surprising this came from the same team as Death Note since they're night and day. I heard they have a new work coming out this year. Excited to see what they make.

But now I'm without a show to binge on and I'm trying to fill that gap. I watched the first few episodes of Baby Steps but found it kinda boring. Can anyone recomend if I should stick with it or perhaps recomend another anime (preferably 50+ episodes) to watch?
