Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

demon king daimao is very disappointed , it started off well.
if u liked demon king daimao, i suggest watching strike the blood similar harem like anime

watch toyko ghoul or parayste anime
I will drop Demon King Daimao. Noticed it was 12 episodes which ended in 2010 while the manga didn't finish till 2013. That means this is another unfinished story. Since I wasn't loving the show to begin with I'll pass.

Right now I'll focus on Gintama till the new season picks up. But it's seems like I'm at the part where Gintama really starts hitting it off. Every episode has been great.

Haven't read either manga but aren't Parasyte & Tokyo Ghoul more dark fantasy then anything?

I would say so. Basically 90% of what the missus reads. Great Guignol Orchestra, Magical Girl Apocalypse, Jack the Ripper... Hmm.
is Magical Girl Apocalypse=Mahou Shoujo of the End ?
if so that manga is borderland softcore hentai, reminds me alot of high school of the dead

I'll check em' out. I'm not to familiar with most of the new shows this season. I am hearing good things about Prince of Stride.

they would both be classified as horror, and if you don't mind reading manga just skip the tokyo ghoul anime and read the manga. In general I am not a the manga is better purist, but for tokyo ghoul it's night and day. in the anime the main character is illogical and just does things for seemingly the sake of it. In the manga his reasons are clearly defined. They attempted to take a nonshonen show in tokyo ghoul and make it a shonen show and the end result is watchable but an insult to the original manga (and I only think the original manga is okay) I can go into more details if you want, but I am trying not to spoil anything :p

Watched the first two episodes of Demon King Daimao. What the hell am I doing with my life watching all these harems?
if you are watching dubs then you can justify it with if you didn't watch harem shows you would quickly run out of stuff to watch. if you are watching subtitled, I don't know :p

I'm going to show my age, but the name "harem" sub category didn't exist in the US market back in the day. It seems like most Anime for young males is "harem." Even Bleach and Outlaw star could be considered harem titles. Just a random thought from an out of touch Anime fan.

to be fair it was popularized with love hina which was at the start of the golden age of anime for the west.

before that you had ranma but it didn't trigger the harem love that love hina did.

Yeah, most are subbed. I'm giving it a rest. I got burnt out and honestly the last several I finished are a blur in my mind. And most of them thought were just okay. But I did finish with Nogizaka Haruka's Secret which I liked more than most (plus it has an ending) so I'll stop on a high note.

regarding the harem talk, since im new to anime. i also didnt know what it ment. but one think i did know about is Hentai lol
We used to call it "H-Anime" or "adult japanimation." Funny thing is almost everything Manga Entertainment brought over (at that time) was marked this way. I guess a lot of the titles would be rated "R" now that I think about it.

I meant by US outlets. Even if they were marked 15+, they were treated as adult (18+ or 21+) in video stores. Pretty much everything was considered porn.

Ratings have always been weird to me.

When they were new in the US, manga like Berserk and Battle Vixens would just sit out on Border's shelves, unsealed, just a few feet away from Jughead Comics vol. 925.  That same manga is now tightly locked away in the cabinet of shame at your local used bookstore, requiring two people to walk you back there while announcing to everyone "This person is a pervert."

I've been meaning to start Samurai Champloo after loving Bebop and Terror in Resonance. I watched the first episode last year and didn't like the record scratching jump cutting and thought the whole series would be like this so stopped.

But over the last few weeks i've found myself going onto youtube and having the entire soundtrack play in the background while I play PS4 online and its so good. So I watched the first three episodes last night and its pretty good, I think i'll stick with this and hopefully finish in a week or so.

Finished One Punch Man and it was a lot of fun. Looking forward to a S2.

Samurai Champloo soundtrack is amazing! I also love the series. Some of the episodes are weak, but there are some great stories in there and the ending is satisfying.

I second the recommendation to stick with Champloo. I feel like the strong episodes more than makeup for the weaker ones. Gets a ton of points from me for actually having an ending too. A pretty damned good one at that.

Also, without saying too much, has one of my favorite joke episodes ever.

I watched Champloo about a year ago and I loved it. And if you know a little about Japanese folk-lore you get a bit more out of it.

One of the later episodes where Jin fights the blind chick is simply amazing.

Right now I'm watching Gintama (at episode 54) & while not anime I'm watching Samurai Jack. Never saw it but with the new season coming up I figured I'd play catch up.

Anyone have any opinions of the new anime season anime?

I've only watched Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya o Mezasu, which I so far rate around a 6.5 or so. It feels like a worse Saekano. I am a fan of visual novels so I'm sure it will be fun enough.

Going to watch more episodes as the days go on.

I guess I can do a quick write up :p (i'm gonna skip all second or later seasons)

Boku dake ga Inai Machi

Interesting episode, though the first ep is just set up. Well regarded by people in general, based off a promising manga, and promises to have the ending of the manga. this one is on my give it at least 3 eps list.

Musaigen no Phantom World

What you get when kyoani decides to aim more for fan service instead of moe service. it was an okay watch but lots of boob jiggles, feels like that 8th grade syndrome show turned more real. this one is on my I will give it one more ep list.

Dagashi Kashi

Interesting little show about snacks, had a few amusing moments and plenty of why moments but not a horrible watch. this one is on my i will give it one more ep list.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar

video game turned real life with half an ep dedicated to talking about breast sizes.... wasn't impressed with this one but I am hoping it gets back to actually dealing with being a low level party in a video game world that is real. this one is on my I will give it one more ep but at signs of anything that annoys me I will drop it list.

Divine Gate

for an anime based on a game this wasn't bad. wasn't good either, but if you need an action anime to pass some time this will do the trick. This is on my I will give it one more ep but even if I don't hate it I will likely drop it to free up more time list. (I have lots of lists >.>)

Dimension W

this one is the action show to watch. Has lots of style and a far more interesting setting than diving gate, the female lead isn't that exciting but the main male is a bad ass. This one is on my give at least 3 episodes list.

Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu

this one was okay... nothing really interesting happened but I don't hate any of the cast. this one is on my give one more episode but likely drop to free up more time list.

Nijiiro Days

had a few moments, but despite knowing full well it's not a yaoi I feel like the boys will make out at any given time so likely not for everyone. on the give one more episode but likely drop to free up more time list.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!

I haven't watched this one as it hasn't aired yet, but I did read the manga to this one (which is based off the light novel that the anime is based off of) It is another video game turned real world anime. it was decent, plenty of ecchi but the characters were interesting enough, it will really depend on how over the top they go with the characters as if they go to far it will just be annoying.

Only new show I've seen so far is Prince of Stride. Love the quality and finally a new sports anime to follow.

I'll wait another week or two then check out some new stuff from this season. I'd love recommendations since I know very little about this season.

Assassination Classroom S2 is a must. Loved the first season.

Phantasy Star Online 2 looks interesting. This seasons MMO anime simulator.

Also in for Yamishibai. I usually wait several weeks and watch a few at once (since they're short stories). I have to be pretty buzzed to watch these since I'm such a pussy when it comes to scary stuff. I need the liquid courage in me.

Also saw CR picked up Lupin III (2015). I watched about 10 episodes. Pretty good so far. I like the introduction of a new character as a sort-of competition for Fujiko.

check out

Musaigen no Phantom World ( best way to describe it is , it is a better version of punch line)

Dagashi Kashi ( comedy

Boku dake ga Inai Machi

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar

Divine Gate

dimension W (cowboy bebop and samurai shamploo vibe) and the anime darker than black as well

Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu

Nijiiro Days ( romance/comedy u will like)

luck and logic ( zx ignition card battle based anime, like yugioh and such)

Haruchika: Haruta to Chika wa Seishun Suru

Bubuki Buranki

Schwarzesmarken ( muv luv world spin off anime mecha anime dealing/fighting with BETA alien life forms) features gores/ecchi

Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut ( this season's ecchi harem, full of the generic tropes u would expect, but i enjoy it) basically think infinite stratoes, but more lewd , and ecchi in ur face.

Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm ( very beautiful looking anime art)

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!

Ajin ( supernatural/horror, kinda reminds me of parayste)

gate jsdf season 2

LOL, u might as well drop all of them

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar is very slow, it deals with the realism of being stuck in a mmo, unlike the glorified version of the same type of anime like log horizon, sword art online and such.
it deals with the harsh reality of trying of getting by, just to surive.

it gets some what dark and harsh, if it based off the light novel.

I just don't have much new anime on my plate right now so I checked a bunch of them out with my wife since they didn't look horrible.

I can deal with the realism of being stuck in an mmo, I can't deal with 5-10 minutes being dedicated about talking about the breasts of the female party members.

I also need to double check what anime funimation announced for broadcast dubs as a lot of mediocre shows become much more watchable when I can also play a video game while watching them.

play a video game while watching anime? isn't that basically just listening to them?

listening to some of it but you can tell from audio cues when you really need to pay attention.

I don't play attention heavy video games, stuff like marvel puzzle quest or mlb the show or even the ace attorney games, something that I can split focus on.

or I just read manga while watching an anime series or tv series. it's not to bad splitting my attention between a manga series such as seven deadly sins and a show like fairy tail or maid sama. (I'll retain both series just fine with no confusion about what is going on in either series)

but i mean heck it isn't uncommon for me to play multiple games at the same time. most of my playthroughs of the ace attorney series were while I was playing mlb the show lol.

Just finished watching Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo and I really enjoyed it. Great character dynamics, plenty of comedy and drama, and just enough fan service ;) Really wish there was a second season :( Hoping to find something similar to watch next.

Yeah, it's one of those shows that really doesn't have an ending.

Have you watched Silver Spoon?

Any chance they will have a second season, or OVA/movie? There's still a full year of school left!

As for Silver Spoon, I have not heard of it but it sounds fun. I'll give it a try!

An OVA wouldn't be out of the question. But I'm not sure if the show was that popular.

Silver Spoon is a fun watch. One of my favorite slice-of-life anime. You will defiantly enjoy it.

Boku dake ga Inai Machi

I watched the second episode today, seems interesting. Curious to find out what happens. On the wiki it said its going to be 12 episodes which is good.

I was at the library and I saw a title called "blood lad" on the reshelving cart. I figured I would watch it since it seems like a short series.

blood lad is enjoyable, but once it actually starts going it just ends.

at least the english release of the manga has gotten past the anime, for the longest time you couldn't continue the story at all.

Also seen the first 2 episodes of this. I really liked it. I heard (not sure if true) that the anime will end along side the manga at the same time. So hopefully the anime gets wrapped up nice and neat in 12 episodes.

I don't recommend a lot of anime to my wife but this is one I told her she would probably enjoy since she likes murder/mystery stuff. So anyone who likes a good mystery at least check out the first 2 episodes.

Finished Samurai Champloo

I watched the first episode last year and wasn't really feeling it. I did however start listening to the music, and discovered some of the coolest tracks i've ever heard. I'd listen to it while playing my PS4 online in the background, so I figured i'd give the show another shot.

I am going to compare it a little to Bebop. I love Samurai stuff, but Bebop was way better. Apart from the cool style, awesome music, and some cool scenes it was a little boring at times. The dub was only good for the main characters, some of the others were laughably bad.

And the animation quality at times was really low quality, it was like I was watching Naruto filler or something. Really undetailed and disproportionate faces.. I remember Bebop was on point every single episode.

I don't know, because it was short, Watanabe and the music I watched it another wise I probably would've.

Ah well, at least i've discovered some cool new music which i'm really digging at the moment.

Next I am going to start Gangsta which I know nothing about.. or Kids on the Slope
