Destiny (PS3/PS4) Official Thread

New content isn't so much as new as it is tweaking and fixing the end game a bit.  It's definitely an improvement, but after 6 months of no content this is still not exactly much.  People will be back to complaining in about a week or two when everyone is already up to 335.

I'll probably run a raid and challenge of elders tonight.  I did Nightfall, Court, 41 PoE, and the new quest line last night.  New story mission and strike were recycled areas about 3 rooms long with just killing waves of taken.  New boss was pretty straight forward but overall pretty fun.  The Taken sword is cool and a great use of a heavy slot, basically completely replacing the legendary void sword.  The 41 POE was the exact same as the 28/32/34 and the boss was the giant knight.  Was a slog and was really boring.

New players to the game definitely get the most benefit of the new content, as now they can enter LL260 POE and Heroics, and the Raid gives smart loot.  It will be much easier to max out and more things to do.  I was 320 before the update, so Challenge of Elders is basically the only new element to end game added.

Ranking up factions and Vangaurds feels rewarding now too.  I received a 324 gauntlet and 323 ruin wake from vangaurd leveling.  I ended up reaching 321 for the night.  The grind is real, but I've heard Kings Fall is by far the fastest.

Did POE challenge mode 4 times last night leveled up a few levels and got dregs promise and lord of wolves. Its nice as hell to get rewarded for playing again without getting sweaty.

Ran two Oryx cp's and got tons of primary weapons, most in the high 320 range.  I think I ended up with 9, lol. Also got a few armor pieces and two Consumed ghost shells.  Completed 1 sigil, half of another and one 41 poe run; got the taken helmet & boots for my warlock and two heavy machine guns.

So in the end, all my toons are in the mid 320 range. Not bad for one night.

Still have a bunch more stuff to do to in order increase my light level, including Court

Missed most activities last week, so this was my first REAL taste of the update.  Much more enjoyable experience and the one-to one infusion is so damn nice :D

Got 5 primaries from Oryx earlier. 4 at 335 and one at 320. Nice to have a lot to infuse into things.

I'm at 333 now.  Kings Fall is great for leveling up.  Got a 335 Darkblade Helm and used it for infusion.  Working on getting a tier 12 build and then I'll probably take a break from the game for a bit.

Heroic strikes are actually great for leveling up.  Between the vangaurd/faction rep, possible strike drop, and exotic engram, lots of opportunities to level up.  The new taken winters run is pretty boring though.

Had a good run last night.  I can get all my toons over 332 with builds I'd want to use.

Banana gave me a 334 class item and 333 boots, all while under 1.5 rank, lol.  One raid run gave me a 335 class item and 335 ghost.

Still need to finish two raid runs and all my POE challenges.  Not sure I'll bother with NF's since banana is up and running.

Almost everyone who played before is playing again now. That Division fad died out really quickly, at least when it comes to CAG people.
We are just waiting for the next update on the division and for Daver to be done with his classes to free up time. there are still plenty of people to grief.

I was just kidding Matt. Haha. Was just trying to be like a typical destiny hater. I still play time to time, only crucible though.

This week has been really good for drops, between both IB and PoE "challenge". Between the two you can get all three weapon slots, ghosts, boots and class items. Been farming PoE speed runs with a group of three Malices, each run is only about 4min. All three chars are at 335, and I have over 10x 335 per slot (other than helm/glove/chest, which is just packages and engrams).

The drops have been so good on those, I haven't touched the raid and might skip trials this week.

Sad how I had hoped Division would be the Destiny Killer but even with being close to max level I would still rather grind on Destiny than  even look at Division. I kind of should have suspected as much most Ubi games are beat it then sell it.

lol :-({|= RIP Division, aka Destiny Killer :shame:
I don't follow The Division enough to know what this means. Can someone explain? All I've seen is that while a ton of people on my FL were playing it the first few weeks (and Destiny was pretty sparse then), it seems like very few people play it now.

I'm certainly glad I didn't pick it up as my former Raid team was trying to convince me to get it with them. I saw them doing regular stuff in it for about a week, then it stopped. I'd have been pissed if I dropped $60 on it for that short a time!

Oh the Destiny forums at bungie were for weeks full of people saying Division was a Destiny Killer and then it died after two weeks. People here started threads for it that are up to 3 pages or something. It ended up being dead really fast and pretty much everyone is back in Destiny once they raised the cap. I played fallout 4 and it was pretty boring/frustrating...the shooting and weapons are lame compared to Destiny.

I hit 335 on my Warlock rather fully over the last couple of weeks.  I can achieve Tier 12 builds with 5-5-2, 4-5-3, and 5-4-3, with various exotics intertwined.

I guess I'm pretty complete on the current update.  I'll probably run weekly stuff and play with friends while I move on to Uncharted 4 and Dark Souls 3.

It's Bungie Day!

Officially announced Moments of Triumph 2

Two shaders and two emblems shown.

https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/44934/7_HAPPY-BUNGIE-DAY

They recommend logging into each toon after you pick up the record book.  This will help track the activity from all three toons

Website and app are both wonky right now, so here's a pic.

There's also another emblem available, if you purchase something from the Bungie store.

Guessing you could stack this offer with the free emblem you can get from buying the soundtrack(s).

I bought a PS4 last week along with the Taken King. Put the Destiny disk in and performed the 20 GB download and played all week.

Last night fired it up to play and could not, said I needed a 1.25 update and that was almost 20 GB, what is the deal with that?

Welcome to current gen. Multi GB patches/updates and remasters out the ass. Better get used to it

It'll sometimes do a full re-download if the system can't verify your file or the download gets interrupted.

Sucks, I know.

It's times like these where you gotta "go make a sandwich", lol.

Destiny had a patch tuesday and one today to fix stuff broken in Tuesday's patch.

PS4 sucks at downloading updates to games. Even if the update is only like 100mb, it has to verify the entire update file, which I believe is currently up to 15gb. So even though it's downloading just a tiny amount, it thinks it's doing a huge amount and so it takes forever. Usually it's 15+ minutes for me just to verify the update.

By comparison, the Xbox One patch took about 30 seconds to download and install.

Damn! I haven't played much Destiny in the past 5-6 months, but I think I'm ready to dive back in with the Rise of Iron. Private matches with a full array of options sounds awesome. I like what I've seen so far in the reveals.

Quick PSA:

all challenge modes in the KF raid are active this week.  Last chance to get those missing fragments.

Same goes for Court of Oryx.  The tier 3 bosses are on rotation, so keep doing it until you get the one you're missing.

Figured out the khvostov stuff pretty easily. Gjallarhorn quest is pretty straightforward too. Nothing really surprising me yet, but I'm having fun and that story was dope.

I've been playing Iron for 5 or 6 hours over the past couple days and it's a massive disappointment compared to last year's Taken King. The new area is just a boring re-skinned earth, the level of progression is weak compared to how green and blue gear would blow even exotics from y1 out of the water in TTK - giving you the real feeling of getting stronger, and the new strike is meh. Maybe the raid will be good, but again, last year's King's Fall raid will be pretty hard to top. Also, what is this bullshit? I preordered ROI and I still have to go through the quest to get the Gjally when everyone has access to the same thing? What was the point of making it a preorder bonus if even those who didn't preorder have the same access to it?

My expectations were tempered for Rise of Iron and I never looked at much of the content reveals beyond a few things Bungie did. We knew it was not going to be as big as TTK and we knew RoI was basically a stop gap content release before Destiny 2. I've been playing for about 8 or so hours and have been enjoying the game and new content. The Plaguelands really feel like it was designed a bit for the future SRL event with the circular loop layout. The new area is bigger than what I would've expected even if it's more of the same Earth.

Everyone who buys Rise of Iron (pre-order or after) has access to the Gjallarhorn quest. Pre-ordering just gives you a different skin for the Gjallarhorn (standard is White and Gold) called the Iron Gjallarhorn (Silver and Black), which you infuse on the Gjallarhorn when you receive it.

Played 18 hours yesterday and can't wait to get back on.

Also a big lol to kings fall being hard to top. That raid is shit and it'll be pretty easy to top it.

How can anyone be disappointed with R.O.I. when you've got the mountain climb.

That easily steals the show for now.

How do you consider King's Fall shit? It was easily the best raid in the game
You're the first person I've ever seen say that.

KF is widely criticized for being too heavy on mechanics. It's very obvious that Bungie went into designing it with throwing a big middle finger to everyone who managed to find ways to solo sections of other raids. Because of that we were given a raid with at least 2-3 parts that all but require 6 people. On hard, any death is an auto wipe and that doesn't make the game fun. Going 10 minutes into an Oryx encounter, only to wipe because you lost the spark on the last round is incredibly frustrating. If someone died during the Atheon fight, the people that were still alive could step up and get shit done. Same thing for crota. If a single person dies during the Oryx fight, most groups will wipe since it's extremely difficult to recover.

Bungie has even said in interviews that they regret focusing too much on mechanics as a way of adding difficulty and that the RoI raid will be a lot more fun for players. That to me is basically acknowledgement that even they know people think KF is garbage.

Care to explain the Khostov one to me then? I don't see any guides online that explain the crucial step - how the hell do you get the Ketch mission to trigger? I went to through the Divide with my Splicer Intel Relay and opened the laser door. Went out to the ketch area, and, nothing... Just some thrall and fallen to kill. Ketch had more thrall and no servitor like the "guides" claim. And certainly no chest with plans in it. (and just to be clear of course I don't have the starter gun any more so this is what you do when you don't have that).

You don't even need to infuse it into the Gjallarhorn. I kept my 350 G-horn and infused something else into the Iron one, so now I have two of them. I'll eventually want one on each character of course - that's a weapon that is worth not having to swap around. You also get the sparrow for the preorder, for that that's worth...

Right. You also get the Gjallar Horn for the sparrow as well. I ended up infusing mine since I use DIM quite often to swap everything between characters. I don't see a need for having two or three copies of specific weapons for each character like in year one. Personal preference though.

As for the Khvostov, have you tried going there while in a mission or on patrol? I've heard a few people that have had issues with it triggering. I don't think it matters what kind of enemies are on the ketch, could be a big servitor or a wizard with thrall around. I've got the chest with both types of enemies. The chest should be near the back right corner.

Yeah I went on Patrol. I did not go while on a mission (patrol mission that is) because there were none in the Divide that qualified (just collect missions and such - nothing that would lead me to the ketch area like a plague or anomaly or boss one). I saw nothing BUT thralls there. No Wizard, no Servitor.

Yeah go on patrol. I've never seen a servitor, it's always been a wizard for me. Basically just kill everything in that area and the chest should spawn. The ghost should talk about how the fallen are rounding up thrall or something.

I can't get above 374! My shitty 365 ghost is holding me back! ranking up vanguard and new monarchy now over and over and still no ghost! The strike grind is killing me

Went back again and got it this time. Then spent like 4 hours grinding the strikes to go from 349 to 355. I guess I won't be Raid-ready for tomorrow (today actually).

I'm at 364.  Definitely the worst leveling system since early year 1.  It really wouldn't feel that bad if the strike playlist I was grinding wasn't the same strikes I've been playing already for over a year...

I'm going to try my hand at the raid  tonight, gonna try to go in blind with a group if anyone is interested.

I'm having kind of mixed feelings on the expansion.  As it stands on it's own... it isn't much.  But Destiny is an on and off again hobby.  I've enjoyed the ride.  While the content is on the light side of NEW stuff, it's still enough to get me into it.  The Gally quest was great, the last story mission was great.  I hope the Raid is too!

I loved King's Fall, but it wasn't built for casuals.  It was best ran in groups of those you could rely on.  When my old raid group was together, we were running it around an hour easily.

King's Fall was the best raid all things considered.  VoG was full of glitches and cheeses.  Crota was basically a strike.  I still really enjoyed those raids, but King's Fall was just solid.  We are forgetting the normal mode of King's Fall allowed a TON of heroics and epic saves because of fireteam revives.  Picking a player up pretty much made every fight doable so long as they didn't die at a pivotal moment.

All the backlash against KF is probably due to everyone running in to a normal mode raid and seeing how much more fun it is.  We've all been slamming hard mode KF for almost a year now.  I'm going to bet that WotM is going to be fairly punishing and have more mechanics on hard mode.
