Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Whaaaaa!? Setting aside my shock, I definitely recommend watching Hellsing Ultimate over the original.
while I would recommend the original :p

ultimate was nice to look at, but the villain was a lot less fun than the original's anime only villain as ultimate's villain never shuts the hell up :/

Whatever it is, the first episode was "meh".
While watching it I couldn't help but think Bill & Ted's. First episode was good. I just wish they'd do something like this were the Japanese faction wasn't the main focus. We have enough of that. There's so much more history and culture around the world, it's a shame all anime dealing with world events are always spear headed on Japan. I get it, Japan is where anime comes from, but I've seen enough of Nobunaga and the Sekighara battle. Take a back seat for once Japan. Not that America is any better.

Wow, the magic girl building project took a turn for the dark side, though I guess they foreshadowed that at the beginning. I'm not that keen on the show, but I'm curious where they take the story.

Holy fuck, Dragonball Super.

EDIT: I'm also glad the controversy in Japan hasn't caused Iron-Blooded Orphans to get any lighter or shy away from the harshness of their world.

I read that Iron Blooded Orphans S1 was supposed to have Eugene and the Turbines betray Tekkadan. But the Director wanted a lighter ending and told the writer to bring it down a notch.

I'm not leavin S2 out of the question, as I expect Tekkadan to get betrayed anyway.

Well, Season 1 got in trouble with a lot of Japanese parents because it's airing in a time slot aimed at children and the harsh and mature themes were thought to be too much for little kids. For comparison's sake, it would be like if Cowboy Bebop aired on a Saturday Morning block uncut.

I guess model kit sales were big enough that Bandai said "Eh, keep doing what you're doing."

Poco's Udon World was charming. If you liked Barakamon check it out. They're very similar in terms of a guy moving to the country and befriending a small girl.

If anyone comes across something good let me know. So far my watch list this season is:

Roll-over Shows:

JoJo DIU

DB Super

Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan

New Shows:

Tiger Mask W

Haikyu!!! S3

Drifters

Kiss Him Not Me ep1 - A reverse harem where the girl turns from fatty to hottie. She's into gay stuff which seems to be the new trend among anime (not sure why). I did like it but my problem is it doesn't have a good message and the guys come off as shallow pricks. I hope at some point she goes back to being fat and I'm curious to see who's still in her harem then. 2 of the guys seem genuine but they only asked her out after she lost the weight. But like all harems she's mostly oblivious to the guys affections and only focused on her "otaku" hobby. It's your typical schlock, but it's enjoyable.

March Lion ep1 - This is going to be the tear-jerker of the season and the best first episode so far. Well animated (except for some forced & oddly thrown in goofy scenes). It's like a mix of "Your Lie in April" & "Rakugo". Not much is explained so I'm staying tuned.

Haikyu is obviously a winner if you've been keeping up. Izetta seems ok so far. Nothing spectacular going on here. Sound Euph is a fun slice of life, but nothing mind blowing. Gundam IBO is the show to watch this season ofc. Bloodivores is ok so far. Not sure where it's going or how it will end up. March comes on like a Lion might be a sleeper. Agree it'll be the tear jerker of the season. Occult;Nine is weird so far. Not sure what to think of it, but that's typical of all the shows with a ";" in them. There are girls in this show with boobs that are so disproportionate that they are actually disgusting as hell. Hopefully the story picks up...

I saw this. I'll be the first to admit, I love a nice rack but these things aren't even sexy or attractive. Also how can this chick have these bonker sized tits and no ass? And whats up with that hole in her face that I guess is supposed to be a nose?

That's when boobs are grafted onto a body that doesn't support them :D There's the lack of nose and then the bizarre striated hair. If you watch the show, there's another girl that shows up in a random flashback (I think it's a flashback) with similar silly boobs. I'm kind of glad someone went this direction with the oversized boobage just so that people will finally be like "woah, ok, let's have realistic ones plz?"

One Piece has the monster titty problem too. Every single girl (even if they're a grandma) has major perky boobage. It's ridiculous at this point.

Glad I don't follow that never-ending show. I can tell though from the statues that come out on CR's store. I'm like...your waist...isn't big enough to house your organs...guess some of them got moved to the boobs. It's gross lol.

Thunderbolt Fantasy ep 5-7 - So I got back into this. I realized each episode follows a pattern. The first 18 minutes is exposition and dialogue. What's annoying is they often repeat what is already said which makes it drag. Then the last 5 minutes you get the fighting which is always badass. It totally makes up for the first half of each episode.

Amanchu ep 6 - I usually like these charming, lighthearted slices-of-life shows but I find this sooooooo boring. I got halfway through ep.6 and shut it down to play some Paper Mario. The muppet faces aren't helping either. Example: at the start of ep.6 you see two people in the pool that at first looked like some random unknown children. I thought "who the fuck are these kids, I don't remember them." Nope, they're the main characters in muppet/chibi form but because they were wearing wetsuits it's hard to recognize them. They stay in muppet form for the first several minutes of the show then go back to being normal. It's jarring and confusing to the viewer. I don't know why they do this.

Some of it is simple Art Evolution (Luffy has become a lot buffer while Chopper has shrunk), but it apparently started getting out of control after Oda got married to a cosplay Otaku girl.

Did he get married while writing the Thriller Bark arc? Cause that's t the first time I noticed Nami got super ridiculously stacked. I am watching One Piece with my daughter and we're at Water 7 right now. I'm noticing a slight increase here as well.

I love all this boobie talk. It makes me feel young again.

I think after Skypia Nami & Robin got a slight increse in boobage plus they countinued to lose more clothes. But after the time skip they defiantly got a blessing from the titty gods.

Which anime(s?) are we talking about here?
One Piece. Plus there's a new anime called Occultic;Nine which has ridiculously shaped girls.

I finished Thunderbolt Fantasy. Really good ending. The last few episodes were defiantly the best. Some nice closure. I was never into Thunderbirds as a kid because I thought it looked silly. The only puppet based show I liked was Team America, but that was because it was a comedy. Who would've thought a non comedy puppet show would be this awesome.

Dang, I need to finish Thunderbolt Fantasy, almost forgot all about it. I've watched up to the point where they just get to the bad-guys castle. And oh man, I loved watching Thunderbirds and Fireball XL5 back in the 1960's as a kid, those Supermarionation shows were some of my most favorite TV shows of that time.  I even just recently bought the Twilight Time Blu-ray of Thunderbirds are Go! with the two movies in the release. So, I was totally excited to see this Thunderbolt Fantasy series when it first came out, a little nostalgia setting in, I guess, lol...

Tiger Mask W ep. 2-3 - They finally start making connections to the original series. It's still cheesy nostalgic goodness.

WWW.Working ep. 2-3 - There's characters I hate and some I love. So far the super smart but lazy mom and the non-Japanese speaking boy are my favorites. I can't wait to hear the terrible Engrish that's inevitably coming our way. I don't care much for the MC. He's super whiney and always complaining. The rich girl and poor boy are growing on me. I kinda disliked them at first, but after seeing their back-story I've opeened up a little bit.

Drifters ep.2:

Glorious action-schlock still. Well-directed with excellent production-values,and shot-composition (I expect nothing less from the Jojo director).

anyone know is there is a significant difference between the denou coil dvd and blu ray release.

it's right in the range of dates that I wouldn't expect there to be a big upgrade for blu ray, but I would like to double check.

Dennou Coil looks interesting, and it came out in 2007, not sure how I missed it with such a high rating on MAL. Will have to check this out in the coming weeks. Going to start Re-Zero this week I think.

I watched the first episode of Dennou Coil. I really liked it but it kinda fell of my radar. I need to get back to it. Where can I watch this?

it's fun and the theme of it might actually work better now with pokemon go and google glass than it even did in 2007. It was quite ahead of its time with the augmented reality stuff.

I don't know if it is streaming anywhere legally (it got released by an offshoot of section23/sentai), but it did get an official english release recently even with a dub. it's why I am asking about dvd vs blu ray because given its release date I doubt there is a huge difference between the two, but you can't always be sure. And I want to buy it soon to help support the fact that they rescued such an old show.

I'll be picking up that one during the inevitable black friday/xmas sales.

Izetta The Last Witch ep2-3 - This has now become a solid contender for AOTS. Great animation and a story that reminds me of Valkyria Chronicles. Plus it has the best opening I've seen this season so far.

Sound Euphonium ep 1-2 - Band class lesbian bait is back and I don't remember it being this boring. The problem is the focus has shifted to several minor characters who I don't even remember nor care about. At least they got that "pool episode" and the "yukata/fireworks festival episode" out of the way. If they're going with the slice-of-life formula a "test of courage" or "hot spring episode" should be on the horizon. But I will say every time the two MCs hold hands and move their faces within inches of each other, my nose starts to bleed. And probably my favorite character , Askusa, became a bitch. It's high-school band class, not world politics. Get over yourself.

Izetta isn't bad. I see the VC connection, but let's be real, VC is amazing. Not the anime, that was a bit on the poopy side, but the story told through the game was bar none awesomesauce. Almost pulled the trigger on the PS4 remaster, but that graphic style doesn't really improve, so didn't seem worthwhile. I do think it's worth following for now though.

Sound Euph is what it is. I've been waiting for some lesbo action too, but it seems like the black haired girl wants to bang the teacher? I forget. This season has been meh so far. Hopefully it picks up.

And today's episode of Occultic;Nine I caught up with.......this show is so freaking weird. The guy behind these shows/manga/whatever the source is has a twisted mind. If it wasn't for Steins;Gate.....sigh. I guess I'll keep watching it to see if it clicks. Steins;Gate is weird at the start too, but not this weird. At least the women don't have gravity defying boobage in his opus magnum.

I never saw the VC anime so I was referring to the game. It's European based, WW2 inspired with some magic thrown in.

I'm totally not expecting any yuri action in Sound Euphone. Like you said trumpet chick is obviously into teacher-sensei. They're just throwing in those scenes to tease and troll us.

I finally caught up on the latest DB Super. Man, this is why I love DB. I got all tingly and had the giggles watching it. So ridiculous and yet so good! They just need to chop off that ring and that one guy will bite it. I still don't know why they aren't trying fusion. That seems like an instant i-win button, which maybe why they came up with that dumb, throw-you-in-a-pot technique. That's really more original DB style...which is where I guess it came from? lol Either way, love it!

I'm 2 episodes behind DB Super. I plan on catching up tonight. Lately it's been a fun ride considering the rehashed slow start and shoddy animation. Is till don't fully understand his wish that turned Goku into Black. But the fights have been fun and It's nice to see Trunks finally get the girl.

Db Super - What form did Trunks go into in the last episode? It looks similar to Gohan turning SSJ2 against Cell.

Amachu ep 7-8: I'm slowly burning through this. I like it but can only stomach an episode or 2 at one time.

Ace of Diamond 44-46: Damn, this show drags, but we're at the finals. Like most sports anime near the end  it's "full-steam-ahead" and no turning back. I wanted to finish this last night but I'm 5 episodes off and it was 3AM in the morning.

Shelter -  Who's slicing up all these onions? *snif* I seriously got a lump in throat near the end. It's beautiful, sad, heartwharming and a million other emotions rolled up in one. And what a great song. If you have a spare 6 minutes in your day I strongly suggest watching this. I watched it 3 times already and discovered something new on each view. Plus as you guys know I'm a sucker for a anything with a relationship between a father and daughter.

Saiyan rage-fest? It looked like a form of SSJ2 on it's way to Blue. I thought he might got SSJ3, but what good would that do? Was almost wondering if Goku would go SSJ4 when he raged.

Edit: Woohoo, just saw the CR news that they'll pick up DB Super on Oct. 22!! Yesssssssss.

Yep, saw the news on CR. But it looks like they're starting with ep. 63 so it's only good if you're caught up.

I hope Trunks doesn't go Blue just because it'll cheapen the form. Before you know it Goten & Kid Trunks will master it only to get smacked around by some random dumb looking alien.

Only thing I"m watching right now is Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans.

Keijo and 3 Gatsu Lion is on my radar. Just dont have as much time as I used to

So I'm mildly annoyed with Drifters. Where do they come up w/ some of these "bad guys" in the show? Joan of Arc?? wha? One of the people was like...a ruler of old Russia. Neither of which are crazy bad ass fighters. Are they running out of good ideas over in Japan? Really put me off.

I'd say your taking a show based on a Kouta Hirano series, way too seriously. That and everyone on the side of the Ends were martyrs of some sort, with the Black King heavily hinted at being
Jesus
.
