Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Just wait until the Z season. Ed Goldfarb, the dub music composer starting with XY, is absolutely terrible at his job and should have been fired long ago.

You would think after over a decade of hearing "Please, just leave the Japanese music alone!" incessantly from fans, TCPI would have gotten the hint, but no. It's especially stupid because even those that prefer the dub don't even defend that. NOBODY enjoys the dub music over the original. At all.

Orange is starting to piss me off. Naho is a clueless idiot to the point where it's not even charming or endearing. Kakeru wants to hit that shit so hard but Naho be blueballing my boy at his every advance. No wonder he wants to kill himself. Girl needs to put up or shut up.

The quality took a dip too. Some shots look really awkward.

Ugh, that is very bad to hear... I've only watched Orange up through episode 6, so I'm behind, but it was pretty good up to that point. BUT, I absolutely can't stand when the MC is a clueless idiot, and especially when it's a female lead in a romance story, so it sounds like I'm going to be very disappointed with what I thought was going to be a great series... :whistle2:(

The last few episodes have been frustrating to watch. It does take an interesting twist around episode 7 or 8 but the romance part is unbearable. The two are now open with their feelings for each other and everyone knows it but they don't want to date because..... well there's no real reason. They just want to stay friends I guess. It took 3 awkward episodes for them just to hold hands. Gimme a fucking break. It's hard to believe Naho actually gets married in the future and has a kid. That actually requires sex and I'm not sure she knows what that is since she's as clueless as a plank of wood.

Now Suwa on the other hand is bro of the year. Sacrificing his feelings to support Naho and Kakeru. He's the true hero of the show.

Man I'm gone for a week and only a few posts :p I seem to recall being somewhat clueless in high school, but never that clueless. I could generally tell when girls liked me, just didn't always have the balls to do something about it. However, if you're at the stage they are at? No courage required...I do note that this annoying noobness seems to be common in anime. Is it a cultural thing?

To those who read Fairy Tail's latest chapter. Don't worry.

And one chapter later....LOL...meme comes true.

Finished Bakemonogatari yesterday. Definitely a different anime experience than what I normally watch. Good story overall though a bit of a weak ending. Quite a bit of fan service throughout, with a few awkward moments on transit during my commute

Not sure what I want to watch next. Would like something dubbed. I've been alternating between dubbed and subbed as I have to read a computer monitor all day so not having to read in the morning and afternoon would be nice. Would like something with some action, and not much fluff/filler.

Hmmmmm. Trying to think of a good action anime that's been dubbed.

I think I remember you saying you watched Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood and Code Geass. If not check those out. Maybe Parasyte? I think that has a dub.

Already seen both of those (big FMA/B fan). I'll have to check out Parasyte. Heard about it but I never really paid attention to it when it came out.

There's always Gundam. UC Re: 0096 is free dubbed on Daisuke and Iron-Blooded Orphans is on Toonami.

Haven't seen the anime, but the Seraph of the End manga is really good.

If you want older stuff I can recommend Gun x Sword, Linebarrels of Iron, Aquarion, and Tower of Druaga. It's also much lighter fare, but there's also Angelic Layer.

I'll second Iron-Blooded Orphans. It's a solid Gundam show with some great battle scenes. It drags at times but overall I really enjoyed it. plus that op is great.

Better off just watching the actual Gundam Unicorn OVA.

Iron Blooded Orphans is great. The op by Man With a Mission makes it even better.

So I watched the latest episode of Orange and had this thought...

So why didn't Naho just say "I'll go with you to see your grandma"? That would've made him happy and not played into his fears. She basically did exactly what she shouldn't have done. Chasing after him was going to produce exactly the issue we saw at the end. Stupid. This feels like "let's create drama!" instead of an intelligent plot :(

and for RE: Zero with one episode left !! Not really sure where it's all going, but at least my main theory about Subaru was confirmed in this episode! Quite pleased about that. Bummed we only get one episode more before it's all over, but I'm really hoping we will get more episodes in a second season later.

The dub of parasite is well done, but if you don't already know it gets very violent and bloody

I watched the fight between Goku/Trunks vs. Black/Kamasu. It was nice looking but it felt like the fight was animated well but sped up to make it look smoother.

Super is still having a difficult time balancing power levels. Since Goku & Vegata went Blue they really don't seem that much stronger. You see them get beat down time & time again. Even Fat Buu who was at the time the most powerful thing in the universe gets pummeled like Yamcha now.

Then there's Black & Kamasu getting distracted by a fucking bomb which lets Goku & company get away. Come the fuck on.

Random Dragon Ball nonsense ftw ;) I think given that Zamasu analyzed their fights in the tournaments before, you can presume that they were ready for a counter to it. Hence the ass kicking.

Well, the latest episode detailed how Goku Black came to be and revealed that Super Saiyan Rose is closer to Super Saiyan Blue than regular Super Saiyan.

And it's not like super powerful people being stopped by ordinary objects is a new thing. It happened in Z and it happened earlier in Super as well.

I'm more annoyed by how clueless Gowasu is regarding Zamasu.

I don't know. I can't remember man made weapons (besides the androids if you count them) doing any kind of harm or major impact on a fight since the original DB. Please give me an example of something similar. Yajirobi cutting off Vegeta's tail maybe?

Given Kamasu & Black are supposed to insanely strong I can't imagine they couldn't sense the crew's unique ki or even move fast enough out of the smokes blast range. It's just DB bull$hit and it's pointless for me even to complain. But I just gotta say it.

There was that, but also Krillin hitting Goku on the head with a rock during the Cell Games filler. Plus, all the times they get flung into walls and hit with rocks and are hurt by them.

As for sensing their ki, it's likely a matter of scale. Goku, Trunks, and Vegeta were barely concious, so their power level was drastically reduced. For someone as strong as Black and Zamasu, they likely cannot differentiate between power levels under a certain level. Sure, even almost dead Goku is still hundreds of times stronger than Mai, but it likely feels the exact same from Black & Zamasu's point of view.

Also, where are you getting Kamasu from?

On on episode 14 already (plowing through this at like 7 episodes a day) and really enjoying it so far. The violence is up there, both the fights/battles aren't as epic as I was expecting (yet??). Some interesting twists so far and psychologically stimulating :)

Yeah was one of my fav shows of that season. It's good stuff. Lots of people seem freaked out by the blood/violence for some reason. I've seen worse in anime lol

Just finished it, was literally touch and go the last few minutes whether I was going to rage quit or rejoice. Really enjoyed the story overall. Pacing we pretty dang good too. There were a few plot elements that could have been polished a bit more, but definitely a fun ride.

Curious to see if the series gets any more content in the future.

I don't think so. From what I remember it's source material is pretty old and has been finished for something like 20 years. I'm pretty sure the 24 episodes covered most everything. I don't think the series was ever revisited either.

Taking the family to an anime convention tomorrow. I've been to a few comic book conventions but never anime. So this will be the first for all of us. The little one is dressing up as Chopper. Hopefully we'll have a good time.

I have no idea how big the convention is, but if they have a Dealer's Room, see if there's a shop with an old-school movie theater sign advertising cheap anime and manga. Their manga selection is pretty decent and go down in price the more you buy. Got 10 manga for $40 a few weeks ago.

It was a fairly small one, but we had fun. I bought a couple things. And since my daughter was dressed as Chopper she got some pictures taken with other One Piece cosplayers. It was our first so I wasn't expecting much but it turned out great.

And the cosplay was actually fun to see. Some girls my wife had to snap my head back cause they weren't leaving too much for the imagination. But I will say some of the vendors are dicks.

Last time I went to an anime convention the smell almost blew me away. It's like the people forgot that showers and deodorant exists. Plus the nerd factor was so high it was actually pretty off-putting to me. I enjoy a lot of things and have strong interests, but never go full on nerd like some of these people do.

Some anime I watched recently:

Snafu: Awesome! I can see why people compare it to Haganai, but they are very different shows. Haganai is more about comedy and harem, while Snafu focuses on character development. Some of the dialogue reminded me of Monogatari series. Really hoping for a third season.

Watamote: Painful to watch. Few funny moments. Skip this unless you find extreme awkwardness enjoyable.

Sakamoto: Interesting style and sense of humor. But
that sad ending seemed unnecessary to the otherwise lighthearted nature of the series.

Charlotte: Amazing! At first I thought it would be a light show, but it turns serious partway through. One of the best final episodes I've ever seen.

ReLIFE: Loved it! Interesting premise and well executed. Great final episode, though there is room for another season if the manga gets far enough.

Same here. I like nerdy things but my interests are casual. When it's too much I usually avoid it. But I still respect the dedication some of these cosplayers have.

I don't really have a problem seeing people really into it at conventions...as long as they aren't coming up to me and bothering me. I think it's pretty much the same thing as people getting all decked out for their team when watching or going to watch a sport.

Finally finished up Kiznaver. The ending was weak. The show started off very promising, I liked the characters & great intro. But it lost me around ep 8 or 9. It does what a lot of these shows do and tries to be deeper than what it is and just comes off pretentious. I don't particularly like hearing deep psychological talk from 16 years olds. Cheeky little cunts don't know shit about life.

Berserk ended for now. It was a visual train-wreak. I don't know how such a greatly loved series like Berserk gets this terrible CG treatment. Other than that it's Berserk and Guts is one of the most awesome baddasses ever. I can't help but get excited every time he's on screen. I am pumped for some Musou Berserk now.

New Game has continued to be a lighter part of my anime viewing. It's nothing great but the light hearted charm is a welcome after watching shows like JoJo, Berserk & Mob Psycho. I guess I enjoy working environment anime.

And I also caught up with Alderamin. It's been okay I guess. I'll be honest that I've grown less interested in it over the past few weeks. But it just manages to hang in there and not being dropped.

Sounds about right lol. I still have high hopes for Alderamin. Last episode of RE: Zero today.....*sad panda*

Well, I have to say the end of RE: Zero was great. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop the whole time...that's a well written show. It ended in a way that allowed it to continue or end forever there. Definitely best of season. Also, Gundam RE:0096 wrapped up last week and it was solid also. Excited to continue my Gundam-fest with Gundam: IBO this coming season. I haven't talked about it much, but Kuromukuro has been good this season too. A solid 7/10 I think. Hitorinoshita the Outcast has been enjoyable to watch so far as well. I think it's a chinese-created anime? At least, all the character names are chinese. Food Porn is solid as usual. So many good shows coming up this season...mostly follow on seasons, but that's what makes it great.

Caught up with Food Pron last night. They mentioned langostinos. In the sub they call them Norwegian Lobsters which is actually a langustine, not a langostinos. The first is a small lobster the former is more like a giant shrimp. The names are so similar thet they often get confused for each other.

Between this and Sweetness Lighting it makes me want to be a better cook. I think I'm gonna do some grillin' this week.

Errr, anyone keeping up with Macross Delta, someone put a RE: Zero spoiler in at the end. Though I doubt anyone is watching that ;)

Now that this season is wrapping up what's everyone's AOTS?

Without counting leftovers from spring it's hard to choose a solid choice. But it's between Mob Psycho, Sweetness & Lightning & ReLife. But the parent in me is strong so I'm leaning towards Sweetness & Lightning this season. I really enjoyed it's charm and it was educational since I learned a few cooking techniques.

Strictly anime that started in the summer season, it's hands-down RE: Life for me. I didn't watch Sweetness & Lightning, so can't say much about it, but it sounds like you personally related to it, so that probably brings it up higher for you.

It probably wasn't the best show of the season but it was the one I enjoyed the most. But ReLife is a good choice.

Also finished up New Game. I'll miss it. Despite the fact it was a super girly anime and complete yuri bait with absolutely no dudes in the show. Anyone who liked this I totally recommend Shirobako, Denki-Gai & Working.

Still haven't started any new series. DB Super, Pokemon, the recently finished Unicorn Re:0096, and the soon-to-be-finished Ace Attorney. So...my AOTS is Pokemon.

if we could Re:zero as part of this season, then that... hands down, no debate at all.

if not... It's between Soma, mob psycho and Re:life for me.

Finished Digimon Adventure Tri Movie 3.

- OK, so Homeostasis has apparently appeared in the franchise before, as the mysterious force that took over Kari in that one episode late in Season 1, but it still feels like it came out of nowhere.

- I thought they went back to pretending Digimon don't exist and that the kids have to keep their Digimon hidden from the outside world? If so, why was Kari allowed to bring Gatomon in that mall with no muss or fuss?

- I can't believe Matt bought that BS excuse from Himekawa about the 02 Kids. What's even more frustrating is that they STILL don't bother searching for them after the reboot. And since "Ken" is really Gennai for some reason, does that mean the 02 kids are actually dead?

- Speaking of that, did none of them bother to question how exactly Himekawa got a hold of Ken's D3 and D-Terminal at the end there?

- My lord the Evolution sequences in these movies are boring as hell.

- So, they finally debut HerculesKabuterimon, and they do it in the most blase way possible. Just like last movie, they just get these new forms with no fanfare whatsoever.

- Why exactly do the Digimon not remember the kids at the end? They were genetically programmed to know who they are at birth, so why would the reboot change that? It's literally in their code to know who the Digidestined are. For that matter, if the Digital World was rebooted and reset to an earlier time, why do they still have Kari's whistle from Season 1?

- For that matter, what about their friend Digimon like Piximon and Andromon? Are they still around? How about dead ally Digimon like Wizardmon and Leomon? Did they get revived? If they did, does that mean evil Digimon like Myotismon, the Dark Masters, and Apoclymon got revived as well?

- Oh, and as usual Episode 1 is mostly a throwaway episode. *sigh*

Finished Haikyuu!! Second Season today, just as fun and intense as the first season, but with better character development. I've grown tired of 25 episode seasons/series, but this one really helps you grow with the characters and embrace their struggles. Looking forward to season 3 (and hopefully finishing out this damn school season O:) )

Now to find a dubbed series again. I'm basically alternating 1 subbed, then 1 dubbed, etc, etc.

dennou coil :p

With this season wrapped up It'll be a few weeks before I start getting into the fall season stuff. I guess it's time to finish Clannad, Votoms or Ace of Diamond.

@SynGamer It doesn't seem like the type of anime you'd normally watch but what about Ouran High School Host Club? It's a rom/com with a reverse harem with the main character being female instead of male. Despite it being more geared towards females It was actually pretty funny. I enjoyed it so much I must've binged all 26 episodes in like 3 or 4 nights.

Watched that ages ago with the wife, very funny, though I still think I prefer the regular harem. Actually met and got an autograph from Vic Mignogna :D/

I'm clean outta ideas. It's a sub but did you see Space Brothers? That's a show I don't think gets enough love.

Guys, I'm really trying to like Clannad. I watched a few more today (at episode 18) and i'm not getting why you guys think this is good. It's not terrible and I don't hate it, but just terribly bland. The different arcs with the girls aren't clever, charming, touching or even coherently written. It has so many questions, potholes and red herrings. And some very odd/awkward exchanges.

With that said I'll probably stick with it at this point since I'm already 18 episodes invested.
