FAQ's
Q: When is Black Friday 2018?
A: Friday, 11/23/18

Q: When are ads going to come out?
A: No one knows but here is a prediction list based on release / leaks in the last few years to give you an idea of possible release dates.

Q: When are stores open?
A: Look above for store times located next to store ads.

Q: Can I price match on Black Friday?
A: Price Matching differs from store to store. Here is the list of stores with if they PM or not on BF. You can also go here for further explanation on BF policy per store.

Walmart: No
Target: No
Best Buy: No
NewEgg: No
Kohl's: Yes
eBay: Yes
Macy's: Yes

Q: Does Best Buy's GCU stack with Black Friday items?
A: No. GCU does not stacked with Black Friday items. Best Buy does have early Black Friday sales if you are an Elite / Elite Plus member. Sometimes it has shown to work within the early minutes of those early BF deals popping up. But it's YMMV.

Q: Does GameStop's Elite and Elite Pro stack with Black Friday items?
A: Yes but only for used items that will be in the ad.

Q: Question?
A: Yes

Something to hold you guys over till more ads start coming.

Correction for the Target ad posted on the front page. They actually open at 5pm ET this year, not 6pm. An hour earlier than years past.

In the Target ad, the $35 section has a Switch game leaning against AC Odyssey but I cant see the title on the spine...any ideas on what it might be?
Based on the layout of the words my best guesses would be:

Wolfenstein II: The New Collosus
South Park: The Fractured but Whole
Sushi striker: The Way of the Sushido

The bottom looks like the Nintendo logo, so maybe sushi striker?

Already confirmed as Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, based on the hi-res version of the scan:

Time to add a bunch more games to my backlog, which is already so ridiculous I could play a new game every day for 5+ years. Yeah Black Friday!!!

I don’t understand the need to buy an Xbox 1x or a ps pro if you already have a ps4 or Xbox 1 and with both companys putting out new systems very soon it doesn’t make much sense to spend that much money instead of buying the newer systems.
It all depends on your needs, your level of patience, and how long you can wait to upgrade. Based on the past, when the PS5 comes out, the new release games will also be made available (or playable) on the PS4....at least for awhile. Sony knows it's sold a ton of PS4's and isn't going to alienate those users. Same with MS, for their new console. Playing the new releases won't be an issue....it's how much you want the new hardware to show them off. Some people don't care...most probably do.

I currently own a standard PS4...hopefully getting a 4K TV and an XBox One X on BF. Will wait for the PS5 because I suspect the leap in technology will be greater going from the PS4 Pro to the PS5, rather than the One X going to the X2 (Scarlett) or whatever it's gonna be called. I suspect I'll be happy with my One X for awhile, even though I know the upcoming XBox will be superior. The time to move on up for me is when you can only play future releases on the Next Gen systems....when they start leaving the previous console behind. I think it'll be a few years before we are there, but who knows.

Since the consoles are using PC architecture this gen, I think it’s safe to say that the next gen consoles will be able to play current gen games. They’ll just be branded next gen and will probably have UI updates but will really just be better X1’s and PS4’s. That doesn’t necessarily mean that next gen games will work on current gen consoles. It’s not because they won’t be capable of doing it at lower settings but rather that manufacturers are going to use those games as the reason to upgrade. This applies to first party games only obviously. Third party games will be on both gens for a long time because it won’t take any work for them to be on both.

I’d be worried about buying an X1X just because all the Microsoft first party games that will matter will not be playable on it.

This has already been addressed, at least on the MS/Xbox side. MS in now using a universal platform so all games will work on all future hardware, natively (from the Xbox One forward). That means no more need for backwards compatibility, same as PC has it right now. Sony hasn't said anything regarding the PS5 going this route, but I suspect they will. Time will tell.

As for next gen Xbox games working on Xbox One, I can pretty much guarantee it. They will be inferior versions obviously, but its just too easy to do for MS not to go that route.

Your first paragraph looks like you’re disagreeing with me in tone but you just agreed with me.

As for previous consoles being forward compatible? Don’t count on it. It’s naive to make this assumption.

I was agreeing with you. I was just stating that its already been addressed, a ways back actually. All games from Xbox One forward will be playable natively on all future hardware. As for the 2nd paragraph, I don't think its naive at all. Way to much money to be made for them not to do it, at least while its still feasible. Its just too easy and too profitable for MS not too.

He didn't agree with you at all. You said that Xbox One X would not be able to play first party titles going forward when Microsoft releases a new console. Nixon stated that the newer (Single Party) games most definitely will be compatible with the X (and Xbox One) going forward, they will just run at lower settings than whatever the newest console is able to run. This is what Microsoft promised going forward with their infrastructure, so there is no reason for any of us to not believe this unless they change their tone in the future. Considering the X currently costs $500 still at MSRP, I don't see a new Microsoft console being released for at least two to three years. They have absolutely no reason to release one and releasing a marginally more powerful system in the next year or two alone would leave us with a $600-$800+ system. No thanks.

I was agreeing with him in regards to the issue of games working on newer systems. Disagreeing with him in regards to newer titles working on previous hardware. As for the price of hardware, I don't think it will ever go above $500. The PS3 showed how bad sales get when you have hardware priced above 500. If anything, I think they will just go back to the razor blade model if hardware gets that expensive. They will take a loss on hardware and make it back on software. This was the first generation (Xbox One, PS4) where that wasn't the case anyways. Every generation prior, money was lost on hardware in the first few years as the VAST majority of money in this industry is made on games, not hardware.

To be clear....I believe an Xbox One game disc will run in an Xbox One 2. I do not think an Xbox One 2 disc will run in an Xbox One. You think the X12 discs will run on X1’s?

Yeah, I think thats taking what I said to the extreme. I don't think games 10 generations from now will be playable on Xbox One. That being said I do think the games released in the first 2-3 years of a new systems release will still be playable on the previous hardware. They will just be inferior versions. Again, WAY too much money to be made to not go that route especially given how easy it would be to accomplish.

I meant X1-2 as in next gen. This is the problem when you call your console the “Xbox One” I guess. If they are going to make previous gen consoles forward compatible then do you think they’ll even call it something else of just continue to call it Xbox One?

If you meant just this generation and the next generation, then yes I absolutely believe the games will work on the Xbox One, at least for the first 2-3 years. Its just so easy to accomplish with a universal platform and way too much money to be made with a huge installed base not to go that route. Time will tell.

CVS has the 3 months of Live for $25 plus $15 in ExtraCare Bucks I wonder could we use that $15 towards another card at another store since it’s a limit of one per household? Don’t shop there often so never read if u could apply the bucks to gift cards
You can't. And there was a time when I would have thought this was a completely shit deal, but then I hit an age where I actually had to start buying stuff at CVS and Walgreens.

Lost my edge. The locals have mastered the art of ordering online through their phones. Gonna have to do it old school this year.

They should TOTALLY call the next one XBox One 2! That may not be dumb enough though, so perhaps we can suggest "XBox One 2 three catorce".

I'm still waiting for the Toys R Us ad to leak :(

I would love to see Xbox 720. Ever since super bowl 2012 tease of that name I thought it was perfect - get back to the era we all loved on Xbox

I would wager against this. Universal platform = great way to extend ongoing BC to all your longterm customers. Forward compatibility = complete discouragement for many of those customers to upgrade and extremely bad performance on these games vs. what they're "supposed" to look like on the new machine. Plus, depending on how far advanced these newer titles are, running them on the old box may not be as simple as dropping a few settings. Spending resources crippling your new-gen game to run on an old box would be a seriously bad investment.

Those prices for AtGames consoles at CVS and Walgreens are not deals. The CVS price is just the normal price for those, and the Walgreens price makes it seem like they are overcharging for some of them, saying that they are all normally priced at $70. Not that I would recommend anything that AtGames makes, I just noticed that CVS and Walgreens are calling those Black Friday deals, when they are definitely not.

I wonder since gcu is only active to people that had a sub before The service was killed off what if it stacks with BF deals this year ? It’s certainly worth testing

Did it ever stack in the past? I am pretty sure that last year on Black Friday they didn't let people use it that day.

Yeah, but I think the hope is that now it's a dead program with a lot less people still reaping the benefits, maybe they'll forget to turn it off when the prices switch?

Maybe if you get your order in within the first few minutes the prices go live. Otherwise I doubt it. Would be nice though.

i’m not sure there is any game deal posted thus far that i am genuinely excited about :/

For me it's shaping up to be whatever 4k blus are on sale that I care to get. I don't think any of the games releasing this month will be on sale so I'm just not expecting anything.

I would take that wager. MS's new approach, at least publicly, is all about having multiple systems available for people to choose from and having all games work no matter which system you have. Dropping support of Xbox One the minute the newer console comes out would be going against this business model completely. And again, I said the first 2-3 years which is really the first couple cycles of games so I don't buy for a second that the games would be so far advanced that it would be difficult to make them run on the previous system. The fact that you will get a better experience with the new console will be more than enough incentive for people to upgrade when it gets to the price level they deem appropriate. Xbox One X sales are proof of that. All MS would be doing by dropping support of Xbox One is losing millions and millions of sales on people that wouldn't have upgraded right away anyways. The VAST majority of Xbox Owners don't buy the consoles at launch or at full price. They usually wait for a price drop or two. Again, they would just be losing millions of potential sales, per game, trying to get people to upgrade right away that wouldn't have anyways.

And one of the things I think your failing to recognize is the VAST majority of money in this industry is made on games and subscription services (a massive understatement actually). So it doesn't matter if someone buys a particular game on the Xbox One or the next gen system or has a membership to Gamepass or Xbox Live Gold on either system. MS will still get the same amount of money and people wont hesitate to buy games if they own an Xbox One because they know the game will still work when or if they upgrade. So suggesting its a bad investment is really placing WAY too much emphasis on hardware sales, which MS makes very little money from. Its games sales & subscription services that matter and now that MS is using a universal platform, it doesn't matter which system people are using. As long as your in the Xbox ecosystem and subscribing to services and buying games, MS will be right as rain.

Well since they are coming back next year it’s about a year wait for that ad to leak.
