PlayStation Classic DEALS THREAD (Currently $20 @ GameStop)

Picked one of these up at Meijer for $15 today. Thought I'd missed out on picking one of these up for cheap.
Thank you for posting this! I was able to pick up the last one at the Meijer next to my house after work on Friday. Who knows if/when I'll ever get to modding it, but for $15, could be a fun project later. :)

I was playing with this sucker exclusively for nearly a month and finally jumped back on my PS4 this morning, the sharpness of the display and comfort of the DS4 was much more apparent than I had ever noticed as result. Hooray for techincal progress.

Have you considered using USB extension cords and playing with the DS4? I have heard of people doing that.

Pro-tip: You can replace the cord on the inside of the PlayStation Classic controller simply by removing the screws and opening the controller.  Then, unplug the short USB cord and replace it with a longer cord.  It's just a regular micro USB cable.

Man, I legit saw somebody buy one of these the other day while dismissing the Genesis Mini as "not worth it."

I was gobsmacked.
Well, even at the current retail price of $60, the PS Classic can probably play the majority of Genesis, Sega CD & 32X games at full speed. So one could easily argue this is still the better deal and device, as you can play pretty much the entire SEGA library from Master System to the Genesis/MD/CD/32X and customize it to your liking at the same time.

I think the Genesis Mini looks like a cool device, and if comparing retail release to retail release, it is in fact a better buy, no question. But at this point, I don't see many buying the PS Classic for standard use, as it's pretty useless as-is. LOL

50/50 chance you can hack the genesis sicne it a new chip. You can buy a retrobit official sega controller and play on the PSC all the genesis games.

Considering the past atgames genesis systems... I wouldn't be bothered at all hearing someone not be interested in the Genesis Mini. Heck even if you knew it was a major improvement (though still not perfect) over those other systems, there are plenty of legit ways to play MOST of these games in the various genesis and other collections. So for the cost, it doesn't really make sense to get it unless you were a huge genesis fan and didn't have a way to play the games. The PSC has really come a long way to go from a near useless purchase (granted some games I did play, were fine) to be a beast of a little machine. For the $20 (or $15) it's a solid deal. At $60 it's not a great deal because you still need other equipment to get the best out of it... but it's not a horrible purchase option at all.

Well, the PS Classic is pretty much back to retail at most places, but Amazon currently has it for $29.00. I guess there was much more than anyone could have imagined uh? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HHVF2XG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I expected these to sell out most places at $20, but they all still seem to have stock, so who knows if these make it back to $20 or not. I think $30 is fair, and depending on inventory, this may be the new low, so proceed with caution. LOL

CheapyD posted in the GameStop Labor Day thread that the PlayStation Classic will be on $29.99 online only that day. And GameStop is selling them pre-owned now for $34.99 as well. The trade-in value is $8, I think.

Picked up some of those hot switch games with my ps classic using the extra 20% off deal, then flipped them at a different gs. Going to miss elite pro when mine dies this month.

Thank you for the heads up. Since I’m in for one, can you PM me also with the 411 on jailbreaking, please?

PM sent.

Damn, I feel like Oprah. "You get a PM, and you get a PM, and you get a PM!!!" :whee:

Edit: Because people are spamming my inbox about the PlayStation Classic, and one of you was especially rude to me when I responded, I'm done with providing instructions! One bad apple spoiled the bunch. And I'm not one of the Beatles, so I don't want to hold your hand! Please refrain from sending me PMs about this! Life is too short, so I will direct the rest of you grown men to the PlayStation Classic Reddit thread and the search engines Bing and Google to do the legwork that I had to do in the first place. Any PMs that I receive from this moment on with the words "PlayStation Classic" in the title will be automatically deleted without me even opening them up to read them. I don't know you personally. I don't care. :bomb:

In other news, I left my PlayStation Classic on for about three hours today, and I saw a message on the screen that said that the PlayStation Classic was getting too hot and that I needed to discontinue use until it cooled off. That's the first time that I've ever seen that message.

What by chance were you playing?

Nothing at the time that I got the message. The system was just on while I was on the phone. Before that, it was a few games of Bust-A-Move '99 (aka Puzzle Bobble 3). But I would assume that the system doesn't have much to cool it off since Sony cut costs wherever it possibly could. Remember, this is the company that didn't include an AC adapter in its own retro game system.

Hey everyone. Right NOW. Gamestop has the PSX Classic for 20$ New and 18$ Used.

Amazon is 30$

Do NOT trust the Gamestop website or app. Employee told me that due to a new inventory system. Its messed up. Showing things out of stock when it is in stock. So Call your Gamestop to check for it. If they dont have it. Ask about Web in store. Otherwise youd pay 10$ in shipping at gs.com.

Just got mine for 18$ at Gamestop. =D Now to mod this thing...

Someone should update the OP too...

Do the used versions typically include the 2nd controller? A store near me had one in stock but I only saw 1 controller in the case.

Because most of the people in this thread bought the system new, there's no way to know for sure what GameStop's official policy is on selling the PlayStation Classic used. But I would say it's worth it to pay $20 instead of $18 to get the new system with the second controller that's supposed to be in the box with it.

Anyone else have audio issues when using the reset button (in stock non-modded form)? For some reason audio cuts out when I use the reset button. I have to power cycle the console to get audio to work again.

I think we overestimate how much of the customer base for the PS Classic is actually trying to mod these things!
Well, I would say that people probably figured out what the system's true value is once word got out that it could be easily modded. And, in all honesty, I think that it's so simple that most adults of reasonable intelligence can figure it out. Otherwise, it wouldn't have sold out so quickly at Target once it hit $19.99. That said, it is easy to brown out the system with the wrong type of AC adapter or ruin it by trying to mod it incorrectly. So I wouldn't buy a used PlayStation Classic for $18 myself when I could buy a brand new one for $20 since there's no real way to know if someone screwed it up when they unsuccessfully tried to mod it. And you can't tell just by turning it on. I mean, it's $2!

Thanks, I don't know what I was thinking.

And hopefully, I didn't come off in a bad way with my explanation. But there have been reports on the PlayStation Classic Reddit thread where people have ruined their PS Classics trying to mod them because they didn't follow those simple instructions. And we all know how negligent GameStop employees can be when it comes to inspecting systems for trade-in. Plus, you don't know who had it before you did. So you get a brand-new system with two controllers fresh out of the box. I'd probably buy a used one if it was only a few bucks though as a back-up.

Sold out at Best Buy online and in stores, Target is sold out at stores around me and available online, and Walmart has limited stock online and only a few stores around me that have any in stock. This might be selling out for good in the near future.

Don't forget GameStop. According to the mobile app my GS were completely OOS the past few days. There seems to be a restock as of this week.

Also it doesn't take rocket science to mod this device. I recommend following madlittlepixel or Restalgia guides via YouTube. Just be patient with the process and don't unplug anything when your not supposed to yet.

You forgot the third "don't" - don't send anymore PMs to josekortez about the PlayStation Classic! :speaktothehand:

In other PlayStation Classic news, it was posted on Reddit earlier that the PlayStation Vita AC adapter will work with the PlayStation Classic. However, I'm not sure what the results will be if you use that AC adapter in conjunction with a modded PlayStation Classic. Perhaps not good because modding seems to increase the power output.

Did the $20 sales really clear out stock out of B&M Best Buy? There were gigantic piles of these every time I went before the final drop to $20.

Yup. It seems $20 was everyone's buy price. My store moved through 80+ in under a week once it dropped that low. Of course some of those were to fulfill online order but still.

The PlayStation Classic system is back on sale for $29.99 at Target this week. Restock?

At this time of year, just about anything could have happened, but no matter what the reason, this may be the last chance for a pretty good all in one emulation machine at a decent price. This thing while beyond over priced originally at $100, is now a very good buy, even at $30, as this has much more horsepower than the other mini/classic offerings.

I'm dredging up this thread to mention that GameStop is clearancing out the Yok PlayStation Classic wireless controllers for $2.97 each.

https://www.gamestop.com/video-games/retro-gaming/playstation/accessories/products/playstation-classic-wireless-controller/10170894.html?utm_expid=.Hn2ODSotSjW4yWszOrBF7Q.0&utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamestop.com%2Fsearch%2F%3Fq%3Dplaystation%2Bclassic%26lang%3Ddefault

While they aren't first-party, they work great for games that don't require an analog stick.  Just plug and play.  The range is also decent.

And if you're lucky, the Yok extension cables are a penny each.  I got two of those this evening after work when I bought two controllers.

Did you update your PSC to the current AutoBleem? It added wifi and bluetooth.
