Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

since we are talking AOTY stuff and i am to lazy to repost it here, I will just link to my AOTY list on a different site lol

https://www.resetera.com/threads/resetera-anime-of-year-2017-voting-thread-read-the-op-ends-midnight-january-31-utc.14841/#post-2951112

im sure my #3 will surprise some people on both the tv series and movie list lol
This reminds me I need to post on ERA's anime thread more.

I like your list. Pretty solid. I just don't remember Classroom of the Elite being all that good.

I personally enjoyed it quite a lot, not necessarily a novel concept, but the execution was good. I can see how someone can put it up there, however there are other shows that straight knocked my socks off so...

Now I remember this one. I was getting it confused with King's Game (which was shit) But yeah, Classroom of the Elite was good. If we ever get a second season I'll watch it.

Watched an episode of Devilman Crybaby last night. I really don't know if I like this or not. It's pretty freakin' weird. That nightclub orgy scene was .... yeeesh..

No love for RE:CREATORS! *sniff*
It didn't catch my interest enough to give it a watch without a dub. It's on my list to watch once there is a dub. If it never gets a dub then I likely won't get around to watching it *shrugs*

I figure aniplex will release it with a dub though.

yeah... king's game was not good, but classroom was fun. plenty of cliches but done with decent takes on them to make the cast feel fun instead of just cliched. hardly super original but quite enjoyable overall.

Wait, so all the shows you watched this season had dubs? If no dub you don't watch it? I'd imagine that'd limit the number of shows you can watch.

This season... uh yeah I am not watching anything that doesn't have a dub from this season.

it's not like I don't watch sub stuff if it interests me. I mean I watched made in abyss as it came out, and I recently marathoned Land of the Lusrious, but I have limited time for subtitled only stuff right now, since it requires most of my focus unlike dubs which only require like 40% of my focus to follow while doing other things.

I mean I am not watching much in general this season. This season for me is a season of series that are watchable but not exciting.

though I will eventually have to watch Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan 2 subbed since it was confirmed that funimation wasn't allowed to licence it.

I'm excited for seven deadly sins but I can just wait for the dub to show up on netflix for that one. I also have some interest in Koi wa Ameagari no You ni but aside from those everything else I care about this season is simuldub shows.

Next season has a few more shows I will watch subbed such as Major 2nd or the new Sword Art online series (I will at least check it out lol)

but yeah... given the funimation dubs are only 2-3 weeks behind it's not very hard to wait for the dubs of any series I am interested in lol.

Well, I told myself I'd hang with Killing Bites until the destroyal (these friggin names) started. I think that's going to be it for me.

Minor show spoiler
Virtual dicerolling and a "only this player in this position rolling a 6 on his first turn can..." Nah, I'm good.

Also, a werehippo?

LOL, good to know I passed on something that's not worth watching.

Ah ok, currently I don't have many limits on my time and I have managed to somewhat successfully multi-task while watching subbed shows. I can generally understand what they are saying, so if I don't catch the subs I'm not too lost.

but yeah so far I have checked out draling in the franxxxxx

citrus

death march

and pop team epic.

the first three I only view worth watching dubbed and the last one I don't view worth watching at all :p

I am also watching the second season of the candy show dubbed but that isn't a new show so doesn't matter as much to list (and also is only worth watching dubbed to me as it's not a very good show just has some interesting candy trivia from time to time :p)

sometimes if a show surprises me, I will stop waiting for the dub and just watch it subbed instead. but nothing so far this season.

The Three Monster Girls
I just wanted to take a second to tell you that you were absolutely right about this. The appearance of Liza, Pochi, and Tama (along with translations of the aforementioned popups) has made Death March a more enjoyable show for me.

There are 3 more girls to be introduced(2 were teased/in the op & ed)

Honestly, the female cast is more interesting than the mc.

So I finally watched Yuki Yuna is a Hero and boy is that show an emotional roller coaster. Apparently there's a prequel LN that's fairly tragic. I wonder if they should have used that as the initial episodes of this show. I don't think it would really spoil much at all. One of the better 12 episode stories I've seen in a while though.

Edit: Oh  boy I'm behind the times, they already animated a bunch of that stuff! Time to go find it!

Update: I marathoned everything else. Wow, that was a great show. I honestly wasn't sure what path they would take in the story, which is a rare treat. Definitely one of my favorites and what a weird discovery! I just remember reading something about the show that got me curious and boom, found a winner.

Is it bad that I LOL'd when they showed us lizard men doing it in Overlord? I'm not sure if they did it for comedic effect or not. Just thought the scene was ridiculous. So 5 episodes of lizard men. Half of my precious Overlord season :( Is there not much material out they can draw on? Is that why they are spending this much time w/ this? I honestly wouldn't mind all this bonus exposition of the lizard men if we had say, 26 episodes. Ah well, it's still entertaining.

Now I'm going to be a lot more blunt about the episode here with some of the events that happened and interject my personal feelings, so apologies in advance. First, lizard sex = unnecessary and I found it to be a worthless scene outside of the cheap lulz. Second, why did they slur his speech when he got rez'd? Trying to simulate rez effects? I actually felt insulted by it for some reason, like they shat on the integrity of the character they had spent 5 episodes to build up. I had a lot of respect for that dude and then they reduce him to sounding like that? I think it speaks to the quality of the writing that it bothered me that much. Just wish they skipped that along with the humping scene. I don't usually rant about this kind of stuff, but for some reason it bugged me.

They're following the manga/light novel, everything happened exactly as it did. Ainz just decided to observe the Lizardmen at the wrong time.

He's been dead for days. It's safe to assume that he needs time to reacquaint himself with his body.

5 Episodes. Not that bad. There is going to to be 13 Episodes in total.

If we are going by what was shown in the OP, the following arc will be the Sebas Arc/Six Arms Arc, which will be 4 episodes. And the final arc of the season will be the Jaldabaoth/Men in the Kingdom Arc taking up the last four episodes. Or it could be three and the final episode will be the start of a new arc/season 3 teaser for the Invasion of the Nazarick Tomb.

Overlord S3 confirmed. LOL.

I think the pacing is great. A whole lot better than some of adaptations. The most recent example was Grancrest Senki who adapted 1 WHOLE volume in 1 episode.

That's good, you have some context since you've read the source material. I think pacing is solid, just makes me nervous when JP is notorious for shutting down anime w/ giant loose ends. Hopefully this is popular in JP and that will translate into more seasons.

worst case the light novels are getting official english releases :p

I'm pretty much caught up to the latest novel. It's a shame they aren't doing the War in the Plains Arc; it would be pretty neat if that was animated. Gotta for that S3 if it ever happens. I think the last arc of Season 2 won't leave a huge loose end besides possible teaser. Thankfully, Overlord has an English release for the Light Novels, so we can always go back to reading the Light Novels.

Now it would suck if there was an Anime that ended on a cliffhanger and did not have any of the source material translated (either official or fan translated). This is the worst case scenario.

But RIP Devil is a Part-timer anime though. (At least the Light Novel is there. Book 3 picks up after the anime btw. And that is where things start to get interesting)

Yeah I only move to the source material when there's no hope for a new anime. Even then, sometimes the writers themselves drop their own written work!

Land of Lustrous [FINISH]

This was a very good show and I can see why people put it on their AOTY lists. It would probably squeak into my top 10 for 2017. But now I want more. So much more story to tell, and for an original concept it's a very interesting and unique world they created. And for once the 3D isn't a jarring mess. Pho's transformation and development makes her a great MC. Even the supporting cast is great. All the girls from Bort to Cinnabar are interesting with their own stories. But Rutile is probably my favorite.

Now I really need to catch up with the rest of the season. I'm so far behind but I think I'll make tonight my mindless anime night. Onlly show I'm caught up with is DB Super (which is so damn fun)and Yowapeda (which is kinda dragging but I still love it)

I think most of them are dudes right? Didn't Bort call Diamond brother?

The Gems use male pronouns to refer to each other. It is unknown if they consider themselves male, female, or genderless.

I personally see all of them as girls besides Sensei.

I believe that they are genderless.

I read something about how difficult it was to translate the use of pronouns between the two languages. I believe they worked with the original author because of that. Think of brother as more of a way to show their relationship to one another rather than "that man is my brother."

Oddly enough, I didn't even think about any of their genders until the appearance of Antarcticite.

Hmm, that's confusing. I would think Bort would have said kyoudai instead of nii-san if that was the case. Either way, with how JP gender-bends and has weird things going on in all their shows, you never really know wtf is going on. I had assumed they were all female based on how they treated Sensei, but they kept throwing in male pronouns. If I wanted gender ambiguity I'd spend more time in Thailand.

I assumed they're genderless, but they're still more female than male to me. I don't see any packages down below. Also I don't remember them refering to each other as males. Maybe I missed that.

School Babysitters [EP4-5]

This one continues to be a charming and enjoyable show. Nothing amazing, but it's a nice pace if you want to watch something less stressful and chill.

Anyone watching Laid-Back Camp? I was thinking about giving it a shot but I just have so much to catch up with.

So uhhh...nothing happened in this episode of Overlord >.< It was all a bunch of setup and slow paced at that. I feel cheated....I'm sure there'll be a pay off at some point (right??).

Getting caught up with some shows.

Black Clover - While it's blend of just about every shonen anime before it, it's still enjoyable. Asta is growing on me a little and I'm not finding him too annoying anymore.

Laid-back Camp - Just started this last night and it's a charming show about camping. Nothing amazing but if you like highschool club shows this is a good one. Funny thing is we're thinking about going camping soon. This might be a nice camping 101 lesson for me.

Takagi-San - After a few episodes this is getting a little repetitive. You know the guy is going to lose to Takagi san every time. I may drop this, I don't know yet.

Overlord - This got better. The lizard man arc was okay but I feel they could've done it in 2 episodes.

Wait, episode 6 of Beatless is a recap episode?

Season 1 was enjoyable. How was the spin off? I started to watch it but got a little bored 10 minutes in.
Spin-off was interesting in that you got to see what was happening with Ais while the other guy was doing all his cool stuff. Show definitely grew on me.

Mmm catching up on ANN unveiled some awesome news again. RE: Zero is finally getting a BD release by Funi. Too bad it's the usual season 1 part 1 nonsense, but eventually we'll get a compilation. Maybe when the next season comes out. Moar SAO anime coming out, doesn't seem like there's a date yet. Yay!
