Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

2 episodes into Serial Experiments Lain. Please tell me it gets better because i'm not really enjoying it. It's really slow and I don't think I can take another dead stare from Lain or pans of powerlines.
It's that slow. I tried three times to finish it. I never did. There was a point about half way through where it starts picking up for like 30 seconds. Then it goes back to slow.

I've said it from the day it was released: It should have been a movie.

Thanks. I think I'll drop it then. All the conversations seem unnatural. Every time someone asks Lain a question she just stares into space not saying anything. It's really weird.

Finished Clannad: After Story...

I laughed.
I cried (a bit).
I got angry.

So many emotions! It was a good story, though I didn't like how it progressed at a certain point. But overall, a great experience. I don't think I would watch this season/arc again, but the first/original I wouldn't mind owning.

Up next depends on your opinions. I have three series I'm interested in right now;

1) Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun
2) Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)
3) White Album 2

Only one I've seen is Nozaki-kun and I'll vouch for it. Really liked that show. Shame it was only 12 episodes. I really hope a season 2 comes.

I second this vote, though I have seen some of hell girls (I got tired of the same formula used every episode quickly) and I might have seen some of white album 2, but if there is a white album 1 I saw some of that and it didn't catch my interest at all.

nozaki kun is great though.

I was in the mode for a rom/com so I started up Fruit Baskets. I got 3 episode in and it's okay so far. I do find the main character a little annoying because she's so damn positive, nice and humble. But the twist with the zodiac cousins is different. I'll continue to watch.

I also intend to get back into Gintama. It's always stop and go with this one. Start it up for a couple episodes then drop it for a few months. I always hear great things about this show and how it gets really good later on.

Lastly Dragon Ball Super is getting better. Last episode was interesting as it differs from the Resurrection F movie. Still, Gohan got robbed. He's  just a little bitch now. Makes me look back on his fight with Cell and just cry.

to be fair....

if the main character wasn't so damn positive, nice, and humble, she likely would have offed herself because life constantly just beats her down >.<

All caught up on One-Punch Man. Loving that animation. Surprisingly, my wife is having a harder time waiting for the new episodes than I am. Probably throw Gangsta into the mix this week too.

Now I'm even more intrested in Fruit Baskets.

One Punch Man: Road to Hero OVA came out. Haven't seen it yet but looking forward to it.

well seeing the first episode you should already know.

she has no place to currently call home

that her mother died and all she has left of her is a picture

and her temp home (a tent) was destroyed in a landslide.

there are a number of events in the series that continue to crap on her, but the series is done a lot like her personality, focusing on the few good things in her life in a sea of pain and suffering.

to be fair the series does a good job keeping the pain and suffering to the background thanks to the main character, but really, she has had a crap life and makes most of the other anime girls that complain about how crappy their life is just seem pathetic lol.

I still really wish they would do a full version of fruits basket, but alas the manga creator detests the anime version and likely would never want to work with anime companies in regards to fruits basket again.

5 episods into Fruits Basket and it's grown on me. Very charming. Especially the last episode where Kyo & Yuki go "rescue" her from the evil aunt & uncle.

20 episodes into Gintama. I ussually dont find anime humor "laugh out loud" funny but I caught myself chuckling a few times.

hello people, dang i havent been on here for some time. hows everyone? what are you currently watching???

right now im watching

One Punch Man

Noragami Aragoto

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry

Comet Lucifer

i just recently finished Corpse Party

from every single gintama fan I have talked to... you are now past the meh episodes of gintama and should be hitting good episodes lol.

i got to episode 20, and then stopped, and have been told many times that is when it finally figures out what it wants to do lol.
lol, i got all 6 season just sitting there in my HDD when i see how many ep i got to go i just feel discourage and watch a different anime. lol

I'm about to find out if this is true. But I watched a couple episodes last night and have no complaints. So I guess it's all up hill from now on.

OPM OVA was okay. It's pretty much the origin story of his costume.

So is Blood+ ever coming out on bluray? Or at least being reissued on dvd? I really want to watch the series (not on the computer), but I think part one has been rare for years (IIRC).

for the english speaking market both are quite unlikely. the best you can do is

The entire series is available for free streaming in the US on Crackle, Hulu, and Netflix. (from wikipedia)
but yeah part 1 has been super rare for years as it's the only way to get the last disk of the first half of the series :/

as far as I can find no info is known about how long the license is for, though sony did originally do a special deal to air it on their japan anime service. best guess would be a 10 year license which would actually be up pretty soon so another company might be able to snag it.

I would love to have it properly added to my collection as well as while I have part 2. the only version i have of part one is a bootleg version someone tried passing off as legit that skips repeatedly :/

So I'm 20 episodes into Fruits Basket and I'm finding it a little boring. But I'll stick with it. It has it's moments and I'm almost done. I just have a feeling it's one of those shows that  isn't going to have much of a payoff at the end.

Any recommendations for another rom/com?

Yea, Fruba is a bit of a slow burn and the conclusion is not very conclusive since the series not only covers about 1/3 of the manga, but stops before the really fuck ed up shit starts.

As for other recommendations, I don't watch many romcoms, but have you seen Step Up Love Story?

I have not seen Step Up Love Story. I'll look it up. EDIT: How should I watch it? I see some OVAs from 04' and a more recent one in 14'.

I own GTO. Seen it several times. Amazing show.

have not seen Step Up Love Story. but i a good recent rom-com is Ore Monogatari , if some one into rom-com or wants to watch a rom-com i suggest that one. right now im watching Angel Beats i think im 7 or 8 episodes in. i want to finish it this week and start Baka to Test

Ore Monogatari is a great rom/com. I like the fact that the two main characters become a couple by the 3rd or 4th episode. So you don't get the whole cliched misunderstandings or tsundare shit for 24 episodes. You actually get to see a real relationship develop.

Same reason why I liked Golden Time. The two main characters hooked up relatively fast. Plus it was a nice change to watch a couple have a serious discussion about sex without it being awkward.

Couldn't get into Baka to Test. I got halfway through the first episode and had to turn it off. Just not my thing.

Currently checking out The Seven Deadly Sins, and so far, enjoying it. Nothing amazing, but it's fun so far and a great distraction during my daily commutes.

I figured my spoiler would give people more reason to watch it.

Syn: Give Nozaki another try. If you don't like it by 2 or 3 episodes drop it. But it seriously has some funny moments in it. BTW have you seen Barakamon? That's another genuinely funny show that gets overlooked way too much. It's more of a comedy/slice of life.

I'll give it another try on the near future. I've just been on a dub kick lately. I sit in front of a computer all day, the last thing I want is to read subtitles in the morning and at night on my way home.

And Barakamon is also on my list. Heard good things, just haven't gotten around to checking it out.

then wait a few months as nozaki is getting a dub next year :p

I hear ya. Reading subs off my tiny tablet can get annoying. Sometimes I prefer a shitty dub over subtitles just because I'm to tired to read.

Also have you seen Princess Jellyfish? The dub is good and quite the charming show.

Not really a spoiler but probaly the best scene in the show

That's awesome, I'll definitely be waiting if that's the case.

I'm very forgiving with dubs. It has to be extremely shitty for me to watch with subtitles. And yes, I've seen Princess Jellyfish and yes, it was quite charming and funny :D

I loved Princess Jellyfish but haven't seen the dub yet. I'll have to check it out!

Started Gangsta last night. Real cool vibes from that show. Has some Bebop feels about it.

Yea...if anybody doubted the power of Yokai Watch in Japan, doubt no more. It apparently beat Star Wars in theaters this weekend.

One-Punch Man finale had the great animation I always knew it would. Really fun scenes, questionable closure, etc. Hope to see more. Love that shit.

Also finished Gangsta, which was kind of a heartbreaker in the end. That's a hard episode to have as the last.

One Punch Man ep 12 was awesome. good fight scene and as always they put some nice comedy. the ending scene with Tornado was funny.

i have not watch Gangsta, waiting for a BD batch to be release. i think i would enjoy it.

also Triage X has a BD batch from Ipunisher i have not watch it.

OPM ep 12 animation was jaw dropping. Are we getting another season down the road? I would imagine this was successful enough both here and overseas.

Also excited about JoJo part 4.

most likely in 2-3 years. It's likely another attack on titan situation where while it was a run away success there isn't enough content to consistently make new anime so they will have to wait a few years for the manga to get farther out to have another proper season.

That's what I figured. I heard the anime caught up pretty close to the manga. As long as the quality is still there I don't mind a wait.

Finished up Chivalry of a Failed Knight. Very similar to Asterix Wars but I think Chivalry was the better of the two. It did some unexpected things and often broke away from the tropes these high school action anime tend to have. Of course it ends mid way through the story. If it does get picked up for another season I would watch it.

Now it's time to catch up with Ace of Diamond. I'm like 5 or 6 episodes behind.

I watched the final episode of One Punch Man and then proceeded to watch Dragon Ball Super. What a huge gap in quality. I like Super at times but it's almost a joke how poor some of these fight scenes look. I just want Freeza to be over so I can enjoy some new content.
