For me, I'm excited because I never played the 3DS games, so this will be my opportunity to try it out
It’s the same region as X/Y but not a remake.
Just like Legends Arceus took place in the past, this one will probably be taking place in the past. Based on the blueprints shown in the trailer, it will be influenced by the redevelopment of Paris in the 1800’s.

Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds Overdrive is being delisted on March 4th (presumably midnight Pacific). This is to make way for a new shiny version based on UE5.
The game has never been on sale.

Had this on my wishlist for years. I wonder how many others did the same waiting on a price drop that never came. Lol!

I had thought to get this before, but seems like holding out was wise since this new version will have all the content and dlc of the old one and be able to be updated for bugs and stuff where the old version are essentially being abandoned.

I'm a relatively new Switch owner (as of last year, but I haven't played it much) and this is exactly what I've been waiting for!

I'm just undecided now as to whether I want to start a physical collection or if I want to buy digital. Pretty much all of my Playstation/Xbox library is digital, so I'm not sure why I'm debating this with myself.
Unless you can game share on the Switch like other platforms, physical might make more sense, as my brother wants to eventually get a Switch and play the same games.

I tend to go where the deals are. Since digital first party games rarely go on sale, that typically means eBay for physical cartridges for me. Setup alerts on dekudeals if you haven’t already.

I've bought most of my Nintendo published Switch games with a physical edition, but have gotten deals via the voucher program or other sales and deals that have made digital purchases worthwhile as well (since that allows sharing between myself and my kids Switch.)

Physical is easy to share, but you can share digital by just setting up your profile on their device and then they can just play the games using your profile (just keep cloud save backups off if you do Nintendo online). But this requires the games to "phone home" to verify you aren't playing them elsewhere. Which requires being on the internet. Not an issue when at home, but could be an issue when out of the house.

Myself, I prefer physical... but that's been my thing forever. The other side of the coin here on digital is you will 100% need a nice large memory card where as physical games for the most part (there are plenty of exceptions) play off of the cartridge. So you can get by with a smaller microsd card with physical.

So I've been absolutely no-lifing Pimin 4 since last week and I may have to revise my top 5 games of 2023 to include it. I've managed to complete the main story (up to the credits, since there's a whole postgame adventure), Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, and all 10 of the Sage Trials, and now I'm moving on to rest of the postgame. I love how it's overall a fairly chill game, but then the classic Nintendo Hard kicks in with the Olimar mode and Sage Trials. It's been a long time since I played a game that made my hands shake and my heart race the way those modes have. I got 9 bronze medals and 1 silver in the trials (and 2 of them I finished at literally 0 seconds left on the clock), so I didn't do well lol but I beat them nonetheless. The rewards for beating the trials are incredible, so it's so worth the stress to beat them.

I played the first three Pikmin games last year so I could be caught up for 4, which I watched my husband play when it came out. Watching him have so much fun encouraged me to finally give the series another try, as I had only played the first game once as a kid and gave up halfway through from the stress the time limit gave me. I've always been interested in the series and I'm proud of myself for beating them all (well, I didn't finish the postgame for Pikmin 2 because Jesus, those last dungeons were endless). Pikmin 2 ended up being my favorite before I played 4, and now I think 4 has it beat since it's a true refinement of 2's formula. Yeah, it's on the easier side, but at least it has those heart-pumping optional modes. Honestly, I think Pikmin 3 is the easier game, since despite its (nearly inconsequential) time limit, it really only got tough at the final boss and the Switch-exclusive Olimar levels. As much as I enjoyed the first Pikmin game, I'm ok with the series moving away from its main campaign being consumed by urgency and panic.

So, my top 5 games of 2023:
1. Tears of the Kingdom
2. Spider-Man 2
3. Pikmin 4
4. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line
5. Forspoken (YES I KNOW BUT I LIKED IT A LOT)

Pikmin 4 was great. Being a series that mostly only shows up once every console generation really benefits it. Each game is such a huge improvement over the last one. The first Pikmin just seems like an ancient proof-of-concept compared to the latest game. But they’re all good games really.

They really went all out stuffing it full of content. I want to go back and do a no Pikmin-death run, but I know I'll have to make exceptions for certain bosses and stages 😆

It was sad to see Pikmin miss the top 10 chart on every console it has been on. Wasn't it bundled with a Gamecube at one point?

Did you guys see this Reddit post about the NSO icons? Someone noticed that there are now requirements for redeeming some of them.

I took some screen grabs:

You must now play the game the icons relate to. For Animal Crossing you need to have played it for at least 3 non-consecutive days over the past 30 days. This seems very tedious and unnecessary for a profile picture?

Lol, this is especially ridiculous because you still need to spend the silver coins on top of playing the game.

It reeks of someone’s bonus being tied to get players more engaged in certain games.

You guys make me want to play Pikmin 4. Wish it could be found cheap…but Nintendo. :(

I played it through Gamefly. Took about a month to beat so it came out to under $10, or about half of the monthly cost of a 2-month game plan. Gamefly is the way to go when it comes to Nintendo 1st party stuff.

QVC still does their $30 off $60 new customer coupon from time to time. Add a $1 donation to the order to get Pikmin 4 (or any $59.99 game) for $30.99 before tax. The current coupon is $20 off $40, but probably around the next holiday they will do the $30 one.
You can be a "new customer" multiple times if you create a new account/email and use a new payment method.

Yeah that's the only way of getting cheap first party Switch games these days. Was also a great way to get Mario RPG and Mario Wonder for $30. Metroid Prime was available for $20 with the other coupon.

Yeah, I noticed that last night and was super-pissed. It's bad enough we already have to spend platinum points on the icons, but now we can't even access them unless we play the game? I already don't do the platinum point challenges that require you to play a certain game because I don't like being told how to spend the precious little game time I have on this earth. Hell no am I playing Animal Crossing three separate times just to see if there are any March icons I missed last year. Even just putting the cartridge in the system to boot it up for a second is too much unnecessary work. Too busy playing Pikmin 4, dammit.

Watch the Switch 2 come out and all of our icons no longer work. It'll be the PS5's [lack of] themes fiasco all over again.
Just in case someone missed it, Nintendo has been regularly updating the Pikmin website with 4-panel comics. Pretty charming, a lot of the jokes revolve around Oatchi, and it been going on for longer than I thought it would.

OMG thank you for informing me of this! Now I gotta read them all!

I can't imagine there are a significant amount of people so motivated by personal avatars that they would buy a specific version of a game just to have a very slightly easier time getting those avatars.

I've changed my profile avatar on my switch maybe twice, and I've had a switch since a couple weeks after launch when the second shipment hit stores. What I ended up changing to was a Mii character I created that I themed after Lupin III thanks to the demo for MiiTopia inspiring me to create most of the Lupin III characters. At this point, I see no reason to really change it again or chase parts to build new icons. Just let the platinum coins expire and play what you want to play.

The Mario play once to get profile pics I can handle as they always have a play one game per month award. The AC one is ridiculous. Play the game three times each with a 24 hour gap in between to get avatars that used to be freely accessible to redeem coins for!

Especially since the AC ones have been around for a while and you could previously get them without any other hoops to jump through.

Princess Peach: Showtime! demo impressions all portability on OG Switch:

First of all this game reminds me most of Kirby and the Forgotten Land in a way mainly with the movement. The game takes place in a theater which is shown in the game as many background elemental look like carboard props. The story is very simple with Princess Peach meeting a being that gives her a spark (I believe that was the name) ability that allows her to use this ribbon like spark normally which mainly helps others recover when hit and also can take out enemies and interact with some background elements. In the levels there is a certain spark that is used for it and changes the feel of the level. If you're the sword wielding Peach it's more like like a beat em up almost similar to En Garde without the parrying. The other level as the patisserie almost feels like a bunch of mini games, but they're fun enough. If you do better or do certain tasks in levels you get little gems that the game wants you to try to collect them all. Overall it's solid enough fun gameplay that really doesn't drive anything forward, but is solid enough.

I feel that there is a little bit of clunkiness in movement compared to say Kirby and the Forgotten Land or Super Mario Odyssey. It makes dodging with the sword spark less clean, and some of the jumps don't feel as nice. I will also say that while the graphics are nice and clean they sure feel smaller as Peach and the enemies take up just a bit of screen room, while the backgrounds and environment look a little bigger. This can make things seem small especially in portable mode. Also more than most other Switch games this one is blurrier and less defined looking than others. The graphics are clean enough, but I feel they could have been polished to be nicer especially for a first party title.

Overall, this is a game that feels like the stereotypical 7/10, which is in my view a good enough game, but doesn't really excel either. I would have fun if I bought the game on release, but unless I'm looking for a more laid back 3Dish platformer with a variety of gameplay elements, I'll probably wait until it's $30 or $40. I think this would be an excellent $40 game. I think it comes out the same day as Rise of the Ronin and Dragon's Dogma 2, which is pretty stiff competition for the wallet as I'm passing on Dragon's Dogma 2 at first at least. This game is fine for younger players though and that is where it will likely shine the most.

Sounds about how I expected. I will probably skip it even though I liked that DS Peach game.

I get that this is supposed to be a Princess Peach showcase, but this game badly needed a co-op mode. These kind of chill, relaxed games are perfect for playing with younger kids or spouses that aren’t as skilled in gaming. Stuff like 2D Mario, Kirby, Yoshi, DKC…. Nintendo usually understands that. But this one is singleplayer only. Maybe a sequel would add Daisy, Rosalina and Pauline, but it’s a missed opportunity.

When this was first announced that is what I was hoping for. A new Super Peach game. Then they showed a clunky looking game but still had hopes.

This demo lacks any of the polish Nintendo games normally have. How can Mario Odyssey look so nice but this looks so bad? I only played until I got the sword and I realize this is probably just to get people familiar with the game, but if the rest of the game stops you every two minutes for a cutscene that is not a good thing. At least when Sony does that the cutscenes look amazing.

I am thankful for demos like this that save me some money down the road when i think "Oh, $20. Why not?" and then having to deal with trying to sell it and get my money back.

Pretty sure this is a price mistake. Nintendo has the base game for $19.79, and the Gold edition for $35.99.

I grabbed it for this price.

Oh, and the other link was for the Base game.

Here's the digital gold edition at Gamestop.
Thanks for this. That's a steal. Now I can trade in my physical copy for 13

EDIT: Does anyone have recommendations on how to get platinum coins?

There are some dedicated pages for games like FE Heroes and Pikmin that yielded a lot of platinum coins for just clicking the correct stuff on page. Just search for a guide to knock them out quick.

Also in for the Sparks price mistake. If anyone else was wondering - certificates won't apply to the promo price. Does the dlc add any different voice acting? Or is it more all beepo, all the time?

Also, you can go to My.Nintendo.com every week for 30 coins.

You also get 30 per week if you access the store on your console.

Weird, I copied the link from Reddit so it should've been the gold edition but it wasn't somehow. Thanks for letting me know, I corrected it. I figured it might be a price mistake but who knows with Ubisoft. I grabbed it since I don't think the gold edition will ever get much lower than this

No worries. I did the same. Haven't finished the first game, but can't picture this one ever getting a better deal.

The first game gold edition was $19.99 for ages before now reaching $15 or so. I'm sure this will take a while too so I got it as well. I haven't finished the first either, but will eventually.

On the other hand with lack of polish of the Princess Peach Switch demo I too was surprised at the lack of polish. I kept thinking to myself Kirby and the Forgotten Land was honestly pretty nice looking and thinking to myself I need to finish that. I wasn't joking about the blurriness and jaggies, which for Switch (kind of like it was for the 3DS) jaggies are expected now and then because of the console's power, but for a first party title I expected better. I'm kind of sad because I wanted to be like oh look at that it's a really decent game and everyone is ignoring it, but yeah it feels like a throwaway first party title. The Japanese version selling for $41.99 sounds more of the right price, and even at $40 I would probably still wait for a sale. I do hope the final title feels more polished than the demo.

Now if only The Lost Crown would get this kind of discount, I'll be done with buying Ubi games on Switch lol. Was tempted at the $30 Best Buy sale but I can wait

Yeah, feel the same way about Lost Crown. I have a $5 cert expiring this week and that game is tempting me....
